Had a different tasting experience than most who have visited Patz & Hall because they were in a moving phase during our visit. Instead of tasting at their property, which they no longer had, we tasted in their chardonnay cellar/production facility before their official move into downtown Sonoma. This made for a fun experience getting to see the barrel room and even try some barrel samples! Patz & Hall does chardonnay, pinot, and bubbles. I'm not sure how many different sparkling wines they offer, but they do have a good variety of both chards and pinots. The tasting menu had two of each when we were in, but they had some extras of each open so we did get to try a little more variety. We were helped by Jonny who gave great hospitality, had wonderful knowledge of the winery, and even gave us some good dinner recs! Not my favorite wines of the trip, but everyone in the group liked it enough to go home with at least one bottle of wine! read more

Great find in Sonoma for an afternoon of wine tasting. My wife and I love Pinot Noirs, so in doing some research, Patz & Hall Winery came up on quite a few searches. Glad we chose this winery. We had Grant take us through the history of the winery and a great tasting of the various Pinot's that Patz & Hall has to offer. Patz & Hall produces some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to be found anywhere, period. The tasting room is gorgeous with plenty of room inside and outside to relax and enjoy world class wine at your own pace. Several single vineyard Chardonnay's and Pinot Noirs are available to taste. Beautiful vineyard! I enjoyed wine tasting here and it was nice, very informative and great quality wine. I have to be honest, it was a bit boring, the atmosphere was as dry as the wine but I guess entertainment wasn't the goal. I can't remember the name of the person who conducted the wine tasting but she was okay, offered to take pictures and added some additional tastings to our experience which was nice. There are plenty of vineyards in Napa Valley/Sonoma, be sure to check out ones that offer the best experience along with great wine. read more

Unfortunately, Patz & Hall just missed the mark. It was the worst winery of our trip (we loved Opus One, V. Sattui, Inglenook, and Cakebread for reference). Tasting these wines made me wish I'd never heard of this brand, and I doubt I'll purchase it again in stores. It seems the wines they sell to restaurants (where we actually first had a chardonnay from them, and loved it) and stores is better than what they let you taste at their winery. I couldn't wait to be done and move on with my day, very shortly after arriving. Really sad to say that we won't return to this winery. read more

A couple we know are members of this winery. When we decided to do a Sonoma trip, they made an appointment for our group of six on Saturday, July 21st at 3pm. We were sat in a more private area which was nice as it felt more intimate. Sonoma House Tasting ($35 per person): *Chardonnay: 2015 Hyde Vineyard, Carneros, 61 Barrels ($65) *Chardonnay: 2015 Ritchie Vineyard, Russian River Valley, 14 Barrels ($65) *Pinot Noir: 2014 Moses-Hall Vineyard, Carneros, 23 Barrels ($75) *Pinot Noir: Sun Chase Vineyard, Sonoma Coast, 10 Barrels ($70) I'm not sure how much the tastings were, but the price mentioned above is what they have listed online. I'm honestly more of a full bodied cab girl, but I enjoyed these wines. I'm not big on white. I typically only drink sauvignon blancs if I'm sharing a bottle of white with someone. (I like that sauvignon blancs are typically crisp and dry.) The whites here were pretty good. They didn't remind me of the buttery chardonnays that I'm not into. The pinots were surprisingly bolder than I expected. Typically, I find pinots too light for my taste. I liked the moses hall one the best out of the four we tasted. My friends ended up buying 5 bottles, so our tastings were comped. I believe all the bottles were the 2013 Burnside Vineyard, Russian River Valley. I didn't enjoy this bottle as much as the Moses Hall, but I guess it was their last five, so my friends just grabbed them. The people guiding us through the tastings were so nice and sweet. We had a great time during the hour plus we were here. Great winery for pinots and chardonnays. One of the better tastings I've been to. Made up for the horrible tasting we had prior. read more

