I wasn't sure about going to a new Chinese place but I was happily surprised by 1st Dumpling. We had the Mongolian beef and XLB dumpling and fried rice. The beef was so good better than PF Changs and probably the best XLB dumplings we've had outside of going to din tai fung. So if you want a local good Chinese food I would definitely recommend coming here. The staff are so friendly and the food was quick to come out even though they were pretty busy on a Saturday night. Definitely will be coming back with the whole family more regularly read more

1st Dumpling N Noodle - steamed pork and shrimp shu mai so good - Noodles Near Me - Montclair, California

If we're craving dumplings & noodles but don't want to wait as long as we typically do at Din Tai Fung, this is one of our go-to spots! They can still get pretty busy, but we're usually seated much quicker & don't have to deal with those super long wait times. The portions here are pretty generous, the food comes out really fast after ordering, & the staff is usually so sweet & welcoming. The older gentleman who is often there is especially friendly & always so smiley whenever we come in. It really makes the experience feel welcoming! Everything we've tried has been really yummy, & of course the dumplings are a must. My personal favorite is the walnut honey shrimp! I will say, though, on our most recent visit the portion was noticeably smaller & it didn't come with any walnuts :( I was definitely a little bummed about that since the walnuts are part of what I love about the dish! Hopefully it was just an off day because it's usually much better. Overall, a solid spot when you're craving dumplings, noodles & Chinese food without wanting to wait forever! read more

1st Dumpling is pretty good. Their Dumplings are my least favorite thing I've had. Maybe I'm just spoiled having been to Din Thai Fong. Another thing that I don't like is why in the world do they only sale soda in a can? I'm probably being petty but I find it quite annoying and cheap on their part. But overall the food is good. read more

Yum! Forgive me, my bestie and I were so excited to eat I forgot to get pics :) I was surprised at how large this restaurant was, nice ambiance, good playlist while we were there too. We ordered chicken stir fried udon, sichuan eggplant, pork and shrimp spicy wontons, and steamed custard buns for dessert. Everything was good, the udon was nice and bouncy and saucy. Huge serving of eggplant that was also saucy and delicious. We thought the pork and shrimp wontons were okay, but spice level was on point. The steamed custard buns were really good, perfectly steamed and a nice sweet treat to finish the meal. Service was quick and they were really attentive in refilling water. Overall, this is a nice place for some good Chinese food. It seems like a pretty popular place too as a lot of tables were filled. read more

Service isn't great. We ordered water for the table, but they wouldn't give the children any. I had to ask them again since children also drink water. But then they gave everyone ice except the kids. It's a 95 degree day. So then I had to ask again for ice. Ordered pan fried pork buns. Then 5 minutes later waiter comes back to say it's sold out. I ordered the xiao long bao but they don't even serve ginger, you have to ask for it. Waiter asked if I want the bowls for it and I said yes, yet he never came back. I over heard the table behind me order the chocolate dumpling so right away, I ordered it too. Yet the waiter right away said it was sold out without even checking. Regardless if they really were sold out of all these things, it was overall not a great experience. The food I did get was decent, but not enough to bring me back. read more

1st Dumpling N Noodle - This is what $20 gets you - Noodles Near Me - Montclair, California

As most places are closed on a Monday, we were lucky to stumble into 1st Dumpling. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the floors and tables were. No sticky surfaces at all! They have a bunch of lunch deals on the back of their menu. I got the salt and pepper shrimp. It came with veggies, rice (you can choose steamed or fried), a cheese wonton, a vegetable roll and soup - (either hot and sour or egg drop). Unbelievable crunch! And for $11.99, it was a generous portion too. Couldn't finish it so I took the leftovers home. Those fried pork buns are worth the visit - they give you a ladle to catch all the soup with. I bit into one to let the soup out because it was very, very hot. The broth is umami and flavorful - it took me back to when I was a little girl and went to Chinatown in Manila - food over there tasted like this! The bottom is crunchy so I suggest eating it while it's hot. It contrasts nicely with the softness of the pork inside. Excellent mouth feel. I loved the pork chop over fried rice. It was a touch greasy but packed with flavor. The pork wasn't dry or over cooked. I appreciated that. I gave them 4 stars because the Dan Dan noodles barely had any sauce. We took this to go and when we got home I was very disappointed because I had to come up with a sauce to supplement it. Had they put a reasonable amount on it (not just a teaspoon's worth), I would've definitely rated them 5 stars. This is a place to bring the gang to. Lots of room for everyone and the menu is sure to have something even for the pickiest of eaters. And the service is always with a smile - the folks here really want to please. They really do love attending to their customers. read more

