I like when bars are dead, as Park Tavern was the night of a Rod Stewart show. I was able to comfortably watch Game 1 of the World Series, which was important, because Red Sox. No one was there to talk shit (well, except for the person sitting next to me), but aside from that, the 4 other people there couldn't have cared less. Beer, food and a giant projector to watch the Red Sox crush that other team. Heaven, right? Eh. The food was alright. The beer selection was okay. There are two other bars in the area I'd probably prefer going to, but for games most people don't care about (such as the World Series), I'd come back. read more

I used to come here all the time for the happy hour specials & the wings, and after a few years hiatus we dined before a Hawks game and the place has taken a turn for the worse. 1. The service is bad. Our bartender was one of the worst I've ever experienced. I don't know his name but it was bad. No greeting, never refilled the water, was not helpful in deciding what to order and didn't say thanks or goodbye. 2. The food. The wings weren't bad but they were a little undercooked. Pinkness near the bone. My partner ordered the sliders and I wish we took a picture of how horrible it looked. The sliders came with a bun, the patty and a piece of cheese..no other fixings. The side of "onion strings" were from the bottom of the barrel, probably made an hour previously and then put on a plate. So bad. Legitimately the worst service I've ever had at any establishment in the city of Chicago. They apparently need to train their staff on an appropriate table side manner because our haggard, well past his prime, server aggressively poked me in the shoulder to alert my that my drink had arrived. I have never had wait staff lay hands on me - someone should teach him about a handy phrase, known among civilized humans as, "excuse me." I can confidently say I won't be returning again. Great beer selection and decent shareable dishes. Frequently meet up with acquaintances at this location before Bulls/Hawks games, and they offer a free shuttle to and from the game. It puts out an upscale vibe in its design, but a very welcoming, relaxing spot to sit and have a few drinks and nice conversation (not to mention good food), or to meet up with friends before heading out to a game at the United Center! read more

I came to Park Tavern to attend a gathering planned by friends from the surrounding area. Situated near United Center and the Illinois Medical District. Parking is available on the street during certain hours but valet and paid parking is also available. Great place to eat after work and to watch a few games with friends. For an appetizer I ordered calamari and to drink I ordered a Grand Derby (maker's mark bourbon, grand marnier, fresh orange juice, lemon juice, sugar rim). The Grand Derby was strong but a bit bitter. The calamari were a bit undersized for the price. At times you would have to beg for the server's attention. Despite all of that I had a good time at the event. Might have to return to try other items. read more

So, after having been here for the Elite event I remembered Park Tavern after watching the Hawks game. A short walk-which was challenging enough after standing at the bar for the game but we got there with a huge crowd. Huge because the front bar was closed and everyone had to funnel into the back area, which was a little more crowded than it should have been. The three of us eventually found a space at the bar, but it felt unnecessarily crowded with a darkened bar up front. I had the Triple Karmeliet, since they had it and one of my friends ordered the Animal Tots on the advice of a staff member who had finished her shift. She didn't steer us wrong, with the egg on top of the pork and cheese curds-it was like extreme poutine. A plate of tots divided three ways couldn't satisfy me so on advice again I got the Mexibano. I loved the sandwich which went down easy but damn the fries were salty as shit! I mean, I love salty food but I must have gotten a bad batch or something because I could only eat a few before I had to stop. My friend's with their busy hands also stopped eating the fries because they couldn't handle more than one or two fries. I literally was dehydrated the rest of the night. I think next time, I'll ask to swap out another sided because they were too much. read more

Went here with some friends on a late night. We ordered nachos to share, which were devoured within minutes! There was a large quantity, and actually tasted good. I got the Cobb salad, which tasted very average, nothing special. My friends got different burgers, which were also very average tasting. Overall, I would say the food quality was 3/5, but the waitress there was super sweet, so I gave it 4/5. Parking seems to be difficult, but since we arrived later in the night I was able to park in front. There is no lot, so be prepared to look for street parking. read more

