My beautiful Labrador was diagnosed with mammary cancer in January. A very reputable, traditional veterinary oncologist told me she had six to seven months to live "with or without chemo". This was pretty much confirmed by two other very fine more traditional veterinarians. A friend recommended Dr. Jyl, saying she'd had great success with cancer in dogs. Our first visit was amazing, with her spending two hours with us followed up by educational emails on holistic cancer treatments at 3:00 that morning. She has performed a variety of different treatments on my dog for the past seven months. It's now late July, the cancer appears in remission and my girl acts like a puppie at eight years old, doing the zoomies, swimming and playing. Periodic treatments include ozone, mistletoe, microbiome therapy, high dose vitamin C, and hypothermia, among others, all therapies that traditional vets seem unaware of. While the traditional vets offered no hope, Dr. Jyl has taken an integrative approach that, so far, is working miracles. I don't think I could find a more dedicated, enthusiastic and creative veterinarian. She's constantly researching cures and consulting with a worldwide group of vets practicing alternative methods of healing to keep ahead of new and successful therapies. I had an appt last week. They took my dog into the back without me, and I sat in the lobby for the entire visit which I thought was weird. I prefer to be with my dog. It only got worse. At 3 different points a tech came out and offered to upsell supplements and tests she doesn't need, and I realized that I was there to get my dog checked out so she could have her teeth cleaned anesthesia free, and the vet was there to make the most money she can. Also during the 80 minutes (yes almost 1.5 hrs) I waited in the lobby, they squeezed an emergency in along with my time slot, the vet tech came out and reprimanded the receptionist 4 times. It was so awkward. While I didn't disagree with the vet tech - dont use white out on medical records, why dont we have vaccine records for this pet already, etc...you should praise in public and reprimand in private. I tried to ignore it so she wouldnt think I heard. After the third attempt to upsell me - this time on a vitamin D test, I said no thanks, and told the receptionist "I really need to be going now" She understood, as I'd been there awhile with the other emergency being worked concurrently, and coordinated my departure. I paid and left. It was @ $550 in total, which was extraordinarily high for a consult, with some vitamins. When I got home I reviewed my receipt, I discovered I was charged twice for a supplement I bought. I emailed the dr and asked for a credit, and noticed she charges 120% what the manufacturer charges for their own supplement, so I asked if this was in error and if so, (I provided proof of the price) could I get a price adj, to include the 3% surcharge they added for using a CC? The vet replied by stating it was my fault the receptionist was flustered, and made the mistake. I brought stress to the office by being impatient. What a crock of shit. I sat quietly for 80 minutes, played with their office kitties, played solitaire and tried to be invisible when the receptionist was getting yelled at. Her stress was from getting reprimanded by their own people, not anything I did. And the vet stated they use a 50% mark up on supplements, which clearly is an unresearched, inaccurate answer. And she wouldn't try to refund the 3% surcharge, as I was made aware of the payment policy at the time of the visit. I was so unimpressed at this point...with everything. Then, because she got offended that I called her out for trying to blame me rather than taking ownership of her own office personnel, and demanding she refund the 3% surcharge on the mistaken charge, she stated she wouldn't see my dog for the teeth cleaning. Classic deflection of responsibility. What a colossal waste of my time and money. Don't go here. Read the Vet's reply...what a fabrication. My lovely Cocker is 10 and many other vets have seen her over her lifetime, including UC Davis Ophthalmology, and East Sac Vet, who is amazing, and not one has said she has a heart murmur. Clearly she's been cared for well, but you cant prevent glaucoma from taking an eye, even with treatment. Stating she's in terrible health is easily refuted, by her 3 other reputable veterinarians, and exaggerating the state of her teeth is a convenient lie. And you seem mystified why I mentioned I was an ATC'er...it was in response to your inaccurate belief about how you use a 50% markup. I had to explain simple math to you, and yet you still misunderstand your own business profit mechanisms...In my career good math skills are a must, and mine are good; clearly yours are not. I lost all ability to be polite when arguing with you about simple math, when your response needed to be "Oops, I'll fix it" Thats all I needed to hear. You can twist the story anyway you want, but if you had agreed to correct the obvious duplicate charge and CC surcharge for that amount, without arguing I wasnt entitled to it, or blaming me for the event, we wouldnt be here. read more

