We have adopted 2 dogs from Husky House. They are an absolutely fantastic operation. They make sure that people adopting dogs from them always have the best interest of the new family member at heart. One of the little girls that we adopted was rescued from a breeder where she was bred over and over again. The Husky House had a rescue operation where she was one of the dogs rescued. The process to adopt her took awhile, but it finally ended with us being approved. Our veterinarian confirmed that the Husky House did call him for a reference. Heidi was by far the sweetest, gentlest soul that we have encountered. We were so happy that HH placed her with us. The second dog we adopted was a 12 week old puppy. Again HH did a fantastic job of matching the puppies personality to both Heidi and us. As many of you know huskies can be quite rambunctious. That really is not the case with Zakoya. When we first got her she would follow you around, well, like a puppy dog. Lol, she is a gentle, loving soul. Husky House does make sure that adopters are going to take care of their new family members. They, also, go the extra mile to make sure that the family and the dog's personality is a match. I was also impressed by the lengths that they will go to make sure that every dog that needs help gets it. Cost does not seem to be much of an object if they find a Husky or other canine who needs their assistance. They will have all kinds of fund raising activities to make sure the dogs get what they need. This organization does not just adopt dogs, they make sure that dogs that really need help, get the help they need. This is a great organization with a fantastic, caring Director and volunteers who really care. They are a licensed non profit, 501 (C) organization. The bottom line is I love the Husky breed, and would not hesitate to adopt from Husky House again. This is a class organization with people who care working there. They will not adopt to just any human, and that is the way it should be. They get 4 Siberian Husky paws up. read more

I won't start bashing an organization that wants to help dogs, whether i think they do a good job or not. I will just share my experience which is that I filled out their application, i went through their rigorous process, they called my references, they did the home visit, i answered all their questions-i even told them i'd stop fostering kittens for my local shelter. They dont get back to you, they made me feel like I wasn't a worthwhile home because i have farm animals, when we have over 4 acres of land. I owned a husky his entire life until he passed so i know the breed well but it wasn't good enough. then they stopped responding to me and i never heard back despite my attempts to call and text. I don't have as much to say as I would like to. My experience was also a couple of years ago. However, it was one I would never forget. I remember they had two husky puppies in need of a forever home, adoptable as a pair. I grew up with owning German Shepherd, Black Lab, Samoyed, and a few other dogs. I have a high fence and plenty of space indoor and outdoor for them. I am aware of Huskys personalities. Husky House required money with the application. They never contacted me back after completing the long and thorough application. You don't get anything you pay for. They took my money and stole it. I wonder if they even treat the fosters or dogs with respect? They don't seem to be an ethical entity. I would stay away from them. So I placed an application to rescue a frenchie. I've had frenchies before that lived until they were 13yr. In my opinion allergies are not 'special needs' . The person who showed up to my house to do the home inspection was very nice. We have 2 medium sized dogs we rescued from another organization. Our application was ultimately rejected. I asked why and have still yet to get an answer. They even checked with my current vet for records of giving my dogs preventatives. Just because I don't buy them there doesn't mean I don't give them the necessary treatments needed. The adoption fee was $700 which included spaying. I was fine with that. However when I questioned who the vet was doing the spaying I was given a wishywashy answer. I am very particular about who is caring for my dogs. The application was $15 fee which is non refundable. Last week, I identified another dog ( Benny) we were interested in and I immediately contacted them to meet him. Just a few short days later, we met the dog this past Saturday. Upon meeting him, we immediately expressed we wanted to adopt him but since we had prior plans that night -- I asked if we could come back Sunday for him. I just didn't think it be a good idea to take him that day to only be home alone for hours his first night. I thought this was a responsible thing to do. As we left there, this woman, Gloria, said she would have to see who could be there tomorrow for us to return and let me know. Right after the visit I also emailed the woman I've been communicating with, Stephanie. I shared my commitment to adopting him and that was looking forward to