PC Place 2 came to the rescue when I lost access to all the data files (approx. 750GB) on my home desktop computer, as well as the external backup drive. I needed to install a larger internal drive, but when I attempted to copy everything to transfer to the new drive, the process hung up at the end, and all the paths to locate the files on the original drive were wiped out. The unsuccessful copy was useless, and my attempts to restore the paths using third-party software failed. OK, so it was time to try restoring the most recent backup from an external drive, but that failed as well. Fearing the worst, I took everything to PC Place, where Charles was confident that the files could be recovered one way or another. He explained clearly what steps he recommended and what my options might be. After analyzing the situation, recovering everything from the backup seemed most promising. It took several days to accomplish it all, including installing new internal drives, preparing a new external backup drive, and performing a general tune-up of the system. After a nail-biter of a week, ALL my data files were restored exactly as they had been - whew!! Charles also provided recommendations for maintaining the system in the future. Amazing isn't a strong enough word. These guys are fabulous. I went in there with a 25 year old crashed hard drive. When he called me a day later and told me that the process they were using didn't work, not only was I suspicious but in my mind, I questioned whether or not this was part of the plan. He was going to have to use a better software tool to try and recover my data. This took a week! They rebuilt everything onto a refurbished dell laptop. Any questions I had about the validity of their reviews went right out the window. Our tech, whose name was Dylan, was absolutely amazing. With almost all 5-star reviews, I almost didn't write this. Then I saw that only 33 people have posted reviews. I had "a technician" come to my home to fix my computer. My No. 1 problem, for me, was that for various reasons, I couldn't get into Microsoft 365 (formerly Microsoft Office) to renew my subscription. I mentioned this when I made the appointment. Should not have been a surprise. When "the technician" got here, he had no idea how to get into my account. This morning I tried again to do it myself. And -- amazing -- I got in. Took me 15 minutes. I have paid over a thousand dollars to various computer repair places over the past two years. I am finally realizing that most "technicians" can't fix anything but the elementary stuff. Does anyone ever ask where they went to school to learn about computers?? Bet not. Me neither, unfortunately. I will from now on, that's for sure. I love places like this!! I called ahead to see what cases they had in stock and was able to pick one up. The experience from phone to build was awesome. It was smooth, painless and transparent. I originally went in looking for a less expensive case and they let me see the options in my price range but this be quiet case caught my eye. While it was a bit out of my price range, the staff was not pushing me in any way to get it which goes to show that they really do want their customers to be happy and satisfied. They let me know the advantages and disadvantages of the case and also walked me through the advantages and disadvantages of those in my price range. Before you replace your PC because some other computer repair store told you your PC can't be fixed don't believe them. It can be fixed at PC Place. I speak from experience. About two years ago I took my laptop to PC Place. A couple of days later it was fixed and upgraded with virus protection. They will tell you upfront what the problem is and how much it's going to cost. They don't try to talk you into adding things you don't need. Turned out that all they needed to do to resolve the problem was to reinstall OS X and they were too stupid to do that. They also left fingerprints inside the display glass and that is just sloppy work. read more

When my laptop wouldn't boot up after a Microsoft update, I began researching computer repair places. I'm new to the Q and needed to find someplace reputable. The PC Place showed up with high marks on Yelp and several other searches. I took my poor little Acer in and explained the problem. They seemed to know just what to do and explained their action plan as well as the costs thoroughly before I left. Being a Friday, they couldn't promise anything until the next week since they aren't open Saturdays or Sundays. Low and behold I got a call just a couple of hours later to tell me what they'd found. Again, they thoroughly explained my options and I decided to have them to replace my hard drive. They said they'd do everything they could to recover my data. Fast forward to Monday morning: sadly, they were unable to retrieve my data but told me they could send it out to a place that could...for a steep price. After deciding it wasn't worth it, they had my computer good to go just a few hours later. They even installed a link on my desktop so I can have them diagnose/ install remotely in the future! My PC "died" a week ago and I was bereft as I discovered that my backup files were incomplete. They pass the MOTHER test... In 7th grade, I built my first computer (with my buddy Phutzy). That was 1968 --- a decade before you could buy a personal computer. I have seen plenty of fads, hucksters, charlatans, and used car salesmen selling computers and services. It is a rare instance that I am impressed by a personal computer store. I found these guys over 10 years ago, when I had my tit-in-a-wringer. They saved me, and have continued to (despite the fact that I can invent new problems on a continuous basis). Last spring, I noticed that I couldn't save a file to my mega-muther 2 Terabyte data drive. I restarted, and it was gone - Not there at all... I shut-er-down, and unplugged it. I know how dangerous it is to not have back-ups. I have a 2T external that I periodically plug-in, and back up the drive. My back-up was 2 months old, and I had ZERO access to a months worth of Rhino-3D files for a sculpture I have been working on for months. We are talking hundreds of hours of design tweaks, and probably 30 cases of beer invested in this! I knew I would never get the beer back, but I would settle for the CAD files. The guys at PC Place saved me, and I am eternally grateful. My mother lives in the NE heights, and like most 80 year old women, she has a difficult time with technology. I help her when I can, but I feel totally comfortable sending her to these guys. I trust them with my mother's computer. If that isn't an endorsement, I don't know what to say... I had a PC with a corrupt operating system. I took this computer in to them after the problem with my machine became evident. They were very respectful and friendly, and I received timely communications from them. Within 48 hours, everything was fixed. I went to these guys because they were rated so high. They're rated high for a reason. They correctly diagnosed and fixed my laptop keyboard quickly and at a reasonable rate. This was AFTER Best Buy told me my less-than-two-year-old laptop from them was irreparable and that I should buy a new one. Not only did I save money with these guys, but I didn't put an almost-new laptop into a landfill .... or worse have some poor middle eastern child laborer expose themselves to the toxins in my computer disassembling it for parts. This was my first visit here and I was very impressed by not only exceptional customer service but also their professionalism and knowledgeable of computers. Definitely will recommend this place to my friends. I brought my old Dell 8400 Dimension desktop since it wasn't starting properly. A yellow light would come on with the fan so loud that it felt like a jet was ready for take off lol. I did some research at home and found that it could be the motherboard or the power supply. After arriving at the store on Tuesday, August, 27, 2013, I explained the problem to the Tech who was assisting me. He immediately knew problem, however, he explained to me that since my computer was so outdated that he recommended a refurbished computer for a $100. I was, at first, hesitant but he reassured me that it would be cost effective. I agreed. I asked if he could transfer all of my files to the new computer, and he said he would do his best to transfer them. I received a call from them the next day that it was ready for pick up. I came home and started to set it up, but realized that the refurbished computer required a VGA cable for the monitor. I called them Friday, August 30th, morning and asked what I need to do to get my wide screen (or get the high resolution back) working. I took the computer and the monitor back to the store. He installed a video card, installed the software, and tested it to make sure it worked. Now, my refurbished computer is working well...so far and it looks like all of my files were transferred.
