First of all, let me just start out by saying that the reviews saying that Kim is anything but welcoming and informative are just... idk, wrong. I'm a frequent shopper (I live right around the corner), so I am always stopping in with my pup (Yosha). Every employee I've intersected with in this shop have been nothing but super helpful and have steered me in healthier directions for my pup, money aside. I feel like I'm always learning something new every time I go in there and it's Yoshas favorite store, so, highly recommend. OH. They also have these really great Icelandic treats for your pup- amazing. A little smelly (I avoid carrying those around in my pocket) but jammed with nutrients and my guy loves them. No weekend getaway is complete without an obligatory visit to one of the local pet boutiques to get something for the spoiled fur baby who was stuck at home because of the gross winter weather. Of course, we prefer when the little one can join us. But either way, BoneJour continues to make us and our little one happy. We have had nothing but great experiences since we first discovered this place (even before moving to Philly). BoneJour has a great food and treat selection, lots of pup apparel, and more. Kim clearly is selective about the items that she brings into her shop. Bijoux (our chihuahua) has become obsessed with some treats that we have only seen here (so much so that we just bought our third bag since moving here at the end of December). She holds out for these and another treat that she is also obsessed with. The obsession started when the nice gentleman working was trying to play w/ her and give her a little treat. Needless to say, other suggestions made by him have also been purchased (and we have not yet been disappointed). It is clear to me that the staff too is full of pet lovers. If you are a pet owner and have not been to BoneJour, I highly recommend it. And I hope that your experience is as positive as ours has been. read more

Convenient Old City location. My dog loves their gourmet treats. Their supply is pretty basic; same things you can purchase at any other dog store, but it's about the convenience of the location. Pricing is about on point as to what you would pay anywhere else. Customer service is very hit or miss. If it's the hired employees, they're all pretty good. I didn't find the owner to be as bad as others have said, but she's definitely not the warm and fuzzy type, which is odd seeing as it's a pet store. I know I expect a little more pleasantness when bringing my pet into an establishment. Overall, not a place to go out of your way to visit, but if you're in the area, definitely worth stopping by. read more

My boyfriend and I just moved to the area from NJ, and [impulsively] picked up our precious puppy, Sunday. Desperate for supplies (and guidance), we walked down our block to BONeJOUR. We are SO happy we did. Judith, despite being the only employee in the store at the time (with many customers coming in and out), was the BEST. She answered all of our questions, offered recommendations and advice, provided us with all of the supplies we needed, and even gave us the name of a [Old City fave] vet to take our new pup to! Side note: we visited the vet yesterday, and he was wonderful!! The store itself is lovely (not overwhelming like regular pet stores) and carries high-quality food, accessories, toys, etc. that I feel I can trust. Still, despite all of the positive aspects of the shop, Judith was the best part. There are other pet stores nearby, but if you are looking for a super-friendly environment and knowledgeable staff, my vote is for BONeJOUR [and Judith]. :) read more

Bonejour is my favorite pet store in Center City! It's no-nonsense and doesn't carry a lot of the silly stuff that your pet really doesn't need but people buy because they think it's cute. The staff are helpful with suggestions without being pushy or preachy. I appreciate that they ask you first if it's OK to give your dog a treat. They carry lots of varieties of high-quality foods and treats, toys, accessories and bowls. If you're looking to adopt a cat, they sometimes have some there in the store. They have a great bulletin board filled with local pet sitters, trainers and events in the area. I love that they sell eco-friendly fleece dog beds made from recycled soda bottles. The beds are machine washable and fit in crates. They also sell dog collars/leashes made of natural hemp (by Earth Dog). When I asked at Doggie Style if they carry hemp leashes, the sales person told me that they had been asked by other customers and that their manager/owner didn't believe them that customers want these more eco-friendly products. So there you have it, if you're into going green, Bonejour can help your furry friends lighten their carbon paw prints. read more