This winery was recommended to us by a sister winery and oh boy were we in for a treat. This winery is known for Chardonnay and Pinot noirs. Pinot noir is my absolute favorite type of wine. Love everything about this winery, reservation only, beautifully situated in a peaceful and charming lot. The tasting room is fairly new built, separate by each area for hosting different group. Over looking the vineyard, you got to go outside on a good day to enjoy the nice weather while sipping the delicious Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, whichever suits your palate. Great host and service while we were here, our host took the time to go over the history of the winery, the wine making and the appellation where the wines are grown. We were just there yesterday (20 Feb 2023) We were enticed by the website offer of 2 for 1 tasting when using a VISA Signature card. I've seen their basic label at Vons for years. We fish Alaska annually and have a freezer full of salmon. I'm always on a quest for Pinot's to match. I enjoy a lighter style when cooking and then pair a fuller wine with the meal. At 10:30 on a Monday, we were the only ones with a reservation. That is irrelevant as I know anyone would have received the same caliber of experience if their facility was completely booked or whomever assisted in your extensive Pinot and Chardonnay tasting. If the weather is good, request that you sit outside in full view of the property. " Johny" was so professional exuberant and he served multiple samples and glasses to compare side by side. (many more reviewers state the same experience) Full descriptions of vineyards, soil and altitudes. That's what tickles your senses and directs you to exactly what is in your glass and on your palate. Do not forsake their Chardonnay's. They were impeccable. Each wine to us, was a meal for the senses, in itself. Find your everyday Pinot but I believe you will savor their wines " every day." My 2 for 1 tasting immediately evolved into a membership! So we went to the holiday wine soirée with our good friends. If you never been to this winery and you use Uber the direction will drop you off one driveway away, so just have driver pull out and it's like 50 yards away. Well we arrive and our greeted and got a glass as we arrived in winery. Very nice but the pour was a little light. Next was a beautiful fire place and a welcoming wine bar and lots of snacks, The quail legs were great, I really liked how they had the tasting so spread out and you could revisit the wines. This place has wines that are really great. The Pinot noir Are some of the best. I have been to other tastings at Patz and Hall and this winery can put on so great events like their lobster dinner. I have to say Patz & Hall is a real class act! I had a reservation on a Saturday in August for a small family group for a late afternoon tasting. The air quality had deteriorated throughout the day due to nearby fires, and by the time our 3pm reservations rolled around the air quality in Sonoma was so bad that P&H was closing for the day for the safety of guests and employees alike. The tasting room manager, Patrick, realizing that we'd driven from out of town and had our hearts set on tasting the P&H wines, packed up a gift box of a few of the wines for tasting once we reached our safe destination. In an effort to please guests and ensure the safety of everyone they gave us bottles to taste on our own as well as tasting notes to go along with them. I have never experienced any service before that has met that level of sophistication. I'm blown away and impressed. The wines, you ask? OMG we loved them! For the Chardonnays I was definitely more a fan of the less oaky/creamy, more bright fruit flavors of the Hyde Vineyard Chard. For Pinots... I tasted them all multiple times and still couldn't pick a favorite. They were all so stunning! Bottom line, I have to recommend P&H for being quality wine and quality people. Thank you! read more

