I decided to pop in this restaurant for 2 reasons, besides being hungry of course. First it was conveniently on the way to my shopping destination and second I looked up the reviews and it was rated 4 stars. I'm not sure what about this place would command anything over a 3 star and the only reason I'm giving it a 3 star rather than a 2 star is because of the older gentleman who attended me. He was friendly, accommodating and professional. There was also a young man who came to take my dessert order who was also friendly and attentive. The place was clean and most who stopped by for a meal were tourists. That should have been a red flag for me. Nonetheless I ordered one of the daily specials, Bacalhau à Brás (shredded cod mixed with fried potatoes and eggs) which is one of many cod dishes typical to Portugal. I also ordered a 1/2 bottle of vinho verde Muralhas which is a well known white (green) wine typical to the country. I received my dish surprisingly quickly and instantly I could tell it didn't look right. I attempted to eat a bite and I was right. It tasted like leftovers from earlier in the day and they tried to attempt to revive it by mixing in some egg but that just made it soggy where you could still see the egg white uncooked. To top it off it wasn't even hot. Luke warm at best. I was extremely disappointed and I did something I never do... I sent it back. The waiter was so nice he offered to get me something else so I ordered the bitoque (pan fried steak with a fried egg on top). At least I know that would be decent as they had to make it fresh. Not the best but good enough. Finally the highlight was the dessert, a combination of condensed milk, cinnamon, vanilla wafer cookies and cream. Good recommended by a young man who took my order. I must say that somewhat made up for my first plate of choice. Being a native Portuguese I should have known not to expect much from a place located in a touristic part of town. Note to self... stay away from touristy eateries read more
