Beware! Purchased a very large Tecoma bush from Parkview on Jackson. It took exactly 2 months for it to wither to bare sticks. At 3 weeks I contacted staff and there response was indifferent at best. At 4 weeks I went into store with photos of dying bush, their response was to buy rose food fertilizer (which I did). At 2 months the bush is a dying eyesore. As someone who runs several small businesses, I'm going to try to be constructive here. The whole point of going to a special nursery and paying more for the plants that are available elsewhere is you are paying for the advice and knowledge of the staff. I've now interacted with 3 employees on two separate occasions who did not even have basic knowledge about the plant I was inquiring about. I understand it takes a long time to train staff and there is a lot of learn, but its a serious disappointment when you are asking questions about a living thing that's 30-50+ dollars and they can't tell you about it's habits beyond canned answers that apply to all plants. When questioned on the validity of their answers, one stuck with his wrong answer ( in this case told me a banana tree would take 5 years to fruit (as I note to buyers considering one, it survived frost and heat just fine, but the winds killed it (not the nursery's fault, just saying)) On another occasion one admitted he didn't know and went to ask someone else (the right thing to do, this was fine) and another one had an attitude from the get go and told me I was wrong and that what I was talking about didn't exist (he literally said "there is no such thing as xyz") Also, I don't know about their cell phone policy, but the kid that wouldn't believe me could have whipped out a phone with internet access and in two seconds seen the tree I was referencing did exist instead of being a snotty know it all (teenager or young adult, dark hair) or just asked someone else, anything really would have been better. The female staff member is always great. The older gentleman is friendly as well. The quality of plants is high. I think most of the newer staff have only basic knowledge so as a customer I would advise to insist on talking to the seasoned staff for advanced gardening advice. Thanks :) read more

Very bad experience. The guy who answered the phone has no idea of good customer service. I asked about an organic fertilizer which it turns out they don't carry. Then I asked him if he knew why it is so hard to find this product. He laughed like the question was stupid. Then I asked if he knew where I can find it. He said he did, but then he wouldn't say where. When I confronted him about his attitude and unhelpfulness he became argumentative and then hung up on me! I cannot stress how amazing this place is, if I could give it ten stars, I would. Tim is the most knowledgeable man in the universe for plants, any question you have, he can answer! He's also very fair with the plants, we've had several plant issues where something didn't take well and he let us exchange it. He will always stop what he's doing and offer you help. I've always gotten all of my trees and plants from here. I feel like I'm at Parkview a few times a week just spending all my money. I need more plants.... As a budding home gardener (pun intended) I cant believe I went so long without coming here. My first go at vegetable gardening in my little condo last year was mildly successful. I didn't get much more than one squash and 2 bowlfuls of green beans but I knew then I was hooked. When I moved into my home in December, which has a large backyard, 3 mature fruit trees and tons of roses I knew I could accomplish so much more. At first, I shopped at Home Depot for all my needs. Although nothing really went wrong there, I felt it lacked the intimacy and kinship I longed for from a nursery. it was then that a few different sources, who are all gardening pros, suggested Parkview. Since I went the first time about a month ago, I have been back about 5 times. What I love about Parkview is the selection. I went in wanting a Lavender bush, they have 5 different kinds! I love the selection of rare/heirloom tomatoes, organic herbs and flowers I have never even seen before! When I was having a problem with earwigs taking over my flowers, they had the perfect solution and it worked! When my heirloom tomato plant was going limp and colorless, they had the perfect solution and it worked! I now have 3 tiny tomatoes on my plant. I cant wait to go back this week to get a selection of full shade plants for my front yard. Seriously, skip Home Depot and give Parkview a try, I know you wont be disappointed! read more