Came in during a weekday lunch and had a great time with delicious food. Enjoyed all the food that I got. I didn't get the chance to take a picture of the dandan noodles because I ate it right away and even got another order for take out! The beef rolls is one of the best I've ever had! Loved the chili oil but it could be spicier. The pan fried buns had amazing texture! Friendly servers and fast service. Will definitely go back! read more

1st Dumpling N Noodle - Dumplings are awesome - Noodles Near Me - Montclair, California

Stopped by on Sunday afternoon there was no line. Restaurant looks decent as typical Chinese restaurants. Menu offers a wide range of selection. Food came out quickly and service was friendly. We went with pork xiaolongbao, house special chow mein, and sauté chicken with green beans. The xiaolongbao is juicy and flavorful while chowmein was perfectly seasoned. Green beans and chicken was also our favorite as he Ren bean was crispy while chicken strips were tender. Good place to stop by if you have craving for Chinese foods. read more

Ordered some dumplings, fried rice, and orange chicken. Orange chicken was delicious, very lightly battered which is the way I like it! We ordered the chocolate dumplings (10/10) and accidentally spilled some of the chocolate on our fried rice. We let the staff know, and they kindly remade it for us which was nice of them, even though they didn't have to. The environment was very relaxed and inviting-- nice to bring your kids along. We'll definitely be back! read more

I really enjoy this place the few times that I have been here. The service and staff are always great and welcoming, and they have a wide variety of options to choose from on the menu. The quality of the food is great as well. I particularly enjoy the cucumber salad (better than DTF imo), the BBQ pork buns, the fried rice, and the xiao long bao. The only note I'd give is that the last few times I have been here, the xiao long bao wrapping wasn't very good, and the soup dumplings would stick to the steam tray wrapper, which caused the dumplings to rip and soup to spill out. Other than that, this place is overall a great spot. read more

I'm a bit snobby when it comes to Chinese food, so suffice it to say that this place came as a surprise. The service here is great as they are not just cordial, but actually friendly and welcoming. The seats were comfortable and it's a rather spacious restaurant. This is kind of tucked away in a little corner of other restaurants near the Montclair mall. The food was good, although the sauce for the chicken feet was a little watery. The pork chop fried rice was solid, but a little greasy. The fried pork dumplings were good, but just a little doughy. We'll be coming back, though. read more

Wanted some XLBs so tried this place for the first time. Xiao long baos- not a lot of flavor in meat, a bit rubbery Chicken fried rice- over seasoned with something that made it a darker in color, a bit salty Honey walnut shrimp- light in sweetness, heavy in mayo Orange chicken- thick in sauce, light in chicken Salt & pepper pork- flavored like it was popcorn chicken, lots of 7 spices Chocolate dumpling- kids fave Coconut lava balls- crunchy, not too sweet, flavor like tapioca Good service. Only 5 tables with customers. Lots of workers to help us. Heading back? Most likely not. read more

The inside is spacious and you can see the people making dumplings right on the spot. The service is good, and the food is too, but there's not much to write home about. The food is satisfactory for Asian cuisine in this neighborhood. Service was very attentive, friendly, very helpful and the staff checked in on customers frequently. We ordered a variety of dishes that seemed to all missed some ingredient. It didn't taste authentic Asian cuisine. Some were bland others were too salty. The dim sum and xia long bao soup was missing flavors or had flavors that our party was not use to. The steam char shu buns were dry and pork was too sweet. It could be our palette but if you crave dumplings, this location does do its best to satisfy that Chinese food craving. read more

