I have such fond childhood memories of going there with my parents and grandparents and receiving what seemed like foot-tall soft-serve cones. They also make the best malts, terrific burgers, and excellent deli sandwiches. The pastrami on rye and grilled cheese are dependable favorites--or you can splurge on a classic banana split. Add fries, with or without chili, and you have the perfect old-school meal. When I was growing up, they called what most people know as a chocolate-and-vanilla twist a "ripple." That is still what I order--and what I call it--wherever I am in the world, even when people look at me funny. Whenever I am in Pasadena visiting family and friends, a stop at Connal's for a ripple, shake, burger, and fries is practically mandatory. Some places serve food; others hold generations of memories. Connal's does both.

The salami was processed, not dry. It came with a major portion of yellow mustard (not requested), tons of finely chopped wet lettuce, no cheese. Horrible and soggy. I would have requested my money back, but it was a to-go order. The quality of the entire restaurant has gone, and it seems no one cares, as this has been going on for over a year. Inside the restaurant, the tables were empty and unclean. The wall decor sign for the restaurant, was broken and meant nothing as it was missing the store name. It was an icon restaurant, but now broken, and terribl.

I heard a sad story that the Boo's Philly Cheesesteaks Silver Lake location was shutting down (they currently had locations in Echo Park and Koreatown), so I felt I had to pay my last respects to a place I frequented when I first moved into the area over a decade ago. Like a Tommy's burger, I craved something horribly sloppy and bad for you in every possible way, and for a time this was my go-to especially since I was able to take a casual walk to it. I'm older now and not necessarily wiser, but my body just couldn't handle it as it once did. Founded by an immigrant South Korean family by way of New Jersey, they made their way to Los Angeles to try and fill a need for authentic real cheesesteaks that any Philadelphian would proudly say "legit". Would I boo their Philly-inspired cheesesteak efforts!? PURCHASE(S) Cheese Fries Large ($7.95): A decent portion size of golden crispy crunchy steaming spud sticks with a side of hot gooey Cheez Whiz, ideally you'd scatter out the fries and pour the cheese on top of them. I was lazy and simply dunked each one into the cheese. However, you ran into the issue of your cheese solidifying which made it harder to dip your fries into it. Lesson learned... https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=9sOf0rQzJW9CNmfKuc_Ujw Boo's Pepper Mushroom Cheesesteak w/Cheez Whiz Sandwich ($13.95): Served with thinly-sliced steak, grilled onions, mushrooms, sweet peppers, and your choice of cheese (of course I went with Cheez Wiz!) on an amoroso roll, this was a hot mess (in a good way!) of epic proportions. The sandwich was stuffed to the edges of dripping hot steaming ingredients that burned the inside of your mouth if you weren't careful. Everything basically congealed as it started to cool due to its exposure to the air. All of the flavors eventually melded together with the separate flavors present when you first started devouring it. This wasn't for the faint of heart, and you may regret having eaten this monstrosity when you woke up in the morning. It was worth it! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=iojHuknmyjcxgnClXJ6pyA SERVICE I approached the outside self-service order kiosk, placed my order, and in less than ten minutes a young gentleman appeared from inside with my order in hand as he called out my name. It was all quick and painless - thank you! PARKING (FREE): I luckily found a spot in their tiny lot (maybe six spots total). Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of parking along the main drag of Fountain Ave. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE In its latest incarnation since the pandemic, it had become only an order kiosk system and no more indoor dining. There was a communal wooden bench outside if you wanted to enjoy your meal. However, it wasn't very inviting, and you were up against a very busy, loud intersection. There was plenty of natural lighting since you were outdoors with only the electric street lights to help you at night. There were no TVs nor background music with the exception of the buzzing vehicle traffic. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=zqh3hCvkdUmGekZj-SBHTg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL In my homage to Silver Lake's Boo's Philly Cheesesteak location, they were a wonderful piece of the neighborhood, still one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've had outside of Philadelphia, and I always got my money's worth. The food wasn't healthy, but it did its job and tasted very good as it went down (coming out was a different story!). The prices were affordable and comparable, the portions were hefty, the menu selection was very limited, and the service was straightforward. .Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $24.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Wow! What a gem!…read more Found this on my way home from work. It's a stand in the corner, mom and pop style. Food is delicious. Service is fast. They have a self order style counter where you buy and pay on a kiosk and then your order is made. At first, I thought is was a bit expensive but when eating the Philly cheesesteaks, I thought it was worth it. The size, the quality of the meat and cheese plus the toppings, chef's kiss! There's outside sheeting and a few parking spaces.

