So I went into Parcel yesterday looking for a birthday gift for a woman I don't know very well. She was, however, kind enough to invite me to a significant birthday party she was having. Nancy, the owner, had several suggestions but then mentioned the "crown bar"!!! OMG - what could be better than a custom crown for a special person on her birthday. I bought the crown frame and then a few knick knacks for decorations. It was a smashing success. The birthday girl loved it and wore it all night long. Giving is such a pleasure when you get it right!!! This store is absolutely amazing. Go there, take your time and peruse all the treasures. I was surprised to learn that much of the card printing is done in house. You'd never guess from the relaxed and peaceful vibe that such industry is going in the back. The cards are original and wide ranging in their design style - when you give one, it will bring pleasure to the recipient and say much about you, the giver. Absolutely horrible experience. I walked in and thought to myself, "this place is perfect!" I was enchanted by all the decor but the charm quickly faded when I met the owner. I told her if she did a good job with my place cards I would consider hiring her for my wedding invites. Her reply was "is that a threat or a promise?" I brushed the comment off and continued with ideas for the place cards, to which most of her responses were a snoody "well I guess, if that's what you like." When I asked for examples of things I was describing, to give her an idea as to what I was looking for, she said she didn't have anything to what I was describing. Which was basically a card board color with gold pressed corners and a mason jar image. Finally, what drove me to the edge was her last comment. We were talking about gold pressing and the process and cost. When I said to her "cost really isn't an issue" her reply was "Oh? How did you get that?" Basically asking one of the most personal question of "how do you have money." I was appalled and left the store in a fit of anger. I'm sure she does OKAY work, but the owner is a very rude and snobby person that has a lot of negativity surrounding her. I do not work well with negative people and I will never be coming back in to this establishment. read more

Parcel is a veritable treasure trove of ephemera and the like. Wait, did you just think you were reading a review of Dunkin Donuts that was just going to say, "The donuts are alright,"? A store like this deserves some distinction because you can tell they take a lot of time in deciding what to stock their displays with. Well curated and carefully crafted with a touch of "we know better than you" (they do), Parcel is full of things interesting gifts are made of. If you are shopping for yourself you are likely to become enraptured with multiple things you will just appreciate, but not necessarily use. A vintage journal that is too good to write in, old postcards that you will never send anyone, game cards from games you never heard of - these are the trinkets you will want. However, there is much more value here than just to fill up your decorative areas in your home. This is where you go to get personal and meaningful gifts for people who you care about.* Parcel is paper heavy and does custom cards to boot. It is the type of place you spend 45 minutes in and then wonder how that happened. I didn't just come up with ephemera, they actually have a section marked ephemera. If you are quasi hip, love Etsy and DIY or are paper obsessed, you understand how awesome this is. Next time you have one day to go and a good friend or loved one is having a birthday, go to Parcel and get them something they will appreciate. This shop is a highly curated museum to paper products. Lots of vintage finds, exotic glitters and curiousities. The owner clearly has an aesthetic which she artfully assorts to. The place is crammed full of stuff, and like the other reviewers mentioned, you could clearly spend hours in there! However, I'm not sure how this place remains in business. I went in this week looking for holiday party invitations. In the week before thanksgiving, I felt like I was probably a little late to be looking for such a thing... but at Parcel there wasn't any holiday display, and finding a packaged holiday invitation was difficult. Let alone finding 30 of the same card -- that would have been impossible. After 20 minutes of looking, I finally realized this place wasn't going to be able to help me out. The person who helped me suggested I could get some custom printed, but the custom printing area had boxes and boxes of crap piled in front of it. Even if that had been in my budget/timeframe, I couldn't have even gotten to the stuff to make my selection. I hate to be so down on a store that is really about the love of anything (in this case paper) -- but attempting to shop at this store really was a nightmare, which I don't wish to repeat. Definitely one of the most unique stores I have ever been to. I initially thought I was walking into a quaint gift shop, and while there are gift items here, this is a vendor of paper products. Average they are not, with gift wrap, stationary, ribbons galore, tons of trinkets and even kewpie dolls, and lots of 'one of a kind' type items. The store has an antique, artsy vibe, but the products are very high end, ranging from the very beautiful - as in the hand painted papers, to the very odd almost bizarre. I wish I had more time to look around, there were just way too many objects to admire,will have to go back. read more

I recently worked with Nancy on my wedding invitations, and I must sing her praises. I had designed my own invitations on adobe illustrator and headed to Parcel in search of paper and printing services. I called in advance and emailed my file before coming in, which was great because Nancy was ready to work with me right when I arrived 30 minutes later. Beyond the diverse selection of papers and envelopes, Nancy really knows her craft. She pointed out elements of my design that wouldn't work with the paper I had chosen - namely big areas of color that would've overwhelmed the gorgeous paper. A few days letter my invites were tweaked and ready to go, and quite frankly, better looking for it! The envelopes and invites are beautiful and the whole project was very reasonably priced. Although I approached Parcel with my own design, they also offer design services. Their invitation samples eye-catching and a definite testament to their attention to detail. As other reviewers have described, Parcel is a charming, eclectic little shop dedicated paper, crafts, and vintage trinkets - a true gem for makers and scrapbookers. read more

