She carries bigger bags of dog food to my car than I can, that's for sure! She and Colleen are icons and you will see them every time you shop their store. I love this place! They bake dog goodies fresh, and have an eclectic and plentiful selection of food and other necessities for dogs and cats. When I used to go in often, when my dear dog was still living, there was a St. Bernard and another dog, and at least one cat always hanging out there. Customers often bring their dogs with them to socialize with the other animals at PCs. All of this happens peacefully and harmoniously. I bought a cat stroller there awhile back which makes it so a person can take their cat for a walk in a nice airy little sturdy cloth and netting carriage type conveyance. My cat loved it, but it was a bit too eccentric, even for Boulder. Maybe I'll try it again in a less public area than the lake trail by my house, so not as many people roar with laughter when they see me walking my cat!! Anyway, I most highly recommend PC's Pantry. I have been in this store several times for their homemade doggie treats. This week I went because I wanted to talk to someone knowledgeable about dog food and the FDA guidelines that state not to give dogs food that contain peas, chickpeas, lentils or potatoes because these products bind with essential nutrients preventing absorption. This is known to cause Dilated Cardio Myopathy in dogs leading to death. Owner was only one there apparently who could talk to me. As I wandered waiting for her to finish with her current customer, I checked for ingredients in her dog food selection. Almost every food bag that I picked up included those ingredients. After a half hour, I left without talking to anyone about dog food and without buying dog food. read more

I was looking for a birthday cake for my pup and saw that they sold these, they even advertise them on their site. The annoying part is that they post absolutely no information on their "bark day cakes" other than the sizes and flavors. No prices, no photos. Weird. I drove here after work to get some information on the cakes and check the place out. It was decently busy, there were about 6 other people in the store when I was, the store was a mess but I'm going to assume they were stocking the shelves and give them the benefit of the doubt. Even with three employees I stood in line forever. Why? Because the staff were all too busy talking to the customers for extended periods of time, even with people waiting in line. I feel like this is the type of place that loves their regulars but won't give you a second glance if they don't know you. ANYWAY, I asked the gentleman who "helped" me about the cakes. Before I could even finish my sentence he curtly said they need 24 hours notice. Cool bro, I didn't want one today. He literally had NO information about the cakes which I found strange since they have an entire (unhelpful) section about them on their site. Me: "How much do they cost?" Guy: "...30...40...?" Me: "What do they look like?" Guy: Goes to the back and grabs two ugly frozen discs of maybe meat (?) wrapped in cling wrap. "This and then we decorate it." I waited for him to give me at least a little detail about decorating but alas...none. This place just really rubbed me the wrong way, I hate to leave a bad review for a small business but maybe they need a wakeup call. Here's another nugget of advice: you are in Boulder. People love their dogs. You are one of the only places that makes dog cakes (allegedly, I can neither confirm nor deny that they really make them since I still have no proof). Take a second and post some photos and options of the cakes you offer! Or better yet, have something you can show people if they are in store, even ONE photo would be helpful! read more

I drive past PC's on a regular basis when my Westie and I visit the Valmont Dog Park. I finally decided to take the time to check it out and stock up on training treats. There are lots of excellent choices for healthy corn/wheat/soy free treats, that are also low calorie. They seemed to have a great selection of store made treats as well. Unfortunately, I only feel that it was an okay experience. No one in the store was friendly or helpful. I noticed that everyone in line in front of me was treated to a complimentary treat for their dog, but my dog got nothing. I also didn't like that I heard the girl ringing ask several people if they were a frequent buyer (had some type of card??)- I assume it's either for some type of frequency discount or so they can track what you buy to customize maybe the offers you get. I don't know, but it wasn't mentioned to me which I thought was odd. I didn't bother saying anything because I've found other doggie stores in the Boulder area that seem to suit me better in terms of service. Overall, it seems like a decent place to shop if you care about the ingredients in your dog or cats' food/treats, but I didn't think their service was anything special. read more

MaryLee and staff have helped us a lot over the years with our previous dog, a minature schnauzer that had a lot of health problems (oh, Phoebe), and with Brady (boi), our new lab/terrier puppy. Always loving personal attention and excellent advice. They really CARE And the treats, cookies, natural foods (Boulder Dog Food!), toys, collars, bowls, etc. they have are all great! They work SO hard - they're in the store all the time! ...OK, some things are a little pricey at PC, so we don't get EVERYTHING for da boi there (e.g. basic IAMs bones our doggie digs), but they're such great people, we feel a little guilty about it :P read more

