We got the meat option. They open daily at 1PM for lunch and it's €1,00 for water if you need one. Take away only and no seating inside the pasta shop. A lot of people just ate near their store on the street... It's very close to the Spanish Steps so it's pretty easy to find. Right across from Pompi Tiramisu so you can get a dessert after the pasta. The noodles were chewy, great flavors and the pork crispy (looked like bacon than pancetta)... For 5 euros it's such a steal. I saw a bunch of local students swarming the outside of the store while chomping away at their pasta... it has to be good right? The store is clean, small and has big trash bins inside in case you're finished with your pasta and want to throw away the container... I ended up getting some dried pasta to bring home. During our stay in Rome I went here on two separate occasions. We were on a mission to the tiramisu dessert place across the way and stumbled on this place. The line out the door caught our attention and the 4,50 euro sign for pasta was too affordable to pass up. Pastificio Guerra usually has two handmade pasta options for you to choose from. An option with meat and one vegetarian one. The menu was different on both days we went. The first day we came they had a bolognese meat one with a mushroom options. On the second day we came they had a gnocchi with red sauce and few meatballs. I think they had the same mushroom vegetarian one they had on the first day as well. We had the meat ones on each day and they were both good. A portion was a good size and filled us up. The pastas were flavorful and came out hot. Crazy cheap pasta shop near the Spanish Steps! At lunch time, they have 2 types of pastas available for €4.50 as of August 2022. The portions are pretty good and service of quick and efficient, pay with cash or card. This place is mostly takeout only, but you can stand around the pasta shelves to eat as well (no seats). Although located near the steps, please don't eat there or in front of the shops around it as to not block the traffic and potentially also get fined for eating at the steps. The pasta itself is actually a bit so-so. The carbonara one was cooked perfectly al dente but a bit saltier than I would like, but otherwise delicious! The spaghetti one was a bit overcooked to be more of a noodle, and the sauce was delicious but lacked a bit of that something-something (and some salt). I think the best taste would be to combine the two when we ate it. However, its hard to complain about €4.50 pasta! Very strong fish/seafood flavor which was revolting. The couple before me ate a quarter of their zucchini pasta then tossed it and left. The pasta also tasted extremely starchy. Also, their customer service needs some work. The employee was not directly rude to me, but barked at a few girls who came in after me asking for an additional fork. He did not give the extra fork. Certainly not the "best pasta I've ever eaten" but really really solid for €4! I knew about the joint thanks to the guidebooks (yeah, I'm a bit of a planner) and as my travel buddies and I found ourselves at the Spanish Steps and in need of lunch, I steered us towards Pastificio Guerra. It wasn't quite opening time but the line was already forming, and my friends nearly revolted. I pressed on, and we queued up. Thankfully, the line moved fast. Not long to wait if there's only two pasta options on offer and it's mostly takeaway. The portions are solid - plenty for a decent lunch and even enough for two meals if you're a light eater. When we went they had a creamy mushroom pasta and a red sauce penne. I opted for the red sauce and it was really nice, the pasta was well cooked and had just a bit of a bite to it. It's possible to eat in if you're determined (standing room only) and apparently there's a little wine available if you do so (I saw one person drinking but couldn't spot the wine itself) and there are also bottles of water scattered about. We took ours away to perch on some planters in front of a newspaper kiosk and inhaled our cheap and easy meal before heading off to the next adventure. read more

This place is good but not great. While visiting Rome last year, we saw the queue and hopped in it. The line was crowded with locals and a few tourists and whenever a place is predominantly frequented by people who live nearby, you know it's a legit food place. Basically you get two choices that change every day: Pasta #1 or Pasta #2. It's the luck of the draw what will be on offer, but the pasta is fresh and made in house every day. Each plate costs 4 Euro, making for a cheap and tasty meal in Rome. Our choices were both tube pastas (bummer, I was hoping for some thin noodles or tortellini): ziti pomodoro and a rigatoni carbonara. We ordered a plate of each. The pastas were good but certainly not the best I've ever had. The sauce was mixed with the pasta and barely coated the noodles. I know this is the "right" way to eat pasta but I could've used just a teeny bit more sauce. The portion sizes were large and folks who aren't big eaters would have no problems sharing one plate. This has to be one of the best dining bargains in all of Italy. There's hardly any space in the restaurant