I would not recommend this groomer. The exterior appears unkempt, and the strong smell of animal urine is noticeable just walking past the building. First impressions matter, and this did not give me confidence in the cleanliness or care provided. read more

I called mid-afternoon to see if my dog could get an emergency anal gland expression with their groomer. I was delighted when the kind lady said I could come by anytime convenient for me. Being that it was a work day, my husband and I arranged for one of us to bring our pup by, and the expression took mins. My dog was at ease, after being so anxious all morning and day. Arranging this procedure at my vet, which we normally get done, would not have happened for days, if not weeks! Additionally, other local dog groomers in Fairmount, are not as available!! They intermittently pick up phone calls as they wish, and do not make a sincere effort to return calls or messages. This place was very accommodating. I have yet to bring my dog for a full grooming, but hope to do soon! read more

What a great little pet place! I don't think there is a tinier storefront anywhere in Philly, but the two very lovely owners have figured out a way to make it work beautifully. Not only can you get expert grooming services, but you can also take home organic, all natural human grade dog food, treats and toys. Extra love for the fact that you can book services on their easy to use website. Piper the dog says "bark bark bark yip!" read more

Philly Dog Spot - Pet Groomers Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The owner Alex is really good at his trade. We sent our fleecy puppy toy poodle to the shop. Within 90 minutes, he is an elegant, proud member of the poodle family. Inside the tiny, crowded and somewhat unkempt shop (peaking through the window), there are more than three other dogs, too, which makes it impossible for dog owners to fit in. However, Alex manages to chill everyone down. I saw my puppy sitting still and having his hair cut. At the end, the transformation is a surprise. read more

Philly Dog Spot - Peaking at the work through the window. - Pet Groomers Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Small cramped bare bones spot off the main drag in Chestnut Hill. Two very friendly men put our skittery dogs at ease, managed to erase the barnyard dirty dog smell from their coats, dry them off with an industrial dryer, and brush their fur with minimal trauma. I was pleased that my dogs no longer smelled like dirty goats. On the not so bright side, It's a jumbled mess in there and there's not much room for the dogs let alone a few people standing in the corner waiting. It's also pricey- at $30 a pop for a basic wash and dry this is definitely a splurge. If I had long haired dogs, who actually needed to be groomed I would definitely pay this place a visit. read more

We scheduled an appointment on Saturday for 1030 this morning. When we showed up the door was locked and the inside of the place looked like a flop house. We called and it immediately went to voicemail and the mailbox was full. Glad we wasted our morning going to some fake dog groomer who wasn't even there when we arrived. DO NOT go here ever, there are real dog groomers in the area. I figured because it was in Chestnut Hill it would be a nice establishment, what a mistake. read more

I am thrilled to have found this spot! After having trouble with other local groomers (Petsmart, etc.) and my dog being too terrified to even step in the Proud Pooch (not sure what's going on there but I think my dog's sixth sense was kicking in alerting me that she wouldn't be treated as well as I would have liked), I read the reviews on Yelp for Philly Dog Spot. In this teeny tiny spot around the corner, the staff is very friendly and I am happiest with the fact that they don't work on several dogs at a time by keeping the waiting dogs caged up. I was thrilled to hear that Martini behaved like an angel, and I owe it to the excellent service she received. Thank you Philly Dog Spot for taking a lot of stress out of taking my beloved pooch to the groomer. read more

Very suspicious situation...was way too into my dog and would not let me come inside. I was asked to leave my dog and come back in an hour for a 10 minute quick wash and when I asked to just stay and wait things got very uncomfortable. I don't know what goes on here but can say for sure that this place gave me very strange vibes and I would never leave my dog unattended here! read more

This place looks suspect as hell since the location looks nothing like what is pictured when you search for the place but the groomer does an excellent job with my golden retriever who gets matted easily. The groomer is nice and knows what he is doing. You can tell this guy really loves dogs. He accepts PayPal and cash which is convenient and I'm able to book appointments online which is really helpful. read more

