Paws R Us is an exceptional grooming shop! They genuinely care for the pets they groom and are gentle, kind, and patient. My mini schnauzers come out looking like show dogs! Helena suggested grooming my long-haired rescue cat Tweety in a "lion cut" for easier maintenance, and I love it! I called a week prior to make an appointment for my cat (was never asked for proof of vaccination). I called the day of the appointment to confirm my time (was never asked to bring/provide proof of vaccination). Upon arrival I was asked for verification of rabies vaccination which I did not have physically on me and I had to leave. They lost a time slot for another animal they could have groomed and now a customer; had they informed me on the phone (twice) that documentation would be required upon arrival this wouldn't have been an issue. read more

I have been bringing my Shih Tzu to Helen and her team for several years and am extremely pleased. My fur baby loves to spend the day "at the spa" when she used to go every 6-8 weeks. Unfortunately, I moved out of state recently and had to find a new groomer. Nobody comes CLOSE! I still have family in NJ and visit from time to time and I actually try to schedule my trips when Cookie is due for a grooming so I can take her to Paws-R-Us! I've been searching for a good groomer for a while now. Paws R Us was recommended to me from a neighbor friend. This was the best choice I have ever made in trying. Helen is amazing and super gentle with my little girl Peanut. She even does teeth cleaning which I had to try given my little girls horrible teeth/breath. Wow! Her teeth are so clean and she no longer has bad breath. When I picked her up she was super happy and not unforgettable at all. If you're looking for a reliable groomer, Helen is the person to see! My dog was gorgeous, albeit a bit scraggly when I brought him in. He is a long haired Chihuahua. A purebred dog, in spit of the fact that he LOOKS part Pom. He is NOT! I told Helen on the phone to cut him short, this much is true. But I NEVER told her to SHAVE HIM!!! What person in her right mind would shave this kind of dog unless he was matted???? Which he was not. When I picked him up, Helen was nowhere to be found and when I asked the girl that was there why Helen decided to shave my dog, she had no idea and couldn't answer me. I paid her anyway and left as I was in a hurry to be somewhere. I texted Helen when I got home and when she called me back she told me I told her to cut him short and make him look like a Chihuahua and she told me he is a Pom mix. Which again, he most certainly is NOT! Short is one thing, but what she did to my dog and then charged me $60+ to do so is outrageous! As soon as I figure out how to post pics on here I will do so. In the meantime, I will go on facebook and write another one of these with pics. Not to mention Google and Yahoo. This is shocking to me because she has so may great reviews. I cannot understand why. Paws R Us was recommended to me by Nadine Tare, a lovely NJ woman who breeds and shows miniature schnauzers. I can't thank her enough for doing so! The haircut my latest little man received there was the best haircut ANY of my schnauzers has gotten over the past 40+ years! I was also impressed by the cleanliness of the shop and the friendliness of the staff, especially Helen. I appreciated that she shared with me the fact that other groomers over the past year had not properly removed the hair from my dog's ears, causing severe matting and debris. My dog was perky and happy when I picked him up and didn't try to rush out the door in terror after his grooming. It was wonderful that they could finish him in 2 hours as opposed to other shops that keep your dog all day (which I consider cruel). Even though it is a 30 minute drive for me to get to Keyport, I will most definitely return as the service is excellent. Fun little town to hang out in,too! Best diner in NJ across the street!
