I've been having a really difficult time finding my cat's flavor of food he eats. I called this location on Washington Ave to see if they had it and was told they couldn't check due to being short on staff. I understood if they couldn't check right then, but no offer to check and call me back later either. He just said he couldn't check and that's it. Zero stars for Washington Avenue Petsmart I would stay away from this grooming salon if I were you for the sake of your pup's health and your peace of mind. This place is dangerous. I had my pup's haircut done by the new salon manager ** who I was told was "terminated." She treated me so badly and didn't have any respect whatsoever for my beautiful pup. She used the wrong blade on my baby so her pink skin was showing on her spine. My baby came back to me looking like a chicken, with her hair on her legs and her feet cut so short it was criminal. This insane woman screamed at me in front of everyone while I was sitting and waiting, told me to stay put where I was and not to look in the glass window because it made her nervous. She found a little poop, on my baby's beautiful long tail and DAMN cut a chunk of hair off the tail with a teeny bit of poop on it? She took off the thickness of her ears because "SHE wanted to!!" I told her leave the ears alone and to leave the tail alone! We discussed the what blade she would use and how I wanted her hair cut before she grabbed my baby to take her back to the table. I was told she used a #4 and not a #5. This salon manager groomer was so foul and disgusting, it shocks me to know that someone so disrespectful of animals and people could be hired at a pet salon. I called Petsmart Corporate and complained, though it was two months later and my pup's hair on the spine grew 1/2 inch. The store manager called me back, told me that this groomer and the manager who hired her were terminated from Petsmart. She supposedly did something to another customer, but I was not told anything else. The store manager said he would call me back to reimburse the money I spent, but never did. But to me, seeing my dog flinch because of a #4 blade against her side hurt her while this groomer wasn't even paying attention, makes me so angry. I was told never to go to a Petsmart and I feel guilty that my pup and I were subjected to this maniacal behavior by a groomer. My fault. Never again. Stay away from this place. I thank god that my baby didn't get really hurt by this monster who should not be working with animals or people. Who knows who they'll hire next! read more

My roommate and I bought a tank and fish from this location. This was our first time having fish and we asked a lot of questions and told the associate to tell us anything we needed to know. He showed us a tank and we picked out two glo fish. We left that day saying we felt informed and prepared. The next day both fish had died. When we went back and asked a different associate, he said we should have let the water in the tank run for 24 hours. We were not told that, and we were upset that the first associate let us buy fish that same day and had made no mention of letting the tank run for 24 hours when he knew that we were first time fish owners and were nervous. We changed the water, ran the tank for 24 hours, and returned to buy two more glo fish. Within 48 hours, both fish died. We returned to the store and told by a third associate that the tank should be run for at least a week before introducing fish. They tested the water we had brought and said that it was too toxic. My roommate and I were upset again that we had asked so many questions, done everything right according to the previous associate, and ended up killing them all due to the negligence of the associates. I recommend YouTube if you want to feel informed and a smaller pet store that knows more about the fishes needs. They have so many fish crammed into the tanks and it's very sad to see all the ones that have passed away. read more

Ok. So... ...Last year, I purchased fish at PetSmart at 23rd and Oregon. About a week later, they died as well as some resident fish. The PS fish were so sick and infected my tank. Whatever disease they had killed our 8 year old, 2 foot pleco. I was furious. Shortly thereafter, I then adopted a pleco from a friend along with two frogs. A few months ago, I was at this PS. I wanted fish. I normally go to the Aquarium Center in NJ. But, it's a bit of a drive. The water looked clear at this PS. I had a chat with the fish care manager about how their water quality is. I told her that the fish from 23rd St killed my pleco. She reassured me that they test the water daily. The water did look clear. She also said that she has heard so many negative things about the fish sold from 23rd St. So, I bought a few fish from this location. Everyone survived. I gained some confidence and purchased more. Last month, I bought two tetras. About a week later, they died. Slowly, my resident fish started dying. The other day, a frog died. I started to get concerned. That same night, I noticed that pleco's eyes were cloudy. His tail and fin looked chewed up. He had white spots all over. I immediately treated the tank with ick medicine. I did NOT want this pleco to die. I went back to Washington Avenue the other day to buy more medicine. I did inform the manager that the fish I bought were sick. She said that they would check the water and reimbursed me for those two tetras. I treated the tank nightly. But, this morning I woke up to a deceased pleco. I'm FURIOUS. I will NEVER, EVER buy another fish from PetSmart again. They killed my two plecos, frog and other fish. NEVER again!!! , PetSmart! Aquarium Center it is from now on. It may be a bit of a hike, but at least they take very good care of their fish. read more

