I took my Macbook Pro for a display exchange here a year ago. Originally, I thought the problem was fixed with a completely new display. I paid $600 for it. A year later, the exchanged display started showing flickering lines. I took it to an Apple-certified repair shop this time. They ran diagnostic testing and found out that my computer is tampered; the orientation of the installment is wrong/not in the way Apple defines; some cowling and screws were missing inside. These facts show a bad service. Beware that even if it looks like it's working after the repair, you don't know what's done inside, which could come up sometime later. read more

Max saved me a fortune! I walked in convinced ( my self mis diagnoses of the issue ) that I needed a major repair, broken power jack. Max could easily have fleeced me and ripped me off. Instead, he and his team took the time to assess the problem and determined I only needed a new power supply! I rarely leave any reviews but had to write about my great experience. I had salt water damage on my iPhone X and two repair shops said nothing could be done about my phone and data recovery was impossible. Ask Computers was able to take apart the logic board which is made up of 2 parts and was able to pair it and recover the data. Even after doing so, it was highly unstable and the phone kept turning off before a full recovery could be done. But after a week of work, they were able to fully recover my data! This place can do things other repair shops cannot. I would highly recommend their service as the only place to go to for phone repairs and data recovery. read more

Call the day of, and "ask" if the tech is in before you go to ASK Computers. I was told the tech was in from 10am the day before, so I went ahead and just showed up at 12pm. When I got there the Indian guy at the desk said the service guy wouldn't be in until 2pm. What kind of executive hours is the iPhone fixer doing?! What's worse, is if you do a Google search for "iPhone repair Toronto" ASK*** freaking ***computers keeps showing up at the top of the search, when all you want is the closest repair place to your location. Apparently, when the tech guy is there an iPhone screen can be replaced for $75.00 with cheaper Chinese glass, but who knows when you'll be able to pick up your phone. read more

Went there last night to have my Macbook Pro's battery replaced and it's spectacular. First, it's cheap. Cheaper than Apple store. Second, they are honest and knowledgeable. They diagnosed my machine first before before doing something. I have another Macbook Pro that I thought needed a RAM upgrade because the app store icons aren't show but they said it was necessary - honest alert. And also, they have tons of other stuff - cellphone accessories, computer paraphernalia and even laptops. Move over Pacific Mall. This should be everyone's go to place in downtown Toronto (or even those from the 'burbs) - the folks are so honest. If I could give Ask Computers 6 stars, I would!! Some context for the issue: I spilled tea onto the keyboard area of my MacBook Air one morning. It was still on (yikes)... I saw the screen flicker until it turned off completely. Panicking, I turned it upside down to try to get more of the liquid out of it and left it for about an hour. I didn't think I spilled too much but I guess I was wrong. Then I took it to the Apple store (3 hours after the initial spill because I had to wait about 1.5 hours for my genius appointment). Though I had Apple Care, it only covers manufacturers' defects and no accidental damage. The Apple genius took one look at my laptop after taking off the back cover, and told me that liquid got on all the major components of the hardware. Almost all of it would need replacing he said. He quoted me $100 more than the cost of a brand new MacBook Air (uh... what?! In what world would someone pay the same price as a brand new computer, just so that they can get it replaced with other computer parts that may or may not be refurbished). I didn't trust Apple... I knew they were not in the business of repairing computers. I was so disappointed because they could have at least tried to help me out (I'll explain below). Sooooo, I stashed my laptop in a ginormous bag of rice for a few days (didn't help though). Apple made me feel like my computer was damaged beyond repair. ------------------------------------------------ Actual review: I emailed Ask Computers about my problem, asking if they could take a quick look at my computer (I sent them a photo) and deem if it was at all repairable. They replied very quickly, and after a couple of emails, told me to come in so they could assess the extent of the liquid damage. They told me to disconnect the battery (and how) in order to increase the chances of my computer being repaired. Apple couldn't even do this for me when they opened up my laptop to assess the damage...???? Gives me the impression that if the Apple guy had found a puddle of liquid in my computer, he'd just close it up without trying dab it dry or something. The following day, I dropped off my laptop for Ask Computers to assess the damage and provide a quote for me. Whilst at the store, they took off the back of the laptop to take a quick look and provided me with an approximate price range. The man who primarily helped me, Max, said he'd call me with the quote. It was way way WAY less than Apple's ridiculous quote (plus, Apple needed 10 business days to rip me off). Max said he'd be able to repair it for the next day. So, I went ahead with the repair service and picked up my laptop the next day. It was pretty much as good as new!!! Hallelujah. The repair service also came with a 60-day warranty. ------------------------------------------------ TLDR; I listened to other Yelpers and they did not lead me astray! You can trust this place to fix your electronics and put the customer first. They also sell other computer/phone accessories. Thank you Max and everyone at Ask Computers! I've owned and broken my apple electronics for nearly 10 years now and I've never ventured out of apple genius bar for my repairs, even when my macbook was out of warranty. On Thursday night I spilled water all over my trackpad, and on Friday afternoon I went to the Genius bar. They said that my entire logic board needed to be replaced, and that it would be $630 (incl tax) and would take 7-10 business days. I had an exam on Monday so that was a huge no, and dropped by ASK Computers. They finished the repair in 2 hours and I paid $280 (incl tax). The only downside to all of this is that I realize I way overpaid for all of my previous repairs with Apple. The store people were very friendly, helpful, and professional, and if I ever break any electronic ever again I would not hesitate at all to come back. read more

