Lamb Gyro

The Greek lady is definitely a place to try if you're in Philadelphia! We ordered in DoorDash and the food was delivered still hot! I didn't get pics as they started eating too quick. I had the gyro and it was HUGE! The lamb was seasoned perfectly the bread was tasty and the prices are reasonable!

Amazing service and food today. I had a Greek omelette and Greek salad. The food was fresh and delicious.

Greek lady has mediocre greek food but very good breakfast. Their home fries are phenomenal, the breakfast sandwiches are huge, and you can't go wrong with one of the omelettes. Their vegetarian gyro is filled with vegetables and French fries which is a little weird, but the rest of their Greek food is okay. There's some seating inside but it can get busy on weekend evenings. We've also done breakfast catering from here for group brunch events, and again, the platter of homefries is always a big hit.

Gyros always smack (I get mine without fries in the gyro) Eat in or take out, both quick service.

Not sure why this restaurant has such low ratings. It is the perfect no frills lunch spot with affordable food for great value! I have only gotten the house/lamb gyros. The meat is always tender and well seasoned. They put fries in the sandwich (personally, I take them out to munch on) and layered on top is salad with lettuce, tomatos, and onions. It's the perfect combination. Service is quick! Simple restaurant, no frills, local spot.

The service was great today for lunch! We ordered the lamb gyro platters with Greek salad and bakalava for dessert. It was good to watch as they were cutting the meat from the Shawarma and building the sandwiches. The homemade peach ice tea was a refreshing touch as well.

Chicken Finger Hoagie

I saw the Greek Lady on JL Jupiter's YouTube channel. I'm trying not to eat as much processed meat these days, so their chicken finger hoagie sounded like a great option. I ordered the chicken finger hoagie, along with a couple of desserts for delivery. My delivery came promply and the chicken finger hoagie did not disappoint. The worst thing I could say was that it was too large to eat in one meal, and doesn't retain it's flavor the next day the same way a traditional lunchmeat hoagie would. But it a delicious hoagie, full of chopped up pieces of perfectly fried chicken. I really wanted to devour the entire thing in one meal, but just couldn't do it. My desserts were a slice of carrot cake and red velvet cake. The red velvet cake was disappointing. I would not order that again. The carrot cake was outstanding. I'm not a big fan of the nuts, so the cake could have been perfect without buts. But even with the nuts it's one of the top carrot cakes I've ever tasted. Next time I'm in West Philly I will try to make time to stop in to the Greek Lady to sample more of the menu.

The Greek Lady is an excellent place! We went here twice on our long weekend in Philly. The food is fresh and delicious, the portion sizes are generous, and all for a decent cost. Our party ordered the lamb gyro, the chicken gyro the veggie hoagie (large and generous) and the Greek Lady salad. Everything was delicious. The gyros were fresh and generous, the salads were gigantic (we needed to-go boxes for those). The staff are excellent, courteous and very customer-oriented. We had a party of 10 and grabbed a table right outside, and it was delightful. The woman working (who we learned is from Albania) was so kind and thoughtful and we had a good time chatting with her--but didn't get her name. Very near to Penn's campus and on a Saturday afternoon we were even able to park on the street right in front. You can't go wrong with a stop here!

My daughter found this restaurant in Yelp. The restaurant was cleaned and organized. However, there was no air conditioning. We choose to enjoy our meal at the table in front of the restaurant. The food was mediocre, but their prices were high compared to other restaurant.

I came all the way from New York because it's been two years since I ate here. Honestly I'm so mad It was horrible I got chicken gyro the chicken was rock hard on my first bite. So i started digging in it with a fork and it was just the most disgusting dried out old chicken. I threw that straight in the garbage. That place lost is luster and taste buds. It's so unfortunately because I was really wanting this for awhile,

The food is mid, the owner also prioritizes white customers over black customers. Won't be returning.

Family and friends came here after a Christmas Concert at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter…read moreand Paul. We had great food and conversation. My family and I were last to arrive. It took a while for the waitstaff to get drink/appetizer orders to us once placed, but I think our large party was the issue and there was only minimal staff at the bar. My Greek Island Iced Tea was meh along with the Greek Cosmopolitan my wife got. The Greek beer and wines were nice to experience. At our table, there were many different dishes. The waitress advised they were out of one item on the vegetarian menu. My dad and his wife picked out others and did you know that a true Greek salad doesn't have lettuce? Our waitress told us that and my dad said that was true when they visited Greece. So they must know what's up! My family and I shared a combo cold appetizer which was several spreads (some spicy!) on pita of which we had to order more of. Only one of the spreads did we absolutely hate. They called it caviar but it was mayo in consistency and looks. The hummus was nice, tzatziki was loved, and the garlic potato was SUPER garlic. My main dish of octopus was quite nice and I wished was a bit larger. Octopus with lettuce tomato and onion in oil. Tasty. My wife and kid had lamb shank and lamb roast. Both were delicious and tender. My friends got the cheese on fire tableside and a lot of calamari which was also well liked. Our waitress was wonderful and on top of things. She was able to split the check three ways and got well deserved tips. The restaurant itself is a little cramped as it's in a former residence, but you can get around. If you're in the mood for Greek food, I don't think you'll go wrong at Zorba's Taverna. $180 including tax and tip for three adults. Two cocktails, a beer, tea, combo appetizer, three mains, and a dessert to go.

