I accidentally spilled some tea on my 2014 Macbook Air two days before I visited ASK. After Apple quoted me ~$900 for repair since liquid damage isn't covered by AppleCare (there was some corrosion on my logic board, and I needed my keyboard top replaced as well it seemed), I decided to shop around, especially since the Apple Store rep mentioned my AppleCare wouldn't be completely void if I went to a third party. I called in to request a quote, and was told my laptop would be inspected for free (taken apart with each part looked at to make sure there's not additional damage, which I was worried about), and afterwards I could decide to get it repaired if I wish. Figuring there's nothing to lose, I brought my laptop in. Max was super efficient. I dropped off my laptop early in the afternoon, and called in a few hours before they closed to see how bad the damage was. Max gave me the quote and I gave him the go ahead for repair. He even took extra consideration that I was a student on a tight budget, and promised that he'd try to fix what's possible (vs. replacing it) to keep costs down. Before the end of their closing day, I got a call and my laptop was already fixed. I picked it up the next day, and they also slapped a 90-day warrantee on the repair. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the service and really relieved. Liquid damage isn't a light matter, especially at an inopportune time like exam season, but ASK salvaged my computer efficiently. read more

Imagine that - Apple says they can help with my non-chargeable iPhone but I have to wait 4 days for the appointment. Wow - thanks Mr. Apple. And add to that the thread to not give me any warranty if I go elsewhere. So I took it to Ask Computers to see what they would say. 'Sure we can fix it - leave your phone here and come back in an hour'. Now Imagine That!!! Their diagnostic methods were fast, well explained, and time was taken to provide me with proof that the problem was the charging port. Even better were their quick and efficient treatment process. I didn't go anywhere while they fixed it. What I witnessed was customer after customer bringing in their broken down, wet, cracked cells in for repair. I also saw a lot of Apple computers come in for pick up and repair. What a great addition to our neighborhood at Jarvis and Front street - a computer (PC or Apple) and cellphone repair center that is friendly and family operated. They carry lots of computer and cell phone accessories as well. So no need to Ask about where to go for Computers anymore - go to 'Ask Computers' and stop that Apple store repair service madness. Ask Computers has been brilliant!! I accidentally spilled some tea on my MacBook Pro (2012/13 edition) and was told by an authorized Apple technician that there was damage to the logic board and that repairing the device wouldn't be worth it. They said I would be billed over 1k and it's best to invest in a new one. Fortunately, I Googled something along the lines of 'logic board repair' and Ask Computers came up as one of the hits, with amazing reviews. I called them to see if they could help and told them there was a minor spill, and was assured there was over a 90% chance that it could be fixed. And it was!! The technician - Maz (apologies if I've spelt the name incorrectly) - was honest, reliable and very knowledgeable. He told me there was just an issue with the keyboard and that everything else was fine. This was in complete contrast to what the Apple technician had told me earlier. I got my laptop fixed and was charged just under $200 for the keyboard replacement. I'm very, very grateful for their help and have nothing but positive feedback. I brought my iPhone and an old MacBook here last fall as it kept shutting down randomly. It was a known issue with that model that was now out of warranty. The iPhone I had the battery and home button replaced for a very reasonable price and done in 10 minutes while they were taking down the details for the MacBook. The owner even threw in a new screen protector for me. For my MacBook I got it back within a week after a logic board replacement but unfortunately the issue reappeared. I brought it back and the owners ended up doing a complete overhaul and many tests over a couple of weeks. I wasn't in a rush for it. It has been running perfectly since. The prices were reasonable (considering the amount of work) and I'm super happy. The owner didn't try to sell me on anything extra, presented available options, very straightforward. Would definitely be back here for future service needs but I have a feeling I won't need to be since they did such a great job the first time around. I don't know why but I have always been nervous about bring my devices in for repair outside of the Genius Bar, but I think Ask computers will be my first go to outside of warranty now. read more

