    Lemon Grass (Tom Yum)

I use to go to this restaurant a bit when I was in college. I am glad that they moved into a new spot without loosing their awesome quality and service. We went for University City Dining Days. Can't beat a $20 dollar, 3 course meal. The new place is so gorgeous. They have a lot of seating. I really liked the wall art (see attached). It literally spanned the whole wall. It was also nice that they have a small window so I can see orders come out and all the behind the scene action. The service was very quick. We ordered lemon grass as our soup and papaya salad as our other app. The lemon grass is a must order (it had the best broth ever). We felt like the mushrooms didn't really hold only the flavor of the broth compared to the chicken. The papaya salad was also good. Usually it is more fishy with the fish sauce but this didn't have that pronounced taste. The next dish was the pad thai which was really delicious. It was so big and had a great presentation with its flower shaped carrots. I could even tell the dish had quality. They even didn't skimp on the quality on the bean sprouts. I really liked how we could choose from chicken, pork, or beef for this dish and the red curry. We ended up getting beef for the red curry. It was different with beef compared to chicken but I feel like it still tasted really good. I really enjoyed the coconut base. The desserts consisted of coconut pudding and coconut ice cream. The ice cream was pretty good (I wish we would have had more than one scoop). The coconut was very flavorful. We also had a coconut pudding which was oddly placed in two small bowls. It was also weird that the coconut pudding was hot (we weren't expecting that).

A few weeks ago, I ordered delivery from Pattaya and the food was absolutely incredible. So the following week I took my mom there and we went in person for lunch. The restaurant was beautiful, service was fast and friendly. I will become a regular here, and highly recommend to anyone looking for Thai food. All three dishes that we had were amazing and I highly recommend their house made Thai tea (not pictured).

Drunken noodles were on the drier side, soup had a healthy portion of chicken for the price

I always enjoy the food here. The service is good, the dishes are brimming with flavor and the spot is bright with big windows. It's a great place for a weeknight meal. I had the yellow curry and my daughter had the salad with beef. Both orders were delicious. I was asked what spice level (1-5) and I said 4. It was indeed, a delicious 4. If you are craving a decent Thai food dish and find yourself here, I don't think you would be sorry about it. Good food, quick service and the spice level just how you like it.

The food was unimpressive. Noodles were either overcooked/ not fresh since the noodles came out broken/ not whole/ in pieces. Dishes themselves were 95% noodle or rice with minimal veggies or meat. Yes they are generous in size but not in quality. Dishes are ~$10-18 each. The spicy dishes we ordered were not spicy at all to our Asian taste buds. The pad see ew was extremely sweet and not recommended for those without a sweet tooth such as myself. The meat also tasted like it had an expired smell/ odor... Menu said it contains egg but I think they forgot to add in mine? For the shrimp and crab meat fried rice, we barely see any crabmeat and shrimp... maybe 2-3 pieces of each accompanying a massive portion of rice. Will not be coming here again. To their defense, the place is clean. Whom I do recommend this place to: people on a budget as this does average out ~$10-19/ per person. They accept credit cards. No parking included. Metered street parking.

    Panang Curry and Golden Triangles

Needing a break from the typical campus eats, I suggested a business lunch at Pattaya. I really enjoyed the ambiance, proximity to Penn's campus, and the varied menu items at Pattaya. I was a little bummed that there were no lunch specials, and I was super sad that the only beverages they offered were canned or bottled - I was seeking a fresh Thai iced tea! However, the Panang Curry was to die for - I had no issue slurping the entirety of my meal. My colleagues ordered different noodle dishes, and the portions were huge! We shared an order of the Golden Triangles, which were okay - unremarkable, but tofu often is (sorry!!) We were all very happy with our main entrees, and I was the only one who didn't have an entire meal's worth of leftovers...a good value! Service was friendly and quick making for a nice dine-in experience.

Love this place so much. The servers are so kind, the food is made so quick even if it's busy and it's so so delicious. I come here about once a week and it's never been bad. The chicken is high quality and the seasonings are amazing. Love coming here!

    Takeout Vegetarian Pad See Ew

Pattaya has reliable and reasonably priced Thai food. Their portions are large - especially for the Pad Thai, and everything is seasoned well and tastes delicious. I wish there was more tofu in the vegetarian dishes, but I love the inclusion of baby corn so it balances out the lack of tofu. While this isn't the most mind blowing food you'll ever have, their dishes are good and I frequently find myself here when I don't want to cook.

