What a lovely tasting bar in the heart of Downtown Sonoma! It's quaint and clean, and is decorated with photos of the vineyard and the family who owns it. You feel the warmth when you walk in. Carlo was a very kind and charming tasting room manager. He knows the wines, grapes and regions very well and captivates you with each story of the bottle he is pouring. He even explains the glassware. There are 3 different wine flights to try and you can taste by the class. The bar can also accommodate a flight that suits your preference. I was looking for an all red flight, and Carlo happily created one for me that I would for sure enjoy. For Designated Drivers, there are two non-alcoholic sparkling wines from Italy to try so no one feels left out. The tasting menu has light bites to complement the wines such as a charcuterie board, cheese plates, and chips. Carlo lets you know what goes well with the wine you're having. And for after tasting, a variety of coffees. The wines I tried were all delicious. I purchased 3 bottles. (Note: You can ask for a "dump bucket" but you don't need one because the wines are very good.) 1. Old Vine Rosé - So good and very popular that they have it on tap! 2. Whole Hog - A delicious Rhône! 3. Eleve Cabernet - drinks like a Bordeaux. When in Downtown Sonoma, please stop by and give them a try. Sean was great and super helpful! We did the Sonoma tasting which included white, rose, Pinot and Zinfandel. We got the cheese plate to go with it which came after we had started drinking the wine. It's helpful to get the cheese first. The rose was our favorite but the Zinfandel was a close second. Prices are very reasonable. read more

We stopped in as a party of four adults and two children in the afternoon on the 4th of July and Carlo took fantastic care of us. Beyond the warm welcome and attentive service, he was genuine, friendly, informative, and a fantastic representative of the wines and the vineyards from which those wines are sourced. Wow! Shocked by the rude staff at 2:15pm today. Walked in to the tasting room hoping to enjoy wine and a nice cheese board. Waited around a few minutes while the young guy behind the counter pretended not to see us. When the hubby politely asked to be seated the young staff said he couldn't and could we come back later because he was hoping to go to lunch. They clearly have signage that they offer their last pour at 5:15pm, There was also a group of older white couples seated on the patio enjoying wine so they are clearly open. Maybe because we are a mixed couple? I hate to assume that but?? come on. Who turns away business by asking them to come back later? Just left a fabulous few days in Napa. Definitely not the best first impression of Sonoma but I won't let one person ruin our trip. read more

I've tasted at dozens of places across the Sonoma and Napa Valleys... and the wines at Cochon have won my heart. Their Rhône varietals are excellent, and regardless of which flight you choose there's always a perfect progression from light and crisp to bold and complex. We were capping off a weekend in Napa Valley and we wanted to drive through the City on the way home. A friend recommended Cochon Tasting Bar as something new (we've been to Sonoma several times) and we dropped by for a light snack and a tasting. We were seated by Carlo in the outdoor patio because it was such a nice day, and he explained to us how the tasting room operates. It's a little different than other tasting rooms in that they make their own wine by selecting locally sourced grapes from local vineyards and processing the wine in local fermenters--basically they have flexibility to pick and choose both the grapes and the process, and the owner does the lion's share of the work. We started with the Summer Flight and after reading the list, The Wife asked innocently, "Oh, you have viongier?" A little background; for a few years The Wife has enjoyed viongier wines from one specific winery because they are just a little less sharp than chardonnays with the oak flavor and not quite as tangy as you'll find with sauvignon blancs. But for some reason the vineyard of choice stopped selling them and the viongier wines from other vineyards were, well, sub-par blends. So when Carlo, who is a true gentleman, mentioned that viogniers were part of the summer flight, that perked The Wife's ears (and taste buds) and she asked for that one. Which she enjoyed immensely, ending my search for the replacement viongiers she loves so much. Carlo was careful to listen to The Wife's tastes in wines and altered the flight to her tastes. I don't drink and I was pleasantly surprised to see a full coffee bar/tea menu (which is owned and run by Carlo). We added the charcuterie board that is served on a smaller platter neatly arranged, and I have to note that the meats and cheeses were outstanding; Carlo said they were imported from Europe, as were the Italian potato chips that were better than any of the specialty chips I've had. And that's how this place operates; it's really tough to compete in Sonoma/Napa Valley as there are so many choices and all of them are good. Instead, Cochon finds the niche products that are uncommon or rare and serves them with elegance. That the wine quality (especially viongiers) was comparable to the other wineries of the region at a better price makes it an easy recommendation. And yes, I bought enough viongier to keep The Wife at least into the summer. read more

Came here with my husband on Sat and it was pretty empty... maybe because it's located behind the main square? Or maybe because when sampling the wines they pour into the same glass without rinsing it? We aren't very seasoned in wine tasting but I was disappointed they didn't give us different glasses to sample from or at least they could have bothered to rinse our glass. We also requested outdoor dining but they said they had a large party and couldn't sit us outside... a couple came in after us and requested outdoor seating. They set up a folding red table and two chairs for them... guess we weren't special enough... I probably wouldn't come back which is a shame because I think the Rose sampling was good? If I could give a zero I would. My wife and I saw this establishment and it looked like a place that you would want to have a glass a wine and a nice charcuterie board but we couldn't get seated. There was a sign on the door that said wait to be seated and open until 5:15pm but no one ever came to seat us. So I went into the bar/restaurant area and there was a server, with a beard, crouched down behind the bar looking through his cell phone. I asked him was seating available and he said "not now, I'm going to lunch." Now I don't know how many eating establishments in Sonoma that does not want patrons and money but it was apparent that Cochon does not like either. I would not recommend this place based on the way that Cochon treat its customers. Go to "Girl and the Fig" instead. They treat people the way you should be treated. read more

This is the best wine tasting I have ever been too. The wine was delicious, but the service is certainly the best thing about Cochon. The intimate setting is so much nicer than larger wine bars where you are rushed . Our servers were amazing. Carlo took the time to explain each wine and the region it came from. He was professional and personable. My friends and I came for a bachelorette and we can't wait to come back one day. Seriously 10/10 would recommend. For Covid precautions, we were all pretty nervous going out again but felt very safe a Cochon. The tables are spread out well and the outside is very airy . Also the servers always had their masks on. They start with telling you the rules and precautions and I could tell they take it seriously.