I was invited by a friend to attend Park Tavern this past Saturday... Little did I know I would be walking into the depths of the Westside into the geriatrics lounge. Everyone in there was 45 yrs+... I seriously havent paid to get into in a club for years. They charged $20 at the door, reluctantly I paid to get into what I now consider the hoods version of the Regale Beagle. The service was subpar... I ordered a Hennessy and Coke along with a pizza to share with a friend. I was told that although I was paying with cash, I would still have to start a tab with my card. I simply told the waitress no, and she obliged when she saw I wasnt backing down. I never got my pizza. And after being annoyed by the countless amount of elder men in turtle necks and with minifros... I decided one drink was all I could do. The sound system was probably equivalent to a Chicago Public Schools PA system. The speaker kept going in and out throughout the evening. When we finally left, I felt like Id just gotten out from prison and almost ran to the car. If youre in your early to mid thirties stay at home.... I will never ever go back. read more

Solid stand by in the food desert that is the Illinois Medical District. Everything is good. The fooling grilled cheese is above average. Everything else is about as you might expect. The restaurant is clean, though often cold. Prices are high but with few other options within walking distance, they can get away with it. If you are at Rush and you need to grab something to eat, this will do. Just wrap your head around a couple bucks per plate most than you wanted to spend unless you can manage to be there for a special. read more

I might like this place more than it deserves because it's the closest bar/restaurant to Rush and it's our post-exam go to spot. They have a great outdoor area if the weather is nice enough - giant Jenga, comfy seating and it's totally open so you actually can sit in the sun. They have a really good beer selection and often have decent specials. I really like the fried cheese curds so I haven't tried too many of the other food options. Buffalo chicken sandwich is expensive (like $16) but EASILY shared with two or three people. Quite tasty. read more

Came here for a large group gathering and we used their large atrium adjacent to the restaurant. The food was alright and the bartenders were super nice and attentive to everyone's needs. The servers were so nice and trying to help everyone take as much food home as possible because there was so much left over! I have been here a few times with colleagues and friends and this place is alright. It's never that busy. Has a decent selection of food and a large bar. Lots of TV around the place. They also have some outdoor space which is great over summer in Chicago. The service really sucks here. The servers are very slow but polite. It's hard to track them down as they don't check on you often. Sometimes they can be gone for 15 - 20 minutes which is huge during the not so busy hours. My friends and I came in to hang out before a Blackhawks game. We've heard good things about the place and the atmosphere. When we walked in, we were greeted by super friendly hosts and told there will be a wait- which was not a problem at all considering the game. What I DID NOT expect was the manager, of all people, to sit his friends who came in AFTER us BEFORE us and other people! I thought it was so rude and inconsiderate, especially because it caused a greater wait time. I've worked in restaurants before, and I know sometimes you can pull strings, but to do it so blatantly in front of waiting customers is just insulting. But anyway... While we were waiting, my friends and I noticed that the same manager, Kelly I found out, was even more rude to his employees!! I felt so bad for the hosts and servers he was "talking" to! I shouldn't be surprised because if he could disregard paying customers he could easily do that to his employees, but it was still upsetting nonetheless. Managers should never, ever, ever reprimand their employees in plain public view, it is wrong for the customers and embarrassing for the employees. Especially because they were friendlier and more professional than he was! When we finally sat down, we had an awesome server, Kelsey, who was attentive and funny. The food came out quickly and was delicious! The standout to me were the nachos (I highly recommend them) but everything we ordered was good too. The prices were reasonable. Overall, we thought it was a good stopping point before the game. I give this place 3 stars, mainly because I liked the atmosphere; from the hosts, to Kelsey and to the food, but my friends and I were really thrown off by the beginning of our experience, it left a sour taste before we had a chance to sit down, order and eat. So caution to all those coming in, you might be in for a show if a manager named Kelly is working. We went to Park Tavern with a huge group of family and friends after graduation and everyone had a great time! First, they were so accommodating to the size of our group. They put up with my frequent phone calls to change the reservation size as well, which was much appreciated. The food and drink menu was very extensive and had something for everyone. We all enjoyed our food and the portion sizes were large so you really get your money's worth. The service was also incredible. Our server made sure to congratulate the graduates and ask about our future plans, which was a nice extra bonus that I thought was cute and thoughtful. read more

