I wish I could give this place zero stars. I have been taking my own dog here for quite some time and they do a great job grooming. My issue stands with the behavior I saw displayed by the staff to the animals. On June 11th, 2020 at 2:10pm I was in the lobby waiting to get my dog after his grooming apt. As I'm waiting I watched a lady groomer (short blonde hair) through the grooming window hit a dog as hard as she could. The dog whimpered and she carried on grooming him. The front desk clerk heard my gasp reaction and instantly asked what was wrong. As I explained to him he didn't have anything to say. He walked in got my dog and returned out. As he returned I asked him if they ever hit my dog while he was there and they said of course not. I'm so upset with tears in my eyes as I write this review. Sick to my stomach of what i saw. If you cannot be kind and nice to animals you shouldn't work with them. We consider these dogs part of our family and trust good people to groom and care for them. This is beyond repulsive behavior but should be disciplined. I tried to quickly take a photo. This is the best I could get. First of all, it's overpriced. Everything is extra $15. $60 includes bath and cut only... My bill was always $75-$80. Today I come in for my appointment the owner/manager starts with telling me that I don't brush my dog and I should do a better job and that she feels couple! mites on his paw... I'm thinking like: okay, should I clean and brush him before I bring him to you? Why would I come then? She tells me that she will charge me extra 10-15$ for that (of course she did $15). I'm like okay, it is what it is....(I will attach a picture of the dog the morning I took him so you see he does not look homeless) I've been going there since I got my puppy 8 months ago (I also have a 16 year old dog, so you know what, I know what I'm doing). Additionally to paying $75 each time (for grooming) I purchased a few products from them as well (each $20+). Last time I was recommended a shampoo and spray for... MITES which is $20. Clearly does not work.. I tried following instructions two times... spayed it on the dog, he was sneezing from it like crazy. Guess what, spray or no spray- no difference. But my dog maybe had a couple of tangles from rainy weather that's all. I come in and the bill is $80 (bath and cut only, including $15 for those two mites she felt), okay, I have no problem. I explain that the spray they recommend is not working for my dog and I would like to exchange it for some other product. She goes: No, you used it and I cannot sell it so I'm not returning it.... I use the same product here and it works for me and you don't brush your dog that's why. I'm like: Well, I used it two times following instructions and it made no difference. Additionally if you are using this product you can use it (if you think it works) and not re-sell it. Long story short: she did not exchange something they recommended and customer could not use, $80 bill for 12 lbs dog that does not include anything accept bath and cut(no ears, teeth etc.)... Very long meaningless conversation about me being a terrible dog owner and that I can't return products I opened (em... actually you CAN). Additionally they can't operate their credit card machine and they offered me to go look for an ATM while keeping my dog for over 4 hours at that point ... At that point I would be okay with them calling police and explaining why I can't take my dog. With offering them multiple cards to swipe (no Amex, no debit card ran as credit etc.)... I had to pay with my MasterCard that was completely paid off and I wanted to close it. See before and after pictures... do they do a good job? Dog looked cuter before I also read previous reviews and it seems that quite a few people got the same attitude from the owner: Oh, you don't like something? That's because you don't know anything about your own dog, I know better and if you don't like it-hit the road, don't care and I'm too busy for you. I also had to note that the one time prior to today's incident my dog returned from them with CUT skin under his eye where they shave off the tear stained fur!!! My vet recommended my longhair cat be regularly trimmed and have used Pawllywood several times. They are very nice, professional, and do a good job. I like that there is a window into the grooming area so I can see how it is going and they have been very gentle and careful with my senior cat. It is a little expensive, but it is nice to have found a good place with reasonable schedule availability. The little Pawllywood bandana is a cute touch. read more

