It's a pity that you rarely find these type of places... the type that seems as if making money is an afterthought because of the love of what they do. If you're into trains then this place is absolutely for you. They sell other types models of "traditional" models other than trains but they don't carry them in stock and require ordering.

We bought a Christmas gift that literally broke while we were still opening gifts. This was gifted to a gentle kid who was not using it outside of the expected use, and a piece broke off. I took it back to the store and the employee man-splained to me that even though it was broken, it still worked. He actually located the item on Amazon to show me what part was missing. I LITERALLY WATCHED IT BREAK. It was beyond insulting. I finally said that if he wasn't going to exchange or refund, Id like to leave (he kept the item this entire time and wasnt giving it back). Additionally, we bought a lionel item for a family member who had a duplicate. They had a record of the sale in the computer and still found a way to deny an exchange of an unopened item. Stores like this are why Amazon thrives. Even when I try to buy from the little guys, they find a way to make me regret it.

We went again today and even found a whole section we'd missed the first time! The working model trains were so fun to watch too! And the owner/worker was so kind, so knowledgeable, and very helpful! If I had zero knowledge about model trains, I'd feel good just walking in to learn and get a set-up. He even had some Lego and duplo supplies (he said he'd sold out of Lego motorized trains but sells them and is getting more). He helped us pick out a small N scale that fit on a table and was so easy to just plug in, snap together, my 5 year old was doing it and able to build the track! Though he needs some help to get the train wheels on the track sometimes, but it's fantastic for his fine motor, problem solving, taking care of it is good for a sense of responsibility, and learning basic electrical wiring/engineering principles. The store also right by the Tex rail station! We made it a train day by riding Tex rail to downtown Grapevine for ice cream and pie, looking at the model train in the clock tower for ideas, then a ride to the model store! Such a great day, now tonight we're making houses, ducks, ponds from air dry clay and the scenery we bought from The Model Train Crossing. But seriously such a great store, an amazing place for kids! (And also for getting something that's 'for the kids' but secretly for you! :) ). I also saw tons of supplies that were clearly for experts, advanced sets! Fun to dream and will be fun to work up to that!

Moved to this area 1 year ago, and this is the best location I have found for basic fine art…read moresupplies. I like being able to buy individual paint brushes, paint tubes, and alcohol markers. I haven't found this anywhere else. They also stock a lot of great items for the home school art classes that I teach (air dry clay, beads, paints, pastels, paper). This location can be really picked over, though, and it stays that way for weeks. It's not uncommon for an item to be out of stock or all available items to be damaged (like the individual paint brushes), and for the aisle to look the same three weeks later. Today I had to go to another Michael's, and despite paper pads being on sale for the past few weeks, the other location was fully stocked in every brand and size. The staff here is friendly and very helpful at the self-checkout.

They also have a lot of stuff for the collectors too. The staff is great and very knowledgeable about this market and very helpful to boot. The place is small but it holds a lot of stuff to buy. Prices are a little higher than places like wal-mart or target, but they are a sports shop not a big discount chain. And yes these guys are now my go to place for cards and accessories.

I've been coming here for a while but that's no longer going to be the case after my last encounter…read morewith the owner here. I handed him a stack of cards to look at for trade-in. After he looked at all the cards he was reluctant to give me a number. So I had to play the guessing game and just figure out what he was valuing it at. I had already done research on my cards so I knew what they were worth in my head. Well over $100. I asked him if he would trade for a $20 card and a $10 card. Making the value $30. I knew I was taking a loss but I didn't really Care, I figured I might as well trade cards I don't want for some cards I do want even if I'm taking a Loss in value. He said no way, It's impossible to get to that value, I'm valuing your cards at like $15. So I just laughed, Got on my phone and started getting screen shots of the values of all my cards So I can show him what I'm seeing. I finally get around to explaining to him the values of my cards with picture proof, And he says yeah but you're pulling that up on an app, Apps generate fake Sales too so it's not reliable. And then he said he goes off of eBay Instead. Funny thing is when you click on the links on the app it takes you to the eBay listing and it shows the price it was sold at. So I told him this is eBay, And by the way eBay is also an app. Then he just started arguing, And acting obnoxious. Saying he doesn't use apps, Blah blah blah. He also went on to say eBay is full of fake sales, but had just said he doesn't use apps, just eBay sales. I told him that everybody Uses these apps to determine the value of cards. He asked me who is everybody. I said other collectors, Other card shops. And he said are they running my business? And then he said when you order something on eBay can you get it in 30 seconds. And I said no. And he said exactly that's the benefit of retail is that you can get it in 30 seconds and not have to pay for Shipping and fees. I said OK well you're just making my point stronger than because that means people paid more than what you're saying my cards are worth not only on price, But they also paid fees and shipping. Got to the point where I just had to leave, When I got out to my car I realized I had forgotten my drink inside and went back in. When I went back in he said some smart comment to me, In front of another customer. Just more of his usual nonsense. This guy is an absolute clown, And to his question about if these other places and people are running your business, No they are not. And that's why they are bigger than you, And that's why they have more product than you when you have none. The only product you have Is what you buy at another retail store, because nobody is sending you anything. You're too small of a business. And it's probably because of how small your way of thinking is.

Griffs reminds me of a marketplace with various sections of the store dedicated to local artists/crafters. There are plenty of goodies to check out, including home decor, bath, hair accessories etc. I enjoyed getting to look around and the ladies are nearby if you have any questions.