I don't even know where to begin. Dr. Jyl's Mobile Vet Connection has been a lifesaver for my cat (Wilson) who was diagnosed with FHS a few years back. Other vets who treated him just kept medicating him without working on the root of the problem. While there are very limited resources as to why FHS occurs in cats, Dr. Jyl drilled down to every possible reason why my cat has FHS. FHS is extremely complicated and I was so excited to finally find a vet who is willing to go the extra mile to help my cat. Dr. Jyl spent 3 full hours with us on day one discussing her ideas and brainstorming less invasive ways to treat my cat. We started with allergy testing and found out that my cat is allergic to chicken and salmon. We tried many other remedies that she suggested and so many have worked! I love that Dr. Jyl thinks outside of the 'box' and makes the extra effort to help in every way she can. Her staff is also really great, especially Abby. My cat also suffers from severe anxiety and treating him can be a real challenge. Dr. Jyl and her staff roll out the red carpet for him when he visits and makes him feel comfortable during his appointments. I can't say enough about Dr. Jyl and her staff. If you are on the fence about which vet to choose - jump off and call Dr. Jyl! I promise, you won't be disappointed! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Jyl and her staff. Her and her staff are VERY knowledgeable and caring. I have to admit I am blown away by a couple of the negative reviews. Was our Mini Pig "GiGi" first visit today. Dr Jyl was thorough, patient and kind during our 2+ hour visit. As new piggy pet parents, we are apprehensive and have lots of questions. The doctor and staff answered all of our questions and was very gentle with our baby pig. Since this office is into holistic healing in addition to the conventional veterinarian practices, we have options as far as treatment for our pet. We love that we have lots of treatment options to choose from as well as price ranges. We feel more confident in our pig parenting after our visit. Prices for the visit, shots, vitamins and treatment were quite reasonable since so much time and care was spent with us and GiGi ($350). Dr. Jyl was very thorough. It was $160 for my dogs first exam which was comprehensive and 2+ hours of time well spent. She went over every question I've always had but other vets could not answer regarding my dog's seizures. She also found issues in my dogs records that the last veterinarian never told me about: an enlarged heart on an ex ray, and pneumonia which they blew off as being allergies. Explains the new heart murmur he had the last time I had taken him to the previous place. Now that he's been treated appropriately with antibiotics and probiotics, my little Chugbug has his energy and vitality back and we have a vet who is knowledgeable in her expertise and takes her time going over every detail. read more

I couldn't be more disappointed and disgusted with this veterinary practice. They are in humane in my opinion. In short, my dog was seen 7 months ago for seizures and what turned out to be a brain tumor. She's 14.5 year old golden retriever in her last stage of life. She sent me home with meds and fluids and she recovered somewhat. 7 months later she became unable to eat or drink. They promised me they would come out to euthanize when the time came. I called for a euthanasia apt and they said no, drop off was my only option. I found a euthanasia only service that could come out to my home- but my dog perked up a little bit the next day. I called and asked if I could come get a bag of fluids since she is thirsty, standing at the water bowl, but cannot drink. No. Even though it's not a medication, even though she's been seen in the last year, even though she's almost 15 years old and dying - the only option they gave me was to drop her off. I begged her to ask the dr again all I want is fluids for her end of life care. I was told no. I am deeply disgusted by the lack of consideration for quality of life. I hope no one ever counts on this vet practice for their pets health and safety. read more

I could write a novel. Dr Jyl saved my baby. My cat Lana has some mental issue where she was just destroying everything. I tried absolutely everything in the book and couldn't get her under control. He was well known to not have other dogs in the area and when she brought HER dog around and he lunged she "corrected" him by hitting him multiple times on video. Well, sometimes in life you run into someone who you had heard nothing but glowing reviews for, but in the end turns out to be a total quack. Dr. Jyl was one of those people, and after 4 months and $5,000 of vet bills and no cure, I'd had enough of the incompetence. One Google review from a man named George Bingen claims the $1,500 he wasted in her vet office probably paid for her airfare to New Zealand, well Mr. Bingen don't feel too bad, my $5,000 probably paid for her whole vacation! After initially bringing my 5 and a half year old dog in, she concluded that he needed to be on antibiotics for a yeast infection and that he should be back to normal in 6-8 weeks, fast forward 4 MONTHS and he was still in a cone, with a yeast infection, and a mess. Over-prescribing of antibiotics is very dangerous for a multitude of reasons, this goes for humans as well of course. I wanted to pursue some different course of treatment for the at the time mild yeast infection he still had, but I was forced to accept her oral antibiotic treatment for him. I figured she was the veterinarian and not me, so I relented. After