TLDR: Went to Petsmart, bought my pet turtle some "friends" (little fish) for his tank. He murdered one in cold blood and stalked the other two like a rabid puma in a chicken coup. I rescued the fish and asked PetSmart if I could take them back, just to save their lives. PetSmart insisted on refunding me for the two returned fish AND the dead one!!! Long form.... We just upgraded Waldo from his ten gallon starter tank to a badass huge tank w canister filter, hand collected river rocks, luxurious basking platform, and so on. Inspired by several you tubers, I got Waldo some "friends" (two tetra fish and a pleco) and a few underwater plants. Waldo is pretty much a lazy fucker. He dances for me at feeding time. And will occasionally dance if I'm working out in the living room. But otherwise, he's a fairly docile little guy. Anyway... upon meeting his new friends, he went fucking wild! He was chasing them vigorously. They found they could nearly hide between the heater and the glass or between the filter tubes and the glass, but Waldo was ruthless. He ate one of the tetras within 3 minutes. It was like the shark scene in the little mermaid. On the drive home from PetSmart, I was okay w the potential of these three, rather inexpensive, fish dying instantly, but by the time they were in the tank escaping the bloodbath, I felt very responsible for their lives. I promptly removed the (now well fed) turtle from the tank and had my wife babysit him while I fished the remaining fish out of the tank. To my wife, "watching" Waldo meant getting herself, Waldo, and our dog into a selfie. Somehow this led to Bella (the dog) getting bit! I got the fish out. Got them safely in a Tupperware, got Waldo back in his tank, and took off to PetSmart, hoping they'd be put back in the safety of professionals. Surprisingly, PetSmart refunded all the fish (even the dead on!!). Yay customer service. When I got home, he'd eaten all of his plants! Fucking asshole turtle. Anyway, I'm now slightly proud, slightly scared, very intrigued by my game of thrones level turtle. On an unrelated note. Two trips to PetSmart in one day has sparked an interest in parakeets! Since the manager left two years ago the attitude has gotten progressively worse employees are short snippy and not customer focused, except for one. Stay away from the salon and the managers they're essentially useless and don't know how to talk to people. You need help with fish see Emily she's the best. Otherwise buy what you need and the hell out. There are lovely mom and pop groomers in South philly who would love to have your business. This crew couldnt care less. read more

I assume all the groomers at the Philadelphia Washington Square location are talented. The groomer who has been grooming our dogs is Christy. We've been requesting Christy for years. She is professional and knowledgeable. I trust her to know what's best for our dog. We had a Yorkipoo from a puppy (Boogie) and she used to groom him. He always looked great. We have a miniature American Eskimo from a puppy aka German Spitz (Lola) and they can be trickier to groom correctly according to professional standards that make dogs with a double coat very different from others. Christy is absolutely on point with knowing all about the Spitz breeds of dog and the standard of grooming for them as per professional grooming standards. She gives clients details about the process. Lola always comes out of there looking absolutely beautiful and perky, with her long hair full and coat just as it should be for her breed. Christy is gifted at doing what she does. read more