This place is not as advertised. This small cramped, no bigger than a small bedroom, place was not clean. There were boxes everywhere, small dogs on the shelves, a new dog mom on the floor with her pups in a cardboard box a english sheepdog that had just been groomed was pinned between the door and wall by a divider, had not been clean down for what looked to be decades and last but not least the fellow was unkempt. My dog needed to be groomed but I wouldn't even get a hair cut in a place like this. Alex answered the door looking like he hadn't taken care of himself in years. He claimed to know how to cut dog hair but I saw no indication that he study the breeds and knew that some couldnt be cut the same as others. He had an attitude after sensing my disinterest. I am all for new business and small ones but this is like a bad idea. Its not a legit business its some guys hobby and trying to get paid for it in an unprofessional way. I will never go to this place ever again. My dogs deserve better. read more

I read Carrie's review for PHillydogspot and since it was close enough by i made the call. The owner answered and he was really nice and also explained that they don't crate the dogs because they only take 1 at a time. That was enough for me! My dog is 13 and the last thing he needs is that kind of stress. So I was really happy when I picked him up after he was finished and he was happy. The owner is a sweetheart and very accommodating. I would recommend this groomer because he really cares about your doggie. read more

I live in the area. Ran into a guy last night who was looking for his dog who had escaped from Philly Dog Spot... This is second owner of escaped dog I have encountered... Owners of other dog were frantic, were canvassing area for days... I don't believe they ever found their dog.... Heads up! read more

Kind of a whacky, cramped environment, but the dogs came out looking good, on time and as promised.

Great little place! Super nice and experienced groomer...my pooch came home looking oh so handsome! Just a great cut at a reasonable price. I plan to make my regular grooming appointments here because you can tell that the place is clean and the treat their clients (canine and human) well. It's hard to find a decent groomer...so, look no further! read more

Love love love this place!!! This is the only groomer out of many that I have returned to, he does such a great job. Very friendly, great price...true hidden gem! read more

I have used Alex's services for too many years to count, since his shop was in Chestnut Hill (yes, those photos here are from the old shop). His new location isn't as fancy a neighborhood, but I would follow him anywhere! He is skilled at lovingly calming my nervous younger pup, and somehow my 13 yr old dog who is often grumpy/defensive/aggressive towards other dogs is calm and accepting of Alex's pack at the shop. My rescue hound mixes don't need hair cuts, but taking them to Alex every 8 weeks or so leaves them shedding less, smelling fresh (but NOT perfumed!) with clean ears and perfectly trimmed nails, and when needed he also releases their anal glands. He cares deeply for every pet he grooms, and is very knowledgeable about canine health and wellness. read more

I have been bring my dog here for about a year now. The first few times we went Alex was great. Our dog came back happy and looking wonderful. The last time Tucker came home, his cut looked horrible. It was sloppy and uneven. Today, I had an appointment scheduled for 10:00. I received a call at about 9:30 saying we had to push our appointment back to 11. Okay, no problem. I just sat outside a dirty, unkept shop for 20 minutes before Tucker and I left. We will NOT be returning in the future. read more

Owner is very experienced, informal and funny. Dogs are not crated, but are left in the shop -- usually they are the only dogs there, so it ends up being a positive experience. My dogs are always relaxed when I pick them up. read more

Alex grooms our puppy and she is terrified of cages so this is the perfect spot. He clearly loves animals and knows how to manage many of them in the same tiny space. She comes out looking good, but more importantly isn't traumatized by the experience. read more

I have tried many groomers in Philly and I can honestly say Alex is the best in every way - expertize, warmth, care for animals, efficiency and price. Every time we go we have an excellent experience. My fox terrier is hand stripped and Alex does a superb job in very little time. I used to take him to a place in the city who were good but my dog was there for 8 hours and it cost double. I highly recommend Philly Dog Spot - Alex cares deeply for dogs and is also very clued up. He made some very useful recommendations to me regarding my dog's skin and well being. read more