about 4 months with Dr. Jyl's vet services I calculated how long my dog had been on antibiotics for, and the answer was about 2 1/2 months out of the past 4 months! This was clearly overkill and over-prescription of antibiotics, and it undoubtedly weakened his immune system. When confronted with just the possibility that she had over-prescribed antibiotics she becomes very angry and defensive, she never comments about that possibility, instead she blames almost any and every other conceivable possibility, no matter how far fetched, giving rambling and often self-contradicting explanations of why my dog hasn't gotten cured for his simple yeast infection. You'll notice the blame never shifts to herself or any possible mistakes she may have made, it's always on other people or things. Her attitude is very defensive and disturbing, so much so that my wife was shocked at her defensive remarks and attitude when she met her for the first time after 4 months of treatment, (and keep in mind we still had a sick dog in a cone). Remember, this all started for a yeast infection, not stage 4 cancer, this really isn't that unusual for dogs. After months of failed "treatments" with Dr. Jyl, I went searching for a new vet and found one. On the first examination visit with the new vet they told me that my dog had been prescribed almost 3 TIMES the amount of ketoconazole antibiotic medication that he should have been for his weight (she prescribed 800mg a day when the new vet said he should have been on 300mg). Small wonder that he had bloody stool and was vomiting constantly! And yes, those are the exact symptoms of ketoconazole overdose, and yes, the symptoms disappeared as soon as he ceased taking the medication. After a pancreatitis and intestinal parasite test both came back clean, there was no doubt my poor dog suffered due to Dr. Jyl's negligence. Of course Dr. Jyl got extremely defensive (as usual) and insisted she had made no mistakes on her prescriptions or dosages, I guess that's what I would say too if I were in fear of being called out for malpractice by a client. And in the midst of all this office employees STILL try to upsell you on all sorts of what I would describe as "gimmick" remedies and treatments for the dog, which had NOTHING to do with his yeast infection, it really got old. It took LESS THAN 2 WEEKS for my new Vet to fully cure my dog and he was out of his cone and happy again! There's your proof Dr. Jyl is a quack. One review on Google reviews describes her vet office as a "bohemian nightmare"; that is actually a very good description of the office itself. Her vet office is very smelly and dirty; after having been in there more times than I can count it doesn't appear to be cleaned very often. I know that she will likely respond to this review with an explanation of why my dog stayed sick under her care and how it's not her fault and that her treatments were all correct and she did not over-prescribe antibiotics. Do not fall for it, I am not a stupid person, I have had plenty of medical issues myself during my life, and in many ways animals and humans are not that different. If you over-prescribe antibiotics you are weakening the immune system and can actually cause more issues than you started with, and it's very dangerous, and that's what happened to my poor dog. A simple and sincere apology would be nice, but I know I won't get one, just another defensive explanation of how it isn't her fault. Please, take your pets elsewhere, they (and your wallet) will thank you for it. read more

Very kind and compassionate, she combines traditional medicine with non traditional medicine to for a gentle approach. She understands the importance of diet, exercise and supplementation when needed. The same things we would do for ourselves when we get sick or to keep from getting sick. It's a lot about disease prevention. If you want to keep your pet healthy this is the place to go. Also, we were able to get an extra year out of our dog that was in poor health, because of her. I rescued a cocker with end stage ear disease. I had been to 3 vets who threw antibiotic and ear flushes at us and rushed us out the door. One UC Davis vet attending told me she would not had done as much for him. (Why she became a vet is beyond me. Her resident was much more humble and seemed to care). I left in tears. I saw Dr. Jyl on the news discussing ozone treatment and made an appointment. Dr. Jyl was very kind. She discussed ear infections, end stage ear disease, allergies and nutrition with me and how to make him crockpot meals (see her website). She was the first vet who discussed nutrition with me and not just ask what dog food I use. She treated him with ozone, antibiotics and other ear packing meds. This took dedication on my part at getting his deep ear infections treated. I had him allergy tested and found that Sam was allergic to a lot of foods. I was able to tailor his crockpot meals. Dr Jyl tailored his home care ear cleaning maintenance. We have not had to return to the vet for an ear infection for about a year and a half. Sam and I highly recommend Dr. Jyl and for those of you who have fur babies with chronic ear infections and skin issues, allergy test them! It will save you a lot of money from repeated visits, medications and save your fur baby from unnecessary pain. I thank you Dr. Jyl for being dedicated to animals. I am so