I was going to schlepp all the way over to Dominque Ansel's new bakery, but with this little spot, who needs to do that? This little gem is the real deal and French Patisserie. The people speak French, and really know their stuff. They wait on you promptly, and adjust the staff when it gets crowded. I had my transaction completed in about 3 minutes, with about 3 people in front of me.
I was in the mood for sampling some small desserts today. I chose 3 different small items, each under a pound. Vanilla pudding filled, rum style cake. Firmer than I'd like, but still very good. Second was a small star shaped puffed pastry. Ok but a bit light. Finally the big winner in the taste department was the small Benoit, filled with a small amount of rich chocolate cream. A tiny little donut that packed so much flavor, I wanted more. Alas, my calorie limit wouldn't allow it, but this was worth the trip! Lots of sandwiches, full pies, cakes and tarts too. read more
