She hates this box, poor baby.

Long story short-I had a friend sleep over while we were attending Aftershock. Normally, my kitty, Sophie, sleeps with me... but she didn't while my friend stayed over. Sophie seemed heart-broken and wouldn't come in my room while company was there. After my company left, she still seemed hurt. By the next morning, she was so stressed, she wasn't eating or drinking her water. She wasn't following me to the kitchen like she normally does. She was hiding. I was worried. So I called VCA Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic. They already had all of Sophie's information because I came here to get her shots when she was just weeks old. They told me to bring her in when I could. I think I was there in 35 minutes. First, they assessed Sophie to make sure she wasn't suffering too much. Then, they took me to a room and brought Sophie in there with me. They asked me first if it was ok to give her a mild sedative because she did not like being handled by people she didn't know. Then veterinarian came in and was so gentle with Sophie. She checked under her tongue, checked her belly. Checked for dehydration. She was definitely dehydrated. After a few suggestions, I went with 2 of the 4 options given. They hydrated Sophie and gave her an anti nausea medicine. Thankfully, that seemed to do the trick. That evening, Sophie came to bed with me and stayed in me all night. She had me so to herself. By this morning, she followed me to the kitchen and was ready to eat. I am so blessed and thankful for VCA Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic. I had an Emergency and they helped Sophie feel better. They took very good care of her as if she was their own.

I adopted a yorkie about a year ago and he developed a lump on his neck that continued to get larger. I took him in to see DVM Walter's and she suggested we remove it and get it biopsy- I was a little nervous but took him in tho morning for his appointment- VCA staff called me yesterday to ensure I was aware of time to drop off, meds to give him, etc ... dropped him off in am and got a call around 11 to pick him up - all went well so I'm glad in chose VCA

I made an ER visit to VCA Loomis Basin on a Saturday morning, after the dog I'm sitting swallowed a toy. The front desk was welcoming and efficient, followed by a super friendly vet tech who triaged us in a timely manner. The waiting room was clean, good signage, lots of seating, space, coffee and hand sanitizer available. Our vet, Dr. Jill Aschehoug, was patient, savvy, gave options based on a wealth of experience, and explained every step. Our long day ended with a MAJOR success-- Dr. A was able to skillfully remove the obstruction and avoid major surgery. Such a pro. Such a relief. All day, I watched pets come in and out... and although you could tell they were busy in the back, I noticed how much time and attention each family was given. I highly recommend this place to anyone within driving distance. Thank you, VCA!

Dr. West (IM) and RVT Amy are amazing! Brought my little guy here for a second opinion and Dr. West got him squared away on the first visit! Both of them were extremely kind and thorough-- it was very obvious they read all his records prior to my first visit so we were able to jump right in! Chunky didn't tolerate one of the new compounded meds, but Amy and Michelle were diligent on following up when he was vomiting, even asking the other specialist for direction on Dr. Wests weekend which was much appreciated to get us relief sooner! I love that they give you a visit summary to go home with as well (with fun stickers!), so I can show my family members who pup-sit. As for the facility-- extremely clean (dare I say spotless), great signage, lots of cute photos on the walls, and on a beautiful property. The receptionists are super welcoming. Well worth the drive from Davis! As a vet tech myself and self proclaimed "helicopter mom", I only want the best for my little guy-- they met and exceeded all my expectations and I whole heartedly recommend them.

Fantastic parking with natural shade. How every CA parking lot should be! 10-26-2024

