If you've been hankering for some delicious French pastries from an authentic boulangerie, you've come to the right place. After a few visits, I've yet to have something here that I don't like. And they have a plentiful menu that offers both sweet and savory items, as well as full-blown meals for brunch and lunch; nothing that screamed out at me, though.
If you're not overly-hungry, I would recommend trying at least one small savory item, and taking a sweet one to-go. I've always liked Croque Monsieurs, but it's so hard to find a decent one, even in Paris. I'm happy to say, the one I tried here was pretty amazing. When you have them heat it for you, it comes to your table a soft, creamy, crispy, chewy, cheesy little concoction that makes you wish it were bigger. If that isn't to your liking, they also have hearty Parisian sandwiches, different versions of eggs on toast, and yes, salads are also available.
Personally, I love the tiny beignets here. Yes, the tarts are practically jewels, the madeleines are pretty as a picture, the pain au chocolat is moist and delicious, but those beignets are something I've rarely had anywhere else. You have to buy a minimum of ten, but for just over £3, it's well-worth it. And diet or no, you'll be hard-pressed not to eat all ten by yourself; I know I did.
The final tally can be a bit pricey, but given that this is a real French bakery smack dab in the middle of one of the most famous streets in London, you could definitely do worse. read more
