While my son was home for his summer break, he wanted to go back to Di Lisio's. They were on vacation too but luckily, they reopened right before he had to go back to college. As always, the portions were generous and everything tasted great! We ordered the Polpa di Granchio for the first time and we absolutely loved it! With so many Italian restaurants around downtown Winston-Salem, Di Lisio's Italian is definitely one of my favorites. Every time I've been there, the service has been welcoming, friendly, polite, and professional. You can tell they really care about making sure you have a good experience. I especially love the outdoor seating. It has a really nice, calm, and relaxing atmosphere that makes it easy to sit back, enjoy your food, and take your time. As far as the food, the veal chop, chicken saltimbocca, and mussels are some of my favorites and have always been delicious. Overall, Di Lisio's is a great spot when you want good Italian food, a nice atmosphere, and great service. Definitely a cool place for a Sunday dinner date or a relaxed evening out! read more

Omg this place was amazing. Food was to die for. And that's what you want at an Italian restaurant. I did not actually go into this place as we ate outside in the courtyard. It was lovely but I'm sure the ambiance was quite different inside than outside. However our sever was very nice. We never felt rushed or pressured to hurry along. My friend and I were there to eat and catch up and enjoy some good food. And we did. It was all excellent, the appetizers (we got two), the arancini and the burrata cheese caprese... chefs kiss. I love the cozy local atmosphere and this place is still packing them in everyday. Luckily we snagged a bar seat so we didn't have to wait for a table. It's all about the sauces! All of them. Really enjoyed the vodka sauce, pesto, and arrabiata sauces. I really appreciated that our waitress customized our dishes with us being vegetarian. I went to Di Lisio's and had a pleasurable experience. When I went at the time I had their fried ravioli to start. They really are a delight. Crispy and tasty, really a great appetizer they have to offer. My main course was recommend by my waitress the Chicken Cacciatore. Now I will say I wasnt blown away by it, but the chicken and mushrooms did taste nicely. It is a small place and the inside can get packed very quickly. I've heard a lot about this restaurant, so we finally decided to visit Di Lisio's for an anniversary dinner. We went at about 7:00 pm on a Tuesday evening and had to wait around 30 minutes for a table for two. The restaurant is very small and a bit cramped, so it seems like the normal is to expect a wait. The main dining area is very loud if the restaurant is full, so if you prefer a quieter setting, I'd opt for outside. Our server was very friendly and attentive, patiently answering questions and returning to check on us. We were served bread with oil, and while the bread was average, the oil was excellent! We also ordered a side house salad and a side cesar salad, both of which were decent. We ordered the Trio special (eggplant parmesan, fettuccine alfredo, and lasagna) and the Risotto Mare e Monti. Neither of these dishes were standouts for us -- they weren't bad by any means, they just weren't incredible. Fettuccine alfredo was my favorite overall. The service boosted our opinions for sure. While we didn't love love the food, we'd be down to go back and try different things next time. read more

We were impressed by everything. They don't take reservations and the bar was packed so we waited outside. A server came out and offered to bring us drinks while we waited. The drinks were good and much more reasonably priced than most cocktail bars. Every server we observed was excellent. It's obvious that they hire and train them well. The food was excellent! My wife absolutely loved the truffle risotto that I substituted for the gnocchi that normally comes with my dish. Five Stars all the way! I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana. I got two nice, tender pieces of chicken. The dish was perfectly cooked and tasted excellent. My wife got the Eggplant Rollatini. We did get a doggie bag. The eggplant had a base of spinach, which my wife said was quite different. She couldn't decide if the spinach added to the dish or not. Wanted Italian and visited based on the reviews and they lived up to the ratings. Parking is a little tight with the parking lot being smaller but there is street parking as an option. Atmosphere and the location. The atmosphere is pleasant and has a nice family style restaurant feel to it. Tables are small so things get a bit crowded quickly and the seating area is on the smaller side so while we didn't have a wait I could easily see long waits for a table. I wouldn't attempt to do a bigger party of more than 4 without forward planning. Service was good, servers were pleasant and mostly on top if things. Food, this is where Di Lisios really shined. The food portions are as they should be with classic Italian food, large. The quality of the food was really good and the selection of dishes had a good variety and were well prepared. Highly recommend the chicken parm, meatballs, and fried mozzarella. The pasta was good but hard to tell if they make their own daily or not based on the spaghetti I had. Will definitely visit again as its the best I've had since Tre Nonne closed a couple years ago. read more

