Encore My kid has…read morebeen going to Encore for private violin lessons for 2 years. My kid has learned so much about music. Encore offers music lessons for piano, violin, viola, cello, flute, saxophone, clarinet, guitar, bass guitar, drums, ukulele, and vocals. They also offer dance and acting classes. I really love the ease of their scheduling. I also like the incentives that they offer to music students such as prizes that they earn through points. My kid even earned a personalized trophy after one year of lessons. Encore also offers two recitals per year. Parents can sign up their child to perform. It's such a joy seeing all the students share their musical talents. The Encore staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

For instance, the instruments were tuned prior to class and beat maker is pretty much on throughout the class. Toward end of the class, the parent can listen to what was learned from the lesson. The lessons are taught at her home but she has two beautifully appointed studios separated from the residence providing a distraction free one on one instruction. She has also partnered with a guitar instructor offering lessons. The area just outside of the studio is a beautiful deck with pretty good views of highland park with comfy chairs (and within earshot of the lessons) which makes it fun to hear the progress of my kiddos. At the end of each "semester" she holds a recital with the students which I find pretty darn cute but also very entertaining. You will not find a more enthusiastic and positive instructor that truly cares for her students and their progress in music.

My 6 year old son has been learning guitar at SPM with Bob since he was 5. We've had a great…read moreexperience. Bob is super duper patient with my son, and I'm so grateful for that. Guitar is taught using the Suzuki ("mother tongue") method, which means that they first learn to play by ear - as when one learns a first/mother tongue language. We learn to speak by hearing our parents speak, then eventually we learn to write. They don't learn to read notes right away as in traditional music class. Suzuki teachers do have to go through special training in order to get certified, which is why they're hard to find. The new location in South Pasadena is beautiful and a relaxing environment for kids to learn music. I highly recommend SPM! 5 stars.