I took my dog here for her first haircut. She was afraid, but the women gave her a partial haircut trim (no nails, no clippers) and then sold me on buying a two additional packages saying that if I bring her there consistently she would get better. Flash forward a month later I bring her back for a second haircut and got a different groomer. This woman was rude, telling my my dog was "difficult" and tried to charge me a $10 fee for handling a difficult dog. And she still was not able to clip her nails! Paying more for less service because my dog is a baby and afraid. This is a far cry from the grooming manager who sold me on "keep bringing her to us and we will work with her". The on duty manager was very kind and refunded us for our pre purchased packages so that we can find another groomer. In fact, everyone at this location has been great except for the woman who groomed our dog Bella on April 30th 2021. Because of her, we will not be back to this location ever for any reason. BEWARE: If you have a young dog who has never been groomed, or a dog who is scared or inexperienced with grooming, this is not the location for you. read more

I booked an appointment through phone and I called the day of to give the groomer a very detailed description of how I wanted my dog groomed and when he came home I was very unsatisfied. I then called up to the salon and was given the run round just to have the owner call me a week and a half later with no solution and just a "find a suitable groomer". Not to mention they charged an extra fee for behavior. I feel like if you if you knew you couldn't do what I asked and if my dog was too difficult then I should have received a call to come get my dog. I would have been fine with that but $85 dollars when I am unsatisfied and no type of remorse or credit towards the next is absurd! I will never be back !! read more

Being a new dog owner can be rewarding but equally stressful. When my partner and I heard a Petsmart was opening in our building, we were excited for the convenience. However, after going back and forth multiple trips for every doggy issue imaginable (paw cuts to anxiety to Christmas stocking shopping) we have had not only the most friendly but also knowledgeable staff along the way. In particular, Tran treats our dog like he is one of her own. She goes above and beyond each visit to ensure we are making the best choices for our loving but challenging rescue pup. I've been to Petsmarts before, but there is something special about the staff at this location. They are pet experts who share the same love for their own pets with ours. The manager of the doggy day care, Christi is rude and mean. We have bringing our dog there for over 6 months. Today she screamed that we needed reservations to bring our dog in and when I told her we had already made a reservation for every day this week she screamed that we had not. She is loud was screaming and upset our dog as well. My 17 year old daughter has been picking our dog up for many months now and for the first time this morning Christi screamed that she has to be 18 to pick up the dog and they won't let her anymore including today. Suggestion Christi- not a good way to treat customers. They do have a number of very sweet people such as Jose, Sam and Julia working with the dogs in the day care but unless you want to deal with screaming rude management I would not patronize this business. read more

I told them my cat has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and will only eat cheese flavor food. Not only were they empathetic but helped me find a huge variety. I took my toy poodle for a grooming to PetSmart at 15th Street and Washington. The store is otherwise excellent, so I thought it would be fine to have my pup groomed there. The situation was such a disaster that I will never be back nor would I recommend it for anyone who is concerned with traumatizing their dogs. The scene was chaotic, with nervous and anxious dogs kenneled for hours waiting for their appointments regardless of the time that was set. My appointment was for 9 am. I asked when to expect to pick up my dog and was told that it would be 4-5 hours. That should have been my first clue. When the groomer asked what I wanted, I explained that I wanted the dog to keep the teddy bear look, and be trimmed about an inch. When I came to retrieve the pub, I was appalled but couldn't say anything at the time because the dog was so nervous to get out of there I bolted from PetSmart. Aside from their price (I was charged more than $80!) before they would give me the pup, the grooming was a hatchet job. My pup was patchy from incompetence. Bald spots on her rear and legs, and her face. The hair was shorn to a half inch. The teddy bear look was gone and she now looks like a drowned rat. When I took the pup home, she started vomiting and had diarrhea all night, with a loss of appetite. I am so appalled that PetSmart would have such incompetent groomers. I was so concerned about the pup's health I almost took her to the emergency department. Fortunately, she is better now, and hair will grow back but what won't change is my opinion of not only poor service, but cruel service. If you love your dog, don't EVER take it to PetSmart for grooming. read more