Not even a real establishment. The pictures do not reflect the "new place" on 26th which is really just someone's house in a neighborhood that wasn't too great. It's a white house on the corner with 5 or 6 dogs barking and it looked dirty and unprofessional from what I could see from the cracked door. Owner was not around in time for my "appointment". Very weird vibes. Probably don't take your dog here. I wish I would've taken pictures. read more

Don't use this place om a regular basis since my daughter tends to groom our dogs when she is around. However when we need a groomer this is where we come. Alex is always reassuring and accomodating. The grooming is always done as requested and the price is great!! read more

Loved this place! The two owners took such good care of our newly adopted pup. They explained that she was a little nervous, since she's a recent rescue, and did not force her to stay under the dryer when it scared her. We'll be visiting for the $30 grooming package every two months! read more

I took my pug here for the first time and am very happy with my experience. Alex even put a new roll of poop bags in the empty canister that was clipped to my leash. read more

Today was my dog's second visit to Philly Dog Spot and once again, could not have been happier! I love that they deal with one dog at a time. I had noticed that my dog was scratching more than usual and mentioned it when I got there. I was told I could come back in an hour and a half and they were right on time. When I picked my dog up, they mentioned that her skin was 'not happy' and that they used a very gentle shampoo on her. He also recommended that I check with my vet to verify it was ok to give her an antihistamine because it looked like an allergic reaction. I really appreciated the advice and the thoughtfulness and thoroughness. They also gave her a cute little bandana that went with her coat color perfectly. Could not have been happier and will be back regularly. read more

I am very pleased with my experience at the Philly Dog Spot and will definitely return! I have a tiny Yorkie and I am very finicky about her care. After reading all of the great reviews on yelp I decided to try Philly Dog Spot. I was nervous after reading reviews about one dog at a time being taken but I was able to easily make an appointment for 10am the same morning using the online appointment booking tool. Once there my dog was welcomed with open arms by who i'm guessing were the two owners. About a half hour - 45 minutes later I came back and found my dog to be perfectly bathed and groomed and even with a nail clipping for $20! The one owner seemed extremely knowledgeable about Yorkies and gave me some great advice regarding my dog's skin. The only one thing I can say is that I did have trouble locating the front door as it is around the corner from Germantown on Rex street but a quick phone call to the storefront got me right back on track. read more

Alex is the best! We've been taking our dog Marley to alex for about five years now, and always have a great experience. After trying several groomers when we first got him, we'll never go anywhere else. He's accommodating with our schedules and is always sweet and very knowledgable. I'm glad to see his business is growing, he deserves it! read more

I took our dog here for grooming and it was just okay. I did not really love the style he came out with- too poufy looking from the blow drying. But the main reason I'm only giving 2 stars and will not go back any time soon is that it is so dirty. Hair everywhere, 6 inches deep and smelly too. I don't think they ever clean or sweep. I was worried my baby could have got fleas! read more

Alex is awesome to work with. He is a top notch groomer and very kind and does beautiful work. My Labrador looked beautiful!

First time visiting Philly Dog Spot. Yay! I'm a fan. I used to take my pup to PetSmart, but I didn't feel right dropping my dog off and picking her up in 4 hours. A wash/dry shouldn't take 4 hours? So... I looked to Yelp for another local groomer. Philly Dog Spot had good reviews, so I gave it a shot. -Online scheduling is super easy! The service offers e-mail and text message reminders. -Owner/operator is super friendly. -I LOVE that he does only 1 dog at a time- No cages here! -My pooch finally got a cut that I asked for. The only (minor) downside is that there is no parking lot. I found street parking a block away. The shop is quaint and a little disorganized, but the service is stellar. I will definately be bringing my pup back for another groom. read more