We visited soon after the fires that hit Napa and Sonoma, which came quite close to this wonderful winery, but did not damage it. We opted for the food and wine pairing and we were not disappointed. The five appetizer bites were prepared by a local caterer and they were delicious. We tasted 4 chardonnays and 3 pinot noirs, which are the only two varieties that this winery produces, in a private tasting room with a wonderful hostess who was quite knowledgeable about the wines. The wines were Devine and paired wonderfully with the appetizers. We would highly recommend this winery if you love Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. Make a reservation for the food and wine pairing. One of the most gorgeous estates in Sonoma County, my friends and I were all beyond impressed with our tasting experience! I made an appointment in advance for "The Salon Experience" held in the Sonoma House and it was everything I'd expected yet that much more. Our wine educator, Kathy, did a particularly wonderful job of taking care of us from start to finish and it was such a pleasure getting to know her story as well. We began in the outdoor patio with some crazy low-production bubbly that was pretty darn delightful and paired perfectly with the lovely view of the surrounding vineyards. In the Sonoma House, we were seated with a selection of 6 vineyard designated chardonnays and pinot noirs - each possessed much depth and very characteristic qualities that easily differentiated them from one another. Patz & Hall currently has contracts with 23 different vineyards and the search for new ones is apparently an ongoing one, lending to immense variety and numerous opportunities to explore the unique terroir of such sites. Overall, a truly amazing find in Sonoma wine country and one I'll be back to again and again. read more

The wife and I went here recently, using a Gilt coupon. From the outside, it's not much. The tasting room is located in a business park, away from downtown Napa. But, step inside, and it's very nice. There's a wine bar up front, and a comfy couch just outside the tasting room. We were greeted, led to the couch, and given some wine. Then, we were taken to the tasting room, where a very attractive and personable young lady poured a lot more wine. The wife, usually more of a Chard & Champagne girl, loved the Pinot, and we ended up buying a bottle. Overall, very nice. read more

I must first give credit to Dan, who led us through our wine flights, as he truly made the experience at Patz & Hall very memorable for my family and I. Dan was so thorough in describing the four different wines we tasted at the winery, as well as very personable throughout the whole experience. As for the wines and the winery - the wines were truly delicious and the winery was stunning. We tasted 2 different pinot noirs and 2 chardonnays, which are not typically my favorite wines, however they were incredible. I walked away with several bottles which is a hard thing to get me to do, as I tend to be selective on what I bring home. Patz and Hall was absolutely amazing. We are in Sonoma celebrating our honeymoon! The tasting was personal and timeless. The grounds were picturesque and romantic. Our host Megan was incredibly bubbly, polite, knowledgeable and friendly! The wines themselves were exquisite and complex yet they kept the traditional style of a California Pinot and Chardonnay! I've been tasting wines for years and have had several trips through Italy, Spain, and Napa and this was just exquisite. (I should qualify this review first by saying I am a wine industry vet and have worked in tasting rooms for years) I guess the best way to sum up the experience at Patz & Hall is that they just try too hard and take themselves too seriously. As other reviewers have noted, it is by appt only. Which is fine and common for the region. When you arrive they have a hostess who checks your name and will tell you that you are at table such-n-such and take you there. On that table is a sign that says "Reserved". Well, duh, I made a reservation, we all did. Aren't they all reserved? And even though they have an ample outside tasting area dogs are not allowed. Once we started on the tasting the wine educator started dropping names of vineyards, vineyard owners, other wineries that aren't around anymore, and different micro regions in Sonoma and Carneros. I thought he was doing this because he knew I was in the industry, but I overheard him with other guests and that is just the script. I had no idea who half these people were that he was mentioning. I asked some followup questions, but most guests would feel intimidated by all of this. Lastly, it just wasn't fun. I'm a pretty serious wine geek, but also like to have a good time. I mean, it's wine! I'm usually good with a 60/40 split of education/fun. But I've taken advanced somm classes that were more fun that my experience here. read more

This is a beautiful winery with delicious selection of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir! We visited for the first time on Saturday for a walk-in tasting. We were seated by Patrick who proceeded to provide an amazing tasting experience full of winery details and tasting recommendations. When we realized he was a fellow East-Bayer like us we hung around and shared stories of the latest restaurant closings and grocery store wait time (haha). Patrick was super friendly and clearly experienced. He made our visit fun, comfortable and personalized. We sat inside for our tasting and then walked along the outside grounds which are stunning! We will have to try an outdoor tasting on one of our future visits. Everyone working that day seemed to be in good spirits and it was an all around great atmosphere.
