3.5 stars (I want to preface that my review is for a single rainbow cookie, so take it for what it's worth; I just want to make sure that I have a record of it as a place I have tried.) I absolutely adore rainbow cookies, so I was thrilled to see a platter of them from the Paulanto Bakery at a party that I was attending in the area. Since there were several appealing desserts on offer, I only grabbed one of the colorful morsels, but I just found it mediocre. I felt that there was not enough chocolate around the edges and the coating that was there seemed more like light, milk chocolate than it did like the traditional rich, dark chocolate. I also thought the cookie would have benefitted from more almond paste or even a dedicated layer of marzipan. With that being said, it was very fresh and had the perfect consistency. If I see them again, I will gladly give them another try. read more

I visit this local bakery many times I would say a number of five times minimum and every single time I get a different experience with their cake slices. The first time was during the pandemic and it was understandable why they would close early and why the baked goods weren't up to expectations, however, the following few times afterwards were a hit or miss. Sometimes the cakes were overly too sweet to the point where my teeth hurts. But maybe that's just my preference so you can discard. You might love sweet sweet cakes but sometimes it is the perfect sweetness. However, the one thing that I find difficult about the bakery is the level of freshness. It's a gamble! On 3 different occasions I have asked the counter girls (who are all very nice btw) if the pastries were baked the same day. Out of the 3 visits there was a young lady that was extremely honest and told me which was made today and which was baked yesterday. I appreciated her honesty, and at that visit, the cakes that were baked same day were delicious, fresh and soft totally 4.5 stars. However, the following next few visits it wasn't that great. I would ask the same question and another young girl would answer it was all the same day which is not true because out of the slices I bought (and four cake slices this past week) only half were very soft and fresh. The other two were stale and some of the cream was sticky. I mean is it annoying that I ask ? Sure. But if it was all baked same day and have consistency I wouldn't need to ask all the time. I keep coming back hoping I get fresh cakes every time. I do love that they close at 9 PM so if you are very desperate for something sweet, then they are the spot to go to. Otherwise, this place is a gamble, hit or miss, which is unfortunate because I live so close to here, I can always walk down the street. The store itself is efficient with many counter assistants, fast service, they take card or cash and the prices are very affordable. No places to sit but it's alright. Unfortunately I didn't finish any of the slices in photo. $18 down the drain. Maybe I'll get better luck next time. read more

Had what I thought might have been the best cake I had ever tried in my lifetime custom made from this bakery. My friend Marisa had ordered a chocolate ganache cake for her birthday and not only were the prices reasonable-- the chocolate cake was so moist, the cream and ganache were incredible and not overly sweet or waxy. I called at 11 AM and it was ready at one for 3 o'clock pick up. The 10 inch round tres leches cake made a very big impression on the company present for the party. The cake I ordered for my aunt's 100th birthday couldn't have been better! I ordered tiramisu on one side and white cake with custard filling and fresh sliced strawberries on the other side. A friend from Bayonne came for dinner on Saturday evening and brought a huge round chocolate cake from this bakery for dessert. It was outrageously delish!!! 4 different kinds of chocolate and you can actually taste each one individually. From the dark chocolate ganache on the outside to moist Devils food cake inside with a light chocolate mousse filling the layers and topping it off dark chocolate curls on the sides. Not overly sweet and everyone loved it! So fresh that the next day I had an end piece and it was just as moist as if it came from the middle. Definitely will visit on next trip to Bayonne and will highly recommend to everyone. It is nice to know that there are still "real" bakeries out there!!! read more

Despite what luckily turned out to be a minor hick up that did irritate the daylights out of me, I will still rate them 5 stars. We asked for the cake to be ready by 2pm. We show up at 3pm and they told us it was not ready and they needed another 30 minutes but would deliver it to us. I have never had this happen before from the bakery I have ordered my children's cake from for many years. NEVER in 13 years has the other bakery I generally order from ever not had my order ready. Given this is the first time ordering from Paulanto, I had to take a very deep breath. THANKFULLY the party was in town and they were able to deliver it, but how about if I were picking up that cake and driving hours away? Not cool. On a positive note the gentleman that ultimately delivered the cake was naturally very apologetic. I walked in around 9:30am during the pandemic and I noticed the cashier behind the counter wasn't wearing her mask. I greeted her & she noticed my mask so she started putting her mask on. I told her I would like a dozen donuts to show my appreciation to the Firestone guys working on my car's oil change across the street & I also thanked her for working today. After she charged my card, I asked for some napkins and she handed me four small pieces. I told her I need a little bit more (which made me wonder if she was paying any attention to what I said earlier that it was for the Firestone crew) & she raised her voice, gave an attitude and said "that's too much!" So I replied to her, "too much?" and she immediately said, "that's too much for one person!" and forcefully handed 3 pieces of napkins which is still not enough for the entire crew. It just amazes me how some people in a customer service position don't listen & most of all give an attitude to someone who was appreciative of people working during this crisis. Usually I'm skeptical by such a bountiful offering, but the cake I settled on was moist and fresh! It had white cake and chocolate fudge icing. However my last experience was awful, I purchased a cake and some pastries, brought them to an event and when they went to cut the cake it was hard as a rock. The guests attending the event asked if it was ice cream cake, and I was embarrassed to say no. After finally cutting a piece the guests said how it had no flavor.
