I recently visited Louie's Nursery to purchase a couple of palo verde trees. I want to start by saying the staff member who helped me locate the 5-gallon palo verde trees was excellent--very patient, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all of my questions. Unfortunately, the experience at checkout completely changed my impression. The cashier was not friendly and seemed impatient, which made the process uncomfortable and disappointing. The nursery does offer fair pricing and a wide selection of plants, which I appreciated. However, customer service--especially at checkout--is just as important. Slightly expensive but worth the price and wait specifically because of the awesome selection and quality of plants/shrubs and trees. Not to mention the staff. We drove 2 hours to get there and it was worth. Don't let landscape companies charge you for the same you can pickup your self or just pay the delivery charge. read more

The nicest and cleanest looking nursery I've seen so far in the OC or near OC areas. Neatly drained layout with friendly staff. I drive 1.5 hours in bad traffic from OC to here to buy a maha chinook mango and a nam dook mai mango trees that aren't available in many places. The regular price was $109 for a 3 gallon (I think) plant but since they had their fall sale , each of them was 30% off bringing my total to be $176 dollars for both trees. Very expensive (a lot higher than other nursery. Disappointed with the place. The papaya plant I bought was a bit yellow. The guy/owner told me, it is healthy, no problem. Since I brought home, the plant has yellow leaves constantly. They sold unhealthy plants. The price is chocking neck. Expensive but bad quality. Will not be back in the future! read more

I really love Plants! I love growing things. I love being able to eat when I grow. I love the free trees that the City Of Riverside offers once a year even though I don't live in the City Of Riverside lol I love that Luis participates in that program and they actually offer an even better deal maybe it's because their prices are so high But it's $40 for a tree and I think they give you a $60 tree. But this nursery says that they honor you by letting you exchange things when they die and that didn't happen for me Then one time I got excited because I found a pot that had two different plants in it and sure enough she wouldn't sell it to me I come in as an assistant for my boss who spends easily thousands of dollars here each year. They don't do anything special for her either. But we really made me upset was when they sent me a coupon for my birthday, which is the last day of the month and they sent it the day before my birthday and then when I went to ask about it two weeks later, they said it's only good for the month of your birthday . Lol that figures cause they couldn't part with a penny if it was on the ground and I found it the owner would wrestle me for it. Ok I am not a fan of poo reviews but this was very upsetting and frustrating. I had made contact with the nursery initially back in April after my dad passed regarding purchasing a tree to donate to Riverside National cemetery in my dad's honor. Had spoke to Michelle initially and was explained process and such(informative and nice). Fast forward to months later (the cemetery area was ready for planting now) I go in to pick out the tree, pay and Joey helped me. (She was helpful and understood my wishes for the situation) Purchased it and was to make contact regarding planting day/time so my siblings and I could be there. After resolving placement area with cemetery I sent text and emails confirming day/time for planting. I also called but didn't speak with Joey she was off that day. The lead at the cemetery confirmed as well. I have all correspondence too. We showed up and the tree was already planted... we took time off from work and both drove a distance... Not a bit of communication to inform us..... Super crappy since I said it was important for us to be there.... Yes the tree was cared for while they held it for planting and it does look pretty but just disappointed in lack of response/communication. read more

By far the nicest nursery in the area. I came to buy an avocado tree and did. They have a far better selection than ( Any other seller in a at least 50 miles radius I have visited ) These trees cost more than most other nurseries around and consequently are a few times larger than the normal big box stores. So to buy a 5 gallon probably double the cost of a cheap HD tree thats the size of most 15 gallon trees that are 3 to 4 times the cost. read more