Best place to go before a game at the UC. Food is fantastic and beer is WAY cheaper than anything at the actual UC. They even have a shuttle bus that drops you off at the UC, and will pick you back up on the way home. Awesome experience(s) every time we go! What should have been a 5 star review turns into 3 and it has nothing to do with the food which was excellent. Arrive about 4 hours before Concert at the United Center and receive high top table to enjoy some food and drinks before the show. Actually had pretty decent bottle of wine on the menu considering its a sports bar and and with that we begin. Server recommends a concoction of Tater Tots, pulled pork, etc which as she put it, is an appetizer of decadent goo. It was that good YUM.... moving on the burger was outstanding but the real winner was the french dip. Fries were excellent and plentiful. If I stop there it's 5 stars but here is when it gets hairy. First server now disappears as they got busy and we are waiting forever for her to return. Give her my credit card and again forever to return. Pay the bill but what I didn't realize is she never brought me my credit card back so It gets left there and I don't realize it till the next day. When I call them they have my card but when I check my credit card pending transactions it appeared the card was then used Multiple Times. WTH? I can't take the chance of # being out there so I had to call the credit card company and cancel card etc. This is my main card which means 2 hours of fixing recurring billings etc. In short food for sports bar etc 5 Star Service Negative 10 and the issue with the credit card just should not happen. Tldr; service is terrible, food is great. Me and 3 friends came here before a concert to grab dinner and drinks. The place was pretty busy, but we got a table with no wait, which was a good start. The moment we sat down someone came over, filled our glasses with water, and said a server would be with us in a moment. We waited 20 minutes for a server to come to our table. That included us staring at servers that came to the tables next to us but ignored us, and talking to 4 different people before someone finally came to take our order. We got a wrong drink served to us, but they fixed it for free. Once the food came it was actually pretty good. Burgers were big and cooked nicely, fried chicken was juicy, and the shrimp and deviled eggs appetizers were great. I would recommend this place for the food, but would stay away because of the service. read more

This place is absolutely incredible for those of you who enjoy getting the worst service imaginable. Every single time I come here I regret it. You might be thinking, "well, why do you keep going back?" Unfortunately, it's smack dab in the middle of my work and my home and my co-workers always want to come here because of it's convenient location. Then, funny enough, we have the same conversation every time we're here. Which consists of phrases like, "why did we come here again?" "Are we ever going to get a drink?" "I wonder if we'll ever learn our lesson" "is our server/bartender blind?" Etc. It's a real bummer because they actually have a pretty great beer selection and if you ever get someone to take your order, the food isn't bad. Today, I mistakenly came here with a friend because it's so beautiful outside and they have an amazing outdoor space. We've currently been sitting at a table for 35 minutes and have yet to receive an acknowledgement from our server...whoever he or she is. I really wouldn't come here if you're in a hurry. Oh yeah, and another thing that sucks is that they're not open on Saturdays or Sundays. Where do I even start. I mean we really shoulda stood up and left when we were wondering if anyone was gonna come by and finally take our order. At least a drink order? The homeless sitting along the bridges across the Chicago river are way more polite and courteous than this shit show if a bar. The bartender was even worse. We moved to the bar.. Sat there for awhile drink empty... Later that night I saw my bar tab had been upped twice the amount I recall signing for. When you call, no one picks up and their voicemail is full. When I came in they couldn't produce the physical receipt I signed for so now I've put in a dispute with my bank. Dead to me. The thought of this place really makes my blood boil. Hours online are INCORRECT!!!!!! We basically came here, before a Hawks game, because of the reviews. The whole experience was worth it. We arrived at good time and greeted and seated right away. Our server was Malorie and she was fantastic and answered all of our questions. We tried the Animal Tots, because of the reviews, they were delicious. My son got the kids burger, he was afraid it would be small, it was a good size and he ate every bit of it. My husband and I ordered the tacos and they were fresh and delicious. We had a couple drinks each and the overall bill wasn't too bad at all. I will definitely recommend this establishment to my friends and family and the next time we are down for another Hawks game, we will for sure come back. read more

