I recommend anyone near this place come & enjoy the French style pastries & take the time to eat there while listening to french music & looking at pictures of Paris. When you walk in, it feels small but theres more seating towards the back. The pictures of the bread & pastries dont lie, their as good as they look. It was hard to make a decision, but finally went with these: My kid had the princess cake & she said it was too sweet. The inside was less sugary & the presentation was nice. Nothing a hot chocolate couldnt fix. My wife & I shared a breakfast croissant that made my morning & paired it with A Napoleon treat, caramel latte & chai latte. They were the best. I wanted to truly like this place but their pastries are nothing special. I came here during a weekday, small line. I spent $41!! On a croque, a mini sandwich, 3 croissants and a scone. I couldn't eat the whole croque :( it cost $8 and I'm a cheese lover but this was just a mess of cheese with no toasty bread. Their croissants are good very flake but again nothing superb. Their scones are ok, I grabbed a cranberry orange. Their coffee was probably the best thing, very strong and good but very pricey. Not sure if I will come back. Croissants are supposed to crunchy,flaky on the outside, and buttery tasting in the middle with a light chew. These are day old tasting and texture is like a roll. Almond croissants, not sure what is happening there. Flat, wet, not flaky in the least bit. Palmier must have been at least 2 days old. Not crispy/crunchy at all. The baguette, well, Costco has better, fresher bread than here. Go to another bakery, this place is selling old, frozen goods. read more

I had two chocolate croissants, almond croissant, cheese croissant, Mona Lisa, and a white mocha. The almond croissant was delicious. The chocolate croissant had plenty of chocolate. The croissants were flaky and layered. The Mona Lisa was too sweet for me. Overwhelming taste of chocolate. The white mocha was very sweet and the coffee had a bitter taste. I wasn't sure if I was drinking coffee or hot chocolate but I didn't enjoy that drink. The woman wasn't very friendly but she was fast and efficient. Paris Bakery makes THE best Princess Cake and I searched high and low in Monterey to find a bakery that makes them. I ordered one for a baby shower for for a baby boy and requested it to be tinted in blue instead of the traditional pastel green. So we called it a "prince" cake! Hehe. Traditionally it is a classic Scandinavian torte with layers of sponge cake, raspberry jam, vanilla custard, and whipped cream. It is traditionally covered with a layer of sweet marzipan tinted green. They even add the extra step of using fresh raspberries on the inner layer. The marzipan "frosting" layer was super fresh and it was the perfect touch of sweetness. All the guests were asking what it was and where it was from. This place used to be wonderful. But things have changed. The lines moves half as fast as it used to since they computerized their cash registers and some items aren't fresh anymore. But last week did it for me. While I was standing in the incredibly slow line to get my item I looked into the kitchen and saw a man butchering a small animal on the same wooden table on which I've seen them knead bread dough. How have the mighty fallen... we bought a cherry and a cream cheese croissant today. The size of the croissants has dropped by about 40%, and there was virtually no filling- and yet, they were five bucks each, so their price has gone up. Service was good, though there's never been much ambiance to speak of... so I'm mourning the fall into mediocrity of what was once the premier bakery in Monterey. Service was great and this place offers a great variety of desserts/pastries. I didn't know what to get at first because of all the options but I ended up getting the bread pudding and my husband ended up getting the almond croissant. We also ordered some drinks... I got the iced chai latte and my husband got the iced coffee. Iced coffee from here is a big NO NO... don't even bother you'll be disappointed. The iced chai was good but not my favorite. I found the almond croissant to be really delicious to the point I'd visit again just for that. The bread pudding was a disaster. It literally tasted like nothing and it had weird cardboard texture. I honestly I don't know who baked the bread pudding but they need to taste test it before they sell it to customers. I took one bite and I knew then that it's time for it to go in the garbage. My boyfriend and I ordered the chocolate croissant, chocolate almond croissant and bread pudding. Both of the croissants were absolutely amazing. I wish I had gotten the plain almond croissant over the chocolate almond as I felt the chocolate was a little overpowering of the almond flavor. The