Dr. Dilley and tech Courtney were wonderful to me and my dog last Saturday. I adopted my first dog from Placer County Animal Shelter. The adoption came with a free initial exam from one any of ~24 different participating veterinary offices. I selected LBVC as they had Saturday hours. Had to book it 3 weeks out. I didn't have time to do the online intake form ahead of time and I took longer to get to my appointment. They were accommodating and Dr. Dilley was wonderful in answering my plethora of questions. The complimentary visit also came with a free dose of Simparica. Big help! The receptionist Kiwi was wonderful. The facility is clean and the parking lot is extremely calming. The trees are smartly planted and they give off fantastic shade. Offset from Sierra College Blvd, it's rather quiet. This is definitely a good facility if you need emergency services. It's calming and they clearly line out their triage (sign out front - see my pics) and client access to visit ICU patients (at desk is list of visiting parameters) and they have numbered parking spaces that likely help when bringing in a pet for emergency services, such as hit by car cases or other limited mobility. For someone who has sensory processing sensitivity, this facility puts me at ease. The knowledge Dr. Dilley gave me is fantastic. No more raw diet of any kind (causes increase of bacteria flora and atrocious breath and apparently no studies showing its truly of benefit). My dog will get Kirkland Signature (Costco brand) or Purina Pro Plan as long as they have grains/rice. Dr. Dilley shared grain-free diet is linked to higher occurences of heart disease. I'll miss the less frequent fecal pick-up, but health and cost are king. And I'll be brushing her teeth regularly - particularly after she gets a full dental cleaning under anesthesia. To make a difference, brush no less than 4-5x weekly (once per day). Dr. Dilley is a dental specialist (or something like that) and recommended using CET toothpaste for dogs. And using a soft bristle human toothbrush is fine. Special and lengthy note: *Many of us pet owners lament about greedy veterinary practices that inflate charges and want to do more diagnostic work or procedures or treatments than are necessary. *Always advocate for your pet and your budgetary needs. *I'm doing the impossible and saving to buy a house 100% on my own. Dr. Dilley told me my dog had to get an echo cardiogram in order to give her dental cleaning under anesthesia due to a slightly detectable heart murmur. Eek! Conflict with costs and my goals and what I find to be necessary. *After chewing on this for a couple of days, I realized, wait, she was just spayed 3 months ago. Heart murmurs don't develop overnight. She survived her ovaries getting ripped out, she can do a dental cleaning. *She NEEDS IT. My dog's breath is not tolerable for me and she "contaminates" everything she sniffs or touches. Having SPS (sensory processing sensitivity), I can't endure her bad breath and saliva. I also cannot endure $800-950 for echo cardiogram on top of $950-1,200 for dental cleaning. *However, after a good discussion with Dr. Dilley (who remained professional, calm, and considerate), she told me that as long as I understand and accept the increased risk with the anesthesia, she would be able to do the dental cleaning without an echo cardiogram. *I understand Dr. Dilley's point of view and the clinic's goal to provide good, smart care. I also know my dog is living a better life than she did before, better than euthanasia, better than a home that won't give her any dental care, and I must continue my new path of putting myself as the priority, then good care for my dog. I recommend this facility and Dr. Dilley. Just be sure to advocate for your needs in addition to your pet's needs, be mindful the facility has higher overhead, and you'll have a good experience.

In December, my sweet 7-year-old Golden, Addie, was diagnosed with severe pulmonary edema by her primary vet. This hit us out of nowhere because, despite being so sick, she, being the sweet girl that she was, was still doing everything she could to please us and love on us. Even though it was Christmas time and they were very busy, we were able to schedule an appointment with Marqueen for the next day (Christmas Eve) to see if we could pull some of the fluid off and make things easier for her. We were hoping to have some time. During her initial exam, she was all loves and tail wags for the tech and the vet. She didn't act like she was super ill. Typical Addie. She only wanted to love on her new friends. Dr. McDonald pulled her back for a scan and a more thorough check. When she brought her back in, by the look on her face, I just knew. She had to give me the news that Addie was decompensating and was in the process of dying. We likely had hours. Despite her tail wags and eager disposition, her body was giving out on her. We discussed our options, and we decided together to let her go peacefully before she really started to struggle. Dr. McDonald and the Marqueen team allowed me to go home quickly to get our other dog, my husband, and our daughter so everyone could say goodbye. They watched over her while I was gone. Upon our return, they allowed us all the time we needed to love on her just as she had loved on us for seven years. When it was time, I laid down on the floor, big-spooned my sweet girl, and told her how much we loved her. I thanked her for being the amazing girl that she was. Dr. McDonald walked us through the entire process. She had a calm voice and was so soothing to us, and to Addie. We were allowed to spend as much time as we needed with her after she passed. Not once did we feel rushed. We were even able to bring our other dog in to say goodbye. While it was an absolutely devastating time, I can't say enough about the compassion that the Marqueen staff provided to us that day. I was able to leave knowing we made the best decision for our Addie girl, and that her passing was as smooth and peaceful as we could provide. Thank you, Dr. McDonald. I hope you see this, because I have thought of you so much since that day and truly appreciate how warm and kind you were. Thank you for being so... human. My wonderful companion of 14 years (Charlie my standard poodle) had to be put down as his health was failing every day and I have waited too long in the past to have my animals puts to sleep. Waiting too long and trying extending their life can be a terrible, tragic, and unnerving mistake.... a mistake that I have made twice in the past. Trying to hang on past their due date was not good for me or my amazing animals. The front desk was managed by Tyler... I could feel his compassion as soon as I had finished the first sentence that I spoke to him. I had a very short wait time after I called . Tyler said "that I could come in anytime" and to "give them a 30 minute notice so that they could prepare a room for me." Tyler knew who I was the moment I walked in and immediately escorted me to a large, comfortable, private room where I loved my "puppy" goodbye. (If you must do this, I suggest staying with your beloved pet through the entire process. The hurt you feel at that time will not be as great as the guilt that you will feel if you hand your baby off and just walk away.) The empathy expressed by the entire McQueen staff was above and beyond anything I had expected. I walked in with my dog on a leash and walked out with a collar and a leash. The respect and mannerisms of the MarQueen staff made that much more tolerable. If you're looking for a veterinarian- please look no further. I promise you, I've done the research for you. I knew a close friend had used this 24 hour vet clinic before and it was super close to my house so it was my natural choice. They were shortstaffed on a Sunday morning and they let us know right away, which I appreciate . Tons of snacks in the waiting room for Moms and dad's in case you missed breakfast like I did- I'll make a long story short we were in and out in about three hours. Don't judge me my puppies seem like she was doing better already and they gave us an option to return in 24 hours. We got meds, they were very kind throughout the whole process, the waiting area is large, very clean and offers water and some nourishment for you if you need it. They were the only place open in the area per a frantic google search. Right away the front desk staff and everyone I interacted with was kind, professional, and incredibly compassionate. Freya ended up having an uncommon condition called peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia (PPDH), which involves organ displacement into the sac surrounding the heart. After having to leave her there to be in an oxygen chamber, and after a very scary 24 hours, Freya improved and was able to come home with me. They provided information and options on surgery which is what will have to happen next. Each vet tech and doctor seemed to take personal interest in the wellbeing of my kitten instead of treating her like just another animal, or worse, something that didn't deserve the time and energy due to the serious extent of this congenital disease and how young she was. I made many phone calls to them afterwards, questions or requests for paperwork and every time, the person who picked up the phone was knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. They sent over anything I requested and helped where they could. Receptionists at other establishments I called sometimes answered the phone (or my questions) with attitude or genuine disinterest. The costs for imaging, oxygen chamber and the like were very high, but that's not this establishment's fault. They did what they had to do to determine the issue and bring her to a stable place. Unfortunately health care for ALL animal species is just high in general. While Freya's not out of the woods yet (her surgery is actually today) she is where she is because of the efficiency of VSH Roseville, their honest opinions and their care they showed her. I wanted to shout out to the staff who took care of Freya. I did not get all their names as they're on a constant rotation, but If they are reading this, please know from the bottom of my heart I am so grateful for all the work and care you took to make sure my kitten was okay. I can tell each of one of you are loving pet parents by the way I was treated and taken care of. I won't hesitate to recommend this place, or return when I need something.