I don't take writing one star reviews very lightly. So let me briefly describe my experience here and let you decide. I have a 13-year-old happy go lucky mutt. He's pretty deaf, pretty blind in one eye and his joints aren't as flexible as they used to be. The staff would know all this information, but on a busy weekend afternoon, they pretty much just grabbed his leash and brought him into the back for a simple nail trim and didn't ask anything about him. I didn't think it really mattered - after all, he was just there to get his nails clipped and every other dog groomer I've taken him to has spent time petting him first, looking carefully at his nails before actually doing anything to him. Do you forget that you have windows where we can watch you? My little niece and I watched in disbelief as he was plopped onto a table, quickly leashed and then the groomer ROUGHLY did his front paws, then YANKED his back legs in an awkward angle to get at his nails. I could hear my poor old man yelp in pain, so much so that when the groomer tried to touch him again, he tried to bite her hand. My niece was so upset seeing him this way that she almost started crying. On the plus side, he was pretty much in and out of that place in less than 10 minutes. I should have said something right then and there. But I didn't. All I wanted to do was grab my dog and get the hell out of there. If I come back, I will specifically ask for a different groomer, not that woman. I will not allow her to touch my dog ever again. read more

Today I brought my dog for the third time to be groomed. I was given a price that was higher than 3 months ago and no one mentioned the increase when I made the appointment. When I questioned the increase, they lied and said my dog's hair was too long, which is b.s. When I said that is not true, they said smaller dogs cost more. I said you need to tell customers at the time of the appointment, not be rudely surprised when you come to pick up your dog. Very disappointed, as I gave the company several chances to bill me what I had paid previously and they said no. The final no is mine, as to not doing business with them anymore. read more

We specifically stated "no cut" when we booked it and when I dropped her off I stated not once, but twice that it was for a bath and nail trim ONLY. We had an appointment for 10am, but they were a "little behind". We called at 1230, she was going to be done soon, at 2PM she was next. Finally got a call that she was "almost done, come pick her up", fine I guess. I walked in and I find out that they cut my puppy's head and snout hair! She looks ridiculous! I wasn't going to comment, but after my wife left a poor Google review, they lied and said we "never told them not to cut her hair". To put it simply, I cannot wait to treat my furbabies to another day at Pawllywood. My dog and kitten went in for a bath and came out looking so fresh, soft and shiny. Not to mention fancy with blue and pink "pawllywood" bandanas and my kitten had little flower jewels on the back of her ears. The wash includes teeth brushing and nail clipping also. I'm in love! For a more extensive review, just last week to the day we discovered fleas on our kitten. She's an indoor cat so they must have come from our dog, but we couldn't find any on him. This past week we've been taking all the steps in handling the situation and doing our best to be as thorough as we can, but a few were still coming up on her the last few days. At any rate, I called Pawllywood to make an appointment for them both to get washed at the same time so we could clean up our place at once without interruption. I mentioned about fleas unsure if they would take them, but the lady was very nice and assured me it was no problem and they could take care of it. She also mentioned she uses all natural products. As we went in, a few pups had just come out from getting groomed, and one was finishing up inside. They all looked great. My little ones were taken back right on schedule, and it took about 3 hours. Again, they looked adorable in their bandanas and little "earrings." It may seem a little pricey, but I will definitely be back. The only thing is I wish I caught the owners name. read more

Our Shih Tzu #DixieBirdstone is almost 9 years old and she's a very anxious pup. We got her at 2 years old and began taking her to the chain stores for grooming. But the last time we took her to Petco was THE last time. She was there for over 5 hours and her cut was crooked and she just didn't look clean. So I bought my own clippers and watched some YouTube videos and resigned to grooming her myself, only visiting the groomer once or twice a year to make sure her ears, nails, and teeth are being done right. Last week I began to search for a private groomer and came across Pawllywood. Every review was great so we decided to try. I'm SO GLAD we did. From the moment we walked through the door, Dixie was fine. It was fairly quiet and