Possibly the best smoked pork ribs I have ever eaten. Nothing fancy but worth stopping by when we are in the area.

We were driving through Arthur after a basketball game and stopped to grab something to eat on our way home. I had the brisket burger with the onions rings on it (can't remember what it was called). Delicious and so much food. Husband had a pick 3 platter and kept saying how good it was. We're an hour an half away from Arthur and it's a bummer we aren't there more often bc we would definitely stop in frequently! This bbq joint really hit the spot! The seating area isn't the biggest, but they do have plenty of tables to seat yourself. We hit it right at lunch time and the place was packed. Even though they were busy our waitress was friendly and took care of us throughout our time there. I ordered the bourbon tenderloin with macaroni and cheese. They take French fry cut potatoes, add green peppers, onion, and bacon, and then stir in butter. Then heat up in an oven....just okay. My wife ordered pulled pork platter. Enough meat for 2 meals. This was one of the gems of Arthur Illinois. I was so utterly blown away by this place - from the chicken to the brisket, to the mac/n/cheese. just stunning dance of flavors across your taste buds. While my father had perfectly seasoned, slow-smoked brisket, I had a salad with chicken. I've never tasted chicken that well done - perfectly balanced with flavor and moisture, thoroughly smoked but not dry. Just amazing. Had with honey mustard dressing, I just could not stop eating despite being completely full. Heard great things about Pauly's and decided to try it out with my wife. Tried the pick 2 platter, so chose pulled pork and ribs. Maybe it was an off day, but the pulled pork was more on the dry side, which should be moist. Also the ribs were kinda dry as well, was hoping for juicy and tender meat. The fried okra was mediocre, was served lukewarm. Coleslaw was ok, little on the creamy side for my taste. Sauces though were good. Overall would rate 3.5. read more

Disappointed in the food. Very dry. Portions were small. I have no idea who was cooking tonight but they were new, or they just don't care about the customer. I don't think I'll be back. Waitress argued with my friend about how done his food was. She wasn't mean, just didn't believe my friend at all. They have the normal fixins such as chicken, ribs, sausage etc. They also have brisket but only at special times or days. Be sure to get the brisket if they are offering it! I also strongly suggest you try the fried mushrooms. They are probably in my top ten of best fried mushrooms I've ever had. You get a lot too! Ate here on a very busy Saturday evening with a party of 6. It seems to be a very popular restaurant with locals. We orders a couple of kids meals and platters for the rest of us. We had high hopes for the food but sadly it was mixed. Half of our dinners were very good (brisket and smoked sausage were great; kids cheeseburger was a hit, and the corn bread was deemed yummy). Those of us who ordered ribs were a bit disappointed as they were very dry even slathered in sauce. The baked beans and Mac & cheese were ok but not great. And, the restaurant was so busy that staff didn't really have time to clean the tables properly in between guests which meant that our table was a bit messy and we had to watch where we put our feet on the floor as the prior diners had left a lot of max & cheese on the floor. Been wanting to try this place for awhile and was going thru town for my daughters softball tournament and decided to stop. After about 10 minutes they finally come take our drink and food order. I got the pulled pork and it was really dry. I couldn't even finish my sandwich. My daughter got the smoked Turkey and it was really dry as well. The service was just as bad as the food for only being a couple people in there besides us and 6 people working. I don't see how this place is rated #6 in Illinois for best bbq. Me and my husband stopped in for lunch, we both had the pulled pork sandwich. He had baked beans and fries as a side which he said was very good. He also had Pauly's Hot BBQ sauce on his sandwich which he said was hot. If you put enough on your sandwich your eyes and nose will water. I had the original BBQ sauce, which was good for me. I also had the hobo potatoes as my side which was cubed potatoes and said it came with bacon, onion and peppers but mine was just potatoes. Because of this I'm rating it as a 4 instead of 5. Would stop again when coming thru town, service was good, did need a fly swatter. read more

We've eaten at Paulys's, had their food truck and most recently used their catering service. The food was excellent! We had the melt in your mouth brisket and the fried chicken. Dear Hubby and I were shopping around Arthur, and decided to try Pauly's BBQ. We had heard some good things about it, and decided to find out for ourselves. It was wonderful! One of the Saturday specials was BBQ Brisket, which we both ordered. It was very flavorful, juicy and tender. The sandwiches had two thick slabs of meat on them - - very filling! The fries were steak fries, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. One thing we will do different next time is not go right at lunchtime! It is a very small place (it used to be a dairy bar, so it's very small). We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but once we got seated our waitress was right there taking care of us. Wow! What an amazing place. Truly the best hidden gem I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot. Thursday is wing day which is my favorite BBQ these days and this place knocked them out of the park. Great food, very good service. The outside is deceiving, but the inside is clean and very inviting. The place is a little smaller than I anticipated, but good things come in small packages. The brisket sandwiches we had were very tasty. If you like it plain, it's great, not dry at all. I like sauce on mine and the hot BBQ sauce was not too spicy, added a good heat. Also the mac and cheese was AMAZING. Homemade with a good blend of cheeses. Also, enjoyed the Cheeseburger Soup! It's thick and hardy. Reasonably priced for lunch and we would come again. The taste reminded me of a couple places my brother took me when he was at Auburn in AL. My 8YO ordered fruit and it was fresh fruit, not canned. When we come back to town, we will stop here again. Our server was super sweet. I did not catch her name but I think her first name started with a C. I believe I saw the owner in there too, chatting with guests, so that is a good sign.