We drove here just recently to buy a small pygmy date palm which are difficult to find (under 10 gallons) in the Coachella Valley. The 60 mile drive to the Canyon Crest location was worth it. My husband has shopped there in the past and I had never been there before even though I used to live 2 miles away. I purchased about $250 worth of stuff; pots, ceramic saucer, a small palm as well as a very low chill hours small peach tree. They have a huge, excellent selection of beautiful pots and and a half off section of more all in perfect condition. Definitely a great place to buy planters/pots; every color under the rainbow. Parkview Nursery is a wonderful little place just off Magnolia Avenue in Riverside. The wife and I discovered it a few years back and make it a point to return whenever we're in the area. Wifey's main hobby is gardening. They feature a wonderful variety of: plants (both full sun and shade), shrubs, trees, flowers, planting supplies, etc. All of their plants and flowers are plainly labeled as to species as well as care instructions. Inside the main building are a good selection of garden art, plant food and feeding supplies, tools, wind chimes, etc. My only small complaint is that their selection of fountains and garden furniture is a bit lacking. Regardless - they also have a good selection of pots. Many of their larger plants like jasmine come in 1 or 5 gallon pot sizes. You may pay a little more here than at Lowe's or Home Depot.. but the personal touch they offer makes it worth it! The staff here is very friendly and helpful - and if they don't have something you are looking for, they are happy to try to order it! Newell Nursery in Yucaipa is the 5 Star Yelp standard for nurseries, in my opinion. This place comes darn close. In fact it was voted "Best Nursery" by readers of the Public Enterprise Newspaper for 2007-2008 - and its easy to see why. Go there for yourself to see why. Mom took me here when the place was new. Ack I am getting old! I love the small town homey charm of this place. Relaxing and feels like a little get-away in the city. A lil slice of downtown/Mission Inn Riverside on the other end of town. The staff was super nice, very knowledgeable (pssst when a customer knows a moderate-to-a-lot about plants themselves, a good selling tip is to acknowledge their own expertise. Plus, the moderate pressure to "buy this other plant because it would look good with the plant you picked out" kind of turned me off, but others may appreciate this). A small complaint, really. No big thing. Like someone else said, a tad on the high side, but private nurseries usually are, after all, they do have a bigger selection. But at $25 for a lot of their plants, I found the exact same for $3-$10 at the home improvement nurseries. Hate giving my $$$ to big corporations, but... The economy blows too so we all have to watch what we spend. STILL, do stop there, wander slowly, it IS a wonderful place to stop and shop. I did buy some wonderful plants there and will be back again for the occasional garden indulgence. (P.S. If the Nursery created a few cozy bench spots where customers could sit down, listen to a small water fountain in shade and maybe even a drink/snack machine, it would be wonderful. See Precious Times Antiques for this same thing they created. And makes me want to go back to Precious Times again and again!) read more

I love Parkview nursery!!! Their staff is always willing to help out and answer all my gardening questions. I even brought in a sample of my dying grass to find out by the nice gentleman (who's mannerisms reminded me of Dr. Oz - LOL!) he told me in the kindest way - that isn't grass but a weed that gets into the grass. He helped me figure out how to reseed my grass - now I'm getting some baby grass in the once weedy patches. They always carry such great veggie starters. Their plants are always healthy. They have the prettiest lettuce and such great varieties - that make my lettuce patch look so cute and tasty. It makes me feel good that I can also support a small business and their prices are reasonable - pretty competitive with the big box stores. I like that they carry a better variety of flowers, herbs and veggies. They also have a nice assortment of plumerias. One of the guys there is a plumeria guru!! :) read more

The problem is whoever selects their bedding plants really has a good eye for ordering unusual and hard to find plant species and varieties. So this store was right up my alley. We called Parkview Nursery about getting some Red Creeping Thyme, ground cover plants we'd heard were really good. They had never carried this particular plant but they told us they would check with their suppliers. I got a call the next day saying they thought they could get the plants; they took our order, then said they would call us again the next day after they had confirmed that their supplier had them. We were able to get the plants from them the next day. The staff at Parkview gave us excellent customer service, going above and beyond, not just saying "we don't carry those" but instead making the extra effort to get them for us. read more

Some of the larger trees I cannot afford and would recommend maybe a smaller nursery in Ontario but I normally go here for all of my other flowers.