bread pudding was also good but I would highly recommend getting pastries over the bread pudding if you are deciding between the two. Great spot! We had a delicious and relaxing breakfast! By 9 am on Sunday the line starts to form but we got in before then. The ham and cheese quiche and so so yummy. Flaky and buttery and the egg was creamy. This USED to be our go to for lunch once a week after the gym. Not any more since it was sold. The staff , what's left of them, is as great as ever but the new management has changed the menu and the prices considerably. We went again yesterday to see if things had improved, sadly not. My friend said her sandwich was dry , tasteless and NOT on the usual type of bread. My favorite "veggie delight" sandwich is now close to half the original size, with no avocado that I could find, plus, ordering (and PAYING) for the addition of cooked beets is no longer an option. Evidentially, we are not the only ones who are not happy w/the current situation. This place used to be packed ,w/a line out the door at lunch time and tables full of happy locals, which certainly was not the case when we were there at lunch time on Tuesday. Word is getting out about the changes.....not to mention there are plenty of other local eateries in Monterey to spend our time and money in. COVID precautions were good. Bought several items. 1) chocolate mousse cake was excellent. 2) carrot cake was okay. 3) cheesecake was excellent. Not overly sweet, and nice fluffy texture. 4) almond croissant was a major disappointment. It looked delicious but was under cooked and soggy, like it had been left in a pool of water for the morning. This is a little hidden gem that I wish I found sooner. I frequently visit Monterey to visit family and this is the first time I heard about this place. We happened to be staying at a hotel right above the ever bustling Alvarado St. Since Alvardo St. is in walking distance, we took a stroll to find something to eat but the lines were outrageous. Then my nephew mentioned Paris Bakery which is a couple blocks down, parallel to Alvarado. Paris Bakery is located on the corner, but unless you know it is there, it is easy to miss. The bakery itself is small, but they have an abundance of pastries and food. My family loves bakeries and we often walk out with more than needed. There were a total of 9 of us but split into 3 orders. The ladies working there were extremely patient and didn't rush us despite a line out the door. Just for my family of 4 we ordered 2 ham and cheese croissants, breadsticks, cinnamon twist, 2 chocolate covered strawberries, a custard pastry, a fruit pastry, a turkey sandwich, coffee and a couple of cookies. The total came out to under $40 which was surprising because I can easily spend that anywhere else. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. My daughter liked the ham and cheese croissant so much she wouldn't share. And it even had eggs which she didn't mind. Everything was devoured right away with the exception of my turkey sandwich which I brought for lunch the next day. My sister recommended this place to me and I'm glad she did, as I would have never stopped in if it wasn't for her! It's a little off the beaten path for a Monterey tourist like myself as it's not near Cannery Row and not on the wharf either. We ordered an almond croissant and the chocolate ganache. The croissant was great, buttery and flaky with almonds spilling over the sides and the paste inside very tasty as well. Chocolate ganache was great as well, nice and rich. A good combination for me! It had been some time and I went back to the register to check on my coffees and they never put the order in. The staff member that assisted me entered the coffee order into the register and then said "You don't have to pay for it." Of course not, I already did! I repeated my orders and a few minutes later they said my Cafe Au Lait was ready and I asked about the 2nd coffee and they looked at me confused. I said I ordered a Cafe au Lait and a Chai Latte. Was super excited to come try this place! It looked delicious from the pictures. Was very disappointed with the customer service we received. There was no indication to where the line started or ended or even a number system. It was confusing and when my mom got to the front the woman asked if she was ready and as my mom was asking if she was in the right part of the line the woman was super rude and just staring at her like she was stupid. We have never been to this establishment before and we're from out of town celebrating my mom's birthday. So we were very upset about the service we received and ended up leaving. There was 8 of us in total so they lost a lot of business just because the lady couldn't answer a simple question of how the line worked. Won't ever be coming back here.