First, I was taught to wash my hands before eating. And second, I determine how well kept a kitchen is, based off of how well a place of business keeps up their restrooms. Let me just say, this place was so disgusting. The guy running the joint knew it, too and was so embarrassed he began accosting me as I waited outside the restroom, since it was occupied at that time. Needless to say, I left without ordering and went right across the parking lot to Rosarito. They didn't have a public restroom, but they let me use their only toilet. After washing my hands, I ordered the most amazing breakfast burrito of my life... for less than $10. Hopefully Lee's cleans their act (and place) up. Great customer service and sandwiches. Parking on the streets or behind the building. You can order over the phone, online or in person. They have a separate pick up area if you're pre-ordering (good to know). Love the interior, it's small but cozy. So good that my wife traded me sandwiches after one bite. (That's love to will the others good even in a sandwich). The veggie supreme was a good combo with the TTC. Everything tasted fresh and it was the best sandwich we have had in a while. Nothing beats a good mouth watering sandwich, watching the kids play and seeing the "Kevin's" at the Arboretum. It was my first time there and it was pretty obvious. I think the manager or owner was working at a table and even offered to give me her space. (I had a tote with me). Like what? How nice! But I chose a table in the middle. It's a small space so not a lot of room. They do offer patio seating but it was feeling like Hades in Pasadena so I opted to eat inside. It very much feels like you're eating in someone's kitchen and I think that was the feel. I got the antipasto salad. OMG. It's extremely generous with everything on it (see pics) and though it would be enough for two people, you're not going to want to share. They gave me little bread crackers and bruschetta to start. The service was amazing and honestly, I think I found a new favorite spot. Highly recommend!

I've gotten at least a dozen sandwiches (and likely more) from Ike's over the years, and it was always my favorite local sandwich shop after they finally opened a location in the northeast side of LA. But I must say, as of late, their quality is really not the same as the past. I recently ordered a sandwich that came with mushrooms and it was barely cooked and mostly raw. Having raw mushrooms in a sandwich is really not it, and considering each sandwich here is about $16+ post tax and tip (yes I did tip), I think we can expect a little better quality, or at the very least, not having basically raw mushrooms in a sandwich. While they do have many sandwiches to choose from on such a vast menu, and everything is customizable (just with additional charges), it does feel like they'd do better if they nail down some of the details like making sure their cooked ingredients are actually cooked. All that said, the store is kept clean, there's some dine in tables as well as outdoor seating. The music indoors is kept loud, and the decor is very colorful and bold. Service feels like what you'd expect from employing recent high school or college students at their first jobs, but it's always been polite. Pictured: one of the many sandwiches I've consumed over the years from Ike's. This one attached happened to be from 2023.

Was craving a good sandwich in the Pasadena area and found this place on Yelp. Good reviews so decided to try it. Sorry but sorely disappointed. Got two things: Garlic chicken sandwich and Beef Lule wrap. Garlic chicken sandwich was pretty good. There was a decent amount of the garlic sauce which made it tasty. But after a while the garlic after taste becomes too much. If you try this place this is the sandwich to get. In Yelp photos there are a lot of this sandwich so it's popular. We shred this one so after only half the sandwich, I felt it was enough garlic taste. The other item we got was a Beef Lule wrap. It was pretty messy and the pita bread was incredibly soggy and fell apart. I just don't have wraps come out like that. The meat was ok but the whole thing was dry. It was made like a sandwich but in a wrap and it just didn't work for me. It seems like it needs Tzatziki sauce or something. I just thought it could have been a much better wrap. You need to keep it in the wrapper because it just falls apart. I don't recommend this thing. Stick with the popular items towards the top of the list on the menu.