I saw this on the way to grab coffee and had to stop in. Just an FYI THEY SELL CAT STUFF TOO! The associate had expressed trying to make that clear. It's a cute little store. I kind of found my little cat toy that you put on a door handle's (to keep them busy while you are gone) $18.99 price tag was a little pricey but it's Old City and anything for furbaby. I hope we can all learn from this post, especially Noe, who is not accepting responsibility for posing a threat to the animals who come into the store. I had an all around positive experience here with my little doggo, Lloyd. The adorable shop dog hung around all cute and happy while Lloyd and I did our shopping. And then came the cat. The woman behind the counter had an alarmed look on her face when I announced that I had seen the cat. I immediately told her that though I don't anticipate and issues, I don't know how Lloyd is with cats because he has never met one in his time with us. She immediately looked a little nervous and said that the cat "isn't always great with dogs". Ummmm. Is it just me, or am I in a dog shop? Why on Earth would you have an animal loose in a dog store who doesn't get along with dogs? Lloyd froze and stared at the cat (cause he's a wimp and that's what he does when he's scared). The cat's back curled up, it hissed, and it charged at Lloyd. I got between the bully cat and Lloyd and we were both very upset with the interaction. My heart was pounding and Lloyd was definitely distressed. I do not know what would have happened had I not put myself between Lloyd and the cat, but I do now know that the cat has a history of attacking dogs and that the owner is in no way accepting responsibility for this, nor is she doing anything to protect the animals who come into the shop. We bought our toy, said goodbye to the cute shop dog and went on our way thinking that this must have been an isolated incident. But I couldn't stop thinking about it because I was so upset and when I got home I decided to look through the reviews to see if anyone else has had similar experiences, only to find out that the cat attacked a dog in the shop 4 weeks ago. This cat attacked a dog a month ago and is still in the shop. A few weeks later, it hissed and charged my dog. The cat is still in the shop and the owner wrote me a message today basically saying not to come back if I don't like it. Cool, Noe, I definitely won't, but I will also not be quiet and not try to warn other customers that they are endangering their pets by walking in to your store. This is not ok. How many dogs need to get hurt before they take the steps to ensure the safety of the customers and their animals? While I understand based on the shop's response to the injured dog's mom that the cat is a rescue and is working on issues - my little Lloyd is a shelter dog, too - it's not unreasonable to assume that dog boutiques are safe for dogs. You shouldn't worry that there is an animal with a history of violence lurking behind the food aisle. Had I read the other review before I went shopping, I never would have stopped in. Luckily Lloyd wasn't hurt, but the cat is bigger than Lloyd and could have caused seriously injury. Hopefully this will reach more people and we are able to prevent future incidents, or better yet, that the shop removes the combative cat and allows everyone to have a positive and safe shopping experience. Based on her quick and nasty response to both me and the other customer whose dog was attacked, I would say that is not going to happen. Lloyd is NOT the only dog who was put in danger by simply entering BONeJOUR. You and your animals will also be at risk and Noe is placing the value of having the cat in the shop over the value of the safety of our pets. Again, this is not OK. Enter at your own risk, but I certainly don't recommend it. read more

My boyfriend and I love bringing our two dogs here & it's definitely our favorite dog store in the city. We started coming in after a friend started working here and we're so glad that we tried it out. The owner is always super helpful and gets to know each customer to give them a personal experience. The employees always have great suggestions and are all very knowledgeable. They even order our dog food for us in 30 pound bags. The products in the store are also very high quality and worth the little bit of extra money. Our dogs love coming here & we'd probably be in everyday if we lived closer! read more

I bought this MLB shirt for my dog and asked if I would be able to return it if it didn't fit (I was unsure of his size since I had just adopted him) The woman (her name is Faith) said yes. I took it home and put it on my dog and saw that it was way to big on him. I went back to try to return/exchange it for the right size (The woman Faith was there again) and as rude as ever, she told me that it looked worn and that I could not return or exchange it. Mind you, it is in PERFECT brand new condition. It does not look like it's even been touched. I asked to speak to the manager or owner and she was reluctant to even give me that information and informed me "that she would just say the same thing" I will NEVER shop here again. I am now stuck with an over priced $26 shirt that is useless. I would say the worst part was how absolutely rude she was to me. If I could give this negative stars I would. read more

I stopped by Bonejour on a whim on Sunday afternoon when I realized I still needed a gift for my sister's dog, Chubbs. The fluffy-haired kitty in the window knew how to work it when we walked in - she immediately started meowing at us and brushing up against her cage in a very cute way. How someone hasn't taken her home already, I have no idea. She almost had me convinced! Once I broke my gaze I was able to focus on the many toys, treats, outfits (Chubbs has many) and other accessories. I grabbed a couple holiday items and braced myself for the total, which turned out to be very reasonable. The woman working was very helpful in answering questions about whether the things I selected would be appropriate for a small dog. I was even able to get everything gift wrapped in a bag with really cute paw-print tissue paper. One more check on my Christmas list! read more