I'm so glad I finally made it here! It has been on my list for quite some time now. I met up with a friend last week for a holiday catch up. We arrived at 7pm on Wednesday and were able to sit at the bar immediately. This is a very small, honestly overcrowded place, but helps to make it feel cozy and inviting. Parking is tight, but we both lucked out with nearby street parking within a block of the restaurant. The bartender was nice and gave us time to peruse the menu. For drinks, my friend got a riesling and I tried the festive cranberry martini. We split the toasted ravioli appetizer and each got a pasta dish for our entree. The ravioli was tasty and came with a delicious red sauce. Also, their bread and oil (with pesto) was really good too, and I'm not really a huge fan of bread to begin with! I had the chicken marsala and my friend got the pacheri montese. We both really enjoyed our entrees, great portions, I had enough leftovers for both lunch and dinner the next day! Best Italian food in the Triad, hands down! I can't believe I'm just now discovering this gem in Winston! Their menu seems like a pretty standard upscale Italian restaurant. I really like their appetizer selections. My first visit here was with a group of Yelpies, so you KNOW we ordered everything to pass around and try out. My favs were the caprese, fried ravioli, bruschetta, and the burrata. You can't go wrong with any of those. For my entrée, I lean more toward the traditional dishes, so I'm a sucker for the chicken parm and lasagna. I got the parm and my partner got the lasagna. Enormous portions! The marina was sooo flavorful and fresh. Heavy on the garlic and basil, just how I like it. I wouldn't be able to choose which dish I liked more, they were both amazing. Pro tip, order a side of meatballs to go (crazy cheap at $7 for 4 huge meatballs) to take home and make subs with the next day. *chef's kiss* Just as a heads-up, it is a small space, very small bar, very intimate. So it's great with a small group 2-4 people, but difficult to navigate with groups. To add to that, they don't take reservations. So plan on either arriving early to beat out the normal rush hour crowds, or just be ready to wait a while. The good news is that there is a Mexican restaurant right across the parking lot that is a good place to drink a beer and eat chips and salsa while you wait ;-) read more

One of my favorite Italian options in the Triad. They make their bread daily, import their pasta from Italy, and make most things from scratch. The bruschetta is amazing. I've never had a bad meal. It's small. There is usually a wait and tables are squeezed in tight. I've never seen parties larger than 6. It is a little pricer than most Italian places - but a great date night spot. My only complaint is the same as a year ago - the daily specials are upcharged significantly despite usually being things already on the menu at a lower price point. Sometimes they won't let you order the regular menu item if it's on special. You're paying sometimes almost double for the chef to prepare it himself. Went for Valentine's Day. Super crowded inside (as expected), so I was a little physically uncomfortable for a while because of how close the person behind me was sitting. We were initially going to sit outside, but quickly realized the outdoor heaters were losing in their battle against the February weather-- far too cold. Service was slow (also expected given the date, though I noticed some other tables with much more attentive servers than we had). I had to wait for a drink refill for longer than I would have liked on a few occasions. Entrees were alright but not necessarily what we would choose again. The antipasto we started with (and the free bread) was delicious. So was the espresso martini and the tiramisu we had for dessert. I decided it was time to update my review. My first review was when they very first opened ten years ago. So, also happy 10th birthday to Di Lisio's. I have not lived in Winston-Salem for seven years and my husband and I still talk about how much we miss Di Lisio's. If that is not enough of a recommendation for you to go and try them out, then I don't know what is. My husband never deviated from his beloved chicken parm here. My two favorites are definitely their spaghetti with meatballs and their eggplant parm. Just classic and insanely delicious. I think they are no longer open for lunch, but when they were man was that lunch portion of their meatball and spaghetti dish just the highlight of an entire day. If my husband and I are anywhere near Winston we always make a detour and grab Di Lisio's to go, it's just so worth it. I am floored, and more than a little disappointed in myself for waiting this long to come to Di Lisio's for an Italian meal. My goodness, if I had known just how good the sauce is here, how substantial the portions are, and that it was absolutely worth a half hour drive every single time... I would have gone so much sooner. The truth is, my favorite Italian spot closer to home has fallen off lately, and while I hate that... it has sent me on a quest to find the new go-to spot. Well, it didn't take me long. This is the place. My wonderful foodie friends took me here for my birthday celebration, and being the foodie types we are, of course we ordered a huge variety of stuff. The appetizer spread could barely be sustained by our table space as we loaded it down with calamari, mussels, the Antipasto Misto, fried ravioli, burrata, and bruschetta. While everything was delicious, I felt the Antipasto Misto, the burrata, and especially the bruschetta stole the show. The olive oil they use is wonderful. I need to find out the brand for my own dipping! Now, while my tastes run the entire Italian gamut... I have a rule for my first trip to any place. SHOW ME YOUR LASAGNA AND MEATBALLS (if they offer them as a side). Thankfully, you can indeed get a side of meatballs. More on that later. First of all, I am ready to annoint this some of the finest, if not THE finest red sauce in all the land. Taste... rich in tomato and garlic flavor, perfect thickness, just a touch of sweetness. Just set me up with fresh bread and this sauce, and I am so in. Now, on to the meat lasagna. The portion is a big big square, enough for leftovers, as any lasagna should be. It's baked and covered in more of that wonderful sauce. There is a spot on meat to cheese to sauce to pasta ratio. It was even better the next day. I adored it. The side of meatballs. Holy cow! You can tell a lot about the place by how their meatballs are constructed. This side was 4 BIG meatballs, about the size of a racquetball each. You love to see it. A beautiful blend of beef, pork, bread crumbs, spices, and a few nuggets of cheese throughout. I had a pair leftover because I was just so full, I cut those up into a meatball hoagie with more mozzarella for lunch the next day... Wow. If I lived close, I would be ordering sides of meatballs like it was my job, and just buying fresh bread for sandwiches. Killer. I will get some to go every time I go. You can count on that. Best of all, complimentary tiramisu for my birthday! I was given the choice of any dessert, but I'm generally always going that route. Somehow I fit it in, and it to, was wonderful.
