    Bifana

Came here to grab a quick bifana sandwich in my short stay in Lisbon. This place was recommended by my tour guide. I was really disappointed as my bifana sandwich was cold and flavorless. There was no sauce either. It was as generic as it gets. Go somewhere else.

Bifana - enjoyed on the town square

This place was a great way to try out a bifana while visiting Lisbon. We had read that this is a simple but classic Portuguese dish: pork marinated in garlic, paprika and white wine, served on a soft roll. Sometimes with mustard or piri piri sauce. Some even add cheese. We were travel weary and had a light appetite so two sandwiches and two drinks came to somewhere around 15 euros - great deal! We sat outside facing the square and it was a nice experience.

Came here for lunch on a Monday and the place was relatively packed Pros: - The Bitoque was yummy, especially the runny egg on top - The Bifana was okay, pretty dry. Mustard helped with the dryness Cons: - Waited 20 min to get the menu and place an order - Chicken noodle soup was a bit on the saltier end and lukewarm

Casa das Bifanas is an authentic and tiny traditional Portugal restaurant located closely in the central of Lisbon. It was crowed when we were there but the wait was not bad. Their service was not so friendly but adequate. We ordered their signature Bifanas and grilled cod platter. The pork in the Bifanas was amazingly juicy even looked dry and welled flavored, it was braised long time in a huge pot by the window. The grilled cod was the best cod, not chewy but soft, we had in Lisbon. Overall, we will definitely recommend tourists to stop by here, the food was delicious with reasonable price.

Cute little place. Great food, friendly staff. The place was packed when we came in for breakfast. Got a little quieter when we left. Would recommend this restaurant.

Bifanas-*** Other food and service.- * Bifanas sandwiches are simmered Pork slices.I'm not crazy about this item in general, but it is one of the tastier establishments in Lisbon. Prices are reasonable and it seems to be popular with locals. However everything else on the menu is subpar. Unfortunately, I got their worse waiter in the house and in Portugal overall. I thought it was because I was a tourist, but I saw him treating everyone else worse. He literally threw silverware on the tables, and got irritated when anyone asked a question Or dared to ask for a menu. If you're waiting for the tram and decide to come in, i recommend ordering an omelette or a Bifana and a fresh orange juice and call it a day.

This small shop is famous for their signature bifana. Bifanas are a traditional Portugese sandwich with pork. The pork were big chunky pieces and very juicy, pairing perfectly with the crusty bread roll that the meat was stuffed between. The meat itself did not have much flavor though. I was also told to put mustard into it which did help to enhance the flavor a bit more. It was definitely a very affordable price and the sandwich itself is good to try, especially to snack on as you look for other food.

Looking for a quick and tasty lunch? Then grab a Bifana from this self proclaimed " House of Bofinas"! Go where the locals go, I always say and this place was packed with local bus drivers and street cleaners on the day I was there. I grabbed a table out on the patio and waited for my server to come and take my order. If you don't have time to sit and want to save a little money, go inside and stand and eat at the counter . . . Either way you are in for a real treat! A Bifana is a pork sandwich where the pork is cooked perfectly and the warm garlicky juice runs into the crusty bun. Add an order of fries and a cold beer and you have the perfect lunch! Because it's not a big tourist place no one speaks English so grab a menu and plan to point at what you want but the servers were great at understanding even me, so I know you will fare equally well. They also serve breakfast and a range of pastries and cakes. You may have to hunt for this place as it is often hidden by the big "hop on hop off" buses that load in the square but keep looking. It's definitely worth finding!

Amazing hole in the wall bifana shop in Lisbon! Authentic, cheap, and delicious. Ate multiple sandwiches at the counter, plus fries and beer. Very crowded for lunch but worth it. Good, fast service. If you are looking for a quick, delicious bite to eat, definitely check this place out!