she was not shaking at all. Her groomer Rita came out and held her as we discussed her cut. The only time she even showed a little anxiety was when Rita took her through the door to the back. She was done in under 2 hours, and when I got there and saw her, I knew I made a good decision. It was the best she's ever looked in the 7 years we've had her. And her groomer said, "I didn't sense any anxiety at all! I actually think she enjoyed it." Which made me happy, because when I groom her, she usually loves it so much that she falls asleep. I 100% recommend Pawllywood to anyone looking for fast, personal, professional service. Bear in mind I have a PhD in Brain & Behavior whereas the owner of this place has a major in **BUSINESS**. Solange - the owner - understands *NOTHING* about animal behavior. She DOES NOT understand that dogs can get depressed n can display a myriad of behaviors when closely attached to their owners n are abruptly separated from them (aka don't eat their food). We have experienced a few dog boarding places before and I speak with uttermost first hand knowledge. I came to board our one year old Bernedoodle one week ago and while I was finalizing the paperwork, a lady from her staff came and literally SNATCHED *MY* dog away from my kids. When I was done with paperwork I asked where was he and she started YELLING AT ME AND IN FRONT OF THREE other customers (I contacted two of them afterwards and they're my witnesses) and MY KIDS (4 and 6) "I AM NOT GOING TO BRING YOUR DOG BACK HERE". Obviously after this absurd altercation I decided *NOT* to board my puppy there and FOR THE LACK OF INTELLIGENCE from her end SHE HAD TO BRING MY DOG BACK TO ME ANYWAY. One customer immediately left the facility after watching ALL this LACK OF  professionalism. Solange does not understand the word CONSENT. She has VERY POOR comprehension that YOU MUST ASK FOR OTHERS CONSENT IN ORDER TO DO ANYTHING WITH THEIR BELONGINGS. This place is NOT professional AT ALL. Theres a lot of red flags.. On top of everything, as if this was not enough, you can call and compare. Pawlywood  IS OVERPRICED. Instead of coming here you are WAY better off at HOUNDSTOWN. Among ALL boarding places Houndstown really seems to be THE BEST and the most fair priced. At Pawlywood you must pay $60 for a bath after boarding your dog. At Houndstown they charge $35 and if you board 5 night + they shower your puppy for free. At Houndstown you find ANIMAL BEHAVIORISTS amongst their staff and staff are WAY more friendly and kinder to animals than at Pawlywood. They're NOT business oriented THEY REALLY CARE and understand about dogs. It's awful that places like this can be so deceiving. Solange doesn't care about quality - her main goal is quantity. I told many friends of mine about the lack of professionalism of this place and was able to redirect them all away from here. read more

I have a five-month-old chocolate lab, and I took him here to get a puppy bath. The place was very clean I will give them that, but I was not impressed with how they handled my dog. They made me write his name on a sticky note to keep track of him and then proceeded to bring my dog into the salon area, he got scared because of the loud noises from the machinery, and then the woman harshly grabbed my dog and was dragging him with a blue rope. (They dragged him!!) Then after pulling him into the back, they said they'll call me when my dog is done. I said okay what time will he be finished; they told me an hour. Then I left, after that, it made me very nervous leaving him. -It took almost three hours- I called them because it had almost been three hours at this point, to check what time he would be done. When I said my dog's name, she did not know who my dog was, and it was the same woman I spoke to in person at the salon!!! I had to explain what he looked like over the phone. I came to pick him up and said my dog's name, and she didn't know again.. who he was. It was a very frustrating ordeal. I would not recommend this place; they did not take the time to know anything about my dog. When I brought my dog home, he was not acting like himself. He was crying and hiding in a corner almost the whole day. He has been to other groomer's before and never acted this way. That made me very upset! I will never do that again. read more

