Patra Dining in downtown Upland is outstanding! We had the Panang Shrimp and Scallops made with red curry, coconut milk, bell peppers, peas, and Thai basil. Served with white or brown rice and a refreshing salad. It's one of my all time favorite meals. The staff are super friendly and the owner, Joyce, is simply delightful to interact with. I highly recommend this restaurant. They also have a wonderful lunch menu! O's ice cream shoppe is next door so we got a scoop to take home. read more

Stopped by with the family for a birthday dinner. We were put at ease by the laid-back ambiance and wonderful service by who I believe to be the owner. We ordered Mini Puffs for the table, with each of us ordering the Mandalay Curry, Shrimp and Scallops, Salmon Stir Fry, and the Panang Roasted Beef Stew. Every bite we took left us going for seconds! We found the beef stew to be our overall favorite, but everything was fantastic. They also gave us their flambeed bananas and ice cream dessert to try, which we all found fantastic. A cute, smaller sized restaurant in downtown Upland. The space is used the best that it can be for the small size that it is. There is a neat "smoking" wall section. The food was delicious! They gave us complimentary gyoza because we were waiting awhile for our food. Overall I'll for sure stop in again to try more. read more

Discovered this place during the Lemon Festival. We were invited in by a friendly member of their staff. Despite the fact that they were probably busier than on a typical evening, they managed to serve us two delicious plates. I was also impressed that the owner/manager received hugs and well wishes from what appeared to be regular customers. My wife told our server that we would definitely be back and we're planning on going back tomorrow. read more

Everything about this place makes it better than any other Thai restaurant in the area. YES, better than Sanamluang in Claremont. YES, better than Lucky Elephant in Ontario. It looks like an upscale restaurant when you first walk in. The music is like you're in a fancy steak house, but thservice here IS upscale and their food is right up there. Generally all Thai food tastes the same to me, but theirs was flavorful and served hot. Awesome place. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. read more

Excellent all around. We had the Chicken Satay, Pad See Ew, Mandalay Curry and Thai Iced Tea. All were delicious and very fresh. The satay was accompanied by a home made peanut sauce that had fresh roasted peanuts. The curry was tasty and generously served and the service was friendly and fast. This is a very new restaurant and much appreciated in this area, the restaurant is casual but also good for a casual date or family dinner. The service here is great with the owner personally greeting the guest and seeing to all their needs, but the food was not up to the same standard, unfortunately. All of the homemade sauces on the food were amazing, but everything we ordered was overcooked. I ordered the pad Thai noodles and they arrived so mushy it was inedible, the spring rolls were too hard to eat, the wings were so tough there was almost no meat left to eat off of them, and the ribs were the same. I really wanted to love this restaurant because I love Thai food and I had read good reviews about this place and the chef/owner. read more

I just happened to be walking in downtown upland during the lemon festival and realized they opened a new Thai restaurant. The mandalay curry with white rice was phenomenal to say the least. Such a nice dining experience for my brother and I today. Chicken Pot Stickers, Shrimp Fried Rice, Pad Thai with Pork, and Cashew Chicken (not pictured). We both enjoyed our own side salads with ginger, soy vinaigrette dressing (Joyce's own recipe. YUM!). Everything was excellent! This was only my second time ever going to a Thai restaurant. Had a training in dtwn Upland. Most of my colleagues opted for the usual sandwich. I headed over to Patra for what proved to be a very good food experience: clean place, French bistro kind of music, sporty elegant waitresses (might have been the Owner). I ordered the green curry but on the menu they only had it with tofu, chicken and shrimp. I asked for salmon and they adapted quickly. Brown rice and jasmine tea which both came steaming. The curry was so right and the salmon done at just the right temperature. If you know what I mean, it's so easy to dry out a salmon.... We went on a Sunday evening recently for dinner. The atmosphere is nice, with exposed brick walls and interesting art. We were greeted immediately and the waitstaff were very friendly, but it was incredibly slow despite the restaurant being not even half full. We waited about 30 minutes for appetizers alone, and then main dishes for our party came out slowly one by one, with the last one arriving 15 minutes after everyone else's was on the table. The food itself was inconsistent. Appetizers: the veggies puffs were delicious; the peanut sauce with the chicken satay was bland and one piece of chicken didn't seem fully cooked. Main dishes: the fried rice looked like it would be great, loaded with veggies and egg, but it was extremely bland and disappointing; pad see ew was good; and green curry was very tasty but much spicier than requested. We brought home leftovers and ended up throwing them out because no one was enthusiastic about eating more of this food. There are so many other Thai restaurants around the area, I can't say I'd never try this place again but I won't make it a priority to go back. read more

The owner is the sweetest person you'll ever meet--so warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about her food. We started with the beef puff pastry appetizer, and wow--what a treat! The pastry was perfectly flaky, and the savory, well-seasoned beef inside made for a melt-in-your-mouth bite. Definitely a must-order. For mains, we had the BBQ chicken, which was grilled to perfection--juicy, smoky, and full of flavor. We also tried the shrimp curry which was outstanding. The noodles had the perfect balance of texture and seasoning, while the curry was rich, fragrant, and packed with deep, comforting flavors. To finish, we had the banana dessert, and it was the perfect sweet ending to an already incredible meal. Warm, caramelized, and just the right amount of indulgent. Beyond the fantastic food, the hospitality here is what truly makes this place special. You can tell the owner puts her heart into everything, and it shows. The owner, sweet, beautiful, lovely energy and the waitress was attentive and mindful. That being said, I'd been waiting since Patra opened to visit, the reviews astounding! I was super excited after 8 months of fighting cancer to go on a date with my husband and this was my choice.... both lovers of Thai food!!!! The restaurant was warm, a fan was necessary to keep us cool. The restaurant oddly boring in decor and paper menus dirty. I had read about how over the top the "experience" was in our little town... I was ecstatic to go! The food was edible but nothing that made me crave a second visit. We got the beef puffs (i saw no beef), crispy rolls (nothing out of the ordinary).. I'd much rather a hole in the wall w the hot pots and spinning chili jars even though I can't do heat anymore after radiation. Which brings me to the steak salad. I'm accustomed to long and tender straps of steak... these were little nuggets completely overcooked and hard to chew. It said lime dressing, no indication of any heat and it clearly had chilies in it marinating so I couldn't eat it. I used the restroom and it was not clean and very unbecoming for a restaurant that is seemingly to be a whole package. No offense intended but we came home w the left overs, tossed them and made burritos. We both are good cooks and don't eat out but 1 or 2 times a year because of our disappointment. To reiterate... the service was swell and all but I was excited for our little town. We were the only ones there at prime dinner time, even made a reservation because of the reviews. It is so nice to have another really good restaurant in downtown Upland. I have been here twice and loved it both times. I first checked it out with a friend at lunch. They have several lunch specials. I tried the Massaman curry and it was delicious. The whole table next to us had the spicy cashew chicken. The lady who sat near me told me that you couldn't go wrong with any choice. I think she was right! The next time we had a dinner special - curry with shrimp and scallops. I wanted to try the cashew chicken, but it wasn't on the dinner menu. When I asked, they said they would make it for me. Both entrees were absolutely delicious! My husband doesn't like to try new places, but he really enjoyed his dinner. The food was excellent and the service was so friendly. Came here for the first time today. Ordered the curry chicken off of the lunch menu. The food was very reasonably priced and I took it back to my office. I found the portion was generous and enough for me to turn into two meals. Definitely a great value. Plus it tasted great. While I was there, the hostess was very nice and the service, although minimal, was still helpful and pleasant. While waiting for my food, I took the opportunity to look around.
