Hadn't been here for years - we thought we'd try it again because we used to love it. We were not disappointed! Excellent - nice change from the regular Italian restaurants - Pastabilities is very creative with their pasta. Some standards - and alot of new adventures. Calamari appetizer was great and the dessert was also excellent - cheesecake from a local baker. Casual - very little wait - nice wine selection and they have Red Oak on draft! Excellent service - our server had a great personality and offered wonderful suggestions. Alot of repeat local customers - which is a sure sign for consistently good. We WILL be back - very soon! One of my favorite Greensboro restaurants! I love supporting a local small business. Cindy, the owner, is personable and attentive, the wait staff is friendly and the food is awesome. Best fries in town, if you can believe that, and the meaty lasagna is to die for. Build your own pasta if you're feeling adventurous or go with one of the excellent entrees on the menu. When looking for new restaurants to try with my wife, I found a national news site with a 'top ten Greensboro restaurants' list with this on it. A quick view of Yelp showed a favorable review, so we were off for a surprise dinner on Saturday night! We got an order of mozzarella crescents to start off our very hungry date. They were good! They were also six dollars for three, which wasn't enough to share between two people. For that price I'd have expected a three or four person appetizer. My wife ordered chicken carbonara and I ordered the Huey, Louie, Andouille, a plate loaded with three different sausages and shrimp over linguine with a mushroom sauce. They were both incredibly reminiscent of double servings of lean cuisine; sauces were bland and forgettable, dishes had no seasonings added at all, the meat was low quality and bland, and the presentation included no sides. Two stale lukewarm biscuits are provided at the beginning and not refilled. Value: a place specializing in pasta is skimping on extras and portions (leftovers aren't happening), and serving a very forgettable meal. A meal for two, no beverages and an overpriced appetizer came out to be 40$ after tip (service was standard, the food was not her fault; she got a 18% tip). We stopped halfway through our plates, got our check as fast as possible, and went to Village Tavern for dessert. The atmosphere and the fact the food isn't offensively bad keeps the reviews moderate here, but Greensboro has so much better to offer. You can do better with Bertolli's at home. Try Vito. read more

First off this is the chic, quaint little restaurant off of Battleground with kind of a dim and romantic type of ambiance to it which is nice. The wait staff has been very kind the times that I've been. It's a pretty small restaurant and when it's crowded it gets pretty claustrophobic. It has a bar with a decent wine selection at the back as well. The food is so-so. The portions are pretty small but I definitely give the restaurant credit for allowing customers to build their own pastas adding their own ingredients. I would definitely order a salad along with my pasta to fill me up. There are better more authentic Italian options out there, for sure, but for the price I can't complain too much. read more

Ate here for the first time a few weeks ago and really the enjoyed the experience. No wait time for a Saturday night (!!!) and the service was relatively quick. We usually head to Pastabilities for a late lunch. I love their salads and have tried all of them. It's true they are smaller than what is offered in other eateries but the ingredients are always fresh and tasty. It is an ample amount for me. Let me guess, you wondering why 2 stars??? After having heard and read so many "great things' about this restaurant I find myself in the same place .... and was disappointed that our experience wasn't better. We dined at night, ~7pm ,and didn't have to wait for a table, but It was 15 mins before our server stopped by to greet us and take our drink order, unfortunately this was indicative of things to come and I would say due to her inattentiveness she was mediocre at best, drinks were not refilled until past empty and she was very slow to bring things we asked for such as additional fresh pepper or rolls. When our food came out it was warm but not hot. Glancing around the restaurant was at about 75% capacity, and we observed the staff having the time to congregate and chat with each other in the far corner, so I don't think capacity was the issue. All the usual suspects are available, including a build your own pasta, plus burgers and sandwiches and the bread is amazing (though after a certain point - 2 rolls per person - they charge you, who does this in an Italian restaurant??). We order the Chicken Parm with linguini and the "Great Sea Caper". The chicken was over breaded, over sauced and under "cheesed", such a basic dish we're still not sure how this one wasn't amazing. The sauce was a typical red sauce, fresh but no layering of flavors, no notes of oregano or garlic to be found, the depth of a traditional Italian marinara was missing. The tomato clam sauce on the GSC was spot on - not too heavy, not too light, the seafood was perfectly cooked, though a bit light in representation but the flavors just worked. We did see the the owner come out on the floor, but she only interacted with tables of patrons that it appeared that she knew, she walked right by us twice without a 2nd glance or even a smile to speak to the tables on either side of us. The rating: food 3 stars and the service 2 stars ; there are other locally owned restaurants that do a better job with both. "The" reason we were excited to try this spot was we really like to support locally owned restaurants, with great food and service and heard that this was a place that you could do this - that the owner and staff were really interested in the experience of the diner. All of the comments we'd heard gave us great hope, the visit however left us completely underwhelmed. read more