Restaurant looked new when we walked in. Loved the art work on their walls. Ordered the Chicken Lemon Grass Soup, Papaya salad, beef red curry, chicken pad thai, coconut pudding, and coconut ice cream. The coconut pudding was missing from new University Dining Days promo menu but they were gracious enough to readd it at my request. The soup's chicken was overcooked and mushroom wasn't as flavorful but the soup and vegetables made up for it and more. The salad was also excellent and loved how fish sauce didn't overwhelm the salad. The curry was delicious with it's coconut flavors mixed so well with the rice. The pad thai was great with it's slightly sweet noodles. The coconut pudding came out piping hot but once cooled down, tasted delicious with it's mild sweet flavors. The coconut ice cream was cold and great for a hot day. All the dishes came out quickly without overwhelming our limited table space. Definitely coming again!

Introduced to Pattaya after West Philly's Baltimore ave dollar stroll festival a week or so ago. During the stroll, Pattaya's Spring rolls and their Thai ice tea was selling like hot cakes, and rightfully so. Those two menu items were deserving of the hype. Unfortunately IRL, some of their other items fell short from a flavor prospective. The veggie dumplings were just bad. Even if they had meat in them, the texture of the dumpling wrapper seemed way off. Also the wonton soup (not pictured) was bland. Probably the same issues as the veggie dumplings, the wontons were texturally off and lacking overall taste. Now for some wins! The Thai wings are good. Think Peking inn fried wings ( Chinese food in west Philly) with sticky Thai sauce. By far the favorite thing I tasted there. The drunken noodle was good as well. I like the ability to customize the order by adding different mix ins, like veggies and spice level. Overall Pattaya, not bad but not great.

Left to right: Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Pad See Ew (gotta get the different angles)

A decent Thai-ish restaurant near Penn's campus! Recently, my friends visited Pattaya after they moved to the Locust Street location. Here we ordered the basic noodle dishes: Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, and Pad See Ew. The dishes were great but they weren't 100% reminiscent of Thai food, more so just other noodle dishes. The Pad Thai had more of a soy sauce base- I didn't taste the sweet/sour of the tamarind as much as I would have hoped. The Pad See Ew was decent with a sweeter soy sauce taste. Lastly, the drunken noodles were ok, but again, skimped on the strong veggie and Thai basil flavor (if you don't like spice too much, get the 1/5 spice!- Thai spice doesn't play around). The orange slice topping was interesting and my friend said she liked it over the Pad Thai! Overall, it was a good experience but seemed a little underwhelming if you're expecting authentic Thai food. The service was extremely friendly and quick though, so I commend the workers for that! Would come back to branch out and perhaps try their other dishes!

    Calamari

I came here and tried the calamari and ginger tea Ginger Tea - great tea! My stomach was a bit upset when I first got here and it fixed me right up. I'm not even a huge tea guy but something told me to get it and I'm glad I did! Calamari - originally I was hesitant based on the look of the breading but it actually was very good! Cooked well, nice size, no too crispy. The sweet and sour sauce was very good as well. I also appreciated the little salad it comes with because it added a lot more variety! Calamari Rating - 5

I loveeeee Pattaya! Honestly I don't think I've had a bad meal here. I go semi-regularly and pretty much always get the same things. I start with calamari, golden shrimp, or egg rolls before moving on to the pad see ew, drunkin noodle, or pad thai. On rotation. It always comes out quick, hot, and ready to be devoured. The staff is always nice and eager to make sure you have everything you need. The atmosphere isn't fancy or pretentious. It gives more lunch spot vibes, but I go at any hour. It's the best little thai spot in west Philly!

We've had both takeout and dine-in here, and we definitely prefer dining in. The food is at its best when it comes straight out of the kitchen. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and kind without being overbearing. For seating, we prefer the cozy but small upstairs dining area, so making a reservation on OpenTable is usually a good idea. There are a few high-top tables downstairs near the kitchen and windows, which are also great, but if you prefer a quieter or cozier spot, we think the upstairs is best. They also offer a happy hour with good prices, and overall, the value for the food quality is excellent. We often bring out-of-town guests, and it's always a hit. Sichuan cuisine remains distinct from typical American Chinese, which helps Dan Dan stand out. We've also noticed their Ardmore location, which appears to be a strong alternative. Consistently good, well-run, unique, and worth visiting, especially for the dan dan noodles. Highly recommended and hope to be back soon!