The atmosphere is bumping! They have TVs to watch games and a bar to sit at. There was also music being played. Just an overall amazing vibe. We decided to get a whole bunch of appetizers to share. Spanakopita- INSANE. So flaky. Had a nice balance of spinach and feta. IOS chips- INCREDIBLE. Zucchini and eggplant chips, which were like tempura friends so it was light and airy. Beef and Lamb Flatbread- OMG. THIS BLEW ME AWAY. The meat was so well-seasoned. The spinach and Greek cheese suit the meat so well. The drizzle of sauce on table added on a layer of sweetness. So good. Hummus- SO GOOD. Very traditional. Greek Salad- So refreshing. Halloumi- Delicious! Kataifi - INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Sweet, flaky, creamy. Drinks were also delicious and fun! I had the opportunity to visit Greece for the first time a few years ago, and while I always liked…read moreGreek/Mediterranean food, the trip 'heightened my senses', and I now seek out the food I enjoyed so much during my visit. Almyra - I happened to walk by it a few weeks ago, I didn't know it was there. I thought, 'looks very nice, I'll have to try it'. The restaurant, which features 'modern Greek' is part of the Estia Group, which includes 7 restaurants - 3 of which are in Philly (Estia and Pietro's are the other two). I went for dinner this evening on a Wednesday, and there was a good crowd - the restaurant is quite large, and it's decorated beautifully. I started with three of the Spreads - Smoked Eggplant, Beet, and Hummus. It was wonderful trying these 3 - I spread them on the pita and crispy rice crackers - and tried them separately - spoonful by spoonful, to really taste the differences. The Edamame Hummus has a unique flavor and texture with tahini and garlic. The Beet features roasted beets blended with labneh and garlic and topped with pistachio and feta. The Smoked Eggplant with peppers and balsamic rounds out the 3 with a deep, smoky flavor and a soft, smooth texture. I always look for 'classic' Spanakopita these days, but rarely find it. The dish at Almyra was labeled 'Spanakopita Manti' - I asked my server, what that was. She said it was a favorite of hers, a fried 'flower shaped' pastry filled with blended spinach and feta, served with tzatziki and leeks. I ordered them and they were heavenly - lightly battered, crispy fried 'flowers', with a creamy spinach center, that tasted exactly like spanakopita should. I dipped every bite in the creamy tzatziki and thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer! While pork is the most popular meat in Greece, lamb is a dish served on special occasions and holidays. I 'discovered' lamb in Greece, as I hadn't ordered it that often when I would go out to eat....specifically the lamb chop. Almyra has a great lamb chop! It's seared on the grill - and I do mean seared - the deep char definitely adds to the flavor. The 3 large chops are Australian lamb, herb marinated for days highlighting the flavor of the meat. They are seasoned with sea salt, cracked pepper and olive oil for a tender finish. I like my meat pink inside - not red or rare. Cooking lamb chops medium to medium well is no small feat, yet the meat was cooked exactly the way I liked. They were tender and very juicy. These chops may have been some of the thickest I've had - and I made the 'mistake' of trying to eat them with a fork and knife. Wrong! If you order chops, you 'MUST PICK THEM UP' and eat them! What a difference!! The meat just came right off the bone and it enhanced both the texture and flavor! I'm not sure why eating them off the bone was so different, but I can't emphasize it enough - and, it's a lot more fun! Part of the treat when you order ribs are the 'layered potato fries' you get with them! These aren't your ordinary fries, in fact, they're really not fries - they are little potato masterpieces! The fries are prepared by thinly slicing potatoes and layering them to create a multi layered texture that rocks! They are truly a savory, rich side dish to the lamb chops! After such an epic dinner, I had to order dessert, and the Olive Oil cake immediately caught my eye. It was a two layered cake with a creamy custard like center and a citrus orange topping. It was light and moist, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla gelato resting on a bed of ground pistachio nuts! It was delicious and a wonderful ending to a great meal!

Fine to have a dress code. Fine to enforce it. Not fine to not have staff communicate. We were at a family happy hour and my wife choses to wear a head covering for religious reasons. They asked her politely to remove and she explained. All good. They then came back three times and several times pointed at our table. The last time the bouncer scoffed when we explained. Not cool.

Coffee is pretty OK, but the selection of Greek pastries and food is pretty wide. I've had the food before, which I found to be just OK, but the pastries (esp. the spanakopita) was spot on and delicious. I had some non-coffee drinks recently, and they were good enough to feel refreshed, but nothing to phone home about. Lots of seating here, but usually a lot of it is taken by Drexel student groups working. Back room has a lot more but is also strangely dim, so I'd honestly have a hard time if I was found to be working back there. Front seating though is nice with the natural lighting! For some reason they were blasting music today at a level that made it difficult to work even through AirPods. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something about Greek cafes in particular, but it wasn't the greatest environment. Service is always prompt. I've found it to not always be the friendliest but they get the job done. Late hours are a plus amongst cafes in U-City, so I'll still stop by.