coming tomorrow to get him. She said: "I would have to see who's available. This is my show weekend at school so I am pretty much booked and I can't ask Gloria to drive all the way from Queens again tomorrow. I'll get back to you." We quickly were making preparations for his arrival and headed right to the store where my kids picked out a bed, leash, treats, toys etc. and they were so excited! About 4 hours later while going to this event, I get an email from Stephanie that read; "I have bad news. We had another approved adopter who came in after you and adopted Benny".... So many thoughts crossed my mind-- couldn't they have told the other family if it doesn't work out tomorrow we will call you? Why didn't someone call me immediately to speak to me about this?Why was the 400 adoption fee (cash only) not requested? Their expectation of the adopters is to be responsible-it would be great if they could reciprocate please. ***The strangest thing though is the post about Benny from march 23rd has been completely wiped from their Facebook like he didn't exist and there has been no post on the adopting family for him either-- like they do for all other adopted pets. ?????**** I completely understand the urgency in wanting to adopt these pets promptly, but this entire last situation appears to be highly suspicious. Furthermore, their shelter appeared in a state of disarray and not kept up which raises serious concerns about the well-being of the animals under their care. The outside looks like a junk yard with stuff all over the property. The trees are overgrown you almost miss the building. And the inside in just as unkept. I would love to help clean it up! Unfortunately, despite the laudable mission to save dogs, this shelter' policies are deceptive. They do not include in either the Intent to Adopt form or Adoption Agreement that they require mandatory tattooing for all animals during spaying and neutering. Adopters are told AFTER they sign the contract that their pet will be permanently marked with a green line. They say it will be "tiny" but the tattoo is made very visible across the dog's abdomen. They communicate this information in the last line of the surgery scheduling email that arrives weeks after adoption, just a few days before the procedure. They also require microchipping, and they register the dog in their own name, even though you are the owner. Be aware of these policies before you travel for the meet and greet where you are on the spot to adopt the dog and sign the contract. This shelter does not allow you to use your own vet for spay/neuter or decide if your dog needs permanent marking. read more

My family and I filled out an application to adopt a dog from this shelter. We went to the place to check out the condition they keep the dogs and the girl who answered was rude and said we needed an appointment. Which I get the appointment part so I waited, with no response. As a family we felt everyone wants to puppy and we wanted to give some of the elders a chance and fell in love with a dog from this shelter that we could have provided an amazing home to. This place rejected our application without and reasoning of why. I called and emailed and no response. Now reading the rest of reviews I am sad that a place like this stays open when there are loving homes trying to add to their family and they don't even answer back but can post on Facebook they are "over crowed". Shame on them for keeping these pups from a finding a good home. They also did not call any of our references before denying us. My daughter had her heart set on saving an older pup from this one and extremely heart broken. I feel bad for the dogs at this shelter. Thankfully there are kinder people and shelters willing to put in the work to find these dogs good homes and that actually put in the work to get to know the people who adopt. Another local shelter close by reached to follow up and actually talk to us about what we were looking for faster and with more heart, super friendly and also called our references. A little over a year ago we adopted our first puppy from Husky House and had an amazing experience. We submitted an application on a Friday morning. This rescue requires a home visit before adopting to ensure the dog will be placed in a safe environment. By Friday night, we had someone contact us and had the home visit scheduled for Saturday morning. Lastly, we had the meet and greet scheduled for the puppy we wanted Saturday afternoon and were able to adopt and bring him home that day! The entire process was very quick and very smooth! The adoption fees are very reasonable, and include the spay/neuter appointment, which you do not always get. A year later we saw another puppy we wanted and were able to get him without any issues, since we previously adopted from them! This is a great rescue that takes care of all of their dogs no matter what age or breed they are. The volunteers that we worked with were so kind and to this day help us if needed. I am beyond devastated. We adopted Lily at the height of the pandemic. I was in constant