grateful we found you. I was in need of a vet for my chicken. I googled and Dr. Jyl was the first to pop up for area chicken vets. I had an urgent situation that I was very upset about. I called and spoke to someone on the phone looking for advice or to be seen. The woman was incredibly rude and very dismissive of my feelings and situation. She said she couldn't see my chicken for 5 days (a holiday weekend) and had no interest in offering support or advise over the phone. I ended up calling the bird clinic in Roseville and they were BEYOND amazing in both my initial phone call + fitting my chicken in for a same day apt! Agree with Kathi. Went in for a consultation for teeth cleaning. After a lengthy wait the Dr came in for a consultation. When she left the room, girl came in with a list of tests, vitamins, etc. totaling $535. The tooth cleaning would be another $212. There was a $62.50 consultation and $52.50 office call. I told her I only wanted the tests required for the dental. The bill then totaled $272 plus $212 for the cleaning. Almost $500 for a 20 minute procedure. I heard about this vet from my sister in law when I was desperate looking for a qualified vet. My dogs ear flap was continually filling up w fluid... i already spent allot w "dr. Quack" including surgery. I was relieved an very impressed by Dr, Jyl an her friendly staff, She was patient as I spilled out my frustrations on the prior tx of the other vet an knew what tx she was to do for my little buddy. I had brought in my rabbit in November 2016 for a pulled nail. He received treatment and it healed up with just a scab that needed to fall off on it's own. Was told I wasn't to get my rabbit back because an Adult Protective Services guy said I was to not get the rabbit back. Surrendered him thinking treatment was going to be $6000+. Did get the rabbit back and paid less than what I was told it would be. Come January my rabbit chewed at his foot. The same foot with the pulled nail. I was questioned like it was my fault he chewed at his foot. I only did what I was told and that was to put a sock on his foot so he wouldn't chew at it. I asked if his leg could be amputated and for a printout of the estimate. I never received any printouts of estimates and my request for amputation was refused. I was told they'll be doing treatment instead and it could be $10,000. When I would call, or receive calls, I was never given the specific amount of what would be owed on my part. Amount was always rounded up. Instead, I would be reminded of how I have to give pets up because can't afford them and because Adult Protective Services required me to. Spoke to me like I was stupid. Claimed I didn't call in a few months one time they called. The only one who gave me exact amounts was the guy receptionist. The only document I ever received was a surrender form. After I surrendered my rabbit for the 2nd and final time is when I was pressured into paying the vet bill. Now I'm being sued. My advice to anyone who is in the same predicament as myself, lack of funds and dealing with agencies, don't go to this vet and tell the woman receptionist/vet tech or the vet about your financial hardships. You'll be reminded of them constantly and spoken to as though you're stupid. Also, insist on getting printouts of estimates. There are a couple of good people who work at the vet. I just hope that whoever adopted my Bugsy loves him as much as I do and knows he was my little rock for the almost 2 years I had him. read more

Dr Jyl is, hands down, "The Best Vet in Sacramento". I took my sick little Pomeranian to Dr Jyl, she was amazing. He's alive today as a result. She was able to diagnose him immediately. She is perceptive and detailed. Her staff is knowledgable and pleasant. They repaired a ruptured anal gland and performed laser surgery. Dr. Jyl explained exactly how to prevent any future problems. In my case, the condition was primarily attributed to diet. Dr Jyl helped me structure a new diet that will improve his overall health. Based on the caring / focused first class service Maxx, my 3 year old French bulldog and I experienced, I find the negative reviews on this site inexplicable. With that said Maxx had the congenital airway issues many brachycephalic breeds have; elongate soft palate, stenotic nares inhibiting nose breathing and difficulty eating and breathing through the mouth at the same time. Because of Dr Jyl's expert surgery procedures and post-operative care by her and her incredible staff I can proudly say Maxx is a totally different dog today. Maxx had some difficulty after the surgery requiring intensive care. Some of Dr Jyl's staff rearranged their schedules providing Maxx hands on care throughout the evening and night with Dr Jyl spending the night on the floor with him guiding Maxx through some touch and go post op episodes. By noon the next day Maxx was up and going strong and I picked him up later that afternoon. Today almost 3 weeks later Maxx is fully recovered, a fireball of energy and more athletic than ever. He has also discovered a renewed sense of smell as an added benny in addition to being able to breathe properly. I am forever grateful to Dr Jyl and her staff for proving me many years to come with Maxx by making such a difference in his ability to breathe and function as my best 4 legged friend. It has been 3 months since we first contacted Dr. Jyl's