I got the Black Sesame flavor and the smoky, hearty flavor could definitely be detected through the crumb coating. My friend indulged in one of their hot chocolates, which came with a lot of whipped cream and a chocolate bear itself. I decided within a few hours to go to London with no particular plans in mind for my first time in the city, lucked out with a last minute reservation at this very popular cafe for an impromptu birthday afternoon tea. Unexpectedly stayed till close after an amazing time with the nicest waitress who moved me to their best table at start, helped clean off sweater lint off the only nice clothes I scrappily packed for the short notice trip, patiently took so many pics of me all around the cafe's most aesthetic corners fully indulging my basic, and taught me how to properly eat a scone instead of my original brutish ways. When the waitress came to take my card near end of service, I quietly showed her a note I'd written her on my phone (tldr expressed gratitude for her kindness and for making my birthday joyful amidst a gloomy holiday season, offered to do a few things and asked which would serve her the most meaning). After reading the note, the waitress gave me a big hug which I happily accepted, then surprised me with tears streaming down her face as she told me she was actually having a really rough day till this. After she collected herself a bit and closed out the remaining customers, we chatted more in a private section and resonated on our philosophies around how we treat people. Before parting, I encouraged the young waitress (Akanksha) to please retain her precious human qualities that the world always needs more of (indirectly reminding myself the same). You never know when somebody is going through a rough time. For two strangers at Peggy Porschen on this particular day, a scrappy patron and a waitress serendipitously made each other's day a little brighter and heart feel a lot warmer. I have noticed in my time in London that there are several locations. Plenty of goodies to choose from. Cakes, pies, gelato, and other delicious baked goods. This made it very hard to choose! I decided upon an espresso and almond croissant. They even heated it up for me. Within a few short tasty bites it was gone. Perfectly flaky with slight almond flavor. We ordered the standard high tea which came with 5-6 savory bites and 5-6 sweet bites. After getting the tea, service went downhill. Three new parties were seated AND a party of 5 got their food before us (party of 4) along with two other tables who were seated after us. We hopped in our car and headed here one rainy afternoon. Street parking was a breeze here (pay by phone). The bakery itself is much more spacious than I anticipated with a beautiful indoor and outdoor seating space. Service was fast and friendly. Order at the counter and either take it to go or grab a seat and they will bring most things to you. If you're ordering bakery items they will give them to you right at the counter. If you're eating in prices are slightly higher (like most places in the UK. My kids all had the watermelon ice cream. We figured they were so big that we would eat the leftovers. That didn't happen. They were so good they devoured them. We also got a couple more things that were amazing! They also have a lunch menu that we did not try. If you're in the area make it a point to come here!!

I could have eaten another half dozen of those and been happy. The macarons were pretty good, though I found their cream a little chalky. The rum cake was... not to my taste. I was expecting something like tiramisu, but it was kind of gelatinous and VERY alcoholic. I also didn't realize this was a chain, so if this is the quality to be expected from every one of these bakeries, that's pretty stellar.
