Chocolate Croissant

Amazing we definitely will be going back- last year we went to seaside location- today we went to the Monterey location. Everything from pastries sweet & savory sandwiches, cookies, cakes & bread- chocolate crescents ask for them to be heated up. So much chocolate & wonderful pasty.

One of my favorite bakeries in Monterey, my mom and I love to come here and now I come with my husband! I am a fruit tart gal and I think they have the best tarts, fruit is so fresh and sweet and their coffee is nice and smooth! I love it but it's a tiny bit expensive fyi - totally worth it! Staff is nice and helpful, the owner or I think is the manager is super sweet! Love it!

Cinnamon Twist: A bit dry and overly flaky. I was hoping for a stronger cinnamon flavor. My least favorite one. 5/10 Ham and Cheese Croissant: It was alright, but felt a bit flat. Probably would've been better warmed up. 6/10 Cheese Danish: I loved how generous they were with the cream cheese, every bite had plenty! Definitely a highlight. 7.5/10 Almond Croissant: One of my favorites! The white chocolate drizzle added a nice touch of sweetness that paired well with the almond. I really liked this one. 8.5/10 Chocolate Croissant: The chocolate had a slightly chalky texture, which threw it off a bit. Still decent overall. 7/10 Croissant Sandwich: Felt a bit flat and overpriced. Nothing standout just your average basic sandwich. 7/10

Good bakery with lots of different croissants, cinnamon rolls, scones, cakes, cookies, sandwiches, coffee drinks & teas to choose from. Conveniently close to Monterey's downtown Alvarado Street. We had breakfast here and were impressed by the wide variety of beautiful baked goods in their showcase. We enjoyed the strawberry almond croissant and blueberry scone. They were both delicious and a good size. I had drip coffee and they allow free refills which is nice. The coffee is a little on the weak side for me but I usually like really strong coffee. They give really big mugs for hot tea which is really nice. Pleasant place with nice sunlight in this corner location.

Receipt of Purchase, not worth paying for under filled pastries.

This was our first and last time going since it has changed ownership. The service was nice enough. As you can see from the pictures, there is little to know filling in the pastries. The flavor was okay but the price is not worth it. The size doesn't make up for not having anything in it. My scone had one or two raspberries if that. The jalapeño croissant was sad and barely had any cheese. This is a very sad excuse for what it used to be. I was hoping it wouldn't have changed this much. I should've known when I saw the display case 1/3 of the size. I figured we could try but we were VERY disappointed. Everything else looks the same inside but it's nowhere close to the quality and flavor it used to be.

This is one of our favorite stops when we are visiting Monterey. It is a nice walk when we are staying near Cannery Row. This cafe is off the beaten path, located 2 blocks away from the main Alvarado Street that gets more foot traffic. There has never been a problem getting a table to eat there, but then, we tend to stop by just after the lunch rush. It can get warm when the heat form the sun comes through the windows with southern exposure. Seating in the main area is wheelchair accessible through their main corner entrance. There are a few steps going up to the back seating area ; it's technically wheelchair accessible since the cafe has another street entrance back there, however it would require you to place your order in the lower main section of the cafe, then go outside the main door and come back in through the back door. They also have a couple of tables set up outside. There's also a restroom at the cafe, which is convenient for washing hands after eating sandwiches. There are 2 sides to the cafe, a bakery side and a lunch/sandwich/salad side. They have a good variety of sandwiches, a few salads and soup. Ask them what the Soup of the Day is. My daughter loved their Tortilla Soup, but we haven't seen it there during the last few visits. Perhaps it's just bad timing that they don't have it on the days we visit. We noticed that the prices have gone up since our last visit the year before. During our latest visit, we ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich ($13), warmed, which was delicious. The BLT Sandwich ($13), also warmed, and pretty tasty. The Veggie Delight ($13) was a bit lacking, and it used to have avocado in it. Note : There is an extra "Delivery Fee" charged when you order at the cafe and dine in (see photo of receipt) . Maybe you should just order for delivery to receive the service you are automatically charged for?

We happened to be walking downtown and passed this bakery. It was my husband's birthday so I popped in to see about getting him a little treat. There are a few small tables and seats outside so he waited with our pup while I checked it out. Even though it was a little later in the day the displays were mostly full. I'm not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. There were lots of pastries; danish, croissants, eclairs, but I saw a lavender cake I thought would be perfect! I also ended up getting a bread pudding us as well. That evening I presented him with the piece of cake but he took a bite and did not care for it. IlWe also tried the pudding but it was dock hard. We through the pudding out immediately but I tried to finish the cake however I was unable. It was far too dry and lacking flavor. To be fair, it was late in the evening by the time we got to our treats but they still should not have been that dry or stale. This is the only time I've been to this location and it will probably be the last so just know that this review is only based on one experience here.