contact with the handler, Gloria, reaching out to find out when I could bring Lily for her spayed and shots. They said I had to agree to use their vet, which I did, and I waited until they got back to me with a date in July. I dropped Lily off to Husky House for them to transport her to go to their Vet before 7am on July 9th. After that, I never saw Lily again. I received a phone call from Gloria at 5:15pm that the owner felt that I was unfit to care for the dog and I will not be getting her back. I cried to Gloria and she said to contact the owner. I called the owner, she did not pick up the phone. My husband called, no answer. We left messages. I reached out to people I know to help, the owner Lorraine will not budge. I called the police, they said it's a civil suit, but my Lily will probably be hidden in the system, given a different name and they will resell her. this is my sweet Misty girl who we adopted from Husky House in March 2019. Misty was our first dog together in our own house. Misty's former name was Cabbage & her siblings were all named after different types of lettuce making them the lettuce litter! After applying to adopt a dog, we received an email stating they needed to do a home visit to make sure we had a yard and everything needed for a pup. We scheduled that for the next day! One of their volunteers, Brandon, came to do our home visit. During the home visit he informed me of all things to know about getting a puppy. Keeping wires up out of their reach to avoid chewing, keeping human food out of reach on tables/counters, making sure the yard was secure, and most important he told me what shots/preventive care our future pup would need in the weeks after adopting. Husky House never ONCE blindsided us. When we went to their rescue to meet some pups, Gloria, also informed me again of the IMPORTANCE of everything needed in the weeks after adopting. She even gave me a post it with the shots misty would need so I knew what they were. The contract they reviewed with me told me all the things we needed to know, they answered ALL the questions I had. Before I left with Misty, they gave me a collar, a bag of food & all the papers in a folder. I am so glad we went with HH with adopting our first dog because they are just SOOO caring and truly TRULY help dogs in need. They fly dogs in from other states/countries, they drive HOURS away to other states to save dogs, they pay THOUSANDS of dollars for the rescue dogs surgeries to save them. And even now there is a group on FB where all HH adopters post pics of their dogs & interact with other adopters. I was rejected by Husky House after applying for a dog. I have had - and loved - several German Shepards (and a Keeshond and Belgian Malinois) and am familiar with the large active breeds. I am willing to do whatever is required, including installing a perimeter fence  (which I am having done now) and going to training and socialization at St Huberts. I do NOT give up on my dogs and would never even THINK of abandoning one. I was willing to take a dog that was turned in by her owners for "difficulties" but nonetheless I was rejected without ever having had a conversation with anyone from Husky House. They gave no reason, but as I am almost 60, after looking at the reviews on https://greatnonprofits.org/reviews/husky-house-inc-1/role:0 I can guess why. You know we older people are more stable than most, and some of us are quite active. I live in a wooded area and have a superb summer home on a large waterfront area where she would've been able to swim and play with other dogs to her heart's content. I guess that wasn't good enough for their "Board of Directors".  And by the way, that "Board of Directors" is made up of  exactly TWO not-remotely-independent people (one of which is the owner Lorraine Healy) according to their 2019 form 990:  projects.propublica.org/... I just hope Hannah found a good, loving home.  And by the way, while I understand the mission and desire to place an animal with a good and loving home - and actually support that -  I think the way Husky House approaches it is disgraceful.  This is not just sour grapes.  They have a failing grade from Charity Navigator:  charitynavigator.org/ein...  And then there's this:  state.nj.us/health/vph/d... I've never adopted or been through the process of adoption, but have had 8 Siberian Husky's (beginning in1994). I signed up to adopt a puppy from a litter born at Husky House. After filling out some forms online, I was assigned an adoption liaison. Since I was a first time adoptee, I had a plethora of questions. My liaison was quick to respond to my questions. A home visit was arranged soon after. The visitation specialist arrived on time, gave my property a look-see, and asked some questions. Of course, I had many questions for her, as well. She was wonderful! Soon thereafter, I was approved. YES! My adoption liaison kept me informed about how my puppy was doing, any health issue's (there weren't any), his interaction with his siblings and other staff members as well. I was provided with picture's AND video's of my