Mathnasium South Pasadena has been helping our daughter achieve grade-level mastery in Math for the past four years. We are very pleased with everyone in this team of Math coaches. Mathnasium in South Pasadena has been a tremendous help to our family for the past two years. When our older was struggling in math last year, the excellent tutors helped her master the skills she needed to succeed, not just for that class, but for the rest of her life. She is getting an A in math this year, but without Mathnasium's help. This, to me, is a testament to the fact that the tutors help students not just with their homework, but they teach students how to approach challenges and learn material on their own. My child needs a lot of support with math. I chose Mathnasium over a private tutor because the staff at Mathnasium have a thorough understanding of Common Core principles and grade-level-benchmarks. They assess your student and make a plan to target any skills that need more attention and practice. I need to say that I spend a lot of my time in South Pasadena, while I live in Santa Monica. I have a daughter that is in 4th grade.. In Santa Monica, BUT the Mathnasium here is SO GOOD that she does her tutoring here, not in SM. I know.. Crazy! I say this every time I am driving in the most vicious traffic several times a week to get here. We started at the SM Mathnasium and it was great when Kai was the director, but she left. She was amazing all on her own, but SM seems to be a little scattered in organization or crowded or mismatched.. I'm not actually certain the exact deficit I feel at that one to make me not want to drop $350 a month! RIGHT?? Yes.. SO.. I drive my daughter to this one because I'm happy to pay these guys. She has improved in her math confidence, has fun doing math, likes to go here despite the awful commute and doesn't say she hates math anymore. This is worth every cent and mile spent. No one can improve in anything if their attitude towards something doesn't change and that's what happened here in South Pasadena that didn't happen in Santa Monica. Andrew is wonderful and accommodating. Nathan is also wonderful and a genius as are every single tutor at this location. We are going to stick it out for the 4th grade tutoring here because I really think that South Pasadena has it going on at this place. We've tried several other math tutoring places (beyond Mathnasium's) and this one IS the BEST one. It's like a little math family or something and the kids respond to it. It's great, spend the money. My concerns of my son's declining math grade have been growing in the past 6 months or so. We have been trying different types of classes from different learning center surrounding. I have tried KUMON in the past and felt that their program was not a fit for my son in this situation. He felt so defeated as why I am so bad in math. It broke my heart as I heard it from him. I had to take the matters into my own hands and find another suitable supplemental program. Back in August, I have stumbled upon Mathnasium driving on Fair Oaks in South Pasadena. I signed my son for Mathnasium in September. I was skeptical about the program in the beginning, but it has beat all of my expectations. First of all, the improvements in my son's math grades over the last 3-4 months are drastic (grades increased from D to B-). Second, my son loves to go there and enjoys every minute of his study time. The tutors are a great team in building his confidence also appreciate for any updates they given to me. Math is no longer a chore. Those instructors at Mathnasium are real professionals and excellent with/around children. The stuff is genuinely interested in growing math knowledge in kids and delivering exceptional services while doing so. Their supplemental learning helping kids all the way through high school which allows for further bonding amongst kids themselves and teachers. Every single interaction with them to me, as a parent, has been informative, painless, and very genuine. They are truly interested in helping kids to fall in love with math subject. More impressive than their re sults is the fact that they care about their students as individuals. Robie makes himself readily available for extra study sessions prior to finals. We are sending our pre-K here to give him enrichment in math and WOW, this is as good as it gets! The owner (Mark), the co-owner and ALL the staff are TOP NOTCH in quality, patience, kindness and totally know their stuff. I love that their way of getting kids to understand math is really about truly understanding math, not just rote memorization. You are given work to do, but there are many qualified tutors always buzzing around to make sure your child is 1) doing the work by himself and 2) can get help/explanations whenever needed and 3) can actually explain why they got the answers they got. My son is an LAUSD middle school student, where for whatever reason it is a sink or swim situation for the students of this system. My son was struggling in math ( completely Failing). I did everything in my power to get him help within the LAUSD system. I spoke with teachers, counselors, principals, etc.. No one could offer any help but, they were quick to point their fingers at my son as being the problem. He is a good kid and kind of shy ( Gifted Too). I finally decided to enroll him with Mathnasium here in South Pasadena. Within one month he went from Failing in math, getting 26% on test, to becoming an A+ student in math getting 100%. This place is AMAZING !!!!. He has been going for 8 months now and is still doing exceptionally well. His self confidence has increased as well and is doing better in his other subjects. UPDATE: So, it's been 2 years since my original review. During that time my rating went from 1 Star to 5 Stars. Mark, Liz, Titus, Robbie and the rest of the staff at Mathnasium South Pasadena have been wonderful. Mark was quick to address my original concerns and has gone out of his way to demonstrate that my first experience was not the norm. I'm not sure exactly how they do it, but my 6th grade son LOVES going to Mathnasium. We actually took a break last summer, but once the school year started, my son nagged me to sign him back up. He didn't stop asking until I finally got him back to Mathnasium. We're now at the end of the school year and my kid still asks every day if he can go to Mathnasium after school. Whatever they're doing to keep him enthusiastic about learning math, I say "keep it up!". read more