My dog is the best - but he's a destructive chewing machine. That's why the wonderful people at Premier made the Busy Buddy Squirrel Dude. This purple rubber toy is the only small treat dispenser that keeps him occupied for more than 2 seconds. After 2 years of wear and tear I needed a new squirrel. Doggie Style doesn't carry it anymore, neither do Rittenhouse Pet Supply, Petsmart, Petco, Pet Edge or JB Pets. I wandered into Bonejour and noticed other Premier products, but not the small squirrel. I asked the friendly cashier if they'd be getting any in. She said they'd be happy to place the order for me. Fantastic! One month after I placed the order, I'm the happy owner of 2 (always helpful to have a spare) Busy Buddy Squirrel Dudes, which were reasonably priced at $7.50 each. The store may be small, but Bonejour sure does stock it full of high quality difficult to find toys. A quick price check on treats tells me Bonejour has significant markups for products like Zukes and Dogswell. read more

So fresh and so clean! Took my dog here yesterday for grooming and was totally pleased. He pranced out shimmering in the olde city sunlight, thoroughly rid of his itchy winter undercoat. The girls working there were really kind, friendly, and helpful. They don't crate dogs here, so plan on grabbing a coffee in the area and reading for 45-1hr until yr pup is done. Fine by me! Bone Jour Is my new favorite pet supply store. No other store had my loyalty before, but now, I intend to shop at Bone Jour for all of my pet needs. It's extremely cute, the staff is helpful in a non-pushy way, and they have pretty much any item I would want for my dog and cat. I discovered it while looking for PAWZ. With all of the snow we have been having lately, I was interested in dog booties. Bone Jour is the only store in the area that carries PAWZ. I also needed a new no-pull leash. As I was looking at leashes, the saleswoman informed me that there was an even better one that she just ordered for the store. Based on her recommendation, I purchased the leash and it works wonders. (I actually purchased the wrong size and returning it in exchange for a smaller harness was painless) Of course, I can't just stick to my list, so I purchased some cat grass, several organic treats (which our now considered high value treats in my household), and various other non-essentials. Spent way too much, but as a result, I just received a coupon for 20% off non-food purchases in February. So that's nice. And they carry innova food. What more could you ask for? read more

I really like this cute little store. Actually, it looks deceivingly small, but in fact, they have everything you need inside, including a groomer. The staff is super friendly and knowledgable and they have a great selection of food. I bought the most stylish...dog bowls...I've ever seen there. They look like sleek modern art. Their grooming appointment was quick and thorough and I was happy with the result. The best part of all is that, as a store, they foster dogs! I'm not sure if he's still there, but last time I was in they had a really sweet dog for adoption named Basil. My husband and I visited this pet store for the first time recently as we've adopted two cats and are always looking for local small businesses to support. The young man working there was incredibly friendly and helpful, and asked if we needed any nutrition assistance. We said that we had done extensive amounts of research and our cats were very happy with their high quality food. A few seconds later, he came back with a cellphone and handed it to my husband, saying that his boss wanted to talk to us. We then received a ten minute lecture (rant) from the owner of the store on nutrition when we had clearly stated that we were just fine and were just browsing for a few new toys. We tried multiple times to kindly end the conversation but she would continue to talk over us and talk about how the big pet food companies don't care about your pets and how we as dog owners need to be extra careful (we have cats, as we had told her.) We understand that the owner is quite passionate about animals but it was incredibly off-putting for her to demand to speak with us and lecture us on our pets' nutrition. We were so looking forward to becoming customers at this adorable and well stocked shop, but after the highly inappropriate and uncomfortable phone call, we won't be back. read more