I recently bought a Kona Sharwill avocado tree from Louie's nursery. Louies nursery seems to be highly respected by some of the members of an avocado growers group I belong to. Their prices are reasonable and the plants are top notch health wise. Louies carries many varieties of avocados in addition to a full spectrum of other plants and trees. Johan helped me select my tree, as the group of trees were hooked up to drip irrigation (somewhat like an IV) and I could not pull them out of their space. Johan selected a healthy and well balanced young tree, 5 gallons for $55. My tree held nicely in the pot for a month while I waited for the weather to stabilize. The tree seems to be doing great. Louie's Nursery has the worst customer service among nurseries in the Inland Empire. I am a retired healthcare professional and I live in Riverside. Each time I have visited this nursery I am amazed at how little they value their customers. Today I approached a young man who worked there. I asked him where they had their shade trees. He didn't greet me. He didn't smile. He barely stopped to respond to me, "On the left evergreen and on the right, deciduous" and then he immediately walked off without asking me if I had any other questions or needs he could assist me with. At Trader Joe's if you ask where an item is, they will always personally show you where it is and even ask you if there's anything else you might need help finding. In an age of diminishing manners, patience and civilities, rather than him being appreciative and grateful for working in the most attractive and calming environment, he, like his coworkers over the past several years have behaved as if I was applying for a handout, indifferent if not downright unpleasant. When I had difficulty finding what I was looking for (i.e. I believe he was altogether mistaken), I went to the cashier's window located at the front of the nursery. The young man with the ponytail and long curly hair I originally asked had walked over to me, and I politely asked him for his assistance. At which point he had walked several paces in front of me so that I had to quicken my pace to keep up with him. When he finally brought my tree to my car, he asked, "which one is yours?" Without saying goodbye, he placed it outside of my car and faster than I could even process his dismissal, he walked away without me being able to thank him for bringing it to my car. If this nursery wasn't so well stocked and if it wasn't so large and attractive, I would never consider returning for want of the slightest bit of their attention to their client's needs. Their patrons don't owe them anything. I'd dispense with the pleasantries to make my criticism severe, but then they would be missing the point. What follows is an addendum to my Yelp review: when, in the course of a controversy, one finds oneself unable to address the issues raised, namely, the absence of civility and general etiquette, one often resorts to issuing a red herring or a diversion from the discussion itself. Note, that I did not once complain that neither my driver's license nor an electronic copy of my April RPU utility invoice had sufficed to procure a credit for a free shade tree as advertised on a large banner upon the nursery's entrance. And yes, it is accurate that the young man had readjusted not replaced the tree stake for which I had expressed my gratitude. But neither the fact that my electronic invoice and other verification of my residence had been the issue, Mary. The issue was that in my numerous occasions of shopping at Louie's Nursery, I have indeed taken notice of an absence of general congeniality and an air of antipathy, disregard... One should take note that, at no point had Mary sought to assuage this customer's candid and sincere concern about her employee's indifference towards interpersonal communication. From the moment I saw him, he had looked at me and had spoken to me as though I didn't belong there. Furthermore, one should take note that in Mary's attempt to evade the points that I had made clear, in her confabulation, she sought to very subtly and surreptitiously imply that my concerns had something to do with not being able to redeem my RPU utility bill for the Crepe Myrtle that I indeed had purchased at its full price. Implying that, Mary, was a blatant untruth. A tree is a lovely thing to be admired. But if I were to play the game that Mary is attempting to engage in -- i.e., creating a distraction and a diversion from the point, I could easily downplay the beauty of the tree that I purchased; and accurately describe it as being essentially a 3/4 inch wide stem that was four feet tall with a few diagonal growths and some leaves. That gives the reader an entirely different perspective of its value. Moreover, that description is beside the point. What is relevant is that the young man was coarse and completely removed; moreover, in her issuing a distraction and red herring from that point, she sought to disregard that his demeanour was altogether inappropriate. People remember their shopping experiences, Mary. This review was an honest account of my experience yesterday at Louie's Nursery. Again, aside from the fact that Louie's Nursery is one of the nicest looking, ample and well supplied nurseries in the Inland Empire, no one wants to feel slighted in their pursuit of gardening nor for any other avocation. I question whether or not you can continue to avoid the fact that you sought to minimise my experience and the reader should take note that you evaded any discussion of the points which I have raised and reiterated. Lots of variety! Usually if I can't find a plant anywhere else, they will have it here (except natives). Their plants look healthy and well maintained. They are overpriced compared to other local nurseries, but for some it might be worth it. Now, heads up: every other nursery their size will take back plants that don't take, after a 3 month trial, but not Louie's. If you plan to buy larger plants, their policy might apply. If you are buying smaller plants and you suspect that they might not take (like raspberries in my case, or herbs, or any small size plant that the average buyer tends to buy), don't come here because you will be stuck with the dead plant, whether it's just a few days or three months. Save yourself a trip and go to Parkview in Riverside or even Home Depot or Lowe's; their policies are better read more

Today my wife purchased 8 items from there and one item was triple scanned (she was charged quantity of 3 of one kind of plant when only one was being purchased). The cashier seemed apologetic after this mistake was brought to her attention. After the adjustment/refund was made, my wife checked over the receipt and noticed another mistake as there was a double scanned item (she was charged quantity of 2 of one kind of plant when only one was being purchased), so another refund/adjustment had to be made. When this second mistake was brought to the cashier's attention, she seemed to be irritated and frustrated that a second refund had to be made to reconcile the situation. The owner seemed irritated as well!! These were entirely the cashier's mistakes. The owner did not apologize for these overcharges, providing the impression she does not care about her customers. BOTTOM LINE: If you need a plant or tree that is not in stock at Louie's Nursery. Do not waste your time; find it elsewhere. I stopped by Louie's, looking for a specific tree that was not in stock. I left my name and contact info. After a week, I followed up with an email, again providing my information and the requested item. Louie's responded and stated they would have the tree within two weeks and would contact me. After a month with no response, I made contact again. Louie's stated that the tree was being picked up from the grow yard the following day and would be available. Two days later I made the 1:20 drive (round trip) to the nursery; no tree and nothing had been transported from the grow yard. After seven weeks of frustration, it's apparent that Louie's cannot accommodate requests for items not in stock. read more

I bought Pretty in Pink Eden Climber last week. I noticed some orange spots on the tree. I as the owner and a staff what that was and if they would be gone by themself. The owner and their staff said it was just because of the weather and the owner also added 'if you dont want, you dont need to buy it'. It was true, it was my decision to decide to buy because I trusted them that the orange spots will go away by itself; however, when I am home, I looked over the internet and found out that it was rose rust, a type of fungus that would kill your roses if untreated so please be careful when buying plants there. read more