Amazing HONEST service! When my MacBook Pro had water damage I took it to a Apple Authorized repair dealer. I received a quote for over 2,000 dollars and was told it was better to replace it. I started picking up extra shifts hoping to be able to scrounge up enough money within a few months. When my iPhone screen cracked I called around and not only was Ask Computers the lowest prices they were the quickest repair time. Something told me to bring the Mac Book just to see. Well am I ever glad I did! My screen was replaced within 30 mins and they quoted me 300 plus tax and I could pick it up the next day. To be honest had I come earlier and not so close to closing they probably would have had it done same day. The next day I picked it up and I have been glued to it ever since. I am beyond grateful for the honesty and elated with the impeccable service. I am a customer for life. These guys are fabulous! Don't go anywhere else, you won't get better service anywhere else. Inexpensive and top notch quality can't be beat! How something goes from 2k plus to 300.00 is beyond me. Shame on you Jump+ and thank you Ask you guys just made my life 1000% better. read more

Service: repair of liquid damage on a macbook pro (coffee spill) Cost 169$ (incl.taxes) I was very impressed with Ask Computers staff and service in general. They were courteous, helpful, and they were fast! They tell you that it will cost 60$ for them to make a diagnosis but that cost is included in the total price when they are done. So really the diagnosis is free as long as they are the ones doing the repair. I brought my macbook pro to them on tuesday at noon, they called me at 4pm to let me know what the problem was, let me know the cost of the repairs, ,and they had it ready for me at 2pm the next day. Their original estimate was $200 +tax, but they said they did not have as much to do in the end and my total in the end was 150$ + tax. I know my way around computer hardware and they did a great job. I especially liked that they did their best to reduce the cost for me, and they answered my questions in a clear non-technical manner. Overall, I strongly recommend them, for the quality, cost and speed of the service. read more

I was using a USB stick that I had purchased at Dollarama for $10 for months to save all my adobe illustrator assignments on it for school, all of the sudden my MacBook Pro stopped reading the USB stick and all my assignments were due the following Monday, I tried it on 4 different computers and it kept giving me an error, I started panicking, so I called apple technicians to see if there was any way to retrieve the data on my USB, and they said it's not your laptop, it's the USB itself so there wasn't much they could do for me, I found Ask Computer online and went to see them right away, first they said it would take a few days, but after I mentioned how important the data on it was they said okay go and come back in half an hour, I went back half an hour later and not only they were Able to retrieve everything on the USB they transferred the data on to a new USB with a much better quality for only $10. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely go back with any computer, phone issues. read more

I spilt water on my Macbook air keyboard, and it stoped working. I had hope after submerging it in rice overnight, but it wouldn't turn on. I took it to apple for a quote and they said it would cost me over $1,000 to replace te logic board and keyboard. They said I was better off buying a new one. I was lost for hope. Only having a parttime job, I was thinking of ways to earn more money fast, so that I could buy a new laptop by Christmas time. I came across ASK computers after a google search. After reading all of the reviews, I decided to take my laptop in for a quote. They were extremely nice in store, very straightforward in telling and showing me exactly what was wrong with my laptop. They gave me a roundabout quote of $350 which included replacing the keyboard, MUCH cheaper than th $1000+ apple quoted me for. A week after I'd taken it for repair, they called me and told me it was ready to pick up. Now my Mac is working perfectly fine. I'd highly recommend this place. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. I have always been one to meticulously backup everything and I have a lot of crucial material since I am a Music Producer in NYC for various artists in the USA. The one time when I had to shift things around and didn't have a backup of my production sessions, Murphy's Law happened and I lost everything due to a damaged drive. Not only was the drive damaged but there was additional damaged done to it afterward. Ask Computers did the impossible and recovered not some of my material.....they were able to miraculously recovery the whole drive. This is completely unheard of since I've heard many horror stories of people in the music and photography industry losing files for good. I STRONGLY recommend that you travel from wherever you live in the city of Toronto or the GTA to have Ask Computers handle your needs. The staff is exceptionally helpful and pleasant. read more

Nice little find, as I seem to need a store like this every few months and had no idea that there was one walking distance from my house. This place feels a little out of place in the St. Laurence Market area - it's the sort of computer store that normally you need to head up to College St., between Spadina and Bathurst to find. Good selection of the basics that you need (spare cables and chargers, blank media, computer and cel phone accessories, a few laptops, monitors and computer periferals etc), they do repairs etc and they will unlock phones. Owner is a really nice guy, chatty if you get into a conversation and seems fairly knowledgeable (although our conversation didn't really get that technical). He said they do in home pick up and drop off for people in the area, but I didn't really get into any details there. read more

