Horrible quality and even worse customer service! I was extremely disappointed with my order from plantclearance.com (SoCal Nursery). I received an Azalea that arrived severely stressed and completely dehydrated. I reached out to customer service "George" expecting a replacement plant or a refund, but his response was "Just water it." For the price paid, I expected a healthy plant, not a resuscitation project. Telling a customer to water a plant that arrived in this condition is a complete brush-off. Save your money and buy from a nursery that actually stands behind the quality of their plants. I won't be shopping here again. read more

I ordered from them last year (via their Plantclearance.com website), and was sure to place a large order ($600+) to get shipment to Northern California. Communication wasn't the greatest, but once the plants arrived... they were in good condition, and very decent quality for the price. My wife wanted some more Santa Rita cactus this year, but we don't have enough space or need for a $600 order, so we opted to pay the extra NorCal shipping fee for our order... they contacted us and said they would not ship it unless we bought $600 worth. I told them never mind, then, and to just cancel and refund the order. George replied "Ok sure ill check to see what we can do for you. Thanks" ... this was over a month ago, but I never got a refund, and the order is still just listed as processing/pending, and the order was placed in NOVEMBER. I have opened a BBB dispute, but the BBB just keeps saying they can't get a response. Guess I have to dispute the charge on my card or take them to small claims court... read more

These people are kind of a joke. I placed an order from their website plantclearance.com on 09/01/2025. I hadn't heard anything by the 15th. I called and the fella answered the phone "hello". I asked if it was plantclearance and he said yes. I asked about my order and he said "we will have it to you by the end of the week". Received 3 trees today. All in excellent health w the 24" box Podocarpus each being a foot taller than noted on the order page. Note that larger trees are in tubs not boxes. In addition the delivery associate gladly hand trucked the trees into the backyard and placed where I requested. Was a great experience with excellent value. read more

Although I didn't place a large order, they were happy to deliver to San Fernando Valley, which isn't very close to their operation. Responses to questions were answered promptly. One has to be patient, realistic, and flexible to have living plants delivered at a distance from a nursery - you are not ordering from Amazon! The flats arrived ready to put in the ground. The company does not deliver according to the timelines on their website, greatly delaying my project, then the company simply forgot a plant and their customer service rep (owner?) Went on a Friday to pick out 5 cypress trees, process was easy and had my trees delivered a few days later, thanks again!

Back in May purchased 6 fruit trees on line and followed up with George the owner on the phone to finalize the order. Things progressed well and received the trees. Planted them and watered them everyday. After a few weeks wrote a mail to George explaining the Avocado tree not doing well. He insisted that we needed to keep watering! which we were doing manually everyday! Sent pictures and still he insisted it needed water. I approached him again before our 90-day warranty and he kept saying the problem is the water... Now the Avocado tree is almost dead and a couple of other trees are sick! I have asked another nursery to help me with treating the other couple of trees ( Loquat, Apple, Fig are doing well) but the Avocado is almost dead and water was not the issue. NOT GOOD BUSINESS just to save money on one tree! a bit shameful! read more

Initially, we had an appointment with Moon Valley, but because they are higher priced, I kept looking for a more economical option and found So Cal Nursery online under Plants Clearance. A call to the company put me in touch with Peter who was extremely helpful over the phone so I scheduled with him for the following day. He was personable where as Moon Valley felt a little more "salesman-y". My experience with so Cal Nursery was superb. Peter went out of his way to answer all our questions and choose trees based on our desire and need. The selection of plants and trees were healthy and beautiful. We needed shade trees and ornamental and ended up buying 21 trees from them. They also delivered all the way out to our home - 2 hours from them. The wind gusted up when they were at our home with the delivery. The two guys had already unloaded half the trees, but the gust of wind knocked them over. We had to move them all to another location on our property which they gladly helped us do. Thankfully, the trees were undamaged. I will use this nursery again in the future. They were amazing to work with!! read more

