When I don't need a superstrong caffeine boost and there's no independent coffee shop in sight, then Paul is one of my go-to options. It's good coffee, excellent pastries and fast service. This particular outlet has quite a narrow entry, which makes it cramped if there's a crowd, but they have a lovely comfortable seating space at the back. We had our best food day when we at Paul's for breakfast and Al Arrez next door for dinner!! The coffee here is great! The breakfast foods were amazing!!! The croissants, pain au chocolate, quiche, croque monsieur, and abricot anglaise were all spot-on perfect French cuisine. As we left, they were putting out the sandwiches for lunch, which also looked great! There is a small sitting area in back, or you can take-out for a slightly cheaper bite to eat. There may be a line, but don't be deterred, it moves quickly. They do have a bathroom in the back as well. read more

I stayed down the road from this place on my trip to London and woke up every morning to get a pastry. One of my favorite were the beignet balls and the croissants. The croissants were "almost" Paris good with a flakey, buttery, and crispy outer layer that crumbles with every bite. I also tried the leek quiche but thought the leeks were a tad overwhelming. When I first moved to London I fell in love instantly with... Paul. We've had a meaningful relationship for a few years now and I must say I'm still head over heals in love. I will never forget the first bite, his moist pastry, his juicy, glazed fruit... Yes I'm talking about Paul's patisserie, the best place to try French tarts this side of the Channel. I've just about passed the stage where I had to by a slice of each because I just couldn't decide as they all looked so amazing, and now I stick to a few favourites. The blueberry tart and the rhubarb one are truly delicious and I still can't get enough of them (hey we don't have things this fancy Up North you know). The sandwiches are really good too, especially the goats cheese and roasted veg one. Lightly toasted, this makes a great first course if you even want one before diving straight for the totally scrumptious patisserie and cakes. The South Ken branch is lovely to eat in at, either outside on a warm day or upstairs. If you manage to find a table inside, there's a very comfortable (if a little twee) rustic French balcony seating area where you're surrounded by wood panelling, old prints of men with ridiculously curly moustaches, bags of faux wheat and a wheel barrow. I like to come with friends for a catch up, although they're always a bit of a third party to my love affair with Paul. I probably could have given this place 5 stars for their pecan pie and lattes alone. My friends and I were having a touristy day in London and we had just come out of Harrod's and were hungry for lunch. I did absolutely no research on places to eat in London, primarily because I was on vacation and not connected to wifi access 24/7. So we decided to just find random places throughout our day. I was happy with our experience at Paul, and had no idea it was a chain until I noticed another later on in the day. Supposedly they also have locations in the US, but not in my area. This is your classic French patisserie. The ambiance is very cute inside and just the way I like it. We ordered based on what we thought looked good inside the display case, which consisted of a chicken sandwich and a pecan pie that my friend and I shared. We each also ordered lattes. The sandwich was just alright, but the pie and the latte were delicious! I also enjoyed that there was wifi here, which I learned is not a common occurrence throughout London. I always thought Paul's to be a little too posh and fancy for me. Regardless, what is undeniable is that they are an excellent bakery and patisserie. Their large selection of breads, flans and cakes never waiver from the high standard they set. I have a big penchant for their coconut flan and French crusty rolls. If you eat in, the café sections are generally comfy and warm and the menu is quite a treat. It was totally rush hour when we dropped in for a quick lunch break during a typical touristy shopping spree. And even though we didnt get a table and had to sit by the small counter shelf by the queue we still managed to enjoy the nice baguettes and very delicious quiches. The service was excellent. Paul was one stop I had to make while traveling Europe. The lovely little chain of patisseries did not dissapoint. Oddly enough, I found the locations I visited in London to be much better than the one I visited in Paris. Anyhow, I sampled a savory leek tart and finished it off with a sweet strawberry one. In the Franco-Italian war for the best bakery/cafe's, Paul is Napoléon. Short in name alone, Paul is a giant in the chain coffee haus/cafe scene. Paul's baked goods are really great. A step above those of Nero, Pret, etc. I love the raspberry croissant. Paul's baguette sandwiches are really fantastic and the reason it earns the five star rating. The fromage rosette is fantastic. Cheesy bread, good salami (although never enough), and some sort of little pickle things give it a great salty and savoury flavour. The others are good as well, especially the camembert and lettuce (great blend of rich cheese and lettuce crunch) and the coppa ham and olive tapenade one (the poppy seed baguette here rivals the cheesy one). Coffee is good as well, although I'm an espresso fan and I have a tough time differentiating chain espresso. read more

I in an apartment behind Paul and on my first morning in London decided to stop in for a croissant and a cappuccino. I was blown away for the croissant because it tasted as good as a Parisian pastry. I came back to this place every day of my stay. On the last morning, I discovered the chocolate beignet. And it was the MOST delicious thing I have ever ate. It was so good that I had to go back for more and woke up early to get it before my flight home. This was one of the best things I have ever ate. I strongly recommend going to Paul. read more

This place has some of the most decadent looking pastries and has very delicious sandwiches and salads. I have tried many of their fantastic sandwiches and salads, but never really any of their pastries. I had the opportunity of drooling over watching many of my friends savour them though! They also had some very delicious hot chocolate if I recall and this was a great place to stop if you wanted a great breakfast or lunch or a quick snack on the go. I like Paul's. Even though they are a chain they have real french attitude towards food. They offer real bread ... not this kind of sloppy soft English bread. If you get a baguette at Paul's it has crunch. Not like a baguette from an English sandwich shop which can be squeezed to be the size of stamp (that's not real bread). Paul also offers nice coffee and really nice chocolate. Chocolate ... again ... with a bit of attitude. You can taste that there is some real sugar rush going on ... same with the desserts like cakes and macaroons and .... now I'm hungry. Off to Paul for some crunch and a proper sugar rush. read more

I feel like the sandwich selection at Paul is wanting, especially in comparison to Pret and EAT. However, what they lack in bread options they more than offset with their amazing soups and stews. I spent several mornings at Paul during a prolonged stay in Knightsbridge for work. I thought all their baked items were good -- croissants, quiche, sandwiches, etc. Their coffee and lattes were also excellent. Seating is a bit limited and can be crowded but I usually found a place to sit when I decided to eat in. I'll definitely go back here when I return to the area. read more

The Pistachio Macaroons (Macarons) are TO DIE FOR!! I was only in London for a month, but these gems leave me salivating every time I think back on them. I had never heard of or tried a French Macaron until I went to London. The only PAUL Bakeries in the U.S. are in Miami, but they are all over London. Yummm! read more