Classic bifana with a sloppy hit of Peri Peri sauce

Right around the corner from the Mundial Hotel where I was staying. Hits all the marks for inexpensive local food in a tourist area. Lots of choices on the menu other than the bifanas, but when in Rome, or in this case, Lisbon, you go with the flow. Unlike the experiences of other reviewers here, my waiter spoke excellent unaccented American English, and we actually joked around a bit about his being in the witness protection program. My sandwich arrived quickly, seemed a bit bland at first, but with a couple of hits of the Peri Peri sauce which was on the table, and accompanied by a beer, it certainly hit the spot. The "Portuguese" roll, incidentally, was not what I'm familiar with here in the eastern US, more like a soft whole wheat bun. Not better or worse, but different. Usually I opt for eating outside when I can, but in this case, I don't see the charm. The restaurant is on a city square, near a metro stop, and lots of busses. You're surrounded by traffic fumes, pigeons, locals, tourists, commuters, and as I was to learn on another day, pickpockets. Had every intention of returning to sample something else on their menu, but there are too many other things to see, do, and eat, while visiting Lisbon.

That is exactly the "good" problem Landeau has as besides their famous chocolate cake, all they have are beverages, inadvertently making their sign outside with the proclamation "When in doubt, try chocolate cake!" kind of hilarious. Once you've huffed and puffed your way up one of Lisbon's stairmaster hills, the darkened and vintage feeling interior of this particular Landeau feels very welcome. Although there is ample seating for the size of this store, the ample line of people waiting to get in from the outside might make getting a seat difficult nonetheless. I do like the regular lattes here but let's face it, any beverage you get here is really meant to be a sidekick to the main star of the show, Landeau's famous chocolate cake. And it is indeed, the best slice of chocolate cake you'll ever have, and that is not hyperbole. Layered and textured, but pillowy and light, it's really difficult to describe what a beautiful heavenly experience eating a chocolate cake at Landeau is. It's like treating your mouth to the most sumptuous and comforting experience it's ever going to have when eating something and you never want to end. And for under 5 euros, it almost feels like a steal. I really do consider going to a Landeau one of the highlights of my trip to Lisbon and urge everyone to put it on their must eats here. Even yes, over the egg tarts.

This means I can now say who made them best, and more importantly, why. The interesting thing is, I didn't think the pastel de nata here were particularly great, on any dimension - fairly flimsy, doughy crust, with a pudding-like, drippy filling that was too sweet and not quite eggy enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat them any time someone offered, they were still tasty, you just have a ton of options nearby, some of them notably better than the ones here. I also tried one of their fancy-looking cookies, which definitely looked fancier than it tasted. Was just a cookie. Dessert-wise I was unimpressed. They were also always fairly busy, which made ordering feel a bit rushed. So why am I still giving this bakery 5 stars, and why did I come back here a couple more times, including to get food to-go the morning we left, to get food to take on the plane with us? For exactly one reason, and it's a weird one: oddly enough, the samosas here are the best samosas I've ever had, and by a wide margin. You'd think the best samosas ever would come from an Indian restaurant or bakery, but nope, they're here. The other small savory food items we tried were also pretty good, but the samosas are the juiciest, meatiest, most perfectly bursting with spices samosas I've had. Who knew? They also had pretty solid espresso and pretty solid free-squeezed orange juice, but those aren't hard to find in Portugal (I miss seeing inexpensive fresh squeezed OJ all over the city... especially *truly* fresh squeezed, to order, from whole oranges. Portuguese OJ definitely was the best. Though obviously not *better* than other places you can get the same thing around - probably indeed the same oranges. Definitely better than anywhere you can get fresh OJ for a few bucks in the US, though, if you can find such a place. :p)

Funny enough, they do sell a decent number of other pastries that are pretty fancy looking, and have price tags to match (higher than other bakeries in town, or at least the ones I went to.) But I wasn't here for those, and if you're smart, you won't be either. Their pastel de nata are, or at least were as of ~3 months ago, 1.50 euro, which is very reasonable, especially for how good they are. Perfect crust, crunchy but not crumbly or dry, perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, eggy custard that stays intact after biting into it instead of falling out like pudding... and the perfect, marshmallow-y crème brulee torched finish. Great cortado, too, and very reasonably priced. It was fairly busy, but there was also a decent amount of space to stand and drink a cortado inside without feeling cramped (which was good, since at that specific time I was here, right when I got inside, it started pouring rain.)
