My computer overheated one day and just completely died. I was devastated and pissed cause it was the first week of my 3rd semester. I brought my laptop to PC Mechanix and they said they could have a look and it would maybe be a few days only. I got a call a few days later and they said the motherboard was fried and needed to be replaced which I fully agreed to although they recommended getting a new laptop since it was an older model and might be cheaper than the repair itself. But I love my laptop so I decided to repair it. A few days later I got a call asking where my laptop was from cause shit I 100% forgot to mention it was bought in Sweden. They realized that's why they obv couldnt find the right part and ordered the correct part FROM Europe without any additional charge. The delivery took awhile but once they had it the repair was done within 24 hrs. In short, the nicest, most affordable and accommodating service I've ever received! The fact that I forgot to tell them a crucial part of the laptops anatomy didn't bother them one bit and they were quick to find MY preferred solution although they recommended otherwise. read more

I've been in to PC Mechanix twice to have my computer fixed, and had a great experience both times. I had viruses on my computer both times, and was nervous going in because I didn't know how bad it was going to be. The first time, my computer was fixed and cleaned on the spot within about a half hour. Being the brilliant person that I am, I didn't install an anti-virus program after this and continued to download things. So, of course, I ended up with the same problem (only worse), a few months down the road. This time, my computer was fixed and cleaned up in a day. They also installed OpenOffice and an anti-virus program. Both times, someone took the time to fully explain what the problem likely was, and what they would do to fix it. This did a lot to calm my nerves. They ran through everything when I picked the computer up as well. I was helped out by 3 people in total, and each one was friendly and informative. After comparing costs to friends' experiences dealing with the same thing at other shops, I realized I'd also paid less (based on what we were told was done). I'm so happy to have found a place (that happens to be relatively close to where I live, as a bonus) where I'm comfortable bringing my computer. The owner also encouraged me not to hesistate to call them or come in with any questions or concerns once I was using my computer again, as they always want every job to be done fully and done right. read more

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I would highly advise my fellow Torononians to NEVER go to this repair shop. I went there today and the owner is such a scam artist. I took my laptop in to see why it was not charging. The employee told me it was either my charger or my input...DUH! There are only 2 options. I'm no computer genius but what else could it have been. Anyway, I asked him if he could please plug in one of his shop chargers to see if it worked. At this point I did not inquire as to whether he would charge me the $50 diagnostic fee to simply plug a cord in, as that question seemed ludicrous.....did I ever learn my lesson. After telling me that their cord worked, I was interested in purchasing a power cord from them and giving them my business. When it was time to pay the bill, they had the audacity to charge me the $50 diagnostic fee. I find it simply beyond reason and unethical that a company would charge someone to plug in a computer. This took 5 minutes and was done right in front of my eyes. As I discussed my concern with the employee and subsequently the owner, I was told that they would not waive the fee because they plugged it in. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I have never received such poor customer service and such greed. I decided to not purchase their product as I had felt really taken advantage of. Following this experience, I went to two other shops on College street and the staff gladly plugged in a few charger cords to make sure they worked...NO CHARGE. I feel really bad for the staff who have to work under that owner who clearly has the wrong priorities and business practices. Its a shame that these people are in business. read more

Had a great experience with this company today. My Dad was having computer issues and I found them through a Google search - didn't know anything about them. They took a long time talking to me and trying different fixes. These guys are pros and know the ins and outs of the latest hardware/software/modem+router configurations. Very highly recommended, I'll be going back for sure. read more

Stay away from these dishonest people!! I have had a couple of bad experiences with this company the most recent of which was when I brought my computer in to have a power jack replaced. I was told that it would be $20 for the part and a whopping $95 for labour which I agreed to pay. They said it would take only a week to repair and 2 and a half weeks later my computer was done. I tried to call a couple of times to find out what was going on and was met with confusion as to why I would be calling each time. The original price for the part had gone up to $50.00 and $95.00 for the labour. I asked to have a receipt of the part they had to order for me to confirm the cost as this is the most expensive I've seen a jack. The owner was very rude about it and said it was an unusual request and they do not provide that even though the worker I had talked to the day before agreed to have it ready when I picked it up. This confirmed to me that they absolutely added to the cost to make even more profit. I would never take my computer here again or recommend it to anyone else... read more

I brought my monitor in for repair. Communication with their customers does not seem to be their strong suit. They said they would evaluate it and call me with an assessment the next day but they didn't call. When I called them, they said the part would be in at the end of the following week. That date came and went and two more weeks went by. During that time, I emailed a couple of times to check the status but got no reply. I finally left a voice message about two and a half weeks after it was supposed to be finished. They called me back to say it was ready. I asked the reason for the long delay and they said it had taken that long to find the part and get it shipped, but didn't explain why they'd originally told me only a week. I have no idea what happened, whether it really was the delay with the part or whether they simply forgot to repair it or forgot to call me to let me know. In any case, I didn't appreciate the long delay and the lack of information (and the lack of any apology). read more