Alex is great. My dog is super furry and very enthusiastic, and can be a little hard to handle, but Alex always done an incredible job, does it quickly and inexpensively. This is my go-to groomer and should be everyone's! read more

Major issues: 1. There's very poor parking near the business. 2. You have to stand outside to wait until he's finished the dog he's working on. 3. You have to stand outside to wait until he's finished your dog. 4. You have to transact financial business (exchange $$$) outside of the business. 5. I never could see inside to see the cleanliness of the shop. 6. My dog came home with a deep gash in the neck area (probably from the clipper) 7. And finally, the cut was horrible. It looked like an amateur cut, uneven and I could see tracks in her hair from the direction of the clipper. I don't think this groomer was professionally trained. I DO NOT recommend that anyone use this groomer - buyer's beware!!!!! read more

I had an appointment earlier for my maltipoo but could not allow my pup to be groomed here. The place did not look like it would meet the requirements for sanitation. The groomer did state that he bleaches the floor daily but from the color of the flooring, it didn't seem so. The owner or groomer did not look like he had shower in days. When I questioned him about his work environment, immediately I noticed that he no longer wanted me to stay. I was also under the impression that this was still in chestnut hill as his website still promotes it. I will not be back. read more

I tried them out based on a glowing recommendation from a neighbor, but I probably will not return. The place is just so chaotic. I owners seem very nice and appear to have good intentions, but they really lack organization in a space that is just too small. I was also under the impression that they only take one dog at a time, but there were at least 4 other dogs in the place when I dropped mine off. I am not sure if they were clients or if they were the owners' own dogs? I am all for a crate-free environment, but not when there are so many dogs in one space who are not familiar with one another. I got the basic bath package with the deshedding. My dog smelled okay (not really fresh like at some other places. but I am not sure what products they use) and his nails were well trimmed, but his ears and face were still dirty. Overall, I think this place has potential, but it needs to work out a few things before I would go back. read more

We inherited a Welsh terrier who has had a double femoral head osteotomy (i.e., removal of the balls of his thighbones), is nearly completely deaf, and has doggie dementia. He really needed a bath, some dematting, and, obviously, special care. We are happy to report that Alex, at Philly Dog Spot, knew just how to handle our pooch. We dropped him off, left to have a coffee at Chestnut Hill Coffee (incidentally, the best in the area, but that is the subject of a different review), and returned an hour and fifteen minutes later to pick up our "new" dog: he looked so transformed that we hardly recognized him. The price was fair. (We had the Refresh Package.) All in all, we highly recommend Philly Dog Spot. read more

I have had many groomers for my dogs over the years but Alex at Phillydogspot is THE BEST. He is more knowledgeable on many subjects than some of the vets I have known. He does a GREAT job, notices and tells you about any little thing that seems like it may need attention, is somehow ALWAYS on time and is more than reasonable price-wise. I'm so glad he is so close to us. (We live in Mt. Airy.) "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" Absolutely! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I was so excited to find them a few yrs ago! They are absolutley great with my 2 big dogs. They do a great job at grooming them and the pricing is great and all inclusive! For $40 they get a bath, completely dried off afterwards, brushed and desheded, their ears cleaned, nails cut, and teeth brushed! My dogs actually like going in there and never seem distressed when I come back to get them. The 2 owners are so sweet and provide the best service. I have called last minute several times and they always seem to be able to squeeze me in. It's both the best pricing and service I have found by far!!! I have used other groomers (Petsmart..yuck, proud pooch...ok, canine clippers...good, and doggie style...horrible), but Doggie Style is my favorite! The shop is small and is not really the prettiest place, but trust me...they are the best! read more

No actual business. Appears to be just a house, not leaving my dog at a random person's house.

Alex is a miracle worker with my dog! She hates being groomed, really she just hates being clean. But Alex manages to get her squeaky clean and he's the only person that can cut her nails without disaster. You and your pet will love him, we do! read more
