My daughter has learning differences , not on the spectrum. We had complained about a boy who my daughter said was obsessed with her. We requested for her to not be in the same classroom as this boy, request denied. Then one day her mood shifted and she cried every morning not wanting to go to school. She couldn't tell us what happened. It was too traumatic for her to voice it. She was in 4th grade. Her behavior was very anxious and not able to stay in the classroom. They tried to accommodate her by spending time in the principles office. She was still not able to stop panicking. We had to take her out. 5 years of therapy later it was revealed she was sexually assaulted in the bathroom by the boy. She is still traumatized by it and probably always will be. We have been through hell. Suicide attempts , inability to focus, an eating disorder etc etc etc. she is now in 10th grade having to be held back a year because of lost class time due to the trauma. And disgustingly this was not an isolated instance. The one family we became close to who also left discover the same boy sexually assaulted their son. I'm not saying the school itself is awful in sure there are amazing experiences and caring teachers. And for many we met there this is the only option so you naturally choose to accept or maybe turn a blind eye to red flags. I don't know if the head of school has changed but she was awful. Good luck!

I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible support and dedication that Mark Woodsmall has…read moreshown to my family. From the very beginning, Mark has been more than just an advocate -- he has been a true ally and guiding light through one of the most challenging journeys we've faced. Mark's deep understanding of special education law and the complexities of the school district system has been nothing short of life-changing for our family. He has stood firmly by our side, ensuring that our son's needs were not overlooked or minimized. When the district tried to cut essential services, Mark skillfully and compassionately stepped in, using his expertise to protect our child's rights. What truly sets Mark apart is his ability to see through the misleading language and tactics often used by districts to deny or delay services. He doesn't just respond -- he educates and empowers families like ours to understand the process and stand strong. Mark Woodsmall is, quite simply, a Godsend. His integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to children with special needs make him a rare and remarkable advocate. Because of his efforts, our son continues to receive the support he needs to thrive -- and for that, we will be forever grateful.

Mark met us where we were at-which was pretty defeated at the time- not just with legal expertise, but with personal insight and emotional sensitivity. He and his team walked us through every step of the process, with thoroughness, detail, communication, patience, warmth, and kindness. He once said, "I know you like to know how the soup is made...", and took the time to explain to me the intricate and oftentimes overwhelming legal jargon, history and process'. A little about us-our daughter was diagnosed with Autism, OCD, ADHD, Tic Disorder, Excoriation, MDD and GAD when she 14. She was and is also considered a "2-E" or "twice exceptional" student, meaning simultaneously intellectually gifted and neurologically, mentally and emotionally challenged. Despite her challenges in almost every other aspect of her life, she thrived academically, musically and artistically, receiving a 4.4 GPA almost every year in high school. Because of her grades and like many girls with neurodivergence, her ability to mask, public schools overlooked how much she was suffering on a day to day basis. She struggled with large student populations, constant noise with no where to hide, the ruminating thoughts that come with OCD about every single stimulus she was exposed to, executive functioning, etc. Autism made it hard to navigate friendships among a giant pool of people that left her neurological system in overdrive daily. She needed an alternative setting to learn, but the public school system could not offer an alternative learning space that also offered the academic rigor that she needed and deserved. Mark and his team did not over promise, were real with us and fought for us with integrity, calmness, and dedication. They always remembered that the outcome we wanted was for our daughter, and he would often ask how she was doing. Our daughter was able to attend a school with a smaller class size, AP classes, art and music offerings, a larger support team, and has been thriving since-not just academically, but she has made friends, plays high school beach volleyball, DRIVES!, and comes home most days pretty calm. This outcome would not have been possible without Mark Woodsmall and his team. We are immensely grateful and can not thank him and his team enough!

I've used them for about 2 years, on and off, and unfortunately, it's hard to find good special needs therapy organizations in Los Angeles. I have Anthem Blue Cross so I've used a couple other organizations but ALP tends to have better staff compared to others, but unfortunately, they tend not to stay for whatever reason, and we're stuck with another trainer, coach every 6-8 months. Although Dr. Gina Chang is listed as the president of ALP, she doesn't have any interaction with patients. Most interactions are with staff via phone or "trainers". The current one we have, Jennifer, has been great and I hope she stays with the company but she has been our 6th one in over 2 year period.

All the good Therapist end up quitting the company due to how the schedule their staff. And the ones they hire to replace them have no experience and probably very minimal training. When I addressed my concerns about my son's current therapist with the BCBA, I was just brushed off and Informed that they would not reassign my son to a different therapist who has more experience. They seem to hire just anyone. Also when we initially started with the company, they were forcing on us to do 40 hours a week when he initially was only approved for 25 hours. They seemed like they only want to bill my insurance and just send any random person to be with my son. We had also informed our developmental pediatrician about this and he agreed that they are only looking to bill the insurance. We have had great therapist during our time with ALP But all have either left the company or were removed from my son's case due to their own scheduling conflicts. At the end of they day, they do not care about your child's development but their own bottom line. To any parent reading this, please do your research and avoid ALP. Just because they respond to your providers inquiry fast doesn't mean they are good. I only wish there were more regulations and ways to report companies like ALP.