puppy throughout the waiting period. During one of my MANY emails, my adoption liaison told me that ALL of the puppies (9) AND Mama had been adopted EXCEPT for one little boy (who happened to be mostly black, just like my puppy). I told my husband, who immediately said "we can't leave him there alone". I quickly emailed my liaison, and arranged to adopt another puppy. Due to circumstances outside of my control, I was unable to pick the puppies up on the day when the rest of the litter went home ("Gotcha Day"). Husky House boarded the boys for me. How wonderful! I don't remember the exact amount of the boarding fee's, but I DO remember thinking "wow, that's not bad". AND........my adoption liaison arranged transportation of the boys for me. If you couldn't tell by now, I'll say it: Husky House and their staff are beyond fabulous. My boys came to me healthy, groomed, obviously very well socialized (with humans AND other dogs) and VERY well cared for. From day one I could tell that the staff at Husky House LOVE what they do. We adopted Charlie from Husky House a little over 2 months ago and are so grateful to have him in our lives. The team at Husky House moved the process along quickly and spoke with us to make sure we would be a good fit. Within a week we temporarily brought Charlie home and brought him back 3 weeks later to get neutered by their approved vet, which was highly rated and did a wonderful job. In the interim we brought him to our vet for a full physical and additional vaccines. Gloria on the husky house team was fantastic and made sure to answer any questions we had throughout the process. FULL REVIEW: Very disappointed in this "organization", and I use that term loosely. I've read all the reviews regarding HH, and for the positive reviewers on here who were fortunate enough to secure a loving dog from this place, that's wonderful and I wish you and your dog the best! But I'm one of the unfortunate individuals whose application was denied, and I was dumbfounded as to why, until recalling the fact I was forewarned regarding the poor reputation HH has maintained, and also by reading other reviews on here. Firstly, I think it's imperative that any adoption center ensures a dog is placed in the right home as much as they can. But as for HH, their application inquiries were extremely intrusive, so much it appeared to me they don't want to part with the dogs. You'll notice that a lot of the dogs have been with the shelter for a very long time, which may be misconstrued as there's something wrong with the dogs. This is extremely detrimental to placing dogs in the right homes. What a disservice to these animals! In actuality, this is because HH keeps denying prospective owners for no reason. On second thought, there IS a reason: their running scam is to adopt out the same dogs to different people so they can collect numerous adoption fees at a whopping $450 a pop. (And if you do happen to be approved to adopt one of their dogs, watch out they don't steal back the dog you paid for as they did with countless other adoptee hopefuls. Potential adopters must agree to use the vet associated with HH. WARNING! That's evidence of a kick-back scam for sure! It's like a modeling agency making the talent work w/ their staff photographers. Unethical! It's a "scratch my back & I'll scratch yours" situation. You adopted a dog, then it's YOUR pet. YOU reserve the right to care for your pet as you see fit once you sign those adoption papers. Don't let HH tell you anything different! Take the dog home with you IMMEDIATELY and don't let the dog step foot in HH ever again or you'll risk never seeing the dog again.) I have a fully fenced in yard, 6ft. I have prior Siberian Husky experience. I work from home full time-the dog would rarely be left alone. I own my home, and have plenty of space and a great neighborhood for a husky to thrive. My vet records are up to date and I have reliable references. But for some reason, HH deems me an undesirable candidate to adopt one of their available dogs. HH is very selective with clientele, they are borderline discriminatory. It seems HH is more for themselves vs their dogs. And that is SAD. To receive a denial email from their "board of directors" is a laugh. "Board of directors" of what? A rundown building off the highway with a sign that is so beat up that you'd pass right by it if you didn't know they exist? Please. They never checked any of my references and denied me within 24 hrs, BUT not before charging $10 for the application. (I didn't mind the app fee; take my $10 bucks and buy some food for your dogs.) A MAJOR RED FLAG: You can't just walk into HH to check out the available dogs like you can in just about every other adoption center. Nope, your application must be approved before you even step on the premises! Why would I apply for a dog that I haven' t even gotten a chance to meet yet? Seriously shady! I would say that I would never recommend this place to anyone, but that would not serve any interest to those beautiful dogs who are hoping for their forever home. I surrendered a husky pup