Terrible customer service - in fact no customer service. No greeting, no smile, no, how can I help you? And the person I dealt with laughed at me because I didn't understand the intricacies of an IPhone (I'm a senior), then told me the glass cover of my IPad would be ready on Monday (this was on Saturday), and he would call me once it was ready to pick up. I then waited and waited and waited some more, heard nothing so called on the Thursday (November 18/21). The same person I'd dealt with on the Saturday answered and told me he'd call me back in 20 minutes (who does this?) to tell me what the 'problem' was. The problem was apparently that I needed to get the apple id from the friend who gave me the IPad. Why did I have to wait 5 days and 20 minutes to hear that? No manners, no class, a very high quote and laughing in a customer's face because she doesn't understand technology at the same level he does all came together to make sure that I would pick up the device today and take it elsewhere for repairs. They say third time is a charm. It really was in my case. I had a broken screen on iPhone 8+, Apple denied the repair because my side lock button wasn't passing the diagnostic check. On a whim, I went to pacific mall and got the screen replaced for a very low cost. The quality was terrible and I went to another random kiosk in the mall the next day. Still terrible. I was ready to buy an entire new phone. Taking photos is very important to me and the resolution and quality I was given both times was terrible. I recently dropped my 1-month old LG G2 (white) at my friend's home and it cracked the screen. To begin, I can't give them any less than a 5 based on the speed and effort they put into getting my phone back to new! I actually had to replace my screen twice. Based on the quotes I received for the repair, they were the best. As well, they were able to get the phone back to me the fastest. My all-white LG G2 unfortunately could not be all-white anymore since they weren't able to find me a white screen. Having a black front and white back actually turned out to be better than I had thought. When I got my phone back, I was excited. To my disappointment, I found a small defect in the screen (a cloudy white spot) when I turned off my phone. I immediately notified them and they promptly replied back to me. I brought it back to them the next day and they had no issues in getting it replaced again. They gave me an estimate of 1 week and they met their time without much issue! I happened to be passing by Ask Computers on my way to the market. My Samsung Note II has had a massive spiderweb crack on the screen since July of last year! I figured I'd pop in and see if there was anything they could do. There was! My phone is older, so they didn't have the part required to get 1-hour service. Instead they hooked me up with a loaner phone and when my phone was ready (same day), they drove it to my home (mid-town Toronto) to deliver it to my door. Service was wonderful - very polite and informative. I could not be happier with the service. If I ever have phone problems again, I'll be back (but I hope I won't have to). read more

Issue: mild water damage to macbook pro 17" causing backlight to die. water from rain wicked down theal video cable causing a short of the internal video connector, causing burn damage to the cable end of the connector, the motherboard connector and blowing the backlight fuse. In order to spare you all the details I will summarize and if you want more details you can contact me on this site. I was not happy with the quality of work. In my opinion, it was a hack. sure they got my macbook working but the quality of the work did not reflect the $350 price tag. I know a thing or two about electronics repair and that's why I brought them the machine, because the repair was outside of my abilities. But I know enought to know what a good quality repair would look like taking the extent of the damage into consideration. I did complain and ASK worked quickly to resolve the issue with either a partial refund or a re-repair. Since the quality of the repair was low I did not feel comfortable with them doing further work on it so I accepted the refund of $150, making the cost $200. still high for the quality of the work but better. But the repair will require it to be undone if the mac needs any further motherboard work, which is added effort and added risk to damage. I was not given a detailed explanation of the work they intended to do and the impact of that work on the machine. Had they told me what they were going to do I would have taken the machine back and given it to someone else to do a proper repair job that doesn't involve hacking into the expensive internal cable and running jumpers. In anycase, I appreciate the quick replies and the offers to make the situation right. but the work has been done and I am now saddled with a hardware hack in my mac which is not what I wanted to accomplish here. So bring your machines to ASK for repair but ask them for a detailed estimate and to explain any future impacts of their repair to your machine and future repairs. and call around for prices because for me, their price of $350 was no where near what the value of their work was. It appears though that if you have any problems with them or thier work they will work hard to make it right and satisfy you - that is commendable. read more