The best restaurant in Greensboro unequivocally hands down. I am from the North and have been desperate to find a local bistro that could compete with the quality food and service of the Northeast. When I found Pastabilities I found it!! This gem offers the freshest and most intricate dishes. Most are health conscious and nutritious. There is the most creative offering of appetizers that I have ever seen in this region. Pastabilities is unique and would impress most anyone from friends to important clients. The ambiance is superb and offers a quaint old school charm that is unparalleled locally. I KNOW you will love it as much as me. This weekend was the first time my family and I have eaten here. We ordered calamari for an appetizer, my toddler had a the kids linguini and sauce, my husband ordered the California salad, and I had the eggplant parmigiana. I ordered mine without cheese, it came with cheese and no noodles. I asked the waitress about the pasta and she said there was a $3 extra charge for pasta and sauce. The menu did not state that, and it's pretty odd to serve eggplant parm without pasta. With that said, it was the best eggplant parm I've ever had! I doubt I would come back, but it was such an incredible dish!! The prices aren't bad, but the prices for the serving you get are way off! We all three had different items and all were served on the same size plate, all three of us also knocked our food off the sides of the plates because there was no room. My husband and toddler both left hungry, which isn't a great thing when we paid $40 for a dinner. Good food, good atmosphere, but wait staff could use some encouragement (I had to repeat several things and my food came out wrong) and the portion sizes compared to the prices could use adjusting. read more

I gave it a second shot after being underwhelmed the first time. The prices are decent, but it's ultimately rather boring food. The marinara isn't bad, though those dishes seem undersauced. Avoid the olive oil-based dishes altogether; you're going to get a bland, sticky mass of pasta. All in all, you can do better. read more

This place is what I consider one of the true gems of the Greensboro restaurant scene. This is the type of place that keeps one coming back time and time again. We have eaten at this restaurant before, so therefore were very surprised and disappointed with the service this evening. We placed our order and then waited and waited while other guests came, were served and left. The waitress kept apologizing, but still no food after 45 minutes. Now mind you, they were exceptionally busy, but our order was not complicated - a salad, 2 cups of soup, a meatloaf sandwich and an order of mozzaluna. Finally, my son-in-law went to the cashier and informed her that we would just pay for our drinks and the mozzaluna. This somehow got their attention and our food arrived at the table. They did try to make amends by offering us a complimentary desert. The food was good, as usual and the staff was nice. This experience just left us feeling somewhat slighted, even if it were unintentional. read more

This restaurant is so quaint, and so uummm, uuummmm good! I give this place 2 Thumbs up!! I come from New York City originally, and of course I know about "good" food...Pastabilities, is a place away from home for good Italian cooked meals. Not only will you be able to get a pre-designed dish made up of tons of Italian spices and herbs, but you can make up one yourself. Considering the prices and the ideal setting for a great cafe/restaurant settled right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Battleground, I would say the surrounding environment gets a makeover because of this restaurant. Thank you for bringing culture and diversity; missed so much being away from NY, to NC-Greensboro. It's needed and more of it is needed. You'll love the portions, the atmosphere is urban, yet vintage, with a trendy wait-staff. I wish the outfits were a little bit more formal, (hint: black khaki's or beige khaki's) but for what it's worth, I will not complain a bit, because the food is to die for. I have visited Pastabilities many times over the years. I even went to the one they had at Brassfield many years ago. The food used to be very good, with impeccable service. Sadly those days are long, long, long gone. In the hundred or so times I have been in I have never been approached by the owner. I have watched her so many times walk the dining room talking with guests but for some reason she never stopped at my table to thank me for my patronage. It seems that for some reason every time I go, the experience is worse than the time before. So last night was the last time I will ever enter that establishment. Took 10-15 minutes to have our order taken, our drinks would sit empty for 10-15 minutes at a time as well. The wrong meals were brought to our table, then when we got the right order, mine was missing part of the order. They couldn't even get the check right and when it was finally brought I had to wait 5 minutes to flag a different waitress down so I could get a pen to sign it and leave. If you want Italian, go to Positano's, the owner there is awesome and thanks me for my patronage every single I see him. Pastabilities is over priced, under serviced and I'm apparently not in the right click to get acknowledge as a customer. read more
