Latte & scone

Owner is so kind! Had a great latte & all goods are baked from scratch. Nice outdoor seating for summertime, would come again :)

Charming little spot with bright seating, friendly service and a great cappuccino. The pastries were alright but the real highlight was the overall atmosphere of the cafe. Head over after a saturday morning browsing through portobello market to get away from the noise and relax.

Did I mention before that I am an absolute bread junkie? And I have found a new favourite dealer ... This end of Westbourne Park Road is an odd location for a local bakery and I only passed it by chance, but it certainly seems worth a special journey. Had a quick chat to the owners who invited me in despite the shop being officially closed for the day (I think they spotted me taking a photo - Yelp alert!). All bread is baked on the premises and is fresh every day, except Sundays. I've just popped another round of wholemeal in the toaster - I'm overdosing for breakfast, it's that good. No idea if it's organic, will check next time. Difficult to guess what the clientele is like, but Butter Bakery is situated right next door to a fancy dog grooming parlour, so I'd expect the cafe to be popular with ladies who lunch while they wait for their pooches, or indeed their dogwalkers. The decor is faux-Germanic, but don't let that put you off!

Cute little bakery in Notting Hill. I came here with my husband for breakfast - delicious coffee and pastries! Staff is also super friendly!

Incredibly aromatic and flavoursome spelt and rye bread

I consider it really healthy to have a very slow, simple meal every now and again. My current favourite is a pinnacle of minimalism - bread with salted butter. Because its so simple it really allows the quality to shine through - if its there to begin with of course. Starting with a croissant I overheard a gentleman asking if they are made on site and was a bit disappointed hearing they are not. Having asked for something of their own produce I was given some od their Persian flatbread. This turned out to be a delicacy and the baker proudly informed me that it is made in a big oven they have on site using a traditional method involving bran meal. The passion of the baker was reflected in the craft quality on both the bran bread and the spelt and rye one I tried afterwards. Forget the imported croissants (which were ok BTW but let me make my point), the artisan stuff its what I love!

A gem of a place! Great spot for food and/or coffee. Everything created with love!

Flakey croissant and a quiet place away from the hordes of tourists near Notting Hill market. I found it on accident and glad I tried it.

Maison Ruget - Beautiful French Bakery

If you find yourself on Portobello Road and can walk by Maison Ruget without going in you've got…read moremore willpower than I. It's not that the place looks so charming (it doesn't) but rather, the sweets displayed in the window look so irresistible. I waltzed in for Vanilla Flan (£4.30; more like firm custard in a crust, very good) then sat there long enough to notice that some of the savory offerings began to look very good too. This is how I wound up eating lunch in reverse. After the Flan I went on to share a personal-sized Mushroom Pizza (with ham; £5) and a Salade Goat Cheese (£12) which was different than what I'd expected. Rather than placing fresh goat cheese into the salad itself, the cheese was warmed atop sliced toasts, then laid around the salad. Did I mention there was a ton of goat cheese? There was. Between that and the English Bacon liberally topping the salad, this was the richest goat cheese salad I'd ever had and I couldn't come close to finishing the cheese and toasts. Luckily, the salad itself was quite good and, featuring a Dijon Vinaigrette, quite French inspired. I can't really recommend anyone consume so much rich food in one sitting but I can certainly recommend a visit to Maison Ruget. It's an unassuming little cafe producing some very good sweet and savory offerings and perfect for a casual lunch.

When you walk in it's overwhelming because everything looks so good. I was only ordering for myself, and it was a cluster deciding what to get. I went with an almond croissant and then also a blueberry muffin for later. It's the kind of thing where you want to order one of everything. Trust me. The almond croissant was very good. I really enjoyed it. I won't say it was the best I've ever had, but it was definitely up there. I usually do a standard butter croissant and I didn't because I was so overwhelmed with how good everything looked and wanting to try something more. In hindsight, I probably should have tried the butter croissant because I bet it would have been amazing. A friend tried some small cookies and I was able to sample those. They were also great. The blueberry muffin was also very tasty although it probably would have been better if I didn't wait 12 hours to eat it! Overall, you should come here and order a bunch of stuff. There's really no other way around it. I do feel that a place like this should have exceptional coffee as well. I got a flat white and it was only just okay The set up for coming in and ordering and then needing to move outside so you don't feel like you're crowding the register while you wait for your coffee drink is a little bit of a mess. They should have a better flow here or if they're going to have coffee have it off to the side or something. But it's really all about the pastry here and that's the star. The coffee is kind of and after thought anyway. Definitely check Ottolenghi out if you're in the area!

Sally Clarke Shop - Beef and Guinness Pie and a Sausage Roll

Second- The food- wonderful. As an American, I'm used to more bold flavors. Bothe the sausage roll and the beef and Guinness pie have more subtle (less overwhelmingly spicy) flavors. I liked both very much for their subtle flavors. Third- The sweets were very good. The carrot cake and the pecan pie both had less sugar than the U.S.- which I like- I am not an overly sugar fan. Both desert were absolutely perfect. I would recommend this shop in a second to my friend- this is a great representation of classic English food and sweets. But to my enemies I would suggest eating Thailand food across the street at the "English Pib".

This little shop is a lovely take-out pâtisserie and bakery, selling items that became famous in her restaurant (Clarke's) across the street. It's expensive (this is Kensington, after all) but the quality of the breads, pastries and savory pies is high. My mum (who lives in Cambridge) requires that I pick up the double-crusted chicken pie every Christmas, on my way from Heathrow to Cambridge (!). So I have to carry it on the Underground and on BritRail, then in a cab. That's called loyalty to a pie! My only complaint is that there's no place to sit down. In their old location, you could meet a friend for coffee. So I just put my pastry in a bag and duck into a side street to eat my treasure - far from the scornful glares of the Kensington Church Street crowd!