Came in on a week night for a couple drinks and dinner. This was the first time here as I recall when it used to be a club. Found the spot on YELP as it fit my needs to have drinks food and watch the Bulls play NY Knicks. As I took a look over the reviews and great pics yelpers posted of food I knew this was our spot. The place was packed with Bulls fans ready to head over to the stadium. We ordered the fish and pulled chicken tacos with the brussel sprouts as the app. I was happy that I was able to get grilled fish tacos instead of the fried as it is not on the menu. The server was willing to accommodate the request. The place was very noisy which I had already expected since it's a sports bar that fans hang out at before games. The brussel sprouts were"OK" . I've definitely had better at places like " Monkeys Paw" and Mastro's. The meal overall was not bad. I enjoyed the tacos but wished there was more grilled fish on them. The longer I stayed the more I wanted to go to the game down the street instead of watching it on tv. The bar has a shuttle that drops fans off at the United Center and picks up mid 4th quarter. I decided to be spontaneous as I am always and try to get last minute tix at the box office or online. FYI, I was told that a guy whose name and number was taken off the bathroom wall sells tix. Unfortunately he was unable to accommodate this evening as Bulls vs Knicks was a hot commodity. I decided we would just hop on the shuttle with the rest of the fans and take the chance at the box office. The game was sold out everywhere online and the box office wanted one hundred bucks for 300 level standing room only. "No good !" Headed back to Park Tavern and had more drinks. Woohoo! We were looking for a good place to get dinner while on our way to University Village and Park Tavern appeared on my girlfriend's Yelp app. Thank God for Yelp. I almost feel like it's my civic duty to give back by contributing reviews because my girlfriend has used the app so much to find awesome new places to try. The atmosphere in here I would liken to a more upscale sports bar. There were a bunch of high chairs at the bar, which created a cool aesthetic. It created a kind of romantic atmosphere. I know, right? In a sports bar? That's what Park Tavern delivers. There's really something for everyone here. We tried a beer flight to start, which was fairly generously portioned with four different beers to try. I generally enjoyed most of them, though one of them was too hoppy for my tastes. I was a little disappointed that a few of the ones I wanted were not included as options for the flights. It all worked out fine for me, though. My girlfriend and I were both eyeing the grilled cheese with candies bacon, but we didn't both want to get the same thing, so I let her get it. I opted for a burger, which was pretty darn good. Then, I tried her grilled cheese and it was really fantastic--definitely the star of our meal. I wanted her to have leftovers so I could steal them, but she gobbled it up. I can't say I blame her! Our service was great--friendly and prompt. No complaints here. I would love to come back here whenever I'm in the area. The food menu looks solid, as does the drink menu. read more

A very good friend of mine just recently had his birthday party here and it was a good time on a recent Saturday nite. I didn't spend much time inside as he had his party on the outside area. We were able to go get all of our drinks from the bar all night and they served us some pretty good appetizers especially the animal tots. Music was rocking and everyone had a blast! I came here before my first Hawks game. It is within walking distance of the United Center but they also offer free bus shuttle service before and after the game. I was here for a private event which used the east side banquet area. This area is carpeted complete with large round tables, tall boys, and a mini bar. The mini bar looked like a re-purposed coat check room. The west side is the main bar and restaurant area. Large modern sports bar with plenty of tables, bar space, televisions, you name it. They also have a nice large outdoor area. This place is kind of hidden within a commercial like building. If you weren't looking for it you wouldn't know it was there. My buddy left his phone here before going to the game and they actually still had it when we returned. What are the chances of that? The manager helped us find it and he was very kind. read more

