Sue is so amazing with my German Shepard. Don't let those one star reviews fool you. Dogs are HARD to handle when they get bathed. There is no easy way to groom a dog. Especially if they do not like to be groomed and that's most dogs. Dogs need discipline and proper repercussion just like people. Dogs do jump around, bite and scratch... even the most well-behaved ones do it. I have a $30,000 ADA working dog, and she is the worst to get groomed but a gem in every other situation handed to her (as she has been trained to be). But Sue prevails and is so helpful. Sue allows me be right there with my dog and help her with the grooming and comfort of my dog. As stated above, ignore the one star reviews Sue is an amazing and knowledgeable lady in the dog grooming and care department. read more

ZERO STARS ANIMAL CRUELTY Reported to Animal Control If there was a better way to warn people or report this woman somehow through yelp to flag her so that no one would take their beloved animals here I would do it. The trauma that my dog and I just endured is something that has had me sick to my stomach for two days now. I dropped my sweet puppy off to this woman believing that she would groom her and that my puppy would be in good hands just like she has been with other groomers in the past. My puppy was in this woman's care for three hours before I got a disturbing call from her. She said I needed to come and pick her up because she couldn't handle her for one more second for being to vocal. I understand that my puppy is rambunctious and vocal but she's very sweet as most puppies are and I had explained this before ever dropping her off. As this woman has been doing this for twenty years I figured she had extensive experience with puppies. When I arrived to grab Dolly she had bloodshot eyes and it concerned me because she looked distressed and was desperately trying to get to me. I thought this was odd behavior for her but asked the woman if I could pay so we could leave. I could see that she had been washed and dried but her nails weren't cut and her fur wasn't trimmed she is a long haired breed. I was informed that she only takes cash or check so I took dolly and we went to the bank close by and when I got back I put the money ($80)on the counter and the woman explained she wanted to finish with me there so that my puppy would be more calm and this made me feel a little better about dolly's behavior because I though ok she just couldn't keep her still maybe she's just having a little separation anxiety. The woman takes dolly and ties her leash around her neck and attaches it to the groomers pole so tight that I ask her if dolly can breathe and she tells me it's fine she's been doing this for twenty years and she knows what she's doing even though I tried put my finger under the neck part and was unable it was so tight, i was trying to speak up and the woman just kept going and trying to bully me into being quiet and not letting me near my dog. Condemning me for letting her get away with "bad behavior" She very quickly and horrifyingly starts butchering her beautiful fur on her back legs with the clippers and hurt her right around her vulva and my poor puppy starts screaming and flailing like I've never heard in my life this woman is pulling her her tail so hard she is sprawling out and screaming in pain. I start screaming for her to stop. Dolly has an accident, get away and flies off the table and is hanging by her neck. She has bitten her tongue and there is blood all over as well. I push past the woman and grab my poor sweet girl and am frantically trying to undo the leash while this woman continues to berate me about helping dolly. This woman has the audacity to yell at me and tell me not to call my puppy by her name or try to comfort her or try to pull her up while I'm saving her. SHE IS BEING HUNG BY HER NECK AND DANGLING ABOVE THE GROUND! I I realize that if this is how my sweet girl is being treated in front of my face I cannot imagine the abuse she went through in the three hours she was there without me. My heart is absolutely broken my poor puppy is so traumatized that she won't eat and has been hiding in my room since we got home. I'm positive she was beaten because she's acting sore when I touch her and crying. Her eyes have burst blood vessels in them from the choking and hanging and I have been in a complete panic since this happened. I beg you to not take your beloved animals here this woman is a MONSTER!!! She shouldn't be around animals or people she is cruel and evil and I'm writing this to warn everyone about this animal abuser. She is a very sick woman with a horrendous temper. BEWARE read more

I was desperate to find immediate assistance with my 18 year old kitty. My cat was stressed and miserable with very matted fur. The owner /operater Sue, saw my kitty right away. RENAMED "PET GROOMING" next to Papa Murphy's Pizza on Hwy 49. I took my dog to this groomer for a third time before seeing "the other side". She came off a little brazen initially, but it was manageable for me. She let loose on visit #3. Let's just say-there's a reason this woman works alone. She has some sort of serious mental illness going on. All the negative reviews are completely on point. The bottom line is, as long as you agree with everything she says and does and NEVER question ANYTHING-you will do fine. But if you speak up about a concern regarding your pet in her care (or anything, for that matter) be prepared for her to talk circles around you and be 100% gaslit. The 5 star reviewers here don't speak up, ask questions, or pay close enough attention. She must be entirely insecure because she take's everything extremely negatively and personally-and once she goes down that pathway there is no turning her around. She is rude, confrontational, very opinionated, and doesn't care about any bodies feelings (only her own). She is extremely verbally abusive and I didn't feel safe leaving our dog in her care. I left her building totally shaken and luckily found another groomer in auburn w availability that same day. I told them about our experience and they had already heard other stories! It honestly took me a couple days to get over the way she was with me. The only reason I'm taking the time to review is because I have seen more reviews pop up since our experience. I think people need to be made aware. Especially since she moved and changed the name on her sign. That's pretty shady. Sue is amazing. We thought our little Frenchton needed some help clearing our his anal glands and when I called Sue, she said to drop by with him. When we did, she checked him, all the while being so sweet and gentle with him and showed us that his glands were not swollen and did not need any attention. She spent quite a bit of time with us educating us and giving advice, which was much appreciated. Although this took quite a bit of time out of her schedule, Sue absolutely refused any payment from us which is so rare in this day and age and very much appreciated. EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL Charged me $100 instead of the $50 she quoted me at for my 8 year old Corgi. CORGI like the small Queens dog! $100!!!! I've taken him to numerous groomers and this is the first time I've ever heard anything bad about his behavior and she even went on to insult my dog to me like I'm supposed to agree in front of another lady to! He's an old boy and the easiest dog I've ever had and she goes on about how my old groomer must be magic. How is that professional at all? First thing I noticed was the loud drier blowing air and all the dogs seemed freaked out by it and she didn't even notice. I never should have left my dog with her because she is obviously not a dog person. DO NOT COME HERE go to your local Petsmart or Petco because this place is a joke and a rip off. She'll quote you at one price and charge you another. This is the last time I go to the closest place to me. I'll be driving the 30 minutes to the old. Very diappointed by this groomer. I have had my ShihTzu groomed for years and never been so disappointed. I decided to give this groomer a chance because she was close to my office and loved the convenience. I called and was quoted $45 for a full service grooming and found that to be a little expensive but still decided to give it a shot. When I dropped her off I explained she gets matted due to living on a ranch and that I'd like to keep her body hair short.. Boy was I in for a surprise. When I picked her up 3 hours later she was completely shaved.. including her beard. When I asked why they cut her face so short the groomers question was "Well how silly would that look if her beard was long and her body was short?" Clearly, she does not groom a lot of Shih-Tzus as that is common to leave them with a bit of a beard. As disappointed as I was in the cut I was even more disappointed that she was now charging me $55 instead of $45 like I was quoted. When I asked why the price had gone up she said it was due to how long it took which seemed odd seeing as she called around the time she had suggested when I dropped her off. Overall I will not be returning to Paws and Claws. My money seems better spent going to a groomer more familiar with our breed of dog and more consistent with the pricing. read more

I have been taking my two cats to Sue at Paws and Claws forever. I highly recommend her!!! I've tried other big chains groomers and my cats always come home super stressed with diarrhea or,their hair is still matted in spots. But when I take them to Paws and Claws with Sue ,she treats them with kindness and she understands exactly what I need. They always look beautiful,and they always come home happy and less stressed , because they do not sit in a cage for hours. I love her short hours. Bad experience. Thought we would be getting a better cut for our dog by paying more(a stated $45) and did not. The owner did not know how to even give our dog a standard hair cut for her breed. Bad service and bad prices; ended up costing us $55. I have gone to this groomer multiple times. Every-time I go my dog sits in a crate-cage for HOURS with NO water. My dog came home and drank so much water she almost became sick, also the price changes all the time, one time it was $45 then $60 I went yesterday and she charged me $75. -I just got back from bringing my dogs here, I have a 10 year old husky mix, and a 2 year old boxer mix. She only charged me $35 for the boxer (her minimum), but $55 for the husky (which is $5 cheaper than the other place I was taking her too). I like how she had alot of dog sense. I admit when I first left her a message about cost for the dogs, she called me back with a message that I thought was rude. But I still gave her a chance, because sometimes animal people aren't always people people. -She knows how to read the dogs body language, and get a good idea about personality, to make sure that all dogs she has in at the same time are safe. Very knowledgeable, and will talk to you for days if she can about dogs. Which I don't mind one bit because I love talking about dogs, and getting pointers on handling them. -I definitely recommend this for people out on our side of town. And Anyone else who wants to get their dogs cleaned. -It also only took about an hour and a half for her and her assistant to do both of them. read more

When I first adopted Jill her nails were so over grown it effected how she walked, I desperately called different groomers and Sue responded with an excited "bring her in!" My puppies, a teacup Yorkie and a Spaniel, ages 9 & 11, are professional grooming clients at Paw's & Claw's. They are happy with the attention and care they recieve everytime they visit, which is every 3 to 4 weeks. Love how clean the shop is whenever we visit. I am always advised when either of the pups has something going that I haven't noticed. This tells me she is really paying attention and cares about their well being. Yes, she only takes cash or check...but for my money that beats mediocer service. Plus the fact that she doesn't use yucky chemicals is a real bonus. read more

I brought both of my Yorkies to Sue for grooming - I was quoted $50 each then charged more when I picked them up because one of them was "being a pistol' ok I understand that don't think you should quote one price then randomly charge a different one After she insulted my dog to the point I was almost in tears I paid and left. When I got home I realized she never finished cutting the one dog, his tail was still long, all legs had been brushed but not cut, nothing in the feet No nail clipping nothing - she did manage to shave his whole head which made him look like he had on furry ugg boots - terrible My other Yorkie had a completely shaved head - no one shaves Yorkie heads but that's not the worst of it - she had chunks of hair missing out of the side of the mouth, head was crooked, 1 ear long chunks sticking up - chest hair and legs long terrible!!!! My Mom came by and thought I did it myself, I should have it would have been better Hope I can post some pics it looked like her young assistant was given the shears and went for it Been to a lot of groomers and this was by far the worst experience ever definitely the worst cuts in both dogs! I took my min pin there to be groomed. The bath went well. My dog gets pretty nervous when his nails are clipped. My dog was kind of giving the groomer a little bit of a problem with the nails and the owner abruptly stopped cutting one dog's hair to assist. One the first clip, the dog whimpered and she moved onto the second nail. She cut too short and my dog yelped and then pooped on the first groomer. The owner immediately stopped and instruct the first groomer to bathe him and get him out. She was really mad over something she did. Then she had the nerve to charge me full price!! My dog left the store limping because she cut too short. read more

My dog is very hard to handle and she did great with him .I was very happy with my trim.

I explained to this groomer that my Pyrenees was a rescue that had been abused and that she was VERY afraid. I explained that it took me two years to be able to bath and brush her myself, but that now I needed her trimmed down for the summer, but that she is afraid of clippers, etc. She said to bring her in at 8AM. I took the day off from work and brought her in only to be told that my dog would be traumatized by drying and clipping and I should take her home. What a waste of my time!! This is the best groomer I have ever had, Sue Bowman is a very professional skilled groomer. Unfortunately a couple of years ago her shop In Lake of the Pines burned down. In the meantime I had to find a groomer and my poor liitle Shih Tzu went through hell. Tried the new groomer in Lake of the Pines and my Shih Tzu had razor burns so badly that the vet bill was $170.00. and she denied all responsibility. Also tried various groomers in Grass Valley and Nevada City with really bad luck. I have Borzoi that I groom and show so I know about good grooming., the Borzoi I can groom but my little heart baby Shih Tzu takes special attention. I found Sue again in Auburn after desperately trying to find her on line. My Shih Tzu looks beautiful again and if you really love your dog this is where you want to take them.