Another fantastic place to bring your animal. My friend and I both became dog mothers within two weeks and I wanted to check out a cool store for us to shop at in Boulder while I visited. About a half hour before we entered the store my dog was chasing my friend's puppy and they got so excited, my little dude ripped his dewclaw in half. Youch! I asked the ladies for advice and they instantly came to the rescue. One of the employees grabbed some cleaner and gauze and wrap and fixed him all up. I was so thankful. I ended up purchasing some animal meat "discs" for $1.00 a piece and some shampoo. They recommended the brand I got after I mentioned his dry skin. I'm excited to give him a bath, he's going to smell so good. Thank You PC's. My boy is doing fine and he didn't need a vet visit because you took such good care of him with the bandaging. Full disclosure: I run a pet sitting business, and P.C.'s Pantry often refers clients to me. Also, when my clients are looking for advice on pet food, I send them here. We have a mutually beneficial business relationship. BUT, my review comes from the point of view as a customer as I shop there too. I have a goofy Basset Hound mix and a cat, and as many people can say, they eat better than I do. When I adopted my dog, I put her on a quality food and P.C.'s was more than happy to help me out in choosing one. They have helpful advice on toys and grooming supplies too! Whenever I go in there with my dog, they give her lots of love and treats. If I don't have my dog with me, they ask me where she is! I have seen them remember many customers names and pet's names too. If your dog or cat has special diet restrictions (i.e. no wheat, corn, etc.), they are more than willing to help you find a diet that will work within those parameters. They always ask if it is OK to give treats too. It is a very personal experience for the dedicated pet owner. I love the fact that they have store pets who roam around and are treated like famly. I wish Yelp offered 10 stars instead of 5, because that's how I feel about PC's Pantry. MaryLee and her wonderful employees have been taking such good care of me and my rescue dog for a year, so I decided it was time to thank them publicly. When I first brought "Louise" home, she wouldn't eat. I had purchased good quality food elsewhere but it sat in the bowl, untouched. So I went to PC's pantry, and took my big fraidy-cat rescue dog along. MaryLee loaded me up with samples, including some big hunks of frozen raw food. Louise turned out to be a picky eater, and not at all motivated by food, but we were finally able to settle on a GREAT kibble for her. It's not cheap, and you won't find it at Safeway or Costco, but it was an excellent choice for my big picky girl. Since then we've been back for boots, leashes, toys, treats and poop bags. Every time we go in for another giant bag of dog food we leave with a little bag of FREE homemade treats, and Louise loves these so much I have to keep them on a very high shelf. The toys are wonderful, BTW. And PC's is the only place I've found that sells the absolute best dog boots--they stay on no matter how deep the snow is or how hard Louise runs. Last week I brought home a foster dog from the shelter. This little girl, a stray, was a hot mess--literally. She had lots of bald patches and her skin was raw and irritated from allergies--all she wanted to do was scratch and scratch. MaryLee GAVE me a natural herbal spray to use as a topical on the hot spots, and a food supplement that she thought might help. I offered to pay for the products, but she insisted that I take them for free, because she wanted to help out a poor foster dog!!! And she advised me to put a T-shirt on the dog to keep her from scratching her belly. Now, a week later, the little foster dog is looking better, feeling better, and not scratching as much and I think some of her fur is growing back. She may get adopted out, if this progress continues! So THANK YOU MaryLee and PC's Pantry, for your great products but mostly for your care and help and advice. You've earned my loyalty! read more

Reasons I love PC's: 1. They gave me so many trial sizes of cat food to find something good that my finicky rescue would eat, and great advice on how to do the trials to get an honest result. 2. Excellent advice on supplementing with raw food, and which brand. 3. Frequent buyer program for many of the food brands. 4. I trust their quality -- I do my own research, pick the product, and then PCs will have it (or be willing to order it for me if they don't). 5. They care - it's a small business, and if I go in at a busy time I may have to wait to get a question answered, but they won't skimp on my answer when it's my turn. 6. Their St. Bernard is patient with my 13 pounds of Tibbie attitude (and the shop cats are patient with him too). And most importantly... My dog firmly believes their home cooked biscuits are crack, and gets offended if I offer him something else when he knows he's earned a biscuit. read more

Was good at first until I had to return a dog food bag that had a hole in it -before opening. They told me my dogs must have tore through it, which was impossible as the bag was stored high up. They did refund me however when I bought a new bagbat the same visit, I asked for the complimentary treats they offer to everyone who purchases food there, and the clerk asked the owner if he could give to us and she said no. I called and wanted to talk to someone about the poor customer service and no one called me back. k9 cuisine online has way better prices and you can skip the unfriendly drama. read more