Mobile Vet Connection looking for chiropractic care for our small dog, Jack. Jack had been having back and front leg pain for 3-4 months. We'd had to take him in to emergency vets twice in the middle of the night for morphine injections. Though we had xrays and tests done, no one could figure out what was wrong. Dr. Jyl performed weekly chiropractic adjustments, 10 weeks of Adequan injections and put Jack on a grain free diet. Gradually Jack improved, and now he is an active, pain-free dog. He got his youthful spunk back! We are SO pleased!! We were also very happy with the kind and helpful staff who kept in touch and made sure Jack was doing well. Dr. Jyl advertises herself as a mobile vet for potbelly pigs, but she does NOT provide services that require any anesthesia in her mobile "office". which would include the piggy tune-up. Her actual office smells very bad, like it needs cleaning. When my pig got sick again (after her treatment at an earlier time) they could not accommodate me. Her staff with the exception of Kim is great. Kim is rude, cold and berated a trainee in front of me when I was in their office. I spent nearly $3000 here, and thought I had found a savior. After 21 years of potbelly pets, I feel I have some experience with vets who know their stuff. Take my advice and take your piggies to UCD. They are caring and knowledgeable. You will not find a more knowledgeable and caring small animal vet than Dr. Jyl! I searched for a long time to find a vet for my rats and am SO thankful I came across Dr. Jyl and her wonderful team! Not only is it very apparent by the location, atmosphere, and detail that she cares tremendously about her patients and business, but she is a one-woman show. She sees all animals which is very rare and special. I am always tentative with small animal vets as I sometimes feel I am more knowledgeable about rats health and behavior specifically (I've owned rats a lonnng time), but Dr. Jyl puts my anal obsessive mom mind at ease. Not only does she know her stuff, but I have NEVER had a vet come out and talk to me about my rats or rats in general for 15 minutes after my appointment was over. I've never experienced a vet to care so much and be so personable. I cannot recommend this place enough, my boys and I are regulars now and forever! read more

I had my first visit this week with my doggie Zephyr. The staff was friendly and seemed just as well educated as Dr.Jyl which was awesome. They spend a lot of time with you, which may just be the first visit but it made me feel confident in her and her staff. Most vets/doctors dismiss you or don't appear to have the time of day for your endless questions and concerns. If you want someone who is willing to explain things to you, keep you informed, and give you options that will help promote a long and healthy life for your pet, Dr.Jyl seems like the veterinarian to go to! read more

As a friend and customer of Dr. Jyl I just have to reply to couple of the people posting nasty stuff about her. To Brian O: I asked Dr. Jyl about this review. She has no idea who you are or what animal you brought in. I suspect you've never even been there. She'd be happy to talk to you about your supposed rude treatment. I've never been treated rudely by the staff so it makes me wonder what kind of attitude you walked in with. You post plenty of negative reviews about local businesses and many of them I've used and thought were great. To Anon A: You are an idiot. Dr. Jyl is not now or ever been on probation. She has a thriving practice with happy customers. Get your facts straight and stop slandering a local business. To Name W. You don't even have the guts to post a real name. Dr. Jyl doesn't have an office manager. You claim you turned her into BBB and sued yet there has not been any lawsuit brought against this clinic. Stop slandering and spreading lies you low life. I'm disgusted the way these lies are spread via Yelp with no verification of truth. Everyone reading reviews about ANY business should keep this in mind. Took my dog to Dr. Jyl to have anethesia free teeth cleaning. My dogs teeth were in desparate need of being cleaned, she had gingivitis, bad breath and lots of tartar. My dog doesnt like to chew bones or toys that would help clean her teeth and although I brush her teeth, couldnt get them clean enough. My dog is not friendly with other dogs. She has always been nervous at the vet and so i was concerned she might need a sedative to get through the teeth cleaning. i called when i was out front of the office. The staff made sure all dogs were out of sight, i brought my dog in, she trembled for a few minutes while we got her weight and then she settled down. Her teeth were cleaned by the expert technician, no sedatives needed. My dog was returned to me calmer than I handed her off to the technician. Her teeth were gleaming white! She looked like she had gone to my dentist, had her teeth cleaned and whitened! A fabulous job! One of the techs also talked to me about healthy food and why dry food only is not a good option. We added a small amount of wet food back into her diet and a teaspoon of coconut oil once a day. My dog no longer rolls and scratches her back everytime we go to the park! We solved two problems for the price of one. Great people, friendly and definitely care about you and your pet! Highly recommend the Mobile Vet Connection. read more