to husky house and then changed my mind a week later. I called Lorraine the founder and informed her of my change of heart and said I wanted him back. She told me he's "PENDING" adoption NOT adopted yet. 48 hours later she has REFUSED to return my pup and has not returned my calls or my texts!!! Found out later that day they went through with the pending adoption after being fully aware I wanted him back. I'm heart broken about this. I wanted to share my disappointment for husky house and their handling of the adoption process, I understand that there are higher standards but my husband and I followed every aspect of their application, including heart-worm prevention and still we were left with unanswered emails and messages via Instagram. Months went by and in the end we still never received a straight answer from Husky House as to when we would be eligible to adopt from them... needless to say my husband and I gave up and i refuse to believe this hard of a time was given to other people adopting from Husky House !!! read more

Husky House is an amazing organization that has saved countless dogs and found them great forever homes. It is extremely unfair to post a negative review because 1. You were not approved as an adopter 2. You surrendered a dog and then changed your mind and wanted him/her back. Not being approved does not mean you aren't a good person with a huge heart, just that the situation is not right for the animal to be place with you at the present time. Surrendering an animal is one of the most important decisions. It affects far more than you and your family. Most importantly it affects the dog and much care and deliberation must be made before deciding on this path. I have volunteered with Husky House in the past. I was not involved in any administrative decision but I understand that the dogs come first and foremost in all things decided at this rescue. I understand how people can become upset but venting via reviews is childish and unfair to the dogs and the people that give their hearts to help animals that otherwise would be euthanized. read more

Truly wonderful people. Lorraine, Gloria and crew do incredible work in rehabilitating and rescuing these nearly forgotten but lovely animals from extremely difficult situations. We are nothing but thankful for the gift we've been given and will continue to donate & adopt! read more

After adopting four dogs from HH over the last three years, I started volunteering there last month. I've found the staff to be very professional with extremely high sanitation standards. They really care about the animals they rescue and board, and have very high standards regarding whom they allow to adopt their pups. read more

I too had a beautiful 8 month old husky pup my son purchased for me as a present. I took her to HAPPY TAILS VET in shrewsbury after noticing her not quite herself. She was evaluated and found to have eaten a sock. The vet then gave me a possible bill for about 10000 dollars to remove the object and after care. When I asked if I could make a payment plan. Because we did not have that much cash we were advised to surrender her to Huskey house and leave. Hours later I contacted my old vet in northern Nj and tried to retrieve my dog back. NO ONE would give me info or contact me regarding her. Theres something just wrong with the whole operation. I have heard too many of the same stories about this place. I even called the news on them. Shame on the vets for price gouging and the people that claim they are helping but are really not doing their redponsible acts. I myself am in the medical field and would never put my monetary gain over helping a life. Is it a rescue or a money making operation. Shame on Happy Tails veterinary hospital and shame on Husky house. The only great thing that happened from the whole situation was we became involved with nyc rescue dogs rock. And have a beautiful new guy who we love as much as we did and do Zoey our poor lost Siberian husky. read more

I was so excited to find a rescue that specialized in huskies, as I have owned and raised huskies since I was 21 ( I am now 53). This is 30 + years of experience with a very special breed that requires certain training, fencing, and more. They are very needy animals that love to escape. In any case, they are the only breed that I wanted and all of my huskies lived long into their teens. I was so excited about puppies that were rescued from Saudi Arabia so I began the adoption process. We had never rescued before, always went through a breeder, but wanted to something nice for dogs that truly needed a loving and safe home. Everything was great via email, we were discussing the process and how the dogs would have to be brought back in for nuetering which we agreed to. Anyway, they came for the home visit. I have electric fencing and metal gates that are unclimbable and approved by the county because we have a pool. We have a workshop, two decks, a large patio covered grill area, and 2 acres of property. This yard & house would be a dream for any dogs, and extremely safe. We know huskies