I would not recommend this place. I tried to take my dog here twice and had poor experience. Both times his ears were not cleaned. I did call back the first time and just thought it was a "one off". Then I just recently took him back the second time and it happened again. I also have a feeling that they don't actually "wash the dogs" I think they just spray them with a freshener to make them smell good. The reason why I think this is because both times when I went to pick up my dog he still had small little "sleepies" in his eye corner.. idk. First of all I am a super grateful, appreciative and generous customer. I go above and beyond to respect all who provide services to us or our dogs, which we love beyond words. We treated the groomers at Pawllywood well, including tips, generous xmas gifts, and breakfast bagels, cakes, etc. during each of our visits, which were every 4 weeks. We entrusted our 3 dogs to Elsa her other groomer, and her sister. We were happy in the beginning as the grooming was great, and the staff seemed grateful and generally nice. Then we had an incident, where the sister caused bleeding and an infection in my little maltese's ear. I checked her on the way home and the ear was filled with blood. We called and received a response that said she came in with an infection and they cleaned it out. First of all no one mentioned this to me at any time. I had to call and provide pictures. I took my girl, who was in pain, wouldn't eat and wouldn't let us touch her for a week and a half, to the vet. The vet said that there was damage due to the groomer using a tool to pull out ear hair too roughly. The only issue with the ear resulted from this process. My baby did not go in with an infection, as I check my dogs daily after brushing their teeth and and cleaning their eyes. She never displayed signs of an infection, AND the vet said it was not an infection, but trauma to the ear as a result of being too rough pulling the ear hair, which by the way I never asked them to do. Foolish me, as I gave them another chance, and my other dog was bleeding from the mouth when we picked her up. Elsa apologized, and said she didn't know what happened. She continued to bleed, and I had to purchase quick stop and apply compresses the remainder of the day. Upon checking her out, one nail was jagged and I assume that is how this happened. But who knows? After all this we requested that Elsa trim our babies, and we were met with a super bad attitude, just as many reviewers noted. The look on her face just gave me chills, and I still can feel the attitude that came through to her face. She told us that her groomers take it personally when we prefer her to groom the dogs. OMG I take it personally when you injure my girl, and then do not let us know! I take it personally when you send my other girl home bleeding. My god we were GREAT customers, and deserved to be treated much better. We moved on and will not be returning. read more

I have been taking my toy Maltipoo to Pallywood for four years, they do a good job grooming, but recently, the time they take to get my 10 lb dog groomed is absurd (4 hrs). When I call to find out how long before they will finish, Elise(the owner) has an attitude even to get an estimated time. All you hear is, "we will call you when we are finished." I made an appointment for noon for full grooming, and at 2:40 pm, I called to get an estimated time and was met with an attitude. It was close to three hours, and they were unable to give an estimated time. Another day, I dropped my dog off at 11 am and called around 3:45 to find out what time they expect her to be done. As usual, I was told each dog takes 3-4hrs, and they will call. The time was close to the 4-hour window, and they still could not give me an estimated time. What is the purpose of making an appointment?? I do not live in the area, so I often called when I'm still in that location to know when my dog will be ready. When I mentioned the ridiculous time it takes, Elise told me I sometimes cancel the same day :-). I'm not sure if she is trying to make an excuse for overbooking, but she failed to realize I've been a customer for four years, and I do have to cancel when it's beyond my control. I've also offered to pay her when I cancel the same day. JENNIFER was great with my dog and never took this long to get her groomed, but she no longer works there :-(. read more

I am the owner of the dog that you took a picture of at Pawllywood in Cherry Hill NJ. The owner called us the next day to come in and look at a video and explained to us what had happened. We were not aware that anything had happened. When I picked up our dog on June 11, he was fine showing no signs of being stressed, abused or injured. My husband and I went in to see the video of our dog being groomed. After viewing the video, we looked at each other and said what is all the fuss about? We did not think that any abusive action had taken place. Since you posted your review and blasted a picture of our dog, which you did not get our permission to take, all over the internet; the owner has received threats, been told to go back to her own country and has had people canceling their appointments. She is afraid for her life and the safety of her