I have a 4th grade son and he was struggling in 3rd grade with multiplication, which made 4th grade division hard. I thought I could just help him memorizing math facts, but we were not getting anywhere. My son was hesitant to go to Mathnasium, but once he got there, he not only improved within the first few sessions, he kept asking to go back. Thanks to the instructors and the director, my son was excited about math and thought it was fun! They don't just teach memorization of facts, they really take the time to explain the basic concepts to lay the foundation for the next level. I also like how the work assigned is based on an assessment, tailoring it to what my son needed to work on. This is a great place! I have been attending Mathnasium for over 2 years now and I honestly think it is a great help. You get to bond with the instructors and you can learn a lot by just attending here. I also like that Mathnasium is a little more free about what you can do. Do you want to work through a workbook that you want to do and really push yourself? That's fine and the instructors will guide you through it if you have questions. Do you want to work through some specially designed pages that they give you? That's fine too! They won't really force you to do anything, as long as it's math and you are showing effort. Before coming to Mathnasium, I think the biggest problem I had with my Mathematics was that it was so hard and annoying to find out how to solve a problem. Without Mathnasium solve a math problem you don't know, you have to ask 5 friends and the internet for what could take over an hour per question. This made it really difficult to learn math in when I was younger. But, Mathnasium allows help to be readily available through talented instructors who are usually around college age. This is great because they are also students like us but have everything fresh in their heads. Not to mention the amount of interesting problems that they get on a daily basis allowing them to find new ways and be creative problem solvers. The instructors are people who really love math and it's fun to see an instructor get super excited over a problem and keep you on your feet. I do not know how else I can emphasize how amazing the place is. I would say to keep it up! I don't want this to just be the end though, I want Mathnasium to be the best that it could be and make keep striving for efforts to make the experience even better. The instructors at Mathnasium are very helpful and patient. My daughter has been going there since the common core began in her 6 grade year. She's been attending for 2.5 years now. Before she receives help with her homework she is given a few problems that are relative to it. In turn, she could do her homework with a better understanding. Worth every penny. I took my 9th grade daughter to Mathnasium becaue she had a horrible Geometry teacher and she was doing terribly. After one week, her test scores went from "D" to "A". After the first day of mathnasium tutoring, my daughter told me that she would personally pay for the tutoring because it helped her that much. The director, Larry, the lead instructor, Neil, and the entire staff are are amazing. They are professional and 100% effective. Before going to mathnasium we had tried other tutors. On an hourly basis, the "other" tutors appeared to be a bit less expensive. However, my daughter spent more time with those "other" tutors and got much less out of it. I recommend Mathnasium without hesitation and would select them over any other program. I should note that it is unbelievable how much confidence my daughter gained after two months with the program. When my daughter started at Mathnasium, she doubted her ability to pass Geometry, let alone excel at it. She is now confident that she is good at math and that she will do well in Algebra. She told me that her instructors at Mathnasium told her she was smart and that she could do well in math whether or not she was being tutored. It was a total transformation. When I signed her up for the course I wondered whether I could afford it. Now I understand that I can't afford not to have her there. Beyond the obvious benefit my daughter received in obtaining the necessary instruction for her to improve her Geometry grade, I am confident that the tutoring will go a long way to help her excel on the SAT. She is in total command of the subject of Geometry. (Another factor you may want to consider when you are deciding whether it is worth signing up your student. It is better that you sign them up early so that they can do well from the beginning, allowing them have command of the subject throughout the semester, obtain a high grade and then do well in the subject area on the SAT. I really wish I had done it that way rather than waiting until my daughter was having trouble. The result was that she received a lower grade than she was capable of achieving, she spent endless hours of unfocusted study, frustrated and doubting herself. Whatever your student's math needs, I truly believe South Pasadena Mathnasium can help. In short, I can give no higher recommendation than that which I give to South Pasadena Mathnasium. read more

We simply love Mathnasium of South Pasadena! We enrolled our daughter not because she was getting bad grades in math but because she needed a place that would challenge her. Mathnasium is that place! Mark, Titus, Robbie, Sean, and the rest of the staff here are excellent! They assess each child individually and make sure to give challenging yet appropriate worksheets. They make sure that our daughter masters and fully understands each level of math before letting her move on to the next level. The Mathnasium staff teach every child "number sense" rather than just rote memorization. They put so much care into everything that they do, and they always answer my daughter's questions with such precision.
