I can only speak on the country fried steak... i cant get past it, this is as perfect as you can get when it comes to the tenderness and gravy taste, as usual come a little early as parking fills up very fast... and for good reason, great little place and great food. Went here yesterday to pick up dinner, meatloaf, green beans and turnip greens. I wish I would've taken a picture. The meatloaf was hard around the edges so I had to pull the meat out of the middle for my daughter. It didn't really taste like meatloaf and we had a bay leaf in our plate ‍. The turnip greens and green beans were ok. The cornbread muffin was a bit dry. Normally Paw Paw Patch is really good,but maybe the just had an off day. We've tried a few other Meat n 3s in the area but keep returning here since they are reasonably priced, good quality, and adequate servings. And I must say the staff is thoughtful and kind. This was a really pleasant surprise. Fairly large place with cafeteria style set up. Three of us went for lunch and we all liked what we had. I had the grilled chicken and rice since I was looking for something not too heavy for lunch. The chicken was so tasty. I ate it all! I had sweet potatoes for a side. They were like dessert!! So good. My friend had the roast beef which she said was great and my husband had the chicken fried steak. He loved it. A waitress gets your drinks and brings your check and even though she didn't do much, she was really nice and made us feel like regulars. Try this place for great eats. If you are looking for good home cooking, this is a good choice. I had the 4 vegetable plate-- macaroni and cheese, squash casserole, fried green tomatoes, black eyed peas, and Mexican cornbread. Sometimes I have a hankering for a meat and three plate. I endured Greenspring traffic after work to get to this place. The nice thing is that they have a drive-thru that is fairly quickly to get through. Thursday's special was turkey and dressing. Yes, it's a week before Thanksgiving, and come next Friday I'll be sick of eating Turkey for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but I felt it appropriate to start getting in the festive mood. The dressing was nicely seasoned, and the cranberry sauce (completely forgot about that!) was served in a container to the side. Thanks! I got turnip greens and squash casserole. You go in, grab your utensils and your tray, dessert if you want it, then proceed to the meat section. There are usually about 5 or 6 choices, with one or 2 being the special of the day. Next are the veggies. The fried green tomatoes are some of the best in town. Always crisp and fried just right. Yummy. Make sure you check the website for their daily specials. What keeps it from getting my 5 stars is the food cools kinda quick. It's like you eat two warm bites then it's cold. I think it's because the inside of the place is usually freezing. Not sure. But it still doesn't take away from the freshness and overall yumminess of the food. Plus you don't go broke eating here, which nowadays is always a plus! read more

This was my first time in years eating lunch here. The restaurant was clean and the staff was great. The menu was cafeteria style a lot of options to choose from. The food was soooooo bland everything taste like it came straight out of the can. I had to keep adding salt to give the food some type of flavor and I hate to add salt. If you like your food bland with no flavor this a great place for you. I did not enjoy my meal. The good thing is the prices were okay. read more

I wanted to experience some Southern soul food and a friend recommended Paw Paw Patch. There were 3 groups of families exiting the restaurant as I was pulling in so I had high expectations. Unfortunately as I walked in, it had a canteen/school cafeteria setup. The food was part of southern faire but was dry and uninspiring. It was just sitting under the heat lamp and the staff was unhelpful in restocking (fresh) food and/or explaining how to order. This place is great. I wasn't really sure what to do when I walked in, and the ladies there started picking on me. You get your food and go sit where you want. A Lady walked up to me and said how are you going to eat? I realized I did not have any silverware so I got up to go get some, she shoved me back down in my seat and told me stay put with a bossy look in her eye. I gave a 5 Star rating comparing Paw Paw Patch with other 'MEAT AND THREE" type restaurants. The food is very good. I'm partial to their hamburger steaks. Their veggies are always good. It is a great Southern custom that mac and cheese is counted as a vegetable. PPP's is excellent. All around it is a very pleasant place to go. If you go often, the staff gets to know you down to what kind of tea and what, if any additives you might like.. Before the pandemic we went with a "party of three.". If one of us was gone, it was routine that that person was asked about. I am going back this evening for the first time in 2+ years and I can't wait. read more

Ester that was serving was rude to my friend and me. She tried to serve us a scrap piece of meatloaf. When we asked for a different piece she got mad. She said she had to sell it to someone. She is new, older employees take two small pieces and serve together. When we sat down the waitress heard us talking. She said life is too short, to get over it. Rude to customers. As you can see from my prior review and rating I really like this place. Tonight's dinner was extremely disappointing. What was more disappointing was managements response. I'm at St. Vincent's tonight. My wife had to have surgery. It wasn't emergency surgery, but they did not waste any time in scheduling it immediately. She finally snapped out of the sedative/morphine haze and said she was really hungry but needed something soft. I scanned menus in the surrounding area and well paw paw patch happened to have one of her favs this evening chicken n dumplings. Done I'll drive. I run through the drive thru and place our orders. For her the aforementioned chicken n dumplings, squash casserole, Mac and cheese w a roll and an order of peach cobbler. I went with the grilled chicken and rice with okra, Mac and cheese and their awesome Mexican cornbread. The young woman at the window could not have been nicer. Very polite and friendly. She checked our order took the appropriate action to correct a mistake explained it all to me and apologized for the delay... what? Who does that anymore kudos to that girl. My wife's food was a huge portion. It was way more than she could eat but it was hot a good variety and soft. She loved the dumplings and the cobbler. My meal on the other had was hugely disappointing. The Mac and okra were spot on as normal the Mexican corn bread tasted awesome what I got of it. I had the ugly piece they barely got out of the pan. It was a small crumbled pile. It shouldn't have been served. The grilled chicken and rice wasn't much more than a single small chicken finger and a teaspoon of rice. The rice was cold and old and the chicken was not very good either. I never do this but my wife insisted I call and voice my disappoint. So I call. I ask for the manager. I think his name was John. The manager answers I explain first and foremost how awesome the lady in the drive thru was. I further explained that I love this place and that I've been dining here for years. I then proceed to my problem. I say that my meal was not up to the standard I've come to expect. I explain that I received a single chicken finger and a teaspoon of rice. He immediately said well the rice is more of a garnish... with chicken and rice? He then says all of our chicken and rice meals are served with 4 oz -6 oz of chicken. I explain I received more like 1- 2 oz portion. He immediately suggests I'm exaggeration and huffs and says well how about if I just buy you a chicken meal when you come back. Not once did he apologize or acknowledge the misstep. He tried to talk over me the whole time. Then annoyed or frustrated he just threw out a well I'll buy you one in a will that shut you up type tone. I said actually no it will not work for me... instead I'll make sure everyone I can reach out to knows how management handles these type situations. I was polite I wasn't hostile. I complimented the place 3 times in 3 different ways before explaining my disappointment. Had he listened and apologized I would have accepted and moved on. The managers lack of an interpersonal skill set drops their rating significantly in my book. Had he been half way decent to me I would have likely accepted this situation as an anomaly and not reported it. Given the manager rather elected to patronize me and assume I was seeking a free meal I feel compelled to report inadequate management. The manager could learn a few things from the lady working the drive thru serving customers. read more