I forgot to add that I bought several 1 gallon boxwood plants. It says "1 gallon" on my receipt. Instead I received all 2.5 quart boxwood plants. At the time of drop-off I didn't notice, especially since I am not a plant expert. Later when I called and emailed customer service I never got a response. So literally I got ripped off in this respect alone, not to mention all the other ways I got ripped off. I hope this place goes out of business. read more

This place is great. I have no idea how anyone in their right mind could give them a 1 star review. They sit on acres and have a remarkable selection. Today we bought Deer Grass, Sage and Lavender which will be perfect in our large SoCal backyard. They were helpful and kind and knowledgeable. We had such a marvelous experience from beginning to end. I'll be returning very soon. I understand they have an online business as well. I can tell you, from experience, that buying online from ANY nursery is always hit and miss and most often not the fault of the nursery but simply of time and transit problems with delivery. Whenever you can I would absolutely recommend driving directly to the nursery. And finally, let me add, if you drive to SoCal nursery you will not be disappointed. read more

Update: Owner sent me an inappropriate and biased assumption message, saying I'm not their customer, I wonder if he has a log book to know who's been in their Nursery. I ordered a tree back in 06/2020, I was excited because I found a retailer who would ship during covid and It was a good reasonable price. But as all good things, it was too good to be true. I ordered the tree and it arrived. To this day its maybe grown 4 inches and produced a whopping 3 lemons. So here we are almost 2 years and the tree never grew, its still alive because leaves grow. Horrible experience and basically lost $317 ordering from their website Plantclearance.com. First off, they charged me a month before shipping. Secondly, there were major problems with the avocado trees I bought. I bought a 15-gallon Fuertes that was really a 5-gallon. First the top died so I had to top it. Still willing to plant it, I removed the "15-gallon" pot and all the soil crumbled around it except for the 5-gallon root ball. Total scam. The Hass I got was topped at a very early age with a really weak shoot growing up. The tree was a really light green color and didn't even look like a Hass. Bought their Japanese Boxwood Plants on plantclearance.com where they advertised these plants as 1 gallon containers but delivered these tiny plants in 2.5 qt containers. I tried to explain to them that a bigger volume means a better root system, since Japanese Boxwood Plants grow slow, the height of the plant doesn't matter. I wanted a refund because that wasn't what was described, George refused and said if I call my bank to dispute the charge he would put a lien on my house. Keep in mind that this was only a $60 transaction for 6 Japanese Boxwoods, the other plant I ordered with this shipment was fine (no complaints with the other plant in the shipment). If you want to see the email he sent me, let me know. You have to be careful the accuracy of what he's advertising on plantclearance.com. Also, threatening customers is not a good way to do business. BTW, they offer a 30-day warranty anyway; why not just refund me and come by and pickup the plants. read more