When my mom was out of town, I went to stay with my dad to keep an eye on his health and to make sure he was fed. One day after work, I picked up 1st Dumpling N Noodle for us to try something new. This restaurant is located on the outskirts of the Montclair Plaza. Parking was available if you don't mind a little walk. I called in and ordered their Honey Walnut Shrimp ($19.99), Chili Oil Pork Wontons ($11.99), Pork and Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup ($13.99), Crystal Shrimp Dumplings ($6.99), and Char Sui BBQ Pork Buns ($9.99). I still had to wait for a little bit after I arrived and paid for the food. Staff seemed busy and overwhelmed. Not too friendly or welcoming. The service doesn't inspire me to consider eating in person. We ate immediately when I got home and snacked on a little bit of everything. The honey walnut shrimp was definitely the best item, and the only item my dad liked. Everything else was dry or bland or both. It's such a drag to eat stuff just to get rid of it. No enjoyment. We basically agreed we would come back for the honey walnut shrimp togo, but nothing else. I'll come back if my dad requests some honey walnut shrimp, but nothing else. read more

Food is ok, too much msg. 雞肉炒河 has a lot of meat but not enough rice noodle. Rice noodle is all broken up, far from Cantonese fried noodle standard. Price reasonable. Xiao Lung Bao taste is far from industry standard. This restaurant is more cater for non-Chinese customers. You can tell when you see little or no Chinese customers at the restaurant. No comparison to authentic Chinese food. This is "Americanized Chinese food" such as Panda Express or PF Chang. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The server had a very poor attitude, and I am concerned that there may have been deceptive billing practices. I ordered two Lunch Special Beef Noodle dishes and one Lunch Special Walnut Shrimp. When the bill arrived, I noticed that the two beef noodle dishes were correctly charged at the lunch special price, but the walnut shrimp was charged at the dinner price. I politely asked her about it and explained that I had ordered the lunch special. She responded, "You've already eaten it." I told her that I had specifically ordered the lunch special. She then said that the lunch special was a smaller portion. My response was, "How was I supposed to know the difference between your lunch and dinner portions? I ordered the lunch special, and when I placed my order, I was pointing directly at the lunch menu." She became visibly upset and insisted that I pay the higher price. I firmly told her that I would not pay until the bill was corrected. She eventually brought back a revised bill, but instead of simply correcting the walnut shrimp to the lunch special price, she changed the two beef noodle dishes from the lunch special price to the dinner price. In other words, she corrected one mistake while creating another, which made me seriously question whether this was intentional. To make matters worse, when she returned with the revised bill, she simply dropped it on the table without saying a word. Her attitude throughout the entire interaction was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. In the end, I decided not to argue any further and paid the bill as presented. However, I left feeling extremely disappointed by both the service and the way the bill was handled. This experience seriously undermined my confidence in the restaurant, and I hope management will take customer service and billing accuracy much more seriously. read more

Omg. This place is so good. I've dined in and ordered to-go - both were equally great. The last time I dined here, we ordered the following: -pork & shrimp xlb ($13.99 for 10 pcs) -pan fried chicken & corn dumplings ($12.99) -house special stir fry udon ($15.99) The xbl, by and large, is one of the best versions I've eaten around these parts and I've eaten many. The dumpling skin delicately holds all the soup. Not only that, they use a big ole piece of shrimp in the filling. You can't go wrong with any of their stir fry noodles. The noodles noodle hard - they're bouncy and the sauce holds so much flavor. They don't skimp on the toppings either. Cucumbers are great. Pan fried dumplings are great. Everything I've ordered thus far has been superb. Don't be deterred by the name - 1st Dumpling N Noodle makes very excellent dumplings and noodles. Why they're located on the outskirts of a lonely mall is a mystery to me. read more

I've ordered takeout here once or twice, but decided to dine in today. The difference was insane. Yes, it's also very good if you order it for takeout. But, having all the food fresh, made such a huge difference. I ordered the Xiao Long Bao, Chicken Fried Rice, Beef Roll, and Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. The Xiao Long Bao had a nicely thin wrapper and was very juicy. The Chicken Fried Rice was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. So flavorful and they put so much chicken. The Beef Roll was my fav. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and had the right savory/sweet filling. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup was extremely spicy. It was good but be careful lol Everything was absolutely amazing. The service was really great as well and the food came out super quick! I live right down the street so this will be a staple! Thank you for the amazing food and service! :) read more

I ordered takeout and it was terrible. I got the chicken with corn dumplings, fried rice, broccoli beef, chicken wontons in chili oil, and BBQ pork buns.