like to escape so we have taken every precautionary measure to make sure they cannot. The electric fence company comes and trains the dogs on not passing over a certain point, too. The home visit seemed to go well until I received an AUTOMATED reply telling me that I was rejected for adoption because my dogs would not have shelter. There is so much shelter in my yard, because I do not have a dog house? No husky I have ever owned has went into a dog house when I did have one. This was extremely unprofessional and upsetting. Farah (the home visit lady) was very rude and not friendly. I will never try to adopt again unfortunately. The company does great things to help animals but they are turning people off from tryng to adopt and help innocent animals. Wouldn't recommend. read more

We adopted one of our pups from Husky House about a year ago. It was a great experience! The staff was super friendly and really helped us get to know our new pup. He was a rescue from Puerto Rico, and is the best dog we have ever adopted! Like all great rescues, Husky House requires a home visit before adopting any dogs, and a meet and greet with your current pet(s). They really know how to match up their rescue dogs with the perfect family! Thank you Husky House for being awesome! If you are denied an adoption, it's for a reason. The dog may not be the best match for you. As a volunteer organization, everyone there is doing things solely for the dogs. They are not paid, and get back to people as soon as they can. There isn't anyone sitting at a desk waiting for phone calls and emails. They are always busy taking care of the pups in their charge. They do wonderful, selfless work. Please be patient with the volunteers. They are paid in dog kisses, not cash, and many work full time jobs. read more

Our 2 year old husky was killed by a car and in our grief, my wife and I purchased a couple of t shirts to support this charity .... After waiting for months, I called them to ask where they were ... The owner informed me they were about to be sent and never got them .... Eventually she stopped picking up my calls ... It made us feel like our boy had died all over again ... had to call PAYPAL to get our money back .Not a very honourable group read more

My story is quite the same as others. I had met this rescue group eating dinner one night. After talking a bit they informed me they were from Husky House . I had a husky for 14 years and she had passed away . I loved her very much. Make a long story short with this part one of the ladies stated she was picking up a puppy showed me a pic and asked if i was interested. I said yes I would love to meet her. After communications back and forth Sunday that same week she stated that the dog was not being surrendered and she was sorry and would keep me in mind for another one. First off I was not looking for a puppy or another dog it was just presented to me . I though my baby was trying to come back to me. Also I just looked for a puppy siberian and the dog they told me that was not adoptable is on Pet finders. Whatever. anyway the week before last I was out side with my friend talking and a lady with a puppy was walking it looked like a brown siberian . Of course I wanted to pet the pup. My friend said I know her and she called her over and this was one of the ladies that I ate dinner with from Husky House. She stated that they have a 5 month old dog and she wanted to know if I was interested in seeing her. I said yes . Fast forward a bit. i went to see her and feel in love with the baby pup. They stated that I have to have cash and they wanted to come over for a home visit. That same day they came over introduced the pup to my other dogs ( 2 labs) rescues as well. Everything was great and they said do you want us to leave her here or do you want to pick up the baby tomorrow . I said the next day because she said she need her shots and so on. perfect I will pick her up after she goes to the doctor. I reached out to them the following day and no response . I called another individual who scheduled the home visit and she hung up on me 2 times. I had individuals that know the owner and got the owners # called and spoke to her . Explained the whole story and she said she would get back to me NOTHING yet. I found out through a friend that the dog is sick and should not be adopted out and is a large vet bill waiting to happen. Then why show her? Why is she on her site to be adopted? Why not call me to talk about this ? Why did she go threw another individual and not show any type of professionalism as a dog lover business owner or as a human being? I am baffled ! After speaking about my problem to other individuals around the area . They have all stated one thing or another that this place dosen't have a very good reputation. After hearing story after story I am glad I didn't move forward with this group. But I do have to say they should be ashamed its about the animal getting a good home . I have tried to keep individuals name out of the equation which was hard but my personal opinion I would not bother. read more