store. Also, the girl grooming our dog lost her job. You really need to stop and think before you post a review on the internet. I am hoping that everyone will stop harassing the owner and reschedule your appointments. My dog has been coming to Pawllywood for over 5 years 4 times a year. This is the only place that gets his cut right. He is a Bouvier de Flanders. Most groomers don't know how to cut a Bouvier face. We have never had any issues with the owner or her grooming. We will continue to go to this groomer and recommend her to anyone who needs to get their pet groomed. Also, her prices are reasonable. If I could give this place a negative rating, I would. First, the actual grooming is decent. I have a long-haired dog but she's no master/certified groomer; she's decent. My issue is the LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE from ELISE, the owner herself. I called to make an appointment for our second visit. Made the appt. for 11:30am on Thursday before Xmas, for a simple wash, and asked them I she could be ready by 2:00pm. First of all, Elise never smiles or gives a friendly greeting when we come in. She always looks busy and angry. They told me it was really busy so they didn't now if she'd be ready on time (then what's the purpose of an appointment and why are you greedily overbooking?). I decided to drop her off at 9:00am to give them more time since I was headed to the airport and needed to pick her up by 2:00pm. When I received information that my flight was delayed, I called and told Elise she had a bit more time but to CALL me when she was done. Hours went by and I hadn't heard from Elise so I went to pick her up. All seemed well. --------------------------------------------------------------------- #1: my pup had sat in her EXCREMENT between the time she was washed and dried and the time I came to pick her up. She had a piece of dried poop stuck to the underside of her tail and a few specs on her hind legs. #2: my pup was practically DEHYDRATED from sitting at the groomer's all day. She drank so much water that she threw it up a few minutes later (the male employee said they didn't have time or manpower to walk and feed the dogs). #3: they forgot to clip her DEW CLAWS (alleged they did, but didn't want to cut too low, yet they took her back and cut them and they looked fine to me). #4: her EARS were dirty and smelled. Once I returned to town, I went back to Pawllywood on Monday, 12/26, to share my concerns with Elise, who was too "busy" to come out and talk to me. When she finally came up front, I began to express my concerns, she immediately CUT ME OFF without listening to what I was saying. Then she went into full ATTITUDE mode and DENIAL that any of those things could happen under her watch. While I tried to wait my turn to speak, she continued RAISING HER VOICE, CUTTING ME OFF and telling me I WAS WRONG and why did I wait so long to report the issues. I tried to explain we went out of town and came in immediately upon returning, but she kept talking in circles with a lot of sass and attitude as if she was annoyed I was dissatisfied. She told me they gave my puppy water, but they can't let them out to use the bathroom. She also told me she cleaned the ears and that my dog must have an ear infection (I cleaned them the day after she came from Elise's, the q-tips were filthy .... a week later and they're still clean and smell great, so they probably just forgot and couldn't admit that). Clearly they forgot the dew claws because they clipped them when I went in on Monday, but she made up an excuse about that too. At that point, she told me I was COMPLAINING TOO MUCH. I calmly asked for a refund or that my next wash was complimentary. She told me she'll wash her for free that day. I told her I had already washed her (to get the excrement out) and cleaned her ears. I even brought the q-tips as proof. When I pulled out the q-tips, she was rude and erratic and kept telling me that that's NOT HER PROBLEM she will wash the dog again that day (which meant I'd have to wait because she was super busy). Again, I requested a refund or a complimentary wash on our next visit. So bragging about 11 positive reviews after you've groomed hundreds of dogs is statistically ignorant, unprofessional and careless. Many people don't leave negative reviews because they just don't want to be bothered. You were overbooked and overwhelmed, admit it, apologize, and move on. Elise, there are other good groomers in the area. Professionals and business owners don't conduct themselves that way and they don't respond to customer complaints that way either. I wish you happiness and that, if nothing else, you'll watch how you talk to customers who bring things to your attention. Anyone can wash. And lots of people can wash and groom.
