I did not have an "eye doctor" in RVA. Basically all hell broke loose in my eyes and my regular providers didn't know what to do. I was able to get an immediate/emergency appointment with Dr. Domagola, who was absolutely amazing. Thank goddess for her. She put me on a course of treatment that gave me relief for the first time in a week, and thanks to a thorough and timely follow up, referred me to the cornea specialist Dr. Brown, whose office reached out immediately and got me in the next morning. I was blown away by Dr. Brown's competence and bedside manner; she took great care to put me at ease, explain exactly what was happening, and how she's going to treat it. Both doctors left no question that I was in kind, capable hands. Every staff member from the front desk receptionists to the friendly techs who have evaluated me have been compassionate and helpful. Just a few years ago, vision correction surgery wouldn't have been possible on me because of how extreme my prescription was. Dr. Lipstock himself even gasps when he looks at my file and remembers just how bad I was. (I believe one eye was around -8 and the other closer to -9. Anything beyond -6 is considered very high. All that on top of a separate eye issue made vision surgery a long shot in my mind -- but not Dr. Lipstock's!) Now I've been enjoying the world so much more vividly, especially as the leaves change color for fall. Best of all, I was able to go back to work just days after my surgery. After a long weekend of keeping my eyes closed and well-oiled, I was able to go back to my writing job with only mild discomfort that dissipated further each day. Dr. Lipstock's staff are very careful about making sure you know what to do to care for your eyes before and after the surgery. There's no such thing as a bad question to them. They even took care to unwrap my ointment bottles in the office so that there was 0% chance I'd poke my eye with a stray piece for plastic! I can't stress enough how warm and friendly this practice is. The staff are all so knowledgeable and honest. They listen to everything you have to say and take any concerns you have seriously (and I had a LOT of concerns). I also got the sense that many of them have had vision surgery done by Dr. Lipstock before, so they KNOW what it's like to be in your shoes. I'm incredibly happy with my results, and Dr. Lipstock himself seems excited for me as well. I am so, so grateful to these people for giving me vision I never thought would be possible for me. Dr. Whitten makes you feel super comfortable, explaining the procedure before going into the operating suite and then keep talking to you to keep you relaxed while the procedure takes place. Dr. Mullen was my doctor and I he seemed very through to make sure I was a good candidate and that the procedure was going to work well for me. they used more fancy eye equipment and doohickeys then I've ever seen for measurement. I know they are using some new laser tech (sorry don't know the name) but it was able to correct some of my astigmatism so thing have been really clear too. (there is some haloing at night but they say it will clear up in a few months. really look forward to swimming later in the summer, but I've enjoy riding my motorcycle and using regular sunglasses. The price was very affordable (to me anyway) for the new procedure. Was glad I was refereed to him and his staff.

I had previously gone to another practice but had a hard time getting an appointment this time, so I went to Nilsen on my husband's recommendation. Nilsen takes Covid safety very seriously and keeps everything immaculately clean. They have an outdoor check-in location and keep everyone spaced inside. Everything is wiped down thoroughly between patients. Wait times are short. Staff is helpful and so friendly. Everyone is absolutely lovely here. Examination is thorough and everything is explained so well. Personally, I find eye exams a bit overwhelming and scary, but I felt totally at ease here and well educated about my eye health. Working with my insurance is also easy. Great in-house selection of glasses frames too. My husband has also gotten frame repairs done very quickly and easily at the practice. I cannot recommend Nilsen enough. They put you at ease and work hard to make everything easy and comfortable for the patient.

Now they have charged me over and over and wants me to pay again for another set of contacts that should have been taken care of when I said my contacts hurt. You cannot see your eye doctor again because they block you.. Worst place I have ever been. When I finally did see an eye doctor her first thing was you was fitted improperly and we can refit you with a proper pair.. even told me my contacts was under warranty. But when I went back the ASSISTANT again blocked me from the doctor and wants me to pay full price again. Do not go to this place it is not the same anymore. I would give them a 0 if I could.

I'm also in desperate need of getting new glasses since it has been about a good 2-3 years since my last eye check up. I actually had a free lunch period and decided to see if they were accepting walk-ins. Parking can be a pain, especially during the crazy lunch rush (it's by Chopt Salad). - The website is pretty easy to use as well, but I wasn't sure of my available time for the week so just walked in. It was pretty quick doing the paperwork and I waited for about 30 mins before getting my eyes checked. Afterwards, I went to the exam room with Dr. Robert Galban to complete my glasses/contacts prescription. I really like how this office is handled. Dr. Galban was very informative on how he was examining my eyes and even showed me my results of my eyes. (It's times like this when you're glad that it's a "boring" exam - I only just meant that I was in the clear! haha). Overall, the experience was pretty good for a walk-in appointment. I only have to do a week follow up on my contacts to make sure that it feels like the right prescription. I really like how the office worked and how they want to make sure that the client is happy with their prescriptions. All the staffs were friendly and very helpful with any questions that I had.
