i came to fishtown to try something new for my pup... i scheduled an appointment over 2 weeks ago. my appointment was then canceled and i was forced to reschedule. i came in and drop my dog off today at his rescheduled time which was 1pm. he is a very small dog so he doesn't require much time. i was never give a time for pick up. i called them after wait 2 hours and they still never gave me a pick up time until i started pressing the employee for one. she came back on the line and told me it would be another 2 and half hours. for a small poodle/Pomeranian mix to be with a groomer for 4+ hours is insane. i was then connected to the store owner who was very rude and disrespectful. i told her what happen and she then decided to tell me that they are training another groomer which is why they are taking long as well as juggling other dog. from what i have learned about ham + bone fishtown is that they overbook dogs which takes longer for them to actually get groomed. they had one groomer downstairs when i went to talk to her with one in training. i told her this isn't the first time this has happened from other reviews i have read and after calling her out on the issue said "i'm not going to let you slander my business" and hung up the phone on me. terrible place, don't waste your money or your time here. very unprofessional behavior coming from a store owner! she also demanded that i come pick up my dog in the condition he is in currently which is not groomed! he got in my car with a wet butt and head. this resulted in wet poop getting on my car. read more

My elderly dog had vestibular disease and her recovery was fairly long and difficult. It's aged her quite a bit and she has a permanent head tilt now. Because of all this she hasn't been in good enough shape to get to the groomers in a long time. My friend recommended Ham + Bone to me so I booked an appointment with the lovely Jen. I was really nervous about her first grooming session in such a long time but Jen put me and my dog at ease upon our first meeting. My dog is always super standoffish and doesn't usually let people pet or carry her. I'm used to seeing her being literally dragged away from me when I drop her off at the vet or groomers so I prepared myself for that sad experience when I brought her to Ham + Bone. Jen gently approached my dog and swept her up into her arms and there my dog laid like a content little baby that has found her new grooming mama. Jen dog whispered my dog. I was instantly relieved. She assured me that my dog was in good hands and they'd let me know as soon as my dog was ready for pickup. I waited eagerly nearby in the neighborhood the whole time when I got a thoughtful text from Jen letting me know she took extra care to make my dog comfortable and that she'd be ready for pickup soon. Jen emerged with with my dog chilling on her arms looking so comfortable and relaxed like she'd been to the spa. My dog looked the best she has this whole year. I'm so happy about my experience at Ham + Bone and lucky to have found a groomer as wonderful and caring as Jen. There was a decent amount of street parking when I went on a Tuesday afternoon. The cute little shop sells high quality treats, food, and accessories. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for an awesome grooming experience for you beloved pet. read more

It's a cute store selling pet treats and other products. I went there to buy treats for my puppy's 6 month birthday. They have a lot of options but it felt overpriced. It's cheaper to buy stuff from chewy. They do have a yelp check in discount so make sure you use it when you go there. We haven't tried their grooming yet so I'll probably update this review once we have had a chance to try the grooming facilities. read more

I really hate to write a less than positive review for Ham + Bone because I've taken my dog here at least three times and have always been really happy with his cut & the super friendly girls that work there. This review has nothing to do with the groomer who is really great at her job. Unfortunately, my experience yesterday was really upsettting. First of all, my dog is a rescue, he's super nervous and absolutely hates getting baths/haircuts, so I always like to speak with the groomer in advance to let them know. Also, he's been shaved down by other groomers and he has a wiry coat that I really don't want ruined again. Yesterday, I asked to speak with the groomer --I didn't think this was an out of the ordinary request. I was told the groomer would be out in 10 minutes, so I figured I'd just wait so that I could quickly talk to her. I really wasn't trying to be a pain, I've just had bad experiences in the past. I'm paying a decent amount of money, and I'd like to know who I'm leaving my dog with/explain what I want done. The girl at the front desk (clearly annoyed that I'm still there) accidentally texts me a complaint (about me) that she meant to send to the groomer. I didn't say anything because I still had to leave Riley there but I was nervous the entire time and felt really shitty. The icing on the cake was when I went to pick him up and pay, he was trying to reach a water bowl that was too far away from him and nobody was paying attention. It was around 90 degrees yesterday. I don't think I'll be coming back, I was really disappointed and also hurt by what happened yesterday. Leaving 2 stars because the cut was still awesome as always. read more

I have been taking my dog for grooming here for the past year and a half. While they do an amazing job at grooming sadly I will not be returning due to poor customer service. I scheduled a groom for my dog a month ago and when I brought him in for his appointment I was told his appointment was canceled. This was after I confirmed his appointment the day prior. I did not receive a phone call informing me that his appointment was canceled and appointments are always booked about a month out. Once inside I was greeted my a woman named Kerace. I explained to her my situation and she let me know the next availability wouldn't be until a month from now. I asked to speak with the owner and she let me know the owner would reach out to me the next day (I still haven't received a phone call). I then asked if I could speak to another employee to get a second opinion on possibly having my dog get seen that day possibly at a later time. When I mentioned this Keraces' entire mood changed and she told me "I was being demanding and not taking no for an answer". This was the first time I've been disrespected at Ham and Bone and because of this incident I will have to find another salon. read more

Took our dog biscuit here for the first time and were left very unsatisfied.We asked for a standard poodle cut with fluffy legs, short body, paw shaved.(which is what she currently had, we just wanted it re touched. We never spoke to the groomer about what we wanted, only to the cashier. When we revived her she was completely shaved down. I do know that sometimes when they are matted their is only so much you can do, but she was not matted at all since she was regularly groomed every 2 weeks. I took her here due to the good reviews and was okay with the price (which is high) if we were getting quality, but I would not have paid / brought her here if I knew they were just going to shave her down. read more

