I have been going to Patti since, at least, 2021. She replaced my catalytic converter on my old Ford Fiesta for about half what the dealership was asking for. She even gave some helpful advice and tips on what new cars to look for, what years and models to avoid, etc. She often cuts the price where she can and, in my experience, is responsive. I took a few days before writing this because I really dislike leaving negative reviews, especially for a small, woman-owned business. I truly want Patti's -- and Phoebe, who is training to take over -- to succeed. Unfortunately, my experience was concerning enough that I feel I should share it. I brought my car in at 9am for a diagnostic before a trip to LA. It wasn't looked at until late afternoon, was kept overnight without my permission, and my calls/texts went unanswered. Patti later gave me a long verbal list of issues (including filters I had recently replaced), but the written estimate only listed three items: a water pump and both brakes. She said I needed four new tires and criticized my tire and oil change shops. The water pump was covered under my extended warranty. When we finally reached the adjuster together, the call escalated after he asked for a video of the issue, Patti yelled that she refused to send a video, didn't want the job anymore and hung up. Then, after two days of having my car and no repairs performed, she tried to charge me $165 when I picked it up. I got a 2nd and 3rd opinion: my water pump and filters were fine, I only needed front brakes for now, my tires are not yet due, and pricing was significantly different than what I was quoted. Before posting this, I tried to contact Phoebe to give her a chance to respond privately and received no response. Instead, I was later contacted by police after Patti reported that I took my car without paying and was accusing me of harassment, even though she handed me my keys in front of others and told me where my car was stored when I asked what I was being charged for. I also let him know that if the adjuster didn't have such good instincts, I could have paid a lot for unnecessary work, and they had not responded to my attempts to follow up at all. The officer said he would talk to Phoebe and get back to me if he had more questions. I didn't hear back from the officer or Phoebe. Ultimately, even though this didn't work out for me, I genuinely hope they can make the changes necessary to improve communication and professionalism. I do want to see Phoebe succeed. We need more women in the industry. read more

I LOVE THIS SHOP!!! Patti and her daughter have given me literally the best mechanic shop experience I have ever had. 1. They make LGBTQ+ people feel safe and help us understand the issues with out making us feel incompetent. 2. They don't jerk you around about prices and service fees, they are fair and honest. 3. They won't let you bring in a car that is going to have more costs that its worth to fix. They encourage clients to buy better vehicles so we don't have to have more service fees ad issues. 4. They communicate directly and honestly. I recommend to all women, queer and trans people in the East Bay to bring your vehicle to Patti, and if she says: "I can't work on it" that's an honest answer. Very impressed with the honesty and forthrightness exhibited by Patti when a Subaru was brought in for a pre-purchase inspection. Patti took one look and said nope, this model has an oil-consumption issue, as evidenced by what she's seen through the years, along with a class-action lawsuit. Awkward moment with the seller present, but Patti clearly calls it as she sees it, with an apparent commitment to protect her clients from impactful expense. Awesome cat too. As someone who loves my car but hated taking it in for maintenance, I wish I had found Patti's years earlier! I've had lots of negative experiences with local dealerships and independent auto shops alike, but this shop has made caring for my car painless. Direct and easy communication, friendly service, upfront estimates and quotes, and (from what I can tell as a non-car person) exceptional work. The first time I brought my car in last year they found potential repairs during routine maintenance checks, but encouraged me to wait till the problem (wear and tear on a suspension strut) actually became a problem. I was really impressed that they weren't trying to upsell or use fear tactics/condescension to make an extra buck. Just had another routine tune up and repaired all the concerns (worn breaks, battery leak, suspension, air filters) to set me up for an out of state move and my car is driving like it's brand new at 55k+ miles. read more

I just can't say enough about Patti's Auto Care. I previously placed an unqualified, glowing review with 5* because you can't give 6*! I had an experience today that deserves mention. My 2010 Outback Ltd started making some pretty alarming noises and losing coolant at a pretty alarming rate as well as I was driving back from skiing yesterday. I called yesterday afternoon and she fit me in this morning. Wow! They just texted to tell me that they had replaced my radiator cap and put new coolant in. While many shops would see this as an opportunity to really screw me and put in a new radiator, or replaces hoses or some belt...NOT PATTI! SHE NEVER DOES MORE THAN YOU NEED AND DOES IT WELL AND AT A REASONABLE PRICE. This is the best shop I have ever worked with and can't recommend it highly enough. Off to pick up my car which was ready only a few hours after I dropped it off. What a great place to do business and before I sign off I need to mention Patti's encyclopedic knowledge of cars and what can go wrong with them. I like that it's woman owned. And they are very kind people with cute sweet pets. I also rely on Yelp for honest reviews. So here's mine. I think they do the work and seem like the work is decent but not so sure they are really any different from many other places that they inflate their prices and tell you to do some things that don't necessarily need. Because they want to sell you more than needed. I wanted to have my brakes done but they suggested getting only new front brakes including the new rotors. Their estimate did not show all costs parts and labor. I took my car to another place for a second opinion with a friend who knew about cars. The competition mechanic said that I could get away with just the brake pads but the brakes could use the rotors but turned. Well anyways same price the competition guaranteed their work for 1 year. I got front and back brakes done with rotor turned for about the same price! I saved another $500 hundred by shopping around to another mechanic. read more

I had a bad experience here. Poor communication and one of those situations where you come in fix something (air conditioning) for a certain price and end up paying double you had anticipated. Even worse, AC stopped working a couple weeks after again so they didn't get to the root of the problem. Luckily there are plenty of other shops in the area. read more

I fully trust Patti not to nickel and dime me. She's upfront with you and no sugarcoating. I am a regular in her shop whenever I need repair. I brought my car in for service with an estimate over $2,100 ( I was prepared because we have talked about it before and with my 2008 Honda I felt it was time to make sure everything was done right. I picked up my car at $1,700 because one of the items we thought needed to be replaced was just lose. They couldn't see it clearly because they needed to open it up ( I'd like to say the bushings?, I could be wrong but it's all Greek to me) while they were to work on my breaks and alignment, oil change, tire rotation and a few small item. and some other stuff. What I'm so happy about is she just had it tightened and didn't cheat like other mechanics just to make money off of me. I've called her many times in other occasions including, what type of oil should I get? When she's not busy, I get an answer. My car was damaged during a seatbelt install. Patti said she would replace the part but everything she was finding was in bad shape. So I gave her the options of a. refund me or b. pay for another place i trust to fix the damage. She refused to refund in full but said said she would refund for the broken part. So I agreed and asked how much. That was over a week ago and no answer. Will never go back. Might need a lawyer. read more