TLDR: Brought in laptop for easy service job, they screwed up something else small while they had it open. They handled it pretty well when I brought it back in, though I had to press them to have it repaired right away and get a small discount for the mistake. --- I have to give these guys a measured review. I hesitate to recommend them whole-heartedly, but I'll probably be back. I'll share my experience and you can judge for yourself. I went there to have the DC jack on my ASUS k53s (notebook) replaced. It is a common problem with this model, it had been replaced once already by the manufacturer, but the laptop was now past warranty. The job is fairly simple involving just the de-soldering of the old jack and soldering a new one in. I explained all this over email and they were exceptionally speedy in replying and answering my follow-up questions. They said they could do it in one or two days for $125-$150. That is a reasonable price. I dropped it off and was happy with my initial interactions with them. Two days later they called, emailed, and texted me to let me know the computer was ready (that in my mind is excellent customer service). I went in just before they were closing to pick it up. I dealt with different person than I had dropped it off with. He was helpful enough though a bit dismissive and aloof. They showed me in the store that the laptop was charging properly again, and I happily took my laptop home. As soon as I got it home and tested it out I noticed that the left touchpad/mouse button was not working. Everything else about the touchpad worked fine, it just wasn't registering left-clicks. They had clearly messed something up when they were working on it. I hoped that it was simply a driver problem or setting change, and spent hours trying to solve it myself. Nothing worked so I knew it must be internal and would have to bring it back. I brought it back in the next day, and explained what had happened. First he asked how urgently I needed the computer back saying that he wouldn't be able to get it back until Tuesday (I was there on a Saturday). I told him that I wanted him to fix it right now. He hesitated, and we were interrupted by a phone call that he answered. While on the phone he began tinkering. After he hung up he asked if I had 10 mins while he checked to see if it was a simple fix or not. I said of course. After a short while he explained that a wire connecting the left button had been bent during the opening and closing. We tested to make sure it was working fully, and then as he was putting it all back together I said that I expected some kind of discount for the inconvenience of coming all the way back down for something that they had done to my computer. He asked what I expected and I said $25 would be fair. He countered with $20 which I accepted. Through all of this we both remained cordial and matter-of-fact. He was never apologetic but neither was he defensive. I have to say that I respect the way he handled it. Though I had to press him to do the right thing. So I'm still not sure if I'll return, since I don't know how confident I can be in the quality of the work, but I think the knocking loose of a wire is a simple mistake anyone could make and is probably excusable. Went to see Mani and his brother about repairing my Thinkpad laptop last week. I had the 'blue screen of death' pop up several times crashing the computer several times in the last few weeks. Ask Computers determined the issue was the hard drive needed to be replaced. They quoted what I felt was a reasonable price for a new drive and labour to transfer all my old data. The only real downside was they said they could not transfer any of my programs... I would have to reload all of them again. But they could transfer the rest of my data and passwords. I brought my laptop in and it took 2 days to get it back, they rushed it knowing I needed it for work ASAP. Brought the laptop home and all seemed ok... except I noticed they forgot to transfer my fonts and Chrome bookmarks that I use for work. Have to bring it back to them to finish the data transfer. For the time being, I'd say the customer service and experience is alright so far. Will follow up on this review after they finish the job... read more

My screen on my LG G3 was cracked and the touch wouldn't work. I was seriously bummed but I took it to them based on their good reviews. My phone was fixed in a couple days and now works perfectly well again. You can't tell it was ever broken. Ask Computer is, without reservation, the place to go!!! I had the battery on my laptop replaced here 3 weeks ago. I contacted via email in the morning inquiring about pricing and how long it would take to have the battery replaced, bearing in mind the time it would take to order the battery for my MacBook Pro with Retina display, and then to replace it. I received a response 15 minutes later and was informed that it would cost 169$ and could be fixed the same day and picked up by 3:00pm. I couldn't believe how reasonable the price was and the fact that everything could be done that same day! The service was fast, exceptional, and friendly. My laptop is back to prime working condition. Note: I had brought my MacBook into Jump on Spadina and College the previous day and was quoted almost 800$, and was told it would take 5-7 business days. According to Jump, given the model of my laptop, the battery alone could not be replaced. They had advised that the entire internal piece (keyboard, battery, ports etc) would need to be replaced. So I was, according to Jump, better off purchasing a brand new laptop even though mine was less than 4 years old. I left in tears, to say the least. Ask Computers, on the contrary, was able to replace only the battery. I am so happy I chose to have my laptop serviced at Ask Computers. I will 100% return here for all future computer related needs. An absolute pleasure to buy from. I needed a screen and rear view camera replacement for my iPhone 6s+, and not only did this store have the most reasonable prices out of several popular repair stores on Yelp, but also the best communication. They were very honest, and made sure to ask about the condition of my phone before giving me a quote ($169 for my screen and $50 for my camera if I had them repaired together). On the other hand, I was told quotes such as $199 and $70. It's not the cheapest place to go, but I like to think that it because the price reflects the quality of the parts - and with a phone that I'd already spent so much on, I'd much rather have that reassurance. Everything seems to be going well, and i would strongly recommend everyone to give them a chance. Thanks so much, I will update if there are any changes EDIT: just a note, top left corner of my phone screen is slightly popped out ( I assume this is due to the frame of my phone having been compromised due to a bump from a previous fall ).