Amy and Hannah are wizards. I was really nervous for my dog to get groomed since the first time he was groomed, it was a bad experience (this was his second time). He was timid and nervous throughout the entire first grooming - even after getting traozodone per the Vet. So this time around, I wanted to be sure he was in good hands. Thank goodness Hannah and Amy were there to help when I showed up with my dog for our appointment. They assured me that he would be okay and they kept me updated on his progress throughout the time I was away from him (via text). I took my dog here for a couple of groomings, and the first few seemed to have gone well. However on the last time around, the groomer was downstairs clearly agitated with another dog being groomed and screaming at the top of her lungs at the dog. I was horrified, and thought for a second that must be a pet owner instead. But no, it was the groomer. Between that incident and another where my dog came home traumatized by something that happened there, I stopped going to Ham and Bone. Its taken me a while to write this, but I would also say that the store is great and the front desk seem to be nice, though the service varies from person to person. We havent gone back since the screaming incident. I realize that sometimes a firm voice is required, but I can assure you thats not what happened. I dont know what else to say. read more

Leaving a review of Ham & Bone for Jen's caring, patient, and skilled grooming services, as well as Amy's shop overall. Amy is very helpful and knowledgable. Our rescue pup, a shih-tzu mix, has an unpredictable nature. He won't let us touch his ears, but he lies down for Jen for his grooming. He looks and smells so wonderful when we pick him up, and has a fun time while he is there (about 6 times so far). Amy is communicative about the process & has been flexible with his pick-up time. It's taken me a while to write this because I generally don't like to write reviews, good or bad. However, I have to say how disappointed I am in the customer service that I received when I called to ask about my dog's bath appointment. She's a shiba inu whose tail is always up and curled unless she is stressed or if the tail gets injured. When she was picked up from her appointment her tail was not normal. It was hanging down and we assumed she was just a little frightened from her bath considering it was her first bath outside of home. Two days had passed and it was still hanging down and she even jerked when it was touched as if she was in pain. I called and spoke to Amy, who bathed her, and asked if something might have happened and she insisted that nothing went wrong. She reassured me she would look at the video footage and call me back but she never did. After a week passed my dog's tail was finally back to normal but the fact that Amy never followed up with us just doesn't sit well with me. I wanted to forget about this but now after having read the other negative reviews specifically about grooming experiences, I felt the need to share our experience. I will always wonder what happened during my dog's bath that caused her tail to be like that. I will always wonder what stressed her out that much or if her tail was hurt by inappropriate handling of it. It's a shame because I really wanted to like Ham&Bone. Two stars because I actually think the store is quite nice and offers some nice products. However, I won't be coming here again for products or services of any kind after that experience. read more

We got a rescue pup recently and were anxious about giving him his first bath so we took him to ham and bone. Scheduling process was easy. They cleaned his ears, brushed his teeth, deshedded him and made him sparkling clean. We weren't sure how he was going to react and he left H&B in such great spirits. I really hate to leave bad reviews but here I am.. Please note that have experience dealing with other groomers and this by far was the worst. I made an appointment over the phone, was never asked if he had all of his shots or was asked to bring in any kind of records/paperwork. I volunteered the information and let them know he had all of his shots and was 4 months old. I checked in, the groomer came up to talk to me. I explained to the groomer what I wanted done, she assured me that she would be able to execute the haircut I desired. I was looking for a "teddy cut" maybe an hour later, I get a phone call saying he's ready, I was surprised he was ready so quick, my other dog usually takes a couple of hours. So I head over to pick him up and when I arrive he looks exactly the same if not worse. He was super anxious (which is kind of expected being that he's a puppy and this was his first haircut) They complained that he was crying the entire time.. HE'S A PUPPY. At this point I'm so annoyed. I just pay and leave. His head looks like he has a mullet. They only trimmed around his eyes. His body is uneven. They didn't trim his paws or his butt. Very disappointing, they have such great reviews but my dog looks crazy. read more

When I explained to Amy that my dog was a picky eater she gave some great recommendations and sent me home with a ton of food samples to try. Their accessories are super fashionable and unlike anything you can find at the mainstream pet stores. I've brought my dog here twice for grooming and both times he came back looking extremely clean and exactly how I described I wanted. When I told them he had itchy skin they were able to give him a medicated shampoo. I appreciate such great customer service! read more

I will give credit where credit is due. The owner was so nice on the phone and answered all of my questions in details about how they groom the dogs and if they put them in crates or not. The two ladies were very nice when I dropped off my dogs, I went over what I wanted with the groomer and quickly they were done. My long haired dog had a botched haircut. 1. The groomer claimed there was a mat on the end of the tail (I know there wasn't because I brushed her before the appointment) and chopped off chunks (uneven) of her beautiful tail. You would think she would even it out. 2. She was shaved SO short, I asked for half of her hair to stay but she took off WAY more than half. And the shaving is uneven and looks really bad. 3. She has razored in areas behind her ears and looks like she coughed while cutting or shaving or whatever she was doing. 4. I asked they to keep my dogs together while they were being groomed due to their anxiety and they said yes, but I come to find out that one do was waiting up stairs while the other was getting done and having a lot of anxiety the whole time. They gave me 30$ back out of 130$ and I am still so upset about this. At least my dogs were not physically hurt in anyway, emotionally though, they were. read more

Just moved to the area mid-summer time and recently adopted a puppy. Found this place within walking distance of my apartment. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of products ranging from food, treats, clothing, and grooming stuff. Everything is pretty reasonably priced and it is super convenient to just walk here whenever I need something! I have not tried any of the services yet but they do offer grooming and other things. Definitely will look into that when need be. read more