but there are a few small counters where you can stand and eat. Most likely you'll have to take it out and find a spot on the street to eat standing up (which isn't exactly smiled upon in Rome). I've known about Pastificio Guerra due to my research on cheap eats in Rome. However I only stumbled on this place on the last full day of my Rome trip. This pasta shop is very noteworthy in an area near the Spanish Steps: most businesses here are your luxury brands and the restaurant prices here reflect this. Like an oasis in the middle of the dessert, this is an oasis in the area that charges €4 for a fresh serving of pasta. To keep the prices that low the shop is small, so effectively what they are serving is to-go pasta. To-go pasta is packaged in plastic containers and include a fork. They also keep their menu very simple: only two choices of pasta daily, one meat option and one vegetarian option. The cup of wine is allowed only if you are eating there and signs are posted stating that you can't picnic in the Spanish Steps itself. You're only paying €4, you can't get everything. I arrived on a Sunday close to about 12:40 and the line was starting to form. By the time it opened the line was close to about 40 people but it does go by quickly, especially if you only have 2 choices. The meat option was tortellini amatriciana. Ordering was hassle-free. I ate across from the entrance to the store. Pasta was filling yet I was able to save room for dessert by walking towards my hotel. Moral lesson: cheap and tasty food will always be there if you know how to find it. Even the locals who work in the area have to be able to eat somehow. read more

I tried both mushroom pasta and something sausage-filled with tomato sauce: both were passably good. Typical of cooking dried pasta, some of the flat noodles stuck together during cooking. Food is served in a plastic take-out container and if you stand and eat in the shop (there's no seating) you can have a beverage at no extra charge, including wine. We came on several occasions for the convenience and the price point while we were walking around. There were a lot of times where we didn't want to have a sit-down meal since we were trying to take in as many of the local sights as possible, so this spot fit the bill nicely. What we tried: - Pesto pasta: Jaime liked this the best out of all that we experienced during our trip. It was good, but it was a little oily for me. - Gnocchi: I liked these a lot, but they are heavy. If you're not into a super heavy consistency of carbs and cheese - you might want to choose a different variety. - Carbonara: I think this was my favorite. Not only was it semi light, but the nice bits of bacon intertwined with the noodles was delicious. Again, it's a big portion, so when you're reaching the end, you will encounter oilier noodles. Still good. - Funghi: Big noodles with pieces of mushrooms inside. Perfect if you're vegetarian, but even the meat eaters will love it. On this trip, the noodles were bigger and the sauce was on the creamy side. I loved ever moment of it. - Pomodoro: Simple dish with marinara and chunks of tomato. Great if you're looking for something easy and not too heavy. You're more than welcome to take your food to go or eat there. They don't have tables, but a lot of counter space for you to stand and enjoy your food. A lot of the locals seemed to stop in and take their orders to go while some of the tourists opted to take their bites over towards the Spanish Steps nearby. I think they frown upon doing that... but we saw it on numerous occasions. A huge perk is that they offer free wine and water with your meal as well. While traversing the city I stumbled upon Pastafico on accident and what a delightful accident it was! This is a tiny, and I mean, tiny place with big flavor. Yes... 4 euro. I happily grabbed my food and left to find a spot to sit and enjoy. On my walk to find a location I noticed almost every other person with the same container of pasta in their hand. My first bite was heaven, albeit the exhausted and starvation from my day if waking, but it was amazing. HIDDEN GEM!!! This traditional pasta shop serves two kinds of prepared pasta for lunch from 1-3pm daily. It is so fresh and delicious and a steal at only 4 Euros a plate. Plus- they will give you a glass (well a plastic cup) of wine to go with your meal if you ask. I went for a few days while in Rome and the carbonara was my favorite, so delicious. 4 euros for a rather large portion of pasta. You can't beat that price in Rome. Just a few steps from this place i was sold one scoop of gelato for 5 euros. You can eat it in (with free wine) or take it to go (no free wine). The place really defines the meaning of "hole in the wall" expression. It is very tiny and very crowded all the time. So eating in would be tricky because you have no place to sit or even stand. We took our order "to go" and went to the nearby McDonalds ( i know it is awful ) but it was raining and we needed some warm place to sit down. The pasta was very good. The sauce was a little bit too salty for me but overall it was good. They don't take credit cards and prefer the exact change. So get your 4 euros ready. read more