I was impressed with this place when I first walked in. Those of you familiar with this area know that there aren't many places like this in that neighborhood. It is very close to the United Center, Malcolm X College, and all of the Illinois Medical District. On game days they offer a shuttle from the United Center to Park Tavern. They also have FREE WIFI. This makes it an ideal place to meet with study buddies for adults like myself who have recently returned to school. The food is okay, nothing to brag about, however, the beer selection is great. Servers are friendly and attentive. The Park Tavern itself if very big and spacious, lots of tables and booths. Very clean-cut modern/rustic decor. They have a back area that would make for good office parties. Overall, good experience. I plan to return. read more

EAT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! This use to be a go to spot for me since I work in the area and they have decent lunch specials. This changed since my experience today made me nauseous. For starters, my party's food (3 orders) was brought out of the kitchen and left on a ledge at the entrance of the bar. This is a high traffic area with employees coming in and out, as well as people picking up carry out orders. I don't know who would consider this a sanitary area for food staging. The person who left it there could have taken the five extra steps to serve us our food. Once the food finally made it to us, the lemon that I requested was not on the plate. I requested the lemon for a second time. The bartender, who is also serving, cleaning, and ringing (people at the bar as well as to go orders) grabs the lemon wedges with his BARE HANDS!!! He then proceeded to walk across the length of the bar (wedges still in bare hand) and puts them on plate and serves them to me. I could have thrown up on the spot. I proceeded to push the plate away and told him that I didn't want lemons he touched with bare hands. He looked confused like he didn't understand why this was not okay. I flagged down the manager, who just so happened to be walking by. He did provided untouched lemon but he also laughed it off like it was no big deal. No apology. After his reaction to the situation I decided to send my food back. Sanitation should be taken serious and this place does not take it serious. If they do this in front of your face I can't imagine what's going on behind the scenes. read more

We ate a late dinner here once we got to the city. We were staying on the medical campus for a seminar and Park Tavern had the best Yelp reviews close. First, it was a Monday night so there was noone there. Mon. night football was on like 15 TVs and that was great. We got there late (like 9PM) and they were still serving full menu. Yay! We ordered some yummy Hopslayer beer and that was obviously good! For dinner we both ordered the "MOO" This was slow cooked brisket in a BBQ sauce. I give it a solid "A". It was a HUGE order and I couldn't finish it (that never happens). I had a side of broccolini "A" and mashed potatoes. I was very happy with the meal and the game being on like 50 televisions. For a monday night we weren't looking for a busy bar so "empty" was perfect. I will be back on a busier night to see what that's like, but so far so good! read more

I've been here a few times before Bulls and Blackhawks games. The food is super good for a quick bite, but the service is AWFUL! The first time I went we waited 10 minutes and never were helped after being seated so we walked up to the bar. The bartender (man with ponytail) apologized that they were really busy and took our order. We saw the happy hour till 5:30pm and thought we could catch a few bites because it was only 5:15pm. However the bartender claimed it ended at 5pm and the menu was wrong.....okay. He was super nice though and even took a percentage off the bill because he felt bad about the service. The second time I went it was right around 5pm and the bartender let us grab a few drinks and place a food order. She was super sweet and we really appreciated her promptness and helpfulness. This third and I hate to say it last time was by far the worst. We walked in with 5 minutes to spare before happy hour was over to grab just 1 drink a piece. Our bartender/server who had reddish hair and glasses was SO rude! I asked if I can have a happy hour drink and she ripped her phone out of her pocket and said nope it's over. I checked my phone and said it wasn't even 5pm yet? She said oh yeah well I can't do it because "the buttons disappear at 5pm on the computer". Lady really you can give me 1 drink at the happy hour price when it isn't even over yet!! She ignored us the rest of the time and we had to finish being waited on by Kati (she's the best) because this lady literally would not come by us. I think she felt pretty dumb about what she said. Anyways if you are coming before a game go to Ogden for same quality food and awesome drink specials for game days.