This is for the amazing DIY dog wash in the basement of this tiny pet store in Old City. Really a lifesaver for our stinky dogs, who are impossible to bathe in our tiny little bathroom. The staff was fantastic, the dog basin was very clean, and they had all sorts of shampoos, conditioners, dog brushes, deodorizers, towels, nail clippers and various grooming tools at our disposal. Dare I say the dogs even seemed to enjoy their baths?? I had a Living Social deal, but would gladly pay full price (I believe its $15 a dog) to wash our filthy dogs at Bonejour. I was looking for some gifts for the dogs I love in my life since I'm like the number one pet aunty in Portland. Bonejour! What an adorable name for a shop with even more adorable toys and treats! I loved the toy selection -- everything is organic, completely safe for pets, and cute and/or hilarious and/or punk rockkk. I ended up buying a really tasty looking squeeky cupcake for Jimmy the anxious chihuahua/pom, a miniature squeeky dachshund for Caramel the chill dachshund, and a few bones and tasty treats for Stella and Zelda. Every dog that got some love from me loved that shizzzzz. Of course they would, this is some quality stuff! Also! Bonejour had some really awesome DIY dog outfits and bandanas THAT I WOULD INSTANTLY PUT ON ANY PUPPY, but unfortunately, all the dogs I know don't wear clothes. The staff are great and know their products really well. And super nice and rad! So much more personable than a big box pet store. Since the shop is small, the products are really specialized, but they're guaranteed to be the best. read more

Cute little shop in an historic Old City building on charming N. 3rd St. I didn't check prices on goods, because we were there for the groomer. Jen was my dog's groomer, and she did an excellent job on his shedless treatment, and he's a 90 lb. German Shepherd, so I know he was work. Of course, he had his bath on Saturday, and last night rubbed his face all over a pile of deer poop in Fairmount Park, so we'll probably be going back to Bonejour very shortly. Blech! read more

BoneJour is one of my favorite small businesses in the city. We shop here for our pit's food, treats, toys and dog bags, and also have given him the a bath at the DIY dog wash. Noe and the crew are the nicest people, and are always happy to answer any questions we have. Customer service is their priority, as they are happy to order something for you if it isn't carried in the store, offer delivery for heavy dog food, and if you bring in your pup he gets a treat and a pat! We've also bought a dog coat, collar and custom name tag, all which were better priced then other pet shops, online or local. BoneJour often has promotions on treats and offer specials for frequent shoppers. They care about the quality of the products they offer, and carry food and treat brands that are good for your pet. The DIY dog wash was really great because our dog hates taking a bath, so it made the whole experience easier on him and us, and plus, no clean up! read more

Just because someone cannot afford your high prices and chooses to shop online, doesn't equate YOU being so bitchy and rude to me. She actually told me to leave the store. What kind of business owner does that???? She tried to make me feel bad and guilty for not coming in for a while but in all honesty I just can't afford to. It's nothing personal however she makes it that way to the point where I'm no longer comfortable going into her store. Sorry but you lost me as a customer! This review is based on the cat supplies only. My cat is obsessed with the multicolor pompom balls with crinkly strips in them. We seriously purchase 10 of them at a time from BONeJOUR (and where they disappear to in our tiny apartment we will never know....there is a rabbit hole somewhere!). This is fine though because they are super cheap! BONeJOUR has a wide variety of cat toys and we've purchased a number of them for our cat. They also have rubber litter pads which everyone should have for underneath their litter box- it really helps keep the litter confined to the litter box corner. The prices are reasonable- we're talking about a boutique in Old City here so I'm not expecting bargain basement prices. When you want to surprise your cat with a new toy there is no reason not to stop by. And they are always fostering a cat from PAWS which is so cute! read more

There is no other place to shop in Old City, or all of Philadelphia for that matter! Leslie and the gang are amazing. The store always looks so nice and is really stocked! I have some pretty picky tastes for my pet's food and treats. I can get everything I need for optimum health and well-being for my guys. The variety is FANTASTIC! Nice store with an unfortunately unpleasant owner. I live in the neighborhood and would occasionally stop by to browse for dog toys and supplies. They do have a nice selection and all employees have been helpful and friendly. However, I have on numerous occasions witnessed the owner fly off the handle at both her employees and customers alike. I have seen her berate customers to the point they leave the store. I am not sure why this behavior is continued when people are clearly uncomfortable and turned off. She is also very aggressive about pushing their food,to the point of being insulting, despite me telling her numerous times that my dog is on a food recommended by a vet and I am not interesting in changing. I can only imagine the abuse that her employees have to deal with if this is the way she will treat people who's business she is trying to win. My advice is to steer far clear of this store, for your and your dog's safety. (PS just read her replies to other reviews on here to get a little flavor of how completely bonkers she is.