Fresh quiche and sandwiches

Service was excellent here for our first time visit. We got our order to go and ordered a variety of sandwiches, quiches, and baked goods. Inside there is a nice seating area. They had tables outside as well. At home we enjoyed the clam chowder and French onion soups. We only got a cup of each that were fairly small servings. I had some of both and preferred the chowder. Nice and creamy with chunks of potato and clams. The French onion was good but I did want more broth. The soups came with large French rolls. The sandwiches were good. The ratio of bread to filling is pretty high though. Our favorites were the croque monsieur and chicken focaccia. Hubby had the petit pain salami sandwich and liked it. Though he mentioned that he liked more filling in his sandwich, he said that the bread was very good so that he didn't mind this. Overall we had a nice lunch.

Egg and Bacon Croissant, Peppermint Latte, Almond Croissant

Gracias a Rocio! Her service was amazing! She was extremely patient with me as it was my first time there. I got the Almond croissant, Egg and Bacon Croissant, and a hot peppermint latte. I will be back for sure! The vibes here were relaxing and the music choice was 10/10!

Opera Cake Slice

I used to frequent this spot ages ago with my gal pals & always had a tasty experience. On the search to satisfy a hankering for an almond croissant on a Saturday afternoon while visiting the area, we came here...only to find that their closing hour was at 2p & we got there a little after 3p. However, when we peeked through the glass, we saw there were people inside. The door was opened to us! They hadn't shut down the till yet, so we could still be served! The caveat was that they didn't have as many items available & some were in the back not on display. We got a couple of almond croissants & a slice of opera cake. The croissants were fabulous--yummy, flaky, buttery. The opera cake was flavorful, but too sweet for us. The bakery was still how I remembered it after all this time--a small narrow shop with a big case of goodies, some tables on 2 levels, & a big mural on the back wall. When we paid, our bag of croissants was accidentally dropped on the ground unapologetically, but with an assurance that they'd be fine. Customer service was sufficient & straightforward, & it was easy to give a pass on the lack of enthusiasm since I really appreciated the after hours service. They even let some other customers in after us.

Ask the Community - Paris Bakery Cafe

Did they update their hours??? Or do they close at 2pm everyday still?

They close every day at 2pm. And closed on Tuesdays.

Are u open?

I drove by yesterday and they were closed. Monterey is doing shelter in place and so I think they're closed because of that.

Do they have vegan options?

Idk, but I had several questions about what they offer. Between the two ladies, they explained & explained again, they are busy, but not so busy to take their time for you.

What's keto on the dessert side?

Cheat day.

Any gluten free options?

Yes, they have a little sign next to the register that lists the gluten-free options

What keto options do they have?

Both the sandwich selections and some of the pastries have the properties of being keto friendly like "eggs" being used for alot of the pastries and a selection of meats for their sandwiches but I didn't see anything that is specifically for keto… Read more

Do they have baklava?

No, they do not have baklava as it is a French bakery.

What is the must try and the most decadent cake here? Out of towner looking for tips

Princess cake! Not bite sized and not party sized. Get the medium sized one.

Are there vegan options?

Yes

It's a small shop, and since I wasn't sure yet if I wanted a pastry, I ordered a coffee first while my husband looked at the case. One of the women behind the counter told me, "Usually you order pastries first and then we get the coffee at the end." The way it was said immediately made me feel uncomfortable, like I was somehow doing something wrong. I apologized and explained we weren't from here and I wasn't even sure yet if I wanted anything else. Their tone changed after that and became much friendlier, which honestly made the interaction feel even more awkward. My husband ended up ordering pastries, including a chocolate croissant for me, and both the latte and croissant were good. Sometimes the experience matters just as much as the food. It's hard to fully enjoy a place when your first impression made you feel unwelcome. I truly wanted to love this spot because it came so highly recommended as she visited it daily, but I left feeling more embarrassed than excited to return.

It didn't look like it died down which is awesome for this business. I believe I waited 20-30 minutes in line before I reached the display case. There were so many delicious things to choose from, it was a challenge to decide! I opted for a croissant sandwich, a blue corn cookie, and some sweet treats for the beach. I also ordered a seasonal latte, I believe it was cherry chocolate with oat milk less sweet. There's a nice outdoor seating area with many tables in chairs. Since the weather was nice we decided to stop and eat for a bit. The ambience was very nice and calm. The food was delicious and their house made pickles were fantastic. They were crisp, fresh, and complimented the turkey sandwich so well. The blue corn cookie was very interesting and reminiscent of a tortilla chip. The salmon croissant was alright, had a really nice flaky crust but the filling tasted kinda gamey , would've been nice to have another component to balance it out. Cookies were niceeeee the buckwheat choco cookie had nice amounts of sea salt and was like a brownie texture on the inside. Choco chip cookie was thin and crispy on the outside with chocolate blobs spread around, quite sweet though There was a line going out the door but only had to wait around 15 min!

This was my first time here and many people ahead of me in line were ordering them. Truthfully I'm not really a quiche person but this one looked divine. Mate latte was great and definitely would get this drink again. They also have a smoked mate drink and I would definitely come back to try this too! You have to like yerba mate to fully appreciate this drink. The mate latte is kind of a light version of what mate is like. Maybe start with this first to prepare you for traditional mate.