Do not purchase from them! Hard to get a hold of and have to follow up multiple times. They told us the lavender we wanted were in stock and to just come over and check them out. We drove from LA to Riverside and turns out it is not. They promise to order fresh lavender for us so we purchased 18 lavender plants. Within a month, 3 plants were dead, now 4 months, 16 plants had died and we are left with 2 plants. When I asked them if they had warranty on it, they said, "yes, maybe. It will depend if your gardener knows how to plant it." Our gardener had over 20 years experience. Moreover, we had roses planted alongside with the lavender which we purchased from from Guerrero Rose Farm Nursery (30 roses plants total), and they are all healthy and beautiful. I found this Nursery on Craigslist in March 2013 and bought a cargo van full of roses, succulents, herbs, other plants and soil. Peter, the owner, is a Cal Poly Horticulture graduate and he knows plants. He talked me into a white rose bush that I did not want to buy and now I am in love with this spectacular rose! So last month I wanted to pull out some terrible roses from Costco and replace them with the same white rose bushes Peter had talked me into before. I checked Yelp and a couple other sites that listed JNJ and they all said the nursery saw open on Sunday. (If you check this page you will find 'Open Sunday') A friend of mine and I got in the van and drove 40 minutes to the nursery. When we arrived the gate was closed and after 10 minutes of waiting around at the front gate I finally got a worker's attention. He went in the front 'house' and a minute later a woman opened the front door a yelled 'closed'. I told her we had drive 40 minutes and she once again yelled 'closed', nothing else. We drove back home and I needed to give myself several weeks to calm down and be able to write this review. I would like to use this nursery in the future, but I am not sure I will return. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: Healthy mature plants Good selection and varieties Peter is great, knows plants, and is willing to share his knowledge and love of plants. Prices are excellent Cons The entry to the nursery looks like a dump sight. Large pieces of shelving and junk is everywhere along the street. Inside the gate there is more junk, unkept grounds, and trash. This area in front of the house/office should be welcoming and well kept with a varied selection of 'the best of the nursery' The gate and fencing is about to fall over and looks very unprofessional. The staff are simply workers, so if Peter is not available or with other customers you are pretty well screwed to get service or have a question answered. I am not sure who the woman that yelled 'closed' was, but she should not be allowed within a mile of the nursery. She is a very negative representative for JNJ. Website listings do not have the correct hours of business and JNJ seems to do nothing to update the information. CALL FIRST! read more

Wanting to buy some fruit trees for my yard, I headed over to this nursery to check out their selection. The place was much better, much bigger, and much cheaper than I expected it to be. They have a massive fruit tree selection. Concerning just peaches, I had about ten varieties to choose from. Due to my somewhat indecisive nature the owner sat down with me to guide me through some choices that would do well in my yard. He gave me tips about chill hours, fertilizer, and the taste of the fruit. Because I don't have a truck, they even offered to deliver the items to my house for a small fee. I received much more personalized help then I would have at a Home Depot or a Lowes nursery, which I am grateful for. I'm very much looking forward to vegetable season so I can head back to this nursery and pick up some plants for my garden. On a last note, they actually do take credit cards now which makes things a bit more convenient. Overall, being here made for a fun and informative Saturday. read more

This place is awesome & so is the owner, Peter. Nice guy that's willing to help with any questions that you may have. He'll let you know which plants/trees will work for whichever type of climate you have. All of the plants here are acclimated & will take to transplantation easily once you get them home. I've never had anything die on me that I've purchased from J&J, & I have bought a lot from them. I have purchased everything from flats of flowers & ground cover, gallon bushes & fruit trees. The prices here are fantastic & cannot be beaten. I do believe that if you're in a pinch with transportation of your purchases, they do offer delivery within a certain purchase amount & city limit. They accept cash, checks, & credit and are open 7 days a week until sundown. Suggestions: If you're in the area, take a look around. If you're in need of a large amount of foliage & greenery but are on a tight budget, this is the place to go. read more

After doing a google search for fruit trees I came across this nursery. I drove over, parked my f550 out front in plane view and walked the entire property for 20 min. without seeing a single person. I called the number listed and told the person on the phone I was standing in the nursery. He came out of the house which was about 50 ft from where I made the call and he acted like I was not supposed to be there. It was about 12:30 and even though the gate was open and there where no closed sings the place looked deserted. I am a landscape contractor and like to get my materials and get on my way. I wanted to order plants from them via their plantclearance.com website. I messaged them on the website and also by email and have yet to receive a message back. I was planning on ordering 60 boxwood hedges either 5 gal or 15 gal depending on the height of the hedges also a bunch of lavender bushes, asked them if possible to send me a picture. If they didn't want to send a picture they could have message me back saying it wasn't possible and I probably would have ordered them anyway. Horrible quality plants. 15 gallon bougainvillea plants look gorgeous on their site but that is NOT what is delivered. Weak scrawny plants are what you receive. The various grasses, bushes and succulent/drought tolerant plants look GREAT on their website but what is delivered are broken agave plants. The people delivering the plants are nice but PLEASE Do Not Buy These 2nd rate plants. You cannot get a refund. read more