I shattered my iPhone 6s+ screen. I took it to Ask on a holiday, and even though they were just popping into the store to catch up on some work, they agreed to replace it for me within 45 minutes. Fantastic! Wasn't expecting to get it done that fast! Long story short-- the replacement screens seemed to have defects on them (light leaks etc) and Ask put up with me through three visits and four (4!) replacement screens, not only completely free of charge but with a partial refund, until it was suspected that my case was slightly warped and causing stress on the screens. Even so they gave me one last, carefully applied screen, and it's perfect now! Truly their customer service is beyond reproach. The service from these guys is exceptional. I took my computer in at noon, hoping that they could look at it that day -- I used it for work; it's my precious -- anyway, they called back when they said they would told me it was fixed and working fine. Nice! But the really exceptional part is this: I took my husband with me to pick up the computer. He's on a walker as he recuperates from a little heart problem. On our way out of the store, the owner asked if we were going to take a cab home and I told him that we were. But he demurred and insisted on giving us a ride home. I was just so surprised. They simply didn't have to do that. And he told me that I should call in future and they would send someone to our home to service our computers. I don't usually write online reviews but Torontonians need to know about Ask Computers on Front St. Ask Computers is the place I go when I need my phone or laptop repaired or parts replaced. I don't google for suggestions, I don't ask anyone for suggestions. I call Ask and explain my situation and then take my device in. Max and his team make no promises but they produce results nonetheless. In the past 10 months I have made three visits: one for my laptop hard drive and two separate trips for iPhone battery replacements, each with great results. They understand customer service, especially as it comes to electronics and document recovery. I had a great experience with ASK. I spilled coffee on my laptop and my keyboard was completely dysfunctional. They assessed the damage and initially thought they would have to order a new keyboard from China since nothing locally was available. Shortly after hearing that I would need a keyboard shipped across seas I was told they saw something under a microscope and would get back to me in a few hours if they would be able to fix it themselves. And they did! They fixed the keyboard and no new part was needed, which saved me 1/2 the cost that a new keyboard would be and I got my laptop back sooner! Overall very happy with the service and them finding a cheaper and faster solution. 5 stars! read more

They are great people and extremely reasonable. They tried to help me as much as they could with my water-damaged laptop. They called me along the way to update me on the repair status and was great in communications. My laptop now works fine (only battery function no longer works). To help me fix the battery issue, they found the cheapest battery replacement they could to save money. However, unfortunately the issue wasn't just with the battery but also something else. At the end they charged me a really fair price because the battery issue couldn't be fixed. I am extremely happy with the level of communication and service. read more

The LCD screen of my Samsung Galaxy S3 was completely dead. I was searching for electronic repair shops in Toronto and Ask Computers got the best reviews. I e-mailed their company for an estimate of how much it would cost to repair my phone and one of the employees was quick to reply (it was during nighttime too). I went to their store the following week to get my phone fixed and I got it back the next day. My phone looked completely brand new because they replaced it with a new top glass, LCD screen, digitzer, and frame. On top of all that, the price was reasonable. I live in the area and saw Ask Computers before. When my blackberry broke pretty badly, I didn't think there was hope and was going to buy a new phone then I thought to go into the repair shop and see if anything could be done. They were so nice and stayed open late for me. Because the damage was so bad it took longer and they gave me a loner phone to use in the mean time (which was VERY nice). They fixed my phone and had good customer service. Knowledgeable, fast and well priced. I will always remember to go there with any repairs I need in the future and recommend it to others. read more

Just had another repair done by these guys. Power switch and charging port needed replacement on my Nexus 5. Initially quoted $150, immediately offered a discount to do it for $100. Power switch replacement didn't fix the issue, so more time was required to eventually diagnose and repair a power regulator issue, no additional charges. Took 2 hours longer than anticipated, offered another 25% discount. OK, so maybe initially quoting double the actually price is a good strategy to manage expectations, but it worked on me. This place is a lifesaver!!! I cracked my MacBook screen and was desperately looking for someone to fix it but every other place said it would take 1 week to fix it. I'm a university student and I needed my laptop the next day for class. I went in and they fixed it in 1 HOUR!!!!! The gentleman was so amazing and he did an amazing job with my computer.