I highly recommend her. She's fair, patient, and reasonable. She understands the difference between helping the horse and also understanding when medical intervention is no longer "helping" the horse. I appreciate that so much. Anyway, you should give her a raise. She deserves it. Or at least a bonus. Or high five.

Nomination for Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Sukeep Kaur, DVM…read more Rocklin Ranch Veterinary Hospital For more than fifteen years, Dr. Sukeep Kaur has been one of the quiet, steady forces holding up the animal‑welfare community in Placer County. Her impact is profound, yet she rarely speaks of it. She simply shows up--day after day, year after year--offering her skill, compassion, and time to the people and pets who need her most. Dr. Kaur is known throughout our region as a veterinarian who leads with her heart. She routinely provides free spay and neuter surgeries for low‑income families and for individuals who have no means to pay. She never advertises this generosity; she simply steps in when she sees a need. For many pet owners, her kindness is the difference between keeping a beloved companion or surrendering them. For countless cats and kittens, her willingness to help has prevented suffering and reduced the number of unwanted litters entering local shelters. Her partnership with Kitten Central--our nonprofit neonatal veterinary hospital--has been invaluable. For over fifteen years, Dr. Kaur has been the person we call when emergencies arise, when a fragile newborn kitten needs immediate intervention, or when we face a medical question that requires expert insight. She has never once turned us away. Her guidance has saved lives that would not have survived without her. One of the most meaningful examples of her community impact is her involvement in Senior Saturdays, a monthly outreach program she participates in with one of our board members. Together, they visit nursing homes and assisted‑living communities, bringing small, gentle kittens for residents to hold and interact with. These visits are more than a moment of joy--they are therapy. Residents who seldom speak begin talking. Those who rarely smile light up. Individuals with memory challenges become calm and engaged. Dr. Kaur handles each kitten with tenderness and each resident with dignity, creating a bridge of comfort between generations. Her presence transforms the room. Despite her extensive volunteer work, Dr. Kaur maintains a demanding professional schedule. She works four days a week at one Rocklin Ranch location and fills in at their other practice whenever a veterinarian is sick or on vacation. Most people would call that exhausting. She calls it relaxing. Her dedication to her profession is matched only by her love for the animals and families she serves. What makes Dr. Kaur truly exceptional is not just the number of hours she gives, but the spirit in which she gives them. She never seeks recognition. She never asks for credit. She simply believes that helping animals--and the people who love them--is her responsibility as a veterinarian and as a member of this community. I am certain that what I know of her contributions is only a fraction of the whole. Her humility means that much of her good work happens quietly, without fanfare. But the impact is unmistakable: healthier pets, supported families, comforted seniors, and a stronger, more compassionate community. For her unwavering service, her extraordinary generosity, and her deep commitment to both people and animals, Dr. Sukeep Kaur deserves to be recognized as Veterinarian of the Year. Her work has touched thousands of lives, and our community is immeasurably better because of her.
