We had a water heater started leaking on a Friday night. I looked on Yelp to get an idea of who to call. I asked for some quotes from 5 different places and was prepared to go without hot water for the weekend. Several places contacted me with quotes and when they could do the work. Two could come out the next day. Payless was able to get here first and their quote, while higher, offered things I hadn't considered such as leak detection and automatic shutoff valve. Good warranty for hardware and work also added some cost. All gas lines and valves replaced. Max the tech was professional and explained everything thing clearly. My water heater lost hot water and I had a Payless guy came over. He inspected the unit and said it's beyond repair and needed to be replaced for more than $5000! I had another contractor come and look at the same thing. It costed me just $270 to replace a part and fix it. Payless Water is either incompetent or totally dishonest. 9/3/2016 Payless installed American Standard 40 Gal water heater for $1254, 1/5/2022 (less than 6 years), it leaks in the bottom and needs replacement. I called Payless, they don't deal with warranty replacement, I need to call American Standard for warranty claim. The best they can do is offer a $150 warranty credit, this is useless, a new one cost 2k. Being winter time, my family needs hot water, I don't have time to wait for warranty replacement. I end up calling another company for a new one for a lower price. Don't use Payless if you expect them to honor warranty on parts. Also shop around, there are lower cost from other company. read more

Our tankless water heater went out and after having two other vendors come look at it (one electrician and plumber) we got lucky when we called Payless. Joseph was our technician in this family owned business and on his visit get it working and gave us great advice to keep using it as long as it lasts. I greatly appreciated that he didn't push immediate replacement. He mentioned that they keep many tankless water heaters in stock and will give us a credit for our initial visit. The next day our tankless heater died for good and, even with a late afternoon call, made it right over and had a new one installed that evening. I don't know you all give these guys 5 stars! I'm a property manager for am apt complex, they installed brand new water heaters in all 4 bldg, 1st one was fine until 6 months later they come out and said it's not the water it's one of the pumps that they didn't install so we had to pay for that ! 1 year later the motherboard went out this time they try to say it was electrical issue, not it's not it has its own closure nothing else there! We were still under warrant but for some reason warranty didn't cover it! 2nd & 3rd water heater installed, everything was fine about a year later issues again, they tried saying electrical issues again, not it's not had the electrician out to check, he said everything is fine, they changed the motherboard, the day they came warranty expired that day, they said we had to pay for the motherboard warranty expired! Today 9/11/24 once again water heater not working the tech came out did diagnostic, before he said anything, cause I can hear him talking with his boss about electrical, before he said anything, I told him you're not going to tell me about electrical issue again this is BS because we were still under warrant this water heater is only 1.5 years new, we were still under warrant, fees waived for parts & labor, but I already knew they were going to use that electrical issue again! After going back and forth with him I told him talk to my boss, my boss is a retired construction, fire Marshall & everything that has to do with building houses apartments, my boss told explain it the tech mumbled what he told us, my boss laid it into him! It's a bunch of BS with electrical issue they are using ! Especially if your under warranty, they will make sure you pay some other way & say it's your fault not there's! read more

Our water heater went out over the weekend, after looking at reviews on Yelp and Angi's list we contacted Payless Water Heaters. It was after hours and I stated it was a non emergency, so I was not expecting an imediate response. They got back to us first thing in the morning and scheduled an appt for later that day to have Joey O. to come out and provide us with a quote for the needed work. Based on the age of our unit I figured it would be a full replacement and we were hoping to go tankless. Joey arrived right on time and quickly came to the same conclusion I had. He spent the time to look over our existing setup and was confident that we could go tankless. The package I purchased came with a 9 year manufacture warranty. I registered my water heater with Bradford white, after over a 1 year, it still says 6 year. I called multiple times and was assured that they just needed to file the paper work... never happened. It is almost as they know you will eventually stop calling them. On the plus side. Joey installed my heater. He was professional, nice and did a good job. later I had an issue and they did come out and fix it promptly. My neighbor had his replaced. It should cost you $1600 total. Their cost was no where near that. The amount I paid was definitely not worth what I received. First time replacing a water heater, lesson learned. 2 star rating is because of high price and for them never registering my the extended warranty with the manufacture. read more