What a treasure this place is. In a sea of cookie-cutter places that lack originality and imagination, this is such a special store. One could spend forever just checking out all of the curious, special objects. They have perfect things to put together a very special and magical present for someone filled with things old and new that are reminiscent of days gone by, yet somehow modern. Parcel is such a fun store. I happened upon it one night after it had closed, but saw all of the beautiful, colorful decorations in the window and went back the next day to explore. It's the perfect place for people who love crafts, vintage décor, paper, and unique, random findings. They have a great selection of new and vintage paper, tons of beautiful ribbon, old post cards, cute little note cards, and many other things. You could easily spend a couple of hours in here looking through all of the drawers of curiosities. If you're seeking a place to find something special, this is it! I popped in just to look around and can't wait to put this gem to good use. There is a choose your adventure vibe while you browse among special thing after special thing. I asked the woman behind the counter what story this shop would tell and she said "anything" but amid the mishmash, it's abundantly clear that these items are carefully and thoughtfully collected for their charm and whimsy factors. One of the most magical places on earth! Well, at least in Montclair. Walking into Parcel is like walking into another little world. The store is so beautifully curated, with such care taken in all aspects of displays, merchandising, and decorating. Clearly, there are some very creative people that inhabit this magical world. Not only is the store magical, but the staff and owner are just lovely. Every time I go in there, they always help me find the perfect gift or item. I often bring my little granddaughter and the staff is always so patient with her as she picks out her little treasure to take home. Parcel is a delightfully curated and creatively styled boutique specializing in vintage stationery, letterpress greeting cards, fine paper goods, and boxes. It's been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, Real Simple and Mary Claire and in one of them it says, "These old fonts and type styles in vintage game pieces make you feel like you're reading an old love letter." So true! Owner Nancy Laboz has a singular vision and is wonderful to work with. Parcel is me and my wife's favorite store in Montclair! We go there all the time, but this review is more specifically based on the work they did for my wedding. We got our invitations, decorations and advice, recommendations, and mentoring from Nancy. The entire staff had something to do with our wedding and they gave us the materials for an amazing event. Parcel's beautiful inventory and store layout prompted me to contact them for our wedding invitations last year. We met with the owner, Nancy, only twice -- first for an initial consultation, and when we returned our invitations back to the shop and requested a refund. Nancy dismissed our attempts to initiate the design process all summer. Granted our wedding was not until January, but it was a semi-destination event, and we wanted to mail our invitations early. She took a long time even replying to us, and then offered up a steady stream of excuses (namely that her designer was MIA). Once we got the ball rolling, we liked her designer's work. The problem was with the paper and printing quality -- there was NONE. Ink was spotty and uneven, and the paper was handcut crookedly. Certainly not a "professional" job worth $1600. Nancy offers NO customer service. Upon expressing our dismay (in as calm & polite a way as possible), Nancy & her designer became rabidly defensive and quite personal in their attacks of my fiance & me. Her last words to us as we left (and after she conceded to refund our monies) was a sneering, sarcastic "good luck on your marriage!". Sadly, I really liked alot of Parcel's merchandise and had looked forward to them doing our invitations. However, I could never in good conscience patronize that store, nor refer someone there. read more

Entering this store brought me back to a time from my childhood; a time where handwritten letters were the norm and stationery was a prized possession. This wondrous shop is full of artistic inspiration and esthetically pleasing ornaments. I was immediately drawn in. At first, I wasn't sure exactly what the offering was so I asked the owner, Nancy Laboz. She said they sold vintage as well as handmade decorative items and high quality paper products as well as custom invitations and shadowboxes. She also said the decorative objects that adorned the store were there to inspire any artistic project someone might have. I absolutely love the idea of empowering the customer to create her own vision whether it be a shadowbox, an ornamental object, or a decorative card. Stores that awaken imagination and break up the daily routine of the day are much needed in these busy times we live in. My personal place of inspiration triggered a childhood love of writing on beautiful paper. But I was also motivated to start more projects. I will definitely be back and soon. The moment I first walked into Parcel I felt it was something special. After browsing for a few minutes I fell in love. I've been in several times since- I always leave with something beautiful and unique that I know I could not have found anywhere else. My husband and I did our custom wedding invitations and announcements with Parcel- it ended up being one of our favorite wedding experiences. Parcel also helped me do all of the silk and paper flowers for our garden wedding- which ended up being the foundation of the decorations- I have never seen flowers as gorgeous as the ones they sourced for me.