I was sent to PCs pantry in search of a cover to put on my dogs bandage. Though they didn't have one, they were pretty helpful in coming up with alternative solutions. This store is well-stocked. Lots of natural treats and food, fun toys and almost every possible pet accessory imaginable. I ended up leaving with some colorado made organic treats and a great nail file I absolutely love. We came in today for the first time to buy dog shampoo, a leash, treats, and baked goods. The service was so slow (the line took no less than 20 minutes) that we ended up just buying the shampoo. We waited in line at the baked goods counter and were ignored by two employees who did not acknowledge us, so I assumed they were busy. A woman came and cut us, and was helped right away. And then a man did the same thing. We waited for the man to finish and stepped up to the counter, and both employees walked to the back without saying a word. I guess they don't need the business, as it was busy despite the slow service and disorganized staff. We have no interest in coming back and would rather support a local business that values its customers. read more

Love, love, love this pet store... Excellent selection of dog and cat supplies, the best (healthiest) treats and foods, awesome toys and a friendly, helpful staff. Every time we come in, we spend an extra 15 minutes just browsing around, coming up with a "wish" list.. This is not a cheap pet store, but the overall value is excellent because you do get what you pay for. Especially when it comes to buying top of the line foods and treats for your pet... We have no complaints and only compliments for the owner, who has obviously put a lot of thought into her selection of merchandise and her well-trained staff. As our budget expands, we will be buying all the little extras we find here :-) For now, we go in monthly to stock up on Orijen Six Fish, Rad Cat raw cat food and Fromm's kibble , assorted raw and dehydrated foods for the pups, some yummy treats and chews for everyone, and World's Best cat litter (which actually IS the best cat litter we've ever used, as lifelong cat owners and professional pet sitters since 2008... we highly that recommend cat owners try this safe, efficient, relatively clean litter). Yes, we could get World's Best at Target for a few dollars less, but we like to support local business whenever possible. It's nice to get all of the gang's staples in one shot. A few weeks ago, I bought a nice nail clipper here because the pups were long overdue (of course that meant I found our 3 other pairs a few days later...). I ended up spending less money than I had anticipated. This is the best pet store in Boulder, in my opinion. Excellent selection and not just the same cookie-cutter stuff that's in the corporate pet stores. Wonderful, helpful staff, and they even have several adorable animals who hang out in the shop and will "help" you with your shopping. As you walk past the cat beds or towers, you may find a sweet little cat napping on the merchandise. :) Their parking lot is shaded by a huge, gorgeous tree, which is a nice perk with our 90+-degree summer days here in Boulder. Once I went in looking for a scratcher for my cat, didn't find what I wanted, and one of the employees offered to look through their suppliers' catalog to help me find something that would work. She spent quite a bit of time with me, listening to what I wanted and trying to find a good match for my needs. She did a special order for me and actually followed through and called me when my merchandise came in. Best service of any pet store I've seen. They have a good selection of quality foods and chews, a nice raw food selection, and one time they sold me something from their personal stash in the back because they didn't sell it retail! Let's be clear - this is a higher end pet store and you may end up spending more on things than if you bought them at PetCo or Walmart. But, every dog toy we've bought there has lasted longer than anything else we've bought - we have a 70 lb dog that plays hard so keeping a squeaky ball or rope toy for 2 months is a big deal. These were also bought on sale there so weren't killer spendy. They also worked really hard with me to pick out some items BEFORE we rescued our dog - no easy task since we only had pictures to work off of and I hadn't even met our dog live. They gave me excellent advice and offered that if anything didn't fit they would apply a very generous return policy. Finally, every time we've been in, they've been incredibly giving. They offer time, expertise, answer my questions, have rescues they donate to, and they accompany my purchases with some dog cookies for free. I can't afford to do all of my dog-supply shopping there but do as much of it as I can there because of their genuine care for me and my dog! read more

Mary Lee and Colleen are the absolute best. If you need nutritional advice about your pet they are more knowledgeable than most vets! The place is full of friendly animals, our dogs love to shop with us. They offer a full line of packaged and canned cat and dog food and also have their delightful bakery which provides cookies, bison treats and our Great Dane's fave: liver cake. Our dogs always get a "barkday cake" every birthday - it comes decorated with their name and a cookie candle. Oh, and the snickerdoggie cookies are delicious for humans as well!! read more

PC's Pantry is such a great little shop! I love that it's local, and that they bake their doggie treats fresh daily! They're very generous with the treats, too, and are always giving our pup samples (and giving us bags of treats to take home when we visit!)
