I can't believe I would recommend this place to people. We saw some of the menus on yelp indicating lunch ending at 3:30 and some photos indicating 3pm. Called at 2:50 indicating we would arrive 25 minutes later. Come on in she said. We get there and as soon as we asked to be seated for lunch the lady at the front desk shakes her head and firmly says, "No, too late." As we explain what we're told, she seems to already know what happened. She says the other lady shouldn't have told you that. No apologies, nothing, but treating us like we're a nuisance to her day. Asked to speak to the lady who told us misinformation and she also had the same attitude of exasperation. I hardly ever leave bad reviews, but the unapologetic pompous attitude of these ladies prompts me to write this review with the hope that management will train employees to offer much improved customer service. read more

We tried 1st Dumpling N Noodle and will definitely be returning! We dropped by on a Saturday around 11 and were seated promptly. The restaurant has a pretty casual vibe and there is a lot of seating! When seated, your table will have a barcode that can be scanned and you can order with your phone, which we really liked! Our server was also very nice and helpful. Our food came out within a few minutes and we tried some noodles in scallion oil, the pan fried beef roll and the sheng jian bao. I wanted to try a place a bit closer to home that had string beans and was able to find this place on Yelp with great reviews. I ordered the stir fried strings beans and pan fried beef rolls. They were both delicious and I would definitely come here again to try other dishes. Thumblings has competition! This is comparable to them based on prices, quality and food selection. It is not far from the Montclair mall too. This doesn't have a massive line unlike Thumblings or Din Tai Fung. It's conveniently located off the 10 fwy. The food is delicious and served hot. Whenever I return from a trip I usually crave Asian food and this was such a great find after landing at nearby ONT airport. XLB's rival those of DTF without the hefty price. Pork chop fried rice was also on point. Pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings were similar to those at Thumbling. But for me THE BEST PAN FRIED PORK BUNS were discovered here!!! I just came back from HK and tried Michelin rated Cheung Hing Kee pan fried buns and I can honestly say that these here at 1st Dumpling blow those out of the water, hands down! The dumplings were filling and tasty definitely paired with their spicy vinegar and chili oil! The service was great we got a table right away and our server was very kind. My favorite were the xiolongbao and shrimp sui mai. The steamed bbq pork buns were alright it was more sauce heavy than meat filled but we still enjoyed it. We visited on a Friday night at about 8pm. They were busy but not full, and there was no one up front to check us in. There was someone walking back and forth but no one attended to us until we asked to be seated. At which point, they quickly ushered us to an available booth. Same thing happened to a party after us. But once we were seated, service was great: our order was taken and served very quickly. Ordered XLB, pan fried dumplings as well as stir fried string beans and hot and sour soup. The dumplings were ok. Not as hot as I like and the skin was a bit thick, though not unreasonably so. The soup and stir/fry were way too salty. Which was a pity, because I could tell the string beans were fried well, with a good amount of char and crisp without the beans being overcooked. It was just too salty. The ambiance was just a regular eatery. Not bad not fabulous. I think there are far better dumpling/Chinese restaurants in the area. Maybe their noodles are better. As someone who grew up eating Chinese food, I was disappointed. read more

The wontons were super tasty but the red chili oil was a bit of a miss. The chili oil lacked flavor overall, not salty, toasty, or spicy. The dan Dan noodles had all the right smells in terms of the sesame and peanut flavors, but it was not spicy at all. Although, I will say that I loved the noodle texture and I would love to give their other noodle and dumpling dishes a try. Stopped by on Sunday, 04/21/24 for the first time during lunch. Upon entering, we had to wait for a bit as there was only one employee assisting. We ordered the following: - 1 House Special Fried Rice = $13.99 - 1 House Special Chow Mein = $13.99 - 1 Steamed Custard Buns (4) = $8.99 - 1 Steam Shrimp & Pork Siu Mai (8) = $12.99 SUBTOTAL = $49.96 TAX = $4.50 TOTAL = $54.46 Food was okay but it didn't taste as authentic as we hoped it to be. It was still delicious regardless. In terms of the environment and ambience, this place is huge and clean. More and more customers started coming later on during the day. Cons/Opportunities for Improvement: When I received my receipt to pay, I paid and gave my credit card. After that, I was given another receipt that stated $77.32. I was confused as my receipt stated $54.46. Long story short, one of the employees mix and matched customers' credits cards to different receipts, so I paid someone else receipt (the $77.32 one). I also paid my correct bill (the $54.46 one). The Manager stepped in and fixed the issue - but you can tell he was confused and frustrated. He apologized as well. Overall 3/5 due to that experience (my first time encountering this). Moral of the story: please keep your receipt and ALWAYS check that you were correctly billed for the correct receipt and dishes. read more

What a great find! We were on our way back home from Palm Springs and wanted to grab some lunch and found this dumpling spot. The xiao long bao was excellent, with lots of juice and a nice gingery flavor. The scallion pancakes were perfectly light and crispy. The sesame balls were so good we orders an extra round to bring home. They are a bit smaller but come with 8. I actually think it is better because there is a nice ratio of red bean to crispy outer layer. The pan fried pork buns and the crispy wings were really good too. 1st dumpling gives our usual go-to in Montery Park a run for their money. Finally a place around here that sells Xiao Long Bao. It is in the same plaza as the Montclair Mall. There is plenty of parking and the place is quite big. I wanted to write a review after coming here for Togo and dine in. If you eat here it is pretty clean. The staff is nice and they even think of kids with a kids plate and kids water with plastic utensils. Food One of the things that stood out was how fresh they make the food. Upon ordering the Xiao Long Bao, you can go watch them make it. We tried the BBQ pork which was decent with the honey, and had the vegetable bun. I would say the food is quite good, but it is a little more on the pricier side if you were to order this somewhere else. You would save the trip if you live locally. My daughter found this place, so we ate here for dinner last night. She ordered online, so we actually did takeout to eat at home. When we picked up the food, it seemed really clean inside and out of the restaurant. The lady who helped us find our pick-up order was really nice and sweet. For dinner, we ordered pork fried rice as our main course. It was super yummy!!! It was one of the best rice dishes I've ever had! We also ordered a 10 count chicken and corn